LEE WEN “Sebastian” Performance held in occasion of the 1° VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK Palazzo Bembo, Venice 08.-15.12.2012 Video by Alice Pozzoli http://www.veniceperformanceart.org “My work has been a constant search to present the inner Self in performance using the varied possibilities. In recent years my body was facing difficulties in continuing normal functions. After some false leads it was found to be Parkinson's Disease. The medication I am using since finding out has been effective and enables me to function normally, except that I have to abstain from alcohol and to eat and sleep enough for the body to supply appropriate energy. 'Sebastian' invoked the Roman saint who came to shelter the weak and sick with hope and direction and also the courage to maintain the freedom of speech in the face of censorious authorities. My rendition will contemplate the characteristics of Sebastian in 3 part actions with the sick body / the mutation of music / the function of weakness and imperfection” (Lee Wen, 01 Dec 2012) The first VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK, under the title “Hybrid Body-Poetic Body”, took place at Palazzo Bembo, Venice, from December 8th to December 15th, 2012, showcasing works by 31 international artists.
