Planning Commission Very Divided on URP Proposal, but Does Barely Support Approval – The Peoples Vanguard of Davis

By David M. Greenwald

How divided was the Planning Commission on Wednesday over the University Research Park Mixed-Use project? They recommended approval by a 4-3 vote, after pulling out the affordable housing and architectural site plan.

The project is located in a vacant lot along Research Park Drive to the south of I-80. The proposal will consist of four buildingseach just under 30,000 square feet with four floors of residential apartment units over one floor of office/open plan tech space.

The project proposed a total of 160 dwelling units, including 32 studio units, 96 one-bedroom units, and 32 two-bedroom units.

The project is planned to provide a total of 138,431 square feet of residential space and 26,912 square feet of office/open plan tech space. The proposed buildings height is 60 feet.

Two of the biggest hurdles proved to be the affordable housing plan and the overall architectural site plan.

On affordable housing, the city made the determination that the project qualifies for the Vertical Mixed Use Exemption pursuant to Section 18.05.080 of the Citys Municipal Code that was in effect for this project at the time of the application submittal in March 2018.

Although the Citys Affordable Housing Ordinance was amended in January 2019 with current requirements which included revisions to the exemptions, the proposed project was submitted prior to the amendments, the city staff reasons, but they will require under the Sustainable Communities Project guidelines that the provision of affordable housing be included as part of the project, regardless of local waivers. Therefore, the applicant has proposed that the payment of in-lieu fees to satisfy the requirement for affordable housing.

This triggered some heavy differences of opinion among the members of the planning commission.

Emily Shandy said, I share the concerns raised previously about affordable housing in this project. I have a strong preference to see those affordable units included on site in this project. Thats the main sticking point for me on this one.

Darryl Rutherford expressed frustration on the affordable housing after speaking to Mark Friedman of Fulcrum, and he felt there was a real need to include housing on site.

He suggested that perhaps the applicant could cut back on the expense of the design and the materials, and maybe if we reduced that we could actually meet the inclusionary affordable housing component that this commission, the social services commission and many many people in this community want to see.

He said this is incumbent upon the developers who are asking the city to do a lot.

Ultimately he said he couldnt support the project without more benefits given back to the community in the form of meeting an affordable housing commitment.

But Greg Rowe argued, We all need to sort of step back in the concerns we have about affordable housing. He noted that this was the outcome of attempting to address the issue of climate change and encouraging transit priority projects.

He noted that this was the result the state streamlining CEQA projects that demonstrating they would reduce VMT by being near high quality transit. Part of that trade off is reduced CEQA requirements (for which this project was CEQA exempt) and they also had a maximum of five percent affordable housing under state law.

Its a trade off, he said. We may not be happy with that but thats what our state legislature decided they wanted. He said, Its a balancing act. It is what it is.

Emily Shandy added, I am disappointed that this is yet another project coming before us thats sort of an island of buildings in the middle of a sea of parking.

Darryl Rutherford said, The design seems a little oddpretty industrial. He added, It just doesnt have a Davis feel to me.

He noted the attempt to move to a more modern design but he said, It still doesnt seem to fit the community.

Herman Boschken, who ultimately provided the deciding vote on the project, called it a very sterile design, which he compared to Russian Housing where he spent some time. There is nothing much redeeming about the architectural style.

Boschken noted that, given the close proximity to campus, it is an open question as to who will live there and he went so far as to argue if housing for students got tight, this could become a student housing project.

Im inclined to approve the project, he concluded. But Im not completely happy with it.

On the other hand, David Robertson was strongly opposed to it from the get go.

For one thing, he was angry that the city keeps pushing forward these projects without updating their overall planning.

He acknowledged that we need housing now and will need housing after this project.

Will we ever run out of the need for housing in the city of Davis? Probably not while Im alive, he said. When are we going to start addressing the issues on a broader scale of what is it were trying to achieve as a city? Or are we just going to keep proposing housing and hope that it matches up?

He said, This to me is a city issue. But he noted that this project is actually 80 percent housing and 20 percent office space. Were going to build more housing and think that somehow its going to match up with the paltry amount of non-residential thats being put on this site.

But Greg Rowe had a different take, noting how lucky we are that Mr. Friedmans company bought this property back in 2016, because UC Davis offered almost as much money for this entire business park. Had they successful in doing that, that would have been the loss of millions in property tax revenue for this city and this is proposing to move forward with something that is pretty positive, pretty progressive.

Steve Mikesell also noted his agreement with Greg Rowe and disagreement with David Robertson. We make a mistake thinking about this as only a housing project, he said.

He sees it as an extension of the research park that is immediately adjacent to it.

We need to think of this as one piece of one part of the Interland Property, he said, noting that there are plans to upgrade it over time.

He noted that this is a local company, not a NYSE property. We are absolutely as lucky as can be that not only did the university not buy this parcel, but it is a developer who is as well respected as Mark Friedman and Fulcrum, he said. I have a lot of trust about the way they are putting this together.

While Mikesell said he felt good about the design of the project, others disagreed and, in fact, pulled out the approval of the site design from their recommendations.

Emily Shandy said, The more projects we accept that we dont really feel are the best projects for this community at that location at this time, the more of those subpar projects we accept, the lower were setting the bar for the next project that comes before us.

Mark Friedman, the applicant, pushed back on some of these comments. One of the conundrums they have is how to meet many competing objectives.

When we put this project together we were very focused on a number of benefits that we thought were important to the community, Friedman explained. One of the things we wanted to do was the densify the site. We felt it was an environmental good to create a place where people could walk to work.

He noted that it is extraordinarily more expensive to build high than is to spread out. This was acknowledged in the city ordinance that had exempted mixed use development from having to provide affordable housing. That was an acknowledgement that this project was more expensive and there were other benefits that they chose that outweighed those.

He said that he could agree to add more affordable housing and other bells and whistles, but all Im doing is getting further from the feasibility and farther away from delivering housing.

He told David Robertson that he appreciates his comments, But quite frankly I dont understand how the community is better off, how you solve your housing problems by making projects so infeasible that nobody builds them.

Friedman put it bluntly, I ask you to vote this project up or down. I promise that it will be beautiful if you allow us to build it. But Im not willing to redesign it.

Ultimately the motion would pass 4-3 with Robertson, Rutherford and Shandy opposing it.

Here are some Scottish locations that might suit PM’s taste for adventure – The National

THErevelation that Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiance Carrie Symonds and their baby son Wildred are to take a fortnights holiday in Scotland from next weekend has got the Jouker wondering just exactly where they could be going.

