Liberty 21, Freedom 7

BRENTWOOD -- Matavai Canady scored twice in the second half to lead the Lions to their first victory over rival Freedom in nine years.

Liberty's defense held the Falcons to 27 total yards in the second half, and strong special teams play kept the ball in Freedom territory for most of the final two quarters. Canady broke a 7-7 game with a 5-yard touchdown run, giving the Lions a 14-7 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Liberty (8-2, 3-2 BVAL) controlled nearly all of the fourth quarter, but needed a 1-yard run by Canady with 2:23 left to put the game away. Quarterback Joseph Tolentino had converted a fourth-and-inches one play earlier.

Liberty's Willie Williams had an electrifying 42-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Sean Pinson led the Falcons (6-4, 3-2) with 61 yards on 13 carries, including a 23-yard scoring run that tied the game late in the second quarter.

Freedom's last two drives ended in turnovers, as the Lions' Ravin Nasilai recovered a fumble and JP Puente ended the game with an interception.
