In Pics: Kolkata Is All Decked Up To Celebrate Christmas And Ready To Welcome The New Year – ED Times

Christmas and New Year is always a special event for Kolkata. With busy areas like Park Street, being converted to a walk-only road, to brightly lit- up streets, Christmas decorations, Christmas carols, and decorated churches, Kolkata gets in a different vibe altogether. With winter chills settling in, Kolkata gets in party mood when it comes to December. Preparations for the festive season starts as early as late-November. People pour in from all over the city and celebrate Christmas and New Year in central Kolkata, and the citys restaurants and pubs see a record-high footfall.

Kolkatasdiversity ensures that every religious festival is celebrated, and thus roundthe year people have a reason to celebrate. Although Kolkata has a soft cornerfor Durga Puja, Christmas acts as the cherry on the top of the cake ofKolkatas festive calendar. If you are in Kolkata during the Christmas and NewYear week, your celebration will always remain incomplete if you dont visitPark Street during the holiday season.

Esplanade

Hawkers line up with several Christmas accessories, adding to the Christmas vibe.

Crowds pour in from all over the city to The Esplanade and New-Market area.

Severalstalls are set up which sells trendy posters and postcards.

ParkStreet

Once you take the turn towards Park Street, you walk into a different world altogether.

With roads filled with Christmas decorations, roads brightly-lit with Christmas lights, visitors flood the area to take part in the holiday celebrations.

As you walk towards Allens Park, you get to see people, all of them wearing Santa-caps, and on top of the hundreds of bobbing red-heads, you have a blanket of light, covering up the streets.

Kolkata starts preparing for this set-up a month in advance, for come Christmas, this street will be No-Entry zone for all cars and it will turn to a Walk-only road.

Christmas will remain incomplete without Santa. And, if you are in Park Street, you cant miss the Christmas decoration of Santa and the Christmas tree in front of Apeejay House.

Many shops set-up stalls, which sells a wide range of items like cakes, sweets, fries, and even Christmas decorations.

Although Park Streets Oxford Bookstore is one of my favourite places in the city but with Christmas, it becomes all the more special. Although frequented by people all through the year, this place has a different ambience in the Christmas season for the decorations the shop puts up.

Close to Oxford Bookstore, you will find several bars, pubs and nightclubs which are loved by the young crowd in the festive month. During this festive season, Kolkatas nightlife is way more energetic and if you are into partying, you will love the ambience of Park Street.

Christmas in Kolkata means a visit to Park Street. And, Christmas celebration remains incomplete without Allens Park

Allens Park Christmas decoration of baby Jesus, mother Mary and the Magi adds to the whole holiday mood.

Allens Park light decorations are one of a kind.

Every year in December, Kolkata lights up and gets in a festive mood. For Kolkata, December means, cold winter mornings, Christmas and welcoming a new year while forgetting all the bad things that it has gone through in the previous year. No matter who you are, which community you belong to or even how busy you are, visiting Park Street in Christmas is a ritual for the people living in Kolkata, and this tradition has been there for quite a while. If you are having a mundane month and hoping to get involved in something cheerful, theres no better place for you to be than Kolkatas Park Street. Hoping Santa brings you everything you have wished for, heres ED Times wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.

Five artists to watch in 2020: From Girl in Red to PVA – Evening Standard

Your guide to what's hot in London

With the decade drawing to a close, it's time to look forward to a new era of music.

Judging by the last 10 years, the 20s have a lot to live up to there's been some serious musical innovation, which sets a pretty daunting precedent for the next generation.

So, who will kickstart thisnew dawn? Here, weve picked out five young musicians set to do just that, and have particularly big years in 2020.

Check out a sample of their sound below, and be sure to keep an eye on them over the next 12 months.

Charli featured two of the best, if not the best pop songs of the year: Gone and 1999, featuring Christine and the Queens and Troye Sivan respectively. For those tracks alone, wed have been tempted to put this album on the list, but there was plenty more throughout the 13 other songs to warrant its inclusion. Charli XCXs astute taste for bangers was undiminished, but her experimentalism shone brighter here than on any of her previous releases a prime example being Click, surely inspired by avant-pop pioneer SOPHIE but packing in plenty of fresh intrigue. Her more intimate moments, exposed when she stepped away from the dancefloor, were painfully compelling, too: Hate myself, I really love you/ Hurting you feels like Im hurting as well,'' she lamented on White Mercedes.