Purely in the spirit of welcome and absolutely without the help of VisitScotland weve come up with some locations that might suit the PMs taste for adventure. They will obviously want to get away from it all and go somewhere the paparazzi will not dare to follow, so that rules out 99% of the country.

Hes just been to Orkney and to Moray to see his chum Dougie Ross, of course so we can rule them out, too. And somehow we cant see them in a single end in Glasgow city centre so we have had to look elsewhere.

He could do a bit of an adventure playground research holiday in Greenock Town Centre in Inverclyde; Carntyne West and Hagill in Glasgow; Ferguslie Park in Paisley; Alloa South and East in Clackmannanshire; Buckhaven, Denbeath and Muiredge in Fife; and Cliftonville in North Lanarkshire. The alert among you will have spotted that according to the Scottish Government, these are the half-dozen most deprived areas in Scotland it would be a "see how the other half live"jaunt, and we dont think Old Etonian Boris would be up for that, somehow, especially now that the price of Buckfast has risen.

No, he would be much better off going for a bit of isolation. Rockall springs most readily to mind as its the furthest bit of Scotland from anywhere, but the accommodation is pretty poor non-existent, actually and those pesky Irish might just use the PMs presence to invade and claim the territory they consider to be theirs.

Far better to avoid a possible international incident and camp out on St Kilda. Its a World Heritage site, after all, and there are some military types resident there so the PM could always borrow their toilets as the National Trust for Scotland has closed down their bogs due to the coronavirus pandemic. But a captive audience of a million would surely be attractive, even if puffins and other seabirds dont have the vote yet.

We strongly recommend Gruinard, the so-called anthrax island situated between Gairloch and Ullapool. In a biological weapons experiment it was deliberately contaminated with anthrax during World War II, and 80 sheep died even though they had not declared war on the UK. After decontamination it was declared safe in 1990. Wouldnt it be a lovely gesture by the PM to pitch his tent there and show that the whole of the Precious Union is perfectly safe?

Theres a few other islands we could suggest. Why not Inchconnachan in Loch Lomond, currently on the market and a snip at 500k. There used to be wallabies on the uninhabited island, but they emigrated during the Governments hostile environment phase, allegedly. The good people of the nearby Vale of Leven, which used to be known as Little Moscow, might possibly object to the ultimate Tory in their proximity, but thats a small price to pay for enjoying the beauties of the Loch.

Inch Kenneth off Mull is an ideal holiday home but may be haunted by the ghost of Unity Mitford, the aristocratic Nazi-lover who shot herself in the head at the start of World War II but survived. She took ill on the island which was owned by her family and died in Oban aged 33 from meningitis caused by the bullet still inside her skull. Wouldnt want all that right-wing history being raked up, so probably not ideal for Boris.

Scarba is our last recommendation. Its a lovely wee island just north of Jura, with its very own spectacular whirlpool, Corryvreckan, thats well worth a visit. Just dont take the wife and bairn One thing to remember, PM, is that we are doing lockdown things differently here in Scotland, and that dreadful woman in Bute House might just close the Border and trap you here for an extended holiday. And dont count on her for a few nights at her wee but n ben.

Murs and Slug Surprise Release First New Felt Album in Over 10 Years Felt 4 U – mxdwn.com

Ariel King August 9th, 2020 - 3:38 PM

Murs and Atmospheres Slug have released their fourth Felt album,Felt 4 U,following an 11 year hiatus. The duo preceded the albums release with Name In Ya Mouth, a standalone track. Ant of Atmosphere helped to produce the album.

Felt 4 U comes as the first Felt album not to have been dedicated to a celebrity, instead the album is dedicated to the fans. Blimes, The Grouch, Aesop Rock and Shepard Albertson all have appearances on the new album, a first for the rap duo.

Name in Ya Mouth helps to set the tone forFelt 4 U, Murs and Slug returning with their smart verses and swelling beats. Somebody say that money is the root of all evil/ I guess it is/ Thats why I came to the party dressed like an exorcist, the track begins. Im not perfect but Ive got purpose, is flown over the heavy synths which take listeners back to the roots of rap.

The album incorporates funk, soul, blues and country. The album takes on a summer feel, allowing each of Felts albums to take on one of the four seasons.Felt 4 U comes as the followup to 2009sFelt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez. Previous Felt albums had been produced by The Grouch, Ant and Aesop Rock, with all three contributing toFelt 4 U in some way. Ants production creates a deeper layer within each track, perfectly encapsulating each songs tone.

Nevers Enough introduces the album as Mars and Slug rap about how their lives have improved since their last album. Both started families over the past ten years, and explore themes related to their changing lives throughout the course of the album.

Find My Way takes a deeper tone from the opening track, mixing in soul as Murs and Slug explore difficult themes in searching for themselves and paying the price for all they have achieved. Ants production stand out as lyrics discuss driving away with their wives.

Dont Do Me Like That comes back to the higher tones, lyrics portraying familial struggles and struggling with trust in a relationship. Both rap about arguments with their wives, highlighting the difficulties found in starting families.

Trees swings around as Murs and Slug reminisce on their childhoods, talking about how they have matured since them. They pull on violence in their lyrics and sing about smoking weed, parts of the production brining in slight psychedelic synths as record scratches highlight the end of the track.

Through The Night falls into a funky tune as it takes on a slow tone, Mars and Slug turning to romance. The instrumental matches the romantic undertones of the track, creating a transcending tone.

Freeze Tag pulls on blues in its beginning before the beat picks up. I wasnt born I was hatched on the moon, Slug sings. Murs and Slug switch off on the lyric Stop, hold it, freeze, each flinging themselves into their verse. Ants production takes on a disco inspiration, pushing listeners to get up and dance.

Sticks & Stones brings in a smooth and heavenly tone as Murs raps about violence as a child. Everybody with a heartbeat got beaf, Murs says as he speaks about having to protect himself as he was growing up. Slug comes in to talk about watching cartoons and football as he was a kid, the two giving a stark contrast on the way each grew up. He then discusses the amount of money currently poured into the military, questioning why.

Underwater lends an underwater bass feel, the track bringing back disco. Blimes feature flows and swirls as the track bubbles, Mars coming in to rap about wanting to be with a girl. Just no if we ever split/ I am not mad. The track marks the first love song on the album, Slug reminiscing on his relationship prior to having kids. I love this house that weve built together, he says.

Alexander Freal creates a harder sound, the booming beat bouncing underneath Slugs raps. Murs and Slug speak of Chicago, rapping about running away. They both switch off seamlessly, sounding almost as if they have the same thoughts.

Hologram introduces The Grouch and Aesop Rock, all four artists switching off over a heavy beat and electric strums. They switch into a darker tone as each raps about how they dont care about fame or those who come to try and grab their attention.

