Asheville The Blue Ridge Parkway

And so our state hopping continues Heading further inland from South Carolina we soon found ourselves in North Carolina. The visitor centre gave us some useful information about where to go on our way to Asheville and like fools we listened to every word they saidOur destination was Asheville because we had arranged to Couch Surf there for a couple of nights. We had plenty of time to spare so

Crater Lake and Beyond

Itrsquos supposed to be summer and yet our temps here are between 37 and 50's depending on the elevation. Crater Lake is a deep blue in color and is the deepest lake in the nation at 1943rsquo. That makes it the 7th deepest in the world according to my information. The lake was not seen by white men till 1853 when gold prospectors stumbled upon it. It was dubbed ldquoDeep Blue Lakerdquo

Who says you can’t go home again

Tuesday June 15 2010 Nsona MpanguAs the station where I spent my first four years in the Congo and where my parents worked for seven years Nsona Mpangu was probably for me the most anticipated stop on our trip. Of course for my sister Patricia it was seeing where she was born in Sona Bata. We were welcomed by former students warmly. As background Nsona Mpangu has become an isolated outpost

Day 59

A Funny and random thing happened while walking back from the shops as the sunset a local stopped us worried that Philip was cold in just a shirt and to ask if he seen anything as remarkable or beautiful as the white cockatoos sat in arow on the telegraph line chirping away as the sun set behind them. A random yet engrossing imagine. The man thanks us gave us an orange as he could tell we had a b

Kansas to "Sweet Home Chicago"

Well we made it safely to Kansas City Missouri. I am ashamed to admit I thought we were going to Kansas City Kansas If you look at a map of the area you can drive around the Missouri river and be in Kansas one minute and Missouri the next. Kansas City Kansas is actually a smaller city than Kansas City Missouri and it is actually a suburb of Kansas City in Missouri or Missoura if you were b

Late start lots of traffic in Raleigh finally

It was a good plan leave the house at noon make the 5 12 hour drive to Raleigh check in to the hotel find someplace nice for dinner ...Well we left home at 230pm we got carried away doing 'last minute' yard chores we should have done a few days ago. Immediately the GPS warned us of a 2hour delay on I95 south of DC. So we took the nonhighway route for the first 2 hours of the trip. O

EBELTOFT

What a lovely spot to pitch our motorhome right on the front of the campsite almost in the sea. Gorgeous sheltered bay with a few small boats and a view across to the frigate. Shame about the rain.Drove here back onto the mainland of Denmark from Fyn Island. Avoided motorways and got to the campsite in about 3 hours. We drove through Denmarkrsquos 2nd largest city but didnrsquot stop as loo

HiIt is Omer and today I am going to tell you about a village called Mindo. Mindo is a cloud forest surrounded by many activities. It is two hours away from Quito the Capital of Ecuador. When we got to Mindo it was already af

US Game at the Fan Zone and England vs. Algeria

Today had to be the best day so far at the World Cup. I have to admit after a couple days in the house here in Camps Bay I was worried that we wouldnrsquot be doing as much sightseeing and exciting stuff but rather just chilling in the house watching the games and going to the games that we had tickets for. But after today I am definitely super excited and canrsquot believe that I get to

Hanoi is trying to kill me

'tis true. Hanoi is trying to kill me. We thought the traffic in Saigon was the worst we had seen but Hanoi wins top prize. What Hanoi has that Saigon doesn't is young males on motorbikes that race through alleys streets sidewalks and crowds. On our walk home last night we were really taking care of each other. I told Steven this morning I am not going down past the 2nd floorthat way they can'

Die Strandloper

Finally all caught up to the date of the blog posting...I think my clock may be finally getting back to normal. Today as I normally would after a nightday of ldquopartyingrdquo I woke up at 830 am. I quickly got ready and jumped in the first car that would head out to our adventure for today. Today we decided to go to a ldquorestaurantrdquo located on the beach called Die Strandloper. T

Partying Hard in Panama

So my dad is always telling me that I must never write about partying on my travel blog because I know that my family reads it. Well here we go I'm going to write most of an entry about how hard I partied on my very first day in Panama Allie and I flew out Friday night. Our first flight out of SF was delayed but it didn't put us behind for the other flights so the trip was fairly uneventful

Today was much needed

Today was simply put a much needed blissful day..I cant describe the serinity that I felt today wandering by myself. Before I get into that thoughts have been running through and through. Ive found some of the views that I have long lost. I remember who I was and what drove me aside from my chaotic ways and FTW mentality. I want to come back to this country again. But the next time I come back I

Quanzhou giving up numbering days

Hello everybody. Sorry it's been a few days. We had to move hotels and the Internet jack in my room doesn't work so I'm piggybacking off Girouard at this point. For the field trip this week we went to Quanzhou the city once called Zaytun where the word satin comes from and a major stop on the silk road. We took a bus built for much shorter Chinese people again so all the staff's knees wer

On Top of the World

We were on top of the world today. Or to be more accurate we drove along the Top of the World Highway. We've just spent a couple of days in Alaska due to a last minute change of plan. Originally we had planned to journey in a giant U shape through the Yukon from Whitehorse up the left arm of the U via the Alaska Highway to Beaver Creek then back to Whitehorse to do the right arm of the