Assume Form, James Blakes fourth and most accessible album, found the singer-songwriter in his most loved-up mood yet. The collection of knotty, wonky pop songs drew heavily on his relationship with actress and TV presenter Jameela Jamil, and songs like the title track spoke about their love as a rebirth, helping him see the world with fresh eyes (Going through the motions my whole life/ I hope this is the first day/ That I connect motion to feelings). His experiments with trap and hip hop influences on the likes of Mile High featuring Travis Scott and Tell Them were well done, with his talent as a producer and his expressive falsetto transcending genre. I Cant Believe the Way We Flow is as pure a love song as Blake will likely ever produce, and an incendiary turn from Andre 3000 on Wheres The Catch was a standout. But it was the elegant, haunting beauty of Dont Miss It which made the biggest impact, and formed arguably Blakes finest moment to date.

After making her name with gritty, lo-fi indie over the past decade, the Missouri singer-songwriter went big and bold on her fourth album, mixing scything guitars with crashing drums and an enormous-sounding 14-piece orchestra. Opening track Lark was stunning and in its scale, painful and hopeful in equal measure. If only we could start again, pretending that we dont know each other, she sung the track, and the record as a whole, was a new beginning in every sense, seeing her achieve something truly remarkable. Jherek Bischoffs orchestral arrangements added a grandiosity throughout and the title track dripped with poise and elegance, with Angels impassioned delivery adding a gritty edge. Its an ambitious and at times awe-inspiring work that furthers Olsens status as a searing talent.

On Lizzos breakthrough release, self-confidence wasnt so much a theme as a fundamental truth. That much was obvious from the first 10 seconds a flooring barrage of ground-shaking vocals and booming instrumentation. And it continued, with one-liner after one-liner. Only exes that I care about are in my f***ing chromosomes, she rapped on Like A Girl, and on Juice: I be drippin so much sauce/ Got a b**** lookin like ragu. That second song was the perfect encapsulation of Lizzos newfound glory: a carefree, self-loving slice of retro-futurist funk, with a voice sounding both like an old soul veteran and a hyper-modern star, belting out one of the catchiest choruses you'll have heard in 2019. Cuz I Love You was certainly the feel-good album of the year, and with the torrent of awfulness that seemed to dominate the news cycle, it was a most welcome tonic

Shouty men in loud bands are all the rage these days, but Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten drew power from restraint. On Dogrel, not once did his delivery lash out into anything close to a growl or bark. In fact, he barely seemed to even raise his voice, instead finding potency and, crucially, distinctiveness in his deadpan drawl. His pared-back style wasnt entirely matched by his bandmates. These songs, rooted largely in post-punk, were written in the pubs of Dublin, and it showed. Boys in the Better Land was a rowdy pint-flinger, while Dublin City Sky was a booze-soaked ballad. Chatten managed to find poetry among the haze The city in its final dress/ And now a gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps/ Of withered leaves all about your feet, he sang on album standout Too Real and there were quieter, more tender moments, like on the warmly downbeat Roys Tune. All of it, though, was bracing.

We waited a long while for Magdalene ever since FKA Twigs became one of the most hyped names in the business after her 2014 breakthrough LP1, in fact. Were glad she took her time. The album was a triumph of heartbreak, fractured love and rebirth, so candid and piercingly intimate. The singer, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, drew heavily on her break-up from actor Robert Pattinson, and the sorrow was palpable on tracks like Thousand Eyes (If I walk out the door, it starts our last goodbye/ If you don't pull me back it wakes a thousand eyes). Cellophane, though, was the heart of the album, the sparse ballad marking one of the most astonishingly emotional tracks of the year. Didn't I do it for you? Why don't I do it for you? she lamented. It was incredibly moving, and the highlight of an extraordinarily powerful release.

GREY Area felt like it had been a long time coming for Little Simz. As an artist, she had remained unrushed, releasing a string of EPs before her debut album in 2015, A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons. It never felt like she was treading water, though. Instead, the Islington rapper had been patiently honing her craft, experimenting and making plans. On GREY Area, those plans were realised with startling clarity. Her flow was malleable but meticulous, with lyrics that bristled with honesty (most potently, perhaps, on the song Venom, when she offered another theory on why it had taken her this long to get the recognition she deserves: They would never wanna admit I'm the best here/ From the mere fact that I've got ovaries). The genre-melding music was refreshingly organic, too, recorded largely using live instruments, slinking from booming hip-hop to slick funk. This might have been Little Simzs third and best album, but you know shes only just getting started.