Crimson Skies slows the track down as they both rap about paying full price for shit I didnt really ask for. They take on a melancholy tone, the track featuring Shepard Albertson. Watching this apocalypse in real time/ Its not at all how I thought it would be, the lyrics state. The track could take many different meanings in reference to the current state of the world, from loss and personal struggle to the ongoing world events which have thrown much of the country into chaos.

Borboleta ends the album with strums of a piano and a positive summer feel. They take on sweet tones as the track ends with Murs and Slugs children chanting, my family, my family. Their lyrics speak on their children, wanting to raise them in the best way possible and watch them grow up and make the world their own.

Bon Iver enlists Springsteen and nods to Minneapolis homeless charity on new single – Minneapolis Star Tribune

Justin Vernon, with Jenn Wasner on piano, last year at the New Yorker Festival. / Ben Gabbe, Getty Images/TNS

Fresh off his prominent guest stint with one of pop music's biggest hitmakers, Eau Claire'sindie-rocker-to-the-stars Justin Vernon now has one of rocks all-time biggest names guesting on a new Bon Iver single, which hes using to call attention to Minneapolis Sanctuary Movement and other charities.

Bruce Springsteen is credited alongside Vernons longtime cohorts Jenny Lewis, Elsa Jensen and Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak) as backup vocalists on AUATC, an acronym for Ate Up All the Cake..

Unlike Vernonsvocals on Taylor Swifts new album Folklore, the Boss isnt exactly up front and center in the short, 2-minute,gospel-flavored experimentaltrack. A press release for the song from Bon Ivers publicist just nodded to Springsteen as and more. But his participating nonetheless adds mojo to the songs anti-greed lyricism and the good causes beingtouting with its release.

A new nonprofit launched to help the homeless populations in Powderhorn Park and other areas badly damaged after the George Floyd tragedy, Minneapolis Sanctuary Movement is listed among several other organizations that Vernon urgedfans to explore, take action and support in the spirit of the song. The other causes listedare the National Independent Venues Association (NIVA, the national lobbying organization headed by Dayna Frank of First Avenue), 350.org, theEqual Justice Initiative and Eau Claire-basedRed Letter Grant.

In a lengthy statement posted with the song Wednesday, Vernon wrote:

We must continue the fight to topple capitalism as we know it, and recognize our collective participation in its dominant institutions.BonIveracknowledges our own position within and use of capitalistic practices. It is with recognition of our privilege that we are fully committed to using our unique platform to challenge and change capitalism within our industry, and far beyond.

A music video was also offered up with the single, created by Aaron Anderson and Eric Timothy Carlson with choreography by TU Dance alumnus Randall Riley. More Twin Cities connections: The track was co-produced by Minneapolis-based studio wiz BJ Burton and features Minnesota musicians Barbara Jean Meyers and JT Bates, the latter of whom also drums on three tracks on Swifts new album.

This August, TV ventures through The Swamp, Lovecraft Country, and the Lower Decks of Star Trek – The A.V. Club

Wed call Pan Y Circo the next best thing to breaking bread with our family and friends, but this Amazon Original is so clearly an upgrade to our own quarantine dinners and company (we only say this after five months) that we cannot in good faith make that comparison. In this series thats part travelogue, part Zoom conference, Diego Luna hosts politicians (including Juan Manuel Santos, the former president of Colombia), actors (like his compa, Gael Garca Bernal), and activists like Odilia Romero of the Bi-National Front of Indigenous Organizations over exquisite meals prepared by renowned Mexican chefs. In addition to great food, each of Pan Y Circos seven episodes will feature discussion of such weighty topics as abortion, gender violence, migration, and climate change. Earlier this year, Luna and Garca Bernal helped us stave off cabin fever with Ambulante En Casa, a digital version of their itinerant documentary film festival, Ambulante. [Danette Chavez]

Once an Outlaw to perform at Wildcat Inn Aug. 20 – Conway Daily Sun

JACKSON Once an Outlaw, featuring members of the Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws, Foghat, Southern Rock All Stars and Blues Project, will be appearing for two special acoustic shows on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 5 and 7 p.m. at the iconic Wildcat Inn & Tavern in Jackson.

Local guitarist Chuck Farrell of Tuftonboro who also can be seen with Jon Butcher, James Montgomery, Barry Goudreau and the Shadow Riders, rounds out this three guitar line up.

Once an Outlaw started when Chris Anderson of the Outlaws, AJ Vallee of the Southern Rock All Stars and Farrell (along with members of the Peacheaters) hooked up for a run of New England shows last fall. It was so well-received that a 20 date summer/fall Northeast tour was scheduled. Like many other tours in 2020 it got torpedoed.

The group added bassist Jeff Howell, formerly of the group Foghat, to the line up when he filled in on a show in Albany, N.Y. After some discussions and gentle persuasion he became a permanent member.

The final piece to the puzzle came with Chris Hicks of the Marshall Tucker Band. Hicks was scheduled to do a 30 date farewell tour with Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker in 2021. With the recent passing of Daniels, Hicks had an open schedule.

Hicks and Howell already knew each other from their time in the Outlaws and when he heard of the new project things just came together.

The first round of rehearsals are scheduled in mid/late August here in the Lakes Region with another round after the first of the year in Nashville.

What better place for rehearsals than here in New Hampshire in the summer says Farrell.

The shows will be outside with limited seating (50 per show). This will make for a memorable intimate experience.

The inn and the band have worked together to be able to bring this much needed show to the MWV for only $20. We decided to make this affordable for everyone.

Local musician and host of the Cold River Radio Show Jonathan Sarty will be the MC and opens both shows.

In case of rain the rain date will be Monday, Aug. 24.

Tickets are available by calling the Wildcat Inn at (603) 356-8700

Pedestrian killed by car driven by K-pop boy band 2AM’s Seulong in Seoul – Manila Bulletin

Im Seulong (Twitter)

K-pop artist Im Seulong, 33, of boy band 2AM is under police investigation after he hit and killed a pedestrian, who was reported to be jaywalking, in South Korea on Aug. 1.

According to the police, the car accident happened at about 11:50 p.m. last Saturday on a road in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.

Seulong was driving an SUV amid heavy rain when he hit a man in his 50s who was crossing at a red light, according to Korean media. The victim was taken to a hospital but died.

The police found that Seulong was not under the influence of alcohol when the accident happened.

In a statement, Jellyfish Entertainment, Seulongs agency, said We would like to pray for the salvation of the soul of the victim who passed away in the accident and express our deep condolences to the family of the deceased, according to JTBC Plus.

