Back roads Japan Style
We woke up to rain on Saturday. We ate in the communal dining room at the lodge with bicyclists from all over the world. We left around 900 and took the back roads most of the way back to Matt39s place. The drive was spectacular and there were almost no cars on most of the roads. The foliage was just past its prime but the rain really brought out the colors. It cleared part way throug
Departing Australia
So here we are at Kinsgford Smith airport waiting for our flight to take us to the other side of the world. As Alex alluded to in the first post it has taken a lot of planning and a lot of shifts to bring us to this point. We have many people to thank for helping us with this achievement without any loss of life. Close friends family neighbours kids bffs employers workmates real estat
Zanzibar and world cup final
Hi folks. Just a quick update from the stunning island of Zanzibar. Clear blue seas and sunshine. Possibly my favourite beaches ever. Anyway we have been travelling down from nairobi overland. Can39t quite believe how many different kinds of scenery there have been. First we travelled down to arusha in Tanznia. By the sounds of it a good time to get out of Kenya following the troubles with So
More on Iceland
Wow I only spent a week in Iceland but it really has been the most special place I39ve visited on this trip. The landscape is so unique changing rapidly and ALIVE. After our neardeath experience on the hike things calmed down and Melissa and I had the chance to relax in the Blue Lagoon an innovative idea to use the warmed water filled with natural silica as outdoor baths plus they make v

Oct 22 Saturday The High DriveToday I got on 26th street next to the Hotel and took it Southwest till it became Gold Camp Road and then climbed up and up to follow the Gold Camp road where it goes around a very scenic route and through 2 tunnels on a very narrow road. It was paved then turned to gravel and got so rough I started to say heck with it and turn around but it smoothed out a bit and bec

Kuala Lumpur dag 2
Italy 8 a visit to the Vatican
Our last visit of the holiday was to the the Vatican Museum and St Pauls basilica. We had bought tickets earlier on the internet something which was worthwhile doing when we saw the length of the queue snaking its way around the building at 8 am in the morning. The extra few euros paid were forgotten when we skipped the line and walked straight up to the pay desk where we exchanged our vouchers

13th OctoberSpent a couple of days exploring Ordesa National Park. Yesterday we took the motor bike up the Valle de Pineta and today we walked up the Ordesa valley to look at the stunning waterfalls with crystal clear water. The beech forests were very colourful with most of the leaves already golden brown and orange. We were lucky to find a space in the huge car park. This was obviously a ver
Meandering
Yesterday we didn39t do much besides walk around the nearby Yong Khang street. There39s a famous restaurant there but Holly39s housemate says she39s not sure why...basically it was sort of a fancy street and not really our style.Today we went to Danshui pronounced dan shwey. It39s about a 40minute metro ride from where we39re staying and the station is right next to all the
Winding down
Yesterday was a fail. We started heading towards Keelung to see the cool rock formations nearby and its famous night market but at each stop of the train the weather was getting worse and worse so we decided to come back. Then we went to Eslite a 24hour bookstore near the Zhongxiao Dunhua metro stop. It39s something like 6 floors and the bookstore is on the top. The other floors sell music
A New Philosophy
Congratulations you have the honor of being personally acquainted with one of those rare gems in the world who knows how to botch a vacation. When I set out on my little adventure I had some highflying ideal that I was going to spend four months soaking in the culture learning everything that school never taught me and growing as a person in the mean time.HaI like sunshine and beaches. I like
The final hours
Ronald and I took the bus from Taipei Main Station39s West Bus Terminal you have to go out a special exit and it39s not really connected to the metro and paid 90 NT for the bus. It took an hour and dropped us off at Terminal 2 it goes to both terminals and the driver was...interesting. He was chewing on a betel nut half the time and we were sitting in the front so we could see everything
Spanglish
Last night i decided to go to a bar in Palermo to practice my spanish. There39s a program in the city called Spanglish where Argentines and foreigners can come together to practice both spanish and English. Everyone has 4 different partners and talks for 510 minutes in English and then switches to Spanish. I really enjoyed it and think I39ll go again on Tuesday. I was really proud of myself
Day 9 Beaumont Texas
We left New Orleans with our belly full and we were saturated with the fast pace lifestyle of New Orleans. We drove to Beaumont Texas a small city of 110000 population and settled in our hotel about 2 miles north of Downtown. Then we went out in search of a restaurant and arrived on Crockett Street which is a popular place to go according to our travel guide booklets . We got out took a

Working with Pandas
Working with Pandas these last days has been one of the most incredible experiences ever. The Chinese name for Panda is Xiaong Mao literally meaning Bear Cat and indeed they look like a mixture between a bear and a cat. At first I thought it was nonsense surely they look nothing like cats But after closely working next to them I can confirm they have lots of movements similar to cats