In 2019, Dave the confirmed his status as one of the pre-eminent voices in UK rap at the age of just 21. Hes made his name in singles in the past, but Psychodrama was one of the most coherent and conceptual albums of the past 12 months, presented with skits between tracks, taking the form of a therapy session. The album tackled everything from mental health to abuse and prison reform, and Black which focuses fervently on struggles and stigmas facing black Britons was the kind of impassioned, chest-bursting state-of-the-nation address that leaves you speechless (Black is pain, black is joy, black is evident/ It's working twice as hard as the people you know you're better than). Streatham found him on confessional and candid form, while Burna Boy collaboration Location is one of the most club-friendly tracks of the year. It was an album that played fast and loose with genre, mixing grime, dancehall and more to encapsulate perfectly where Londons music scene was headed.

Explicit and exquisite, Norman F***ing Rockwell saw Lana Del Rey produce her finest work which is saying something after the excellent string of Ultraviolence, Honeymoon and Lust for Life. It marked something of a departure from her previous work, which has often been about creating immersive, evocative pieces, with plush production and taught musicality. On Norman F***ing Rockwell, most of the tracks were laid bare with piano and minimal strings and guitar work. The album was co-written with producer Jack Antanoff, who also had a hand in a number of tracks on Taylor Swifts Lover, and together the pair kept things refreshingly uncluttered. It allowed her incredible voice to come to the fore more than ever before, with the singer putting more trust in her delivery and reaping the rewards. The likes of Bartender and the woozy title track evoked Joni Mitchell and stalwarts of other American folk rock. No-one has been this eloquent or expressive about American iconography for years.

This was Richard Dawson's most accessible album. But the unprecedented catchiness of his hooks allowed them to dig deeper beneath the skin. They told stories of workers toiling in a fulfilment centre, the homeless person who gets a kicking while wrapped up in a sleeping bag, or the distraught civil servant who doesnt have the heart to explain to another poor soul why it is their Disability Living Allowance will be stopping shortly. It painted a damning portrait of this country and, were it not for the warmth of Dawson's songwriting, 2020 may well have been unbearable. But it was his extraordinary empathy that kept us going. The truth of it all was inescapable. Many of Dawsons musical edges remained sharp, and largely unpredictable, which mirrored the anxious instability of our times. There were fleeting moments of hope, like the closing minute-or-so of Jogging, which bordered on ecstatic. By and large, though, this was the perfect soundtrack to the year: brilliantly awful.

There were fleeting moments of hope, like the closing minute-or-so of Jogging, which bordered on ecstatic. By and large, though, this was the perfect soundtrack to the year: brilliantly awful.

Speedy Wunderground, the astute label helmed by Dan Carey, is proving that groups of musicians with guitars can be genuinely innovative again. Black Midi are the most famous signees especially after that unhinged performance on national telly at the Mercury Prize ceremony but 2020 looks like it might be a huge year for one of their labelmates: Black Country, New Round. The lead vocalist, Isaac Wood, delivers enigmatic sprawls and sounds either like a deadpan narrator or a teetering madman. The rest of the band serve considered cacophonies, inspired by klezmer, post-punk and more. Only two songs have been formally released so far the next cant come soon enough.

Emerging as part of GAIKAs The Spectacular Empire collective, London-based artist Gloria has been turning heads with her futurist take on R&B. Her five-track EP, Testify, released earlier in 2019, is superb an icy blend of legacy and innovation, with deeply delivered vocals and avant-garde tendencies. Theres a hint of FKA Twigs to her style, both in sound and ambition, so 2020 looks like it could be a special year for Gloria.

Arlo Parks, the 19-year-old from Hammersmith, first came to attention back in 2018 with the release of Cola. Since then, shes been drip-feeding us with a stream of singles and EPs, gradually adding layers to her sound, which weaves in lo-fi bedroom pop, emo, spoken word, R&B and more. She was named on the BBC Sounds of 2020 shortlist, which can either be a blessing (ask Ellie Goulding, winner in 2010) or a curse (ask The Bravery, winners in 2005). Judging by her output so far, shes erring towards the former.

Yet another band signed to Speedy Wunderground, PVA have been generating hype on the live scene throughout 2019. They only have a couple of songs online, which has been a conscious decision from the three-piece go to see them live if you want the real experience. Their sound is still evolving, with 80s synth pop influences mingling alongside art-school cool, but its all designed to get people sweaty and moving, and sounds thrillingly fresh.

As is often the way with cult heroes who emerge into the mainstream from the online realm, Norways Girl In Red already has a formidable fanbase the 20-year-old has more than 130 million combined streams on her four most popular tracks on Spotify. Its not hard to see why shes struck such a chord, with dreamily melancholic indie pop that instantly speaks to all the fervent, melancholy emotions of adolescence. With songs like I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend, shes already been heralded as an LGBTQ+ icon for the next generation.