It explained that on August 1, Im Seulong caused a traffic accident due to slippery road conditions while driving. The car he drove collided with a pedestrian crossing the street. Immediately after the accident, Im Seulong took relief measures at the scene, but unfortunately the victim passed away on the way to the hospital.

After receiving the investigation at the police station in the right order, Im Seulong was allowed to return home. However, at present, he is suffering a serious shock both physically and mentally. The accurate results of the police investigation have yet to come out, so we cannot disclose details about this incident. We hope you all will understand, Jellyfish said.

The agency added, However, we know how painful it is for the bereaved family of the victim so we sincerely apologize to the family. Once again, our condolences go to the bereaved family and may the victim rest in peace.

Under Koreas traffic accident law, a driver of a vehicle who commits a crime provided for in Article 268 of the Criminal Act by reason of a traffic accident shall be punished by imprisonment without prison labor for not more than five years or by a fine not exceeding 20 million won [about $16,737 or P821,000].

Article 268, according to the Korea Legislation Research Institute, states that a person who causes the death or injury of another by occupational or gross negligence, shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than five years or by a fine not exceeding 20 million won.

The investigation will determine if Seulong was negligent, taking also into account that the man was jaywalking at the time.

Korean netizens expressed support to Seulong, saying it was not his fault. Some of the comments, according to Netizen Buzz, are: He should not have to apologize for this, the fault lies with the person who jaywalked, Jaywalking in the rain at night theres no way a driver can avoid that and you put your life on the line every time you jaywalk. I feel bad for the driver than the pedestrian in this case.

Seulong debuted in 2AM in 2008. He signed up with Jellyfish Entertainment early this year.

WWE news: Who were the best Superstars in the 2000s? – GIVEMESPORT

From the infamous Attitude Era to Ruthless Aggression, the greatest showmen in sports entertainment have been voted for by the WWE Universe on ranker.

Ranker is a popular destination for crowdsourced rankings. In this instance, fans all around the world have been voting for their favourite WWE Superstars.

There is a vast criterion for voting for your favourite wrestler; championship reigns, promos, in-ring performances - these must all be taken into consideration.

The 2000s represented a great time for WWE, as it produced some of the most world-renowned stars we think of today.

After an extensive vote, here are the top 30 WWE superstars of the 2000s.

The seven-foot giant is a legend in the wrestling industry. Boasting two WWE title reigns, Big Show has successfully transitioned through eras of wrestling seamlessly.

The Big Dog divides opinion amongst the WWE Universe, but its difficult to argue with his accomplishments. A triple crown champion, WrestleMania main eventer, Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank winner, Reigns has done it all and still has years left at the top, so his inclusion on this list could be somewhat premature.

Captain Charisma comes in at 28. Perhaps best known for being one half of one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history with partner Edge, Christian totally reeks of awesomeness.

Rollins burst onto the scene as a member of The Shield alongside Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. Like Reigns, he also has a stellar record in WWE and will be around for years to come, making his inclusion controversial. What cannot be disputed, however, is the Monday Night Messiahs talent. Rollins is a truly outstanding ring technician.

Matt Hardy, like his brother Jeff, are cult heroes amongst the WWE fanbase. Their legendary feud with Edge and Christian is justification alone for both Hardy Boyz being on this list.

Despite the controversy around his death, the Rabid Wolverine is ranked number 25. A series of breath-taking matches against the likes of Eddie Guerrero and Randy Orton will live long in the memory of WWE fans.

Here comes the pain! Lesnar is quite frankly a freak of nature. His first title reign came at just 25 years of age; an indicator of how highly he was rated by the higher ups in the WWE. The former UFC heavyweight champion can still be seen taking his opponents to suplex city till this day.

The Nature Boy is without question one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Stylin and profilin since the 1970s, its testament to his timelessness that he makes a list based on the 2000s - Woooo!!!

The Devils Favourite Demon is another legend of the sport. Standing at seven feet tall, Kane is an imposing and deceptively agile athlete, who has Chokeslammed his way through different eras.

Despite being best remembered for his infamous Pipe Bomb promo, CM Punk was also involved in his fair share of great matches. Such was his following, his unsuccessful UFC run still wont taint his reputation in the eyes of his supporters.

At 20 is one of the original WWE divas. Lita was involved in some of the most controversial storylines in WWE. Her feud with Trish Stratus is arguably the best between two female wrestlers in WWE history.

Yes! Yes! Yes! At number 19 its the worlds toughest vegan Daniel Bryan. Bryan is an outstanding technical wrestler and a real fan favourite.

Can you dig it, sucka? The five-time WCW Champion was as entertaining in the ring as he was outside of it. His supermarket segment with Steve Austin is still hilarious viewing, whilst his feud with Triple H in 2007 remains shrouded in controversy.

There are fewer superstars more fun to watch in full flow than RVD. An innovator in the ring, his martial art-like style was revolutionary, meaning his spot in the rankings is fully deserved. His judgement leaves a lot to be desired, though.

Trish, like her counterpart Lita, is an original top diva in WWE. With seven WWE Womens title reigns, her inclusion on this list more than justified.

Responsible for some of the greatest wrestling matches in the 2000s, Kurt Angle comes in at number 15.

Whether dispatching his opponents with the mighty Spear or the fearsome Jackhammer, Goldberg was one of the most dominant wrestlers of all time. Perhaps not the best technically, Goldberg was always capable of putting on good matches through sheer intensity.

The master of the 619 is another superstar with cult hero status. Mysterios high octane style won admirers around the world, and his 2006 Royal Rumble win remains one of the most emotional occasions in WWE history.

You just made the list! Y2Js ability to constantly reinvent himself sees him placed at a highly respectable 12th. The Ayatollah of Rock n Rolla has legendary matches against the likes of Shawn Michaels and Edge on his resume, whilst he also holds the record for most Intercontinental title reigns with nine.

The late great Eddie Guerrero was simply adored by WWE fans. Before his untimely passing in 2005, Eddie was well on his way to becoming the top star in sports entertainment. A comfort to us all is WWE title win against Brock Lesnar at No Way Out in 2004 - a truly priceless moment.

The Enigma is the first superstar in the top 10. His legendary Swanton Bomb finishing move has put away many a contender. Despite his personal battles with addictions, Hardy is still loved and respected for his unique style and happy-go-lucky personality.

The Animal got his big breakthrough as the muscle in the Triple H-led faction Evolution. After eventually turning on him, Batista went on to have a highly respectable singles career, including two Royal Rumble wins and four WWE title reigns.

