Poolesvilles mistakes cost it against Liberty — Gazette.Net

Its been very successful ride for the seniors on the Poolesville High School football team.

Theyve enjoyed three straight playoff appearances as they brought the program back to respectability. Down the road, they said, they will dwell on that rather than Friday nights rocky ending.

The Falcons were done in by several mistakes, as well as Libertys talent at home in a 37-7 loss in the 2A West Region semifinals.

I think they were just a little better than us tonight, Falcons coach Will Gant said. I really feel disappointed in myself. I didnt get my kids quite ready to go this week. I dont know what we were missing, it just wasnt our night.

The Falcons (7-4) lost three turnovers, suffered a safety, dropped an interception and failed repeatedly to stop Liberty (8-3) on third down.

We didnt execute, including myself, senior quarterback Steven Morningstar said. Just didnt perform to the best of our abilities tonight and they did. Thats why they won.

Poolesville was outgained 341-144 unofficially by the Lions.

Liberty running back Ryan Scheufele ran for three touchdowns and caught one of two scoring pass by quarterback Austin Bode, who ran for 106 yards.

The Falcons only touchdown came on special teams.

They play an aggressive defense. Theyre moving around and blitzing and its hard to pick up where theyre going to be. Gant said. We spent a lot of time preparing for it. Thought we had a good plan for it, and obviously we didnt.