The world knew beforeBrittany Feliciano.

Feliciano was upstairs in her Myrtle Beach home.Like so many others watching for Hurricane Dorians arrival Sept. 5,all she had to do that day was wait and worry.

So, she moldedPlay-Doh forher newborn.

She watchedhim. The Weather Channel. Her Facebook feed.

Thenafriend from Charleston messaged Feliciano with a question, and the answer to it would change the course of Feliciano's day, week and coming months.

There's a red Jeep Cherokee on the beach, the messageread. Could it be hers?

By thatpoint, the sensational image of a Jeep stranded in the waves already belonged tosocial media stand-ups.

In the coming hours, it would launch a series of #DorianJeep memes, with the abandoned SUV photoshopped into sea scenes from"Castaway," "Titanic" and "The Little Mermaid." It made headlines in The New York Times and CNN. The Twitter feeds of the likes of Good Morning America's Ginger Zee.

That all added up to anofficial, searchable nickname Myrtle Beach Jeep.

Related: A Jeep got stuck on Myrtle Beach before Hurricane Dorian. Then the internet got ahold of it.

More: Someone in Myrtle Beach drove a Jeep into the ocean before the storm. Hurricane Dorian didn't want it.

The not-yet-famous also got in on the gag. Someone shot video of a man appearing to meditate on the roof of the 2014 vehicle with waves crashing around him. Another clip featured a different man playing "Amazing Grace" and "Taps" on the bagpipes during low tide.

Musician Stan James Gregory said he wanted to see the internet-famous Jeep in Myrtle Beach on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019. His wife, Paula, got a photo for his website.(Photo: KEN RUINARD / GANNETT USA TODAY NETWORK)

Thousands tuned into#JeepWatch2019, a live feed set up by a local TV station.

It became a sort of mascot for Hurricane Dorian'sU.S. landfall. Myrtle Beach Jeepwas a distraction from the destruction and comic relief from the harrowingforecasts that gripped coastal communities for days in September.

Dorian was the second-most-powerful storm ever recorded in the Atlantic. In its slow march toward the U.S., it ravaged the Bahamas for days, killing at least 61 people and flattening miles ofneighborhoods.

Now, at the close of adecade defined by social media sensations, Myrtle BeachJeep joined the ranks of other viral stars of the recent past: apregnant giraffe named April, a watermelon squeezed by rubber bands, thatWyoming intersection traffic camera.

Back on Sept. 5, the world wide web watched and waited as the waves rose and fell. Hurricane Dorian came and left, leaving just snapped leaves and toppled trashcans on Ocean Boulevard. By the next morning, the skies were clear, and the Myrtle Beach Police Department towed the Myrtle Beach Jeepaway.

The Internet moved on.Feliciano did not.

It was her Jeep, and she wanted this moment to mean something more.

About five minutes afterFeliciano read her friend's message, she heard a knock on the door.

It was a police officer. An officer on the doorstep was all she and her husband needed to see to know the Jeep going viral used to be parked at their house.

Felicianos husband's cousin was driving the Jeep.

Feliciano has four kids, so she opted for the familyminivan. The cousin needed a car, and they had one they weren't using. And the Felicianosare the kind of people who offer solutions to others people's problems.

The cousin isexactly the type of person who would end up driving toward the beach in a hurricane, Feliciano said. "He is literally the most adventurous."

He's that cousin.

He was trying to grab some video of the ocean before the storm hit and the sun rose, Feliciano said. When he turned around to head back, he hit a drainage wall. The carcouldn't move. But he could. So, he left to find help.

But he was in an evacuation zone. Businesses were closed. Services were limited.

When he returned, the bloated ocean was shaking andshiftingthe car weighing atleast 3,000 pounds as if it was agitated with the thing.

It was too late. The cousinleft without the car, and he didn't call the Felicianos to tell them what had just happened.

No charges were filed against the driver, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department. It is illegal to drive on the beach.

Feliciano is from Bladen County, near Wilmington, North Carolina. After Hurricane Florence flooded the region in 2018, she drove her minivan, packed with donations, back home. She's seen people she cares so much aboutlose so much to a natural disaster.

The day the Jeep left the beach, she and her husband, Nick, launched a GoFundMe aiming to pivot thespotlight toward the humanitarian crisis in the Bahamas. It raised a couple thousand forUNICEF USA to help with the disaster relief. The goal was $100,000.