Most wrestlers we know and respect cite Shawn Michaels as their inspiration. A truly phenomenal athlete, the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels overcame a career threatening back injury to cement his place as one of the greatest of all time.

Triple H comes in just above his long-time best friend Shawn Michaels at seven. During his time as The Game, Triple H put on legendary matches against the likes of Cactus Jack and The Rock, all whilst being the smug heel that you just loved to hate.

The Rated R Superstar has recently come back to in-ring competition. But during the early-to-mid 2000s, Edge was the most decorated WWE Superstar on the roster. Almost always champion, Edge certainly lived up to his ultimate opportunist gimmick.

Perhaps the man with the most popular finishing move, and the youngest ever WWE champion, its third generational star Randy Orton at five. Orton always managed to remain relevant, and his run as the Legend Killer will go down in WWE folklore.

The most electrifying man in sports entertainment, Dwayne The Rock Johnson is ranked at number four. Whenever this man had a microphone to his lips, viewers everywhere were on the edge of their seats. The Rock is an all-time great, no doubt about it.

The Phenom terrified his opponents for decades. Despite losing his WrestleMania unbeaten streak at the hands Brock Lesnar, Undertaker is still regarded as the greatest performer at the show of all shows. After recently announcing his retirement, The Deadman leaves as an impossible act to follow.

The man who changed the face of the WWE. Cena sold out arenas all around the world, whether being booed or cheered, Cena sparked an unprecedented reaction amongst the WWE fanbase. It would take a whole other article to list his achievements, but the Dr. of Thuganomics is a true WWE great.

The biggest draw in WWE history, The Rattlesnake Stone Cold Steve Austins controversial, anti-establishment, baddass approach won the hearts of WWE fans far and wide. When you think of wrestling, you think of Steve Austin. And thats the bottom line, because Stone Cold said so!

Battered by Covid-19, the fishing industry nervously awaits Brexit outcome – Irish Examiner

Future management of rich marine resources is coming into sharp focus, as Britain withdraws from the EUs Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).

We can expect skirmishes at sea, but hopefully nothing like the Pirates of the Caribbean and sword-twirling Capt Jack Sparrow characters on the decks of galleons.

However, as Sparrow once said, not all treasure is silver and gold, mate.

The treasure, in this case, may be the 64% of the lucrative mackerel fishery and 43% of prawns caught by Irish vessels in British waters.

In that context, as new marine minister Dara Calleary told the Irish Examiner earlier this week, Britain withdrawing from the CFP is a deadly serious threat to livelihoods of Irish fishing communities.

Killybegs Fishermens Organisation (KFO) chief executive Sean ODonoghue believes that a no-deal Brexit would be particularly challenging for blue Europe, with potential for many sea skirmishes, over coming months.

Its not just Ireland that is affected by British withdrawal from the CFP though, as I believe the French fleet will up the ante, ODonoghue predicts.

You could have flashpoints everywhere from Rockall to the North Sea to the Celtic Sea and English Channel, with the British Navy, the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency, the Dutch, French and Belgian navies out at sea, and our Naval Service having an enormous area to control, says ODonoghue.

Already, there have been some clashes. Two years ago, French and English vessels were in dispute over scallop grounds in the English Channel. Recently, Scottish fishermen reported a number of incidents which they believe are symptomatic of an effort by certain EU vessels to hold on to traditional grounds.

A German-registered Spanish gillnetter which was filmed allegedly trying to foul the propeller of a Scottish vessel west of Shetland in early June was detained this month near Rockall by the Naval Service patrol ship, L William Butler Yeats, for separate alleged breaches of EU fisheries legislation.

Figures speak volumes about the value of Irish waters to EU fleets, with Castletownbere, the largest whitefish port, being a transhipment point for foreign landings. A Bord Iascaigh Mhara snapshot of the industry records the value of seafood at over 1 billion, with first sale value of fish landed into Irish ports at 424 million in 2019.

While Irish landings were valued at 291m of that total, non-Irish landings were quoted at 133m.

Displacement to Irish grounds of European vessels with quotas in British waters is another negative aspect of Brexit. In the past few weeks, there have been anecdotal reports of Spanish gillnetters who never normally fished off the Irish south-west coast showing up on whitefish grounds.

It is as if some track records are being laid down by the Spanish, who have always been much better at this than Ireland, said a seasoned industry observer.

Fisheries biologist Dr Peter Tyndall of the National Fishermens Development Group says Brexit is an opportunity for Europe to accept that Ireland suffered a serious injustice in the original EU access deal.

Ireland had 24% of EU waters on accession, and was allocated just 3.8% of the total allowable catch in 1983, but was offered access to the European market.

Those percentages have changed as the EU has grown, with Ireland now having 10% of the sea area, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs Brexit fact sheet. By value, Ireland accounts for 36% of the average value of landings from the Irish Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ), followed by France (18%), the UK (16%), Spain (15%), and the Netherlands (8%).

So, if Britain wants to play hardball, then the quotas given to the British-registered Spanish vessels for stocks off the Irish west coast should revert to Ireland, says Dr Tyndall.

Founding editor of the fishing industrys monthly The Skipper publication Arthur Reynolds believes that recognition that Ireland has a moral right to greater access to its own waters must be central to any Brexit negotiations.

Germany didnt have to open up access to Ruhr coalfields. France didnt have to open up access to its vineyards. Ireland and Denmark were the only two member states with a surplus of fish when the CFP was drawn up, Reynolds says.

Reynolds cautions that he is not talking about increasing catches to an unsustainable level to compensate Ireland, but about a more equitable share out among EU coastal states of the existing resource.

The Covid-19 pandemic may have knocked Brexit off headlines, but it also exposed how dependent the British fleet is on the European market a market which collapsed from March, when restaurants closed.

So Covid-19 shows that Britain needs to be able to secure value for its fish, Dr Tyndall says.

Castletownbere Fishermens Co-op manager John Nolan was disappointed to see how protectionist some EU partners became.

Our Irish whitefish industry is largely export-led, and we experienced a situation where prime Irish monkfish could not be sold in France, and we ended up having to let it go for fishmeal at 10c a kilo, Nolan says.

The EU had signalled that member states could relax State aid rules. But the temporary tie-up compensation scheme, eventually introduced by former marine minister Michael Creed, was designed to fail, says Irish South and West Fishermens Organisation chief executive Patrick Murphy.

I dont begrudge the beef farmers the 50m which the outgoing government has given them, but it beggars belief that an industry like fishing where people risk their lives to produce food should be treated in this way, Murphy said.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine said the tie-up supports would range from 6,000 per month for a maximum of two months for the very largest vessels over 24 metres, to 500 per month for a maximum of two months for the very smallest vessels under six metres in length.

That sort of money would barely cover insurance costs, said an east coast vessel owner of the scheme, which covered only two of the months of June, July and August. He said it did not acknowledge the efforts of skippers who took a responsible course of action in tying up from mid-March. When markets closed, the only place to store fish was in the sea, and not in cold storage, said the skipper, who did not wish to be named.

Overall, some 65 applicants (about 3% of the entire whitefish fleet) were offered the compensation in June.

Worse was to come, however, as some inshore boats had applications rejected for a failure to produce evidence of sales notes, through no fault of their own. This documentation is the responsibility of buyers to return, and for the States Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) to monitor.

The National Inshore Fishermens Association said this anomaly has wider and serious implications, as it suggests the State was not accurately recording the inshore sectors full economic value.

New marine minister Dara Calleary has been told in no uncertain terms by industry organisations that a more robust compensation scheme must be considered.

Offshore renewable energy

As if Brexit and Covid-19 arent enough, the new government has ambitious plans for offshore renewable energy, which has proved contentious in certain British coastal areas.

Fixed offshore wind farms earmarked for the east Irish coast could have serious impacts on the valuable whelk fishery on the Kish bank and the prawn grounds off Co Louth.

A 30-year strategy for offshore renewable recently published by the Eirwind consortium says the fishing industry has to be treated as the primary stakeholder, and recommends a forum be established between the two industries which would focus on issues such as regulations for fishing vessels to work as guard boats, shared interests in marine conservation, and best practice in compensation against loss of livelihood.

Eirwind is an industry-led collaborative research project, aimed at developing a blueprint for offshore wind development in Ireland. It is part of MaREI, the SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine at University College Cork.

Dingdong Dantes honors mom, wife and the Creator on his 40th b-day – Manila Bulletin

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera with kids Zia and Sixto

In time for his 40th birthday, Dingdong Dantes wrote a touching tribute to two important women in his life his mom Angeline and wife Marian Rivera.

Dingdong celebrated his birthday last Sunday, Aug. 2.

It isnt a day I imagined 5 months ago definitely far from the supposed Oktoberfest-themed, 90s rock, all-out party. That was the plan, he wrote.

Despite the shift in plans caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the actor said his birthday remains a blessing.

He also took on the opportunity to recognize the important people in his life.

Today, I honor my mother who brought me into this world. I had to have my own children to make me realize the sacrifices that our mothers do for us. She literally put her life on the line for me. So whenever I get a birthday greeting, I also celebrate her strength, love, and commitment in raising a kulit boy like me, he said.

Today, I also honor my wife who has been my rock and core. Building a family of my own and reaching milestones have been a blissful and contented journey because I have her as my partner in and for life. So whenever you greet me, I too laud her dedication, care, and love for me and our children who have brought so much meaning to our marriage and our lives.

It didnt end there. Above all, Dingdong honored our Creator.

And of course, today, I honor our Creator, who have made all things possible and surmountable for me all throughout these years. So, I welcome and embrace your well-wishes so that I can continue glorifying Him.

Muli, maraming salamat sa mga pagbati. (Again, thank you for all the birthday greetings.) Open a bottle of beer for me and distantly, Id like to thank you for being part of my ongoing lifes journey, he added.

Dingdong and Marian have been married since 2014. Their kids are Zia and Sixto.

This is the day: SB19 finally drops debut album ‘Get in the Zone’ – Manila Bulletin

SB19

The initial plan was to release the debut album in summer 2020. Well, the pandemic happened and for a time, nobody could say for sure what the new release date of SB19s full-length debut album would be.

Todays the day.

SB19 has finally released the album Get In The Zone under Sony Music. It has six originals, along with the EDM version of fan-favorite Love Goes and two instrumental songs.

According to statement sent to Bulletin Entertainment, Get In The Zone maps the creative and personal journey of the group.

It hasnt been long since we released our debut single Tilaluha, but prior to that, we have been training for years already, says SB19 member Sejun. We wanted to incorporate all the things that we have experienced during trainee days into this album by putting all the emotions that we went through into our music. It was an emotional rollercoaster, but we pulledthrough and we hope that we get to inspire people with our story.

The album opens with their two biggest hits, Alab and Go Up. But the most awaited song in the album has got to be the ballad Hanggang sa Huli. Live versions of the song from last year have amassed millions of views online and fans have been clamoring for a studio version for months. The track talks about allowing a broken person to heal and find comfort in a love that lasts a lifetime.

Tilaluha, the first release from the group that did not get them the attention they deserve, is also in the album, waiting to just be rediscovered. Its a stripped-down ballad that tackles ones remorse over reciprocated romance. Its a refreshing misnomer in a record filled with upbeat jams and shiny pop tunes, and one that blows the roof off, vocal performance-wise.

Will ATIN (name of their fandom) like Wag Mong Ikunot Ang Iyong Noo? Its got to be their more accessible number to date, almost sounding like novelty song. It certainly sounds fun and we learned from a release that the song is Filipino adaptation of the Korean 90s smash, Sarangeun Ya YaYa.

According to Sejun, what sets Get in the Zone apart from other contemporary releases is the collaborative synergy between K-pop producers and Filipino talents, resulting into an exciting yet compelling final product.

Its a great thing to get all the good traits from Korean and Philippine music/culture, and put them together into one. If youll dive deepinto it, youll find a whole new sound rich in both cultures.

The other members of SB19 are Justin, Josh, Ken, and Stell.

SB19 dedicates Get in the Zone to ATIN that continue to help the group get hit after hit, win awards, chart on Billboard, trend on Twitter.

All our achievements to date would not have been possible without you, says Josh. So in return we will work harder and continue to uplift you with more music and content so that we can give back the love weve received from you.

Watch Skip Marley And The School Of Rock All-Stars Perform Bob Marleys Three Little Birds – uDiscover Music

Skip Marley has partnered with School of Rocks All-Stars program partnered to cover Bob Marleys anthem Three Little Birds.

The recording comes at a time when the world needs the reminder the most, that every little thing gonna be alright. The collaboration highlights the inspirational message of Bob Marleys music combined with the hopes of the new generation including his own grandson, Skip. You can check the collaborative performance out below.

School of Rock is the worlds largest and most widespread music school, educating youth on all things music through hands-on experiences. School of Rocks All-Stars are the schools top performance musicians, and due to social distancing, they virtually created this video performance from the comfort of their own homes.

This video is meant to spread a message of positivity during a pivotal time of historic disruption, said Rob Price, CEO of School of Rock. Our All-Stars, the very best School of Rock artists from around the world, typically tour across the United States each summer. But when COVID-19 disrupted those plans, we knew we needed to keep the music playing and inspire others with optimism. Having our students join Skip to record the music and vocal tracks of this iconic song is poignant, and reminiscent of how moving the message of Three Little Birds was when first released.

At the end of the performance, students at School of Rock explain what this song means to them, especially during turbulent times such as these. There is always hope, even in the darkest of times, and that, better things will come in the future, and its important to have faith in that.

This cover of the iconic Three Little Birds comes during Bob Marleys 75th celebration what would be the artists 75th birthday year. His legacy lives on through his grandson Skip Marley, who is now a label mate of his late grandfather on Island Records.

Girls soccer gets ready to take the field again – Sedona Red Rock News

The Sedona Red Rock High Schools girls soccer team halted its summer practice schedule after only a few weeks following the second COVID-19 spike.

But with the estimated return of fall sports getting closer, the Scorpions are hoping to get back on the pitch soon.

Coach Juan Carlos Aguilar is planning on resuming practices on either Thursday, Aug. 6 or Friday, Aug. 7.

Thats what my intentions are, Aguilar said. Registration starts this week, so Ill have more of an idea of how many girls I have. Thursday or Friday well start.

Of course, like all fall teams, the Scorpions are also in a waiting period to see if the fall sports season will even happen. The present plan is for official fall practices to begin on Monday, Aug. 17, the same day Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey plans to have schools reopened for in-person learning. While Duceys latest announcement on Thursday, July 23 did not change that, things are still subject to change.

Additionally, some individual schools have already chosen to cancel their seasons due to COVID-19, something the Arizona Interscholastic Association has said that it will not fine schools for doing.

Even if the season does go forward, Aguilar added that the present AIA regulations pose a number of challenges.

It cuts your purpose of training in half, he said. This is a sport of contact. If we just play it safe with the kids we will be OK. They just need to be aware of where they go after practice, when they go home. Thats the only challenge separation and the use of masks. You know that you cant run with masks.

The Sedona team is coming off of a 5-7-1 season during the 2019-20 year, though this season will bear little resemblance to that one. The 2019-20 soccer team played in the winter. This years Scorpions will play in the fall. Soccer was initially a fall sport at SRRHS but has been a winter sport for the entire time that Aguilar and any of the players have been there. But in January, the decision was made to move it back to fall.

That will be a challenge for Aguilar. Page High School recently decided to cancel its fall season. Thats relevant to the Scorpions, as the Sand Devils were the only fall soccer team that Aguilar had experience coaching against. Now, Sedonas team will be playing against an entirely new group of opponents.Despite that and the challenge of getting a team ready for fall after an abbreviated summer practice season, Aguilar is excited for the change.

For the size of the school and how many kids are involved, its a good fit, he said. Its going to be new. Its going to be really interesting with the other schools and how they do it. I like it the warmer weather for me and the players. Playing in 20-degree weather is kind of tough for everybody.

The coach said that hes understanding of any hesitancy that parents may have with allowing their kids to play. Despite that, he hopes the season will go on.

We have to ask them how they feel and if theyre going to allow their kids to play, Aguilar said. Everybody is scared. Thats totally understandable. But at the same time, we cant just hide under a rock all the time. Weve got to keep living.

Right now more than ever as a community the schools, parents and coaches we need to stay together and help each other, he said. Weve got to come together and find ways to keep the kids occupied.

Informed, partially at least you might suspect, by Jerry Josephs last trip to Northern Iraq/Kurdistan, Sugar Smacks sees the American singer, songwriter, and guitarist looking at the modern world through the prism of oppression, hate and violence, be it domestic, national or global. The song can barely contain Josephs rage, fear, guilt and indignation and makes for what is this years most powerful and rightly uncomfortable of listens. Make no mistake, this is absolute dynamite. FFO: Drive-By Truckers, Steve Earle & the Dukes, Jason Isbell, Son Volt.

Who? Wolf Solent

What? Shades of Mind

Where? York, England

What they say? Shades of Mind reflects three years in solitude for Wolf Solent since 2017 Sea Records release EP // 4. The track is taken from a forthcoming collection of songs about loss. A hazy Herman Hesse smoked out Spiritualized cacophony it was written, recorded and performed in his home studio Spiral Attic in Feb 2020.

Why we love it? Danny Trew is Wolf Solent and in between his other musical commitments with Cowgirl, The Illness and more besides he continues to drive this project forward. The journey is one where Trew distils despair and delight into an often blissed-out exposition of life as he knows it. Shades of Mind continues that cosmic expedition into future space. Who? Davy Boi

What? do myself better

Where? LA

What they say? Do Myself Better is a pledge to take self-care more seriously. Its about looking at Imposter Syndrome in the face and confronting daily anxiety in a tongue & cheek manner. I know other people are experiencing feelings of not being the best versions of themselves, so I wanted to give a voice to that and say, Hey, youre not alone. Same here.

Why we love it? A positive, motivating anthem about self-care that acknowledges our inner-saboteur but looks beyond it into the future and begins a process of healing. Perfectly crafted with a mixture of classic soul, a vibe of old Hollywood, and alternative R&B. The track subverts your expectations in all the right ways with attention to detail in the production that adds layers to the listening experience. I say this without a doubt in my mind: this is Davy Bois best offering to date and the future is bright for this rising star. (Lloyd Best)

Who? Body Double

What? The Floating Hand

Where? Oakland

What they say? The Floating Hand is generally about competition and your options for reacting to it. I grew up in a few different countries because my dad was a Marine, and each move felt interplanetary: the language changed, what was good and bad changed, even the bugs crawling on the ground changed. I felt at odds with conservative military culture and run-of-the-mill high school viciousness and fantasized about one day finding a safe haven in punk and underground music. It turns out that even amongst weirdos youll still see people undercut each other, and you might be a maladjusted alien regardless of scenery. I wrote this song about a musician I thought was particularly nasty, and it ended up being about myself, which is what happens whenever I try to write a dis track.

Why we love it? Ghostly new wave delivered with dollops of menace by front lady Candace Lazarou and her accomplices. The taught baselines and nagging guitars slither through the divides of post-punk and gothic paranoia, feeding into an unsettling feeling of being out of place. A seriously impressive slab of artful noise, a glimpse of whats to come from the Body Doubles debut album Milk Fed. (Bill Cummings)

Who? 0171

What? Photograph

Where? East London

What they say? Photograph is inspired by looking at a photo of an ex, the band said. A photo that records a moment when everything seemed perfect, but now its a lie, and it makes you feel strange like you cant really remember who you were in that photo when you loved that person. Like a life that never happened. Weve all picked up old photos like that we find in our bedroom, that make you sit down and feel sad for a time that is lost, even if you dont regret the relationship ending. Im (Joe) definitely someone who spends a lot of time thinking about my past, and the feelings that Ill never get back. Georgies there in this song to tell me to get over it ffs.

Why we love it? Experimental alternative pop with unusual synths, samples and beats juxtaposed with a soft vocal tinged with sadness that yearns for resolve. 0171 takes us on a journey through heartache and personal exploration to a soundtrack of electronic excellence. (Lloyd Best)

FFO: No Rome, Easy Life, Georgia

Who? Wuh Oh

What? Softstyle

Where? Glasgow

What they say? What would the ultimateWuhOh video game look like? This has been the question permeating many of our discussions for months. Turns out it looks less like real video games and more like the games of our dreams. Combining an eclectic mix of our favourite pop culture, film, and anime influences, Softstyle is untethered by stylistic limitations, representing a reality where anything is possible and where goblins run riot.

Why we love it? High energy and delightfully motivating. This relentless barrage of synths, beats, and attitude-filled vocals is a marvel for the ears and is an instant mood-lifter if you need it, as many of us do these days. Hands down, the best song Wuh Oh has released thus far and a fantastic showcase of their talents and their dynamic, progressive art. (Lloyd Best)

FFO: SONIKKU, SOPHIE, Zedd

Who? Tired Runner

Who? Port Song

Where? England

What they say? The shipping forecast issued by Tired Runner, on behalf of a fractured heart, at every hour and minute of the day and for the period now until never again on this day and every day here after.

The general synopsis at midnight and beyond midnight, into the smallest hours, is:

Low emotive atmospheres west of Rockall expected many miles west of a song sung by midnight tonight. Low Fair Isle glacially moving away rapidly northwards and losing its identity.

Why we love it? Slow motion majestic isolation, as the ship pulls away from the shore. Dont save yourself dont think of anyone elsesings the mysterious singer amidst mournful organs and minimal electronic textures. A moment of wistful departure. (Bill Cummings)

The untold truth of Castle Rock – Looper

If you're at all familiar with the wondrously creepy worlds conjured by Stephen King, you know there are literary horrors too numerous to count available forCastle Rock's creative team to borrow from. And setting the series within the town of Castle Rock itself puts pretty much all of them at the fingertips of the show's writing team. If the first two seasons are any indication, Castle Rock's creatives may well try to use the entirety of those twisted tales (and the characters within) in crafting their own.

True to that concept, in its first two seasons, the series has already included elements, narratives, and characters from some of King's best-loved tales, including Rita Hayworth and the ShawshankRedemption,TheBody(akaStand ByMe),Salem's Lot,Misery,Cujo,Needful Things, and more.

Unlike other King adaptations, Castle Rockis not a straight-up re-telling of those stories, and typically uses them as a sort of entry point into the tangled universe of King's books. So far, that tactic has found the series putting wild new spins on familiar tropes, and molding them into a timeline-smashing narrative that's positively overflowing with all manner of King-tinged mirth and menace. That was particularly true of Castle Rock's second season, which found series writers blending a narrative mashup featuring King stalwarts like the Merrill family (The Body) and Annie Wilkes (Misery) with that of the body-snatching beasts first glimpsed inSalem's Lot.

General setting aside, those narratives had never crossed over in the pages of any of King's stories. Interwoven as they are inCastle Rock, those stories bring new depth, and some seriously sinister edginess to King's already unsettling creations, which makes Castle Rock a series at once boldly original, and singularly familiar.

Finally Today’s Tim arrives in virus-free holiday haven – Noosa News

Today Show weatherman Tim Davies has not been under a rock all his life but he admitted to being a first timer to Noosa as he live-crossed to the nation from Main Beach with a backdrop to cure any COVID-19 lockdown blues.

It makes my job really easy, you dont need to say too much, said the veteran journo, you just let the pictures sell it. We certainly did that this morning.

Tim and his crew had mail-order perfect Queensland winter conditions for his first of a three-day stay organised with the help of Tourism Noosa to feature Noosa River tomorrow and the hinterland Thursday.

This is my very first time to Noosa as I said to someone this morning on the boardwalk, he said.

She kind of looked at me as if I had three heads she wanted to know if I had been living under a rock or something.

Today Show's Tim Davies about to thrill ride and meet dolphins at Sunshine Beach.

Ive done other parts of the Sunny Coast, but Ive never made my way to Noosa but its been one of those places on the bucket list and its good to finally get here.

He said Laguna Bay presented perfectly for the TV viewers without a breath of wind.

We had a drone up and there were gasps coming from the control room from everyone back in wet old Sydney, Tim said.

They were very jealous.

The morning featured some beach yoga, and Tim hung out with a couple of local icons we had the Mercers (lifesaving father and daughter talents Darren and Jordan) down there so that was nice.

Another guest was master surfboard shaper turned Noosa councillor Tom Wegener, while Peter Kurivita of the Noosa Beach House dropped in to cook a pretty special breakfast of baked eggs that were unreal.

On arrival Monday he broke the ice with a Noosa Ocean Rider induction on the water at Sunshine Beach.

We had a huge pod of dolphins come past and they were flapping around us. It was just incredible, Tim said.

Today Show weatherman Tim Davies receives some surfboard shaping history lessons from Cr Tom Wegener.

Unlike some southerners Tim had no hassles when it came to arriving in Noosa, because he has been basically a Queensland refugee cooling his heels here for weeks as part of a Today Show directive.

This was after he had earlier this year gone into a two-week quarantine forced by returning to Australia after a skiing holiday just before the international borders closed.

That was 10th/11th March when COVID really started to take hold. We were in the third flight that landed in Sydney but ScoMo had ordered only home isolation at that stage, Tim said.

You have to take it seriously, my biggest concern now is complacency.

Queensland is COVID-free, but thats not excuse to be shaking hands and high-fiving, you just never know whos snuck over that border.

Tim said hes been in Queensland for three-and-a-half-weeks after arriving in Cairns on assignment when his boss called from Sydney telling him to stay north for the foreseeable future.

Im here for a while, I have no idea how long that will be.

Hell gratefully accept being a temporary Queenslander providing he does not have to wear the Maroon jersey.

After leaving the Hastings St precinct, Tim and his crew were headed up to Double Island Point four-wheel driving to take in the Coloured Sands.

Its magic job to have. I hope to sustain it as long as I can, because living out of a suitcase on the road does take a toll after a while, Tim said.

Its not always about glamour, but it is such a blessing to be able to get out and meet people and hear their stories, and showcase different regions.