"Anything is better than nothing," Feliciano said.

They earned another $50 from a celebrity appearance at the AutoFair at Charlotte Motorspeedway in October.

The couple, however, didn't give up on their belief that their loss couldhelp others who lost so much more.

Their insurance company totaled the Jeep, but the couple got a year grace period to use the car for charity drivesbefore it heads to its final destination, the salvage yard.

For the holiday season, the couple launched a Fill the Jeep event. They are seekingnon-perishable food items to donate to South Strand Helping Hand, a social services organization in Surfside Beach.

The Jeep is now back at theFeliciano house. They keep it cloaked in a cover.

In early December, the car looked a bit different than it did in those viral beach images. The Jeep was part of a float in a Christmas Parade in North Myrtle Beach, cast as a 2019 version of the Grinchs sled. It was like the Jeep wasphotoshopped into a scene from the animated classic.

A string of Christmas and silver tinsel garland lined the sides. The roof carried a redsack stuffed with the Grinch's loot.

Stacked presents concealed the damage on the front.

Look At 10 Mustang Modifications That Leave Us Scratching Our Heads (10 That Are Awesome) – TheThings

The Ford Mustang is the most popular sports car in America and, as such, its also one of the most frequently modified cars. But not every modification is created equal. This article was written to show why we trust the professionals to do our modding. Dont try to install a body wrap yourself, for instance. Itll come out bad, people will make fun of you, and youll ruin a perfectly good vehicle.

SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Market Association, is a show that exhibits some of the coolest cars and mods of the year. For four years in a row, from 2012 to 2015, the Ford Mustang won the hottest car of the year. Some of the best Mustang mods were showcased (a few of which well show here).

Others are just plain head-scratchers. Why would someone tarnish a perfectly good sports car? Well, youll have to ask the modifiers themselves. Here are 10 Mustang mods that make us scratch our head, and 10 that are awesome.

Whoever decided this was a good idea should surely not be allowed to modify any other cars in their life. This rainbow Mustang, or painbow, as one user called it on Reddit, is a horned horror of a first-generation muscle car, and it somehow manages to take all the pony and muscle out of the car.

While the paintjob is definitely expertly done, it just looks tacky and overly flowery. For an aggressive car like the big-block-engined Stang, this is a fail.

This Mustang was modded and advertised by MGP Caliper Covers, who really know how to decorate a car and spiff it out. The caliper covers prevent brake heat and reduce brake dust, as well as adding color and style behind the wheel. These mods are definitely a nice addition to any Stang, and if this Metallic Gray one is any indication, itll liven up your ride.

This is another perfect example of a modified car that just went too far. Whoever worked on this one didnt care how over-the-top they were going, and the result is one of the try-hardest Stangs weve ever seen.

As CarThrottle.com put it, Would you like some rice with that Mustang, because the attempt to make it into a race car while its really just a ricer (poser) is unquestionably bad.

This crazy looking Mustang takes neon colors to a whole new level. Its not only awesome looking, but it was built by Microsoft and packed with a Windows 8 touchscreen, Kinect sensors, and an Xbox 360.

West Coast Customs help put the whole thing together, and theyve called it the Microstang. Its a 2012 Mustang retrofitted with Dynacoms 1967 Fastback replica body, with a rear windshield projector screen, and an augmented reality front windshield! Truly a work of art.

This particular neon green Mustang is featured on many worst of lists, including this one. Not only is it downright ugly and offensive, but who decided that that Flubber green was the winning color? And the ridiculously oversized wheels just make it even worse. If anyone sees you getting out of this car, they will never take you seriously youll be seen as a joke forever; just a fair warning.

This Mustang is only available in the Indian market with a 5.0-liter V8 and a Stage 2 Procharger upgrade that increases the power. It has GT350 fenders, a Boogie Racing differential, Stage 2 Steeda suspension kit, Roush exhaust system, and Roush X pipes that increase performance while adding a throaty exhaust note. The GT350R spoiler gives it an aggressive but practical stance.

Other modifications include a Cervini hood, RTR race diffuser, and 20-inch Ferrari FR1 rims.

Many people have tried to take the chassis of one car and cram it onto the chassis of another, but this one takes that idea to the worst level possible. Its supposed to be a mixture of a Ford Mustang and a Ford Ranger. TheRanger on the back, Mustang on the front just looks horrible.

Trucks arent supposed to have rounded fronts like a Fox-body Mustang (which is already the ugliest body shape of the Mustang family).

At the 2015 SEMA show, the Ford Mustang was named the hottest car for the fourth year in a row. Ford showcased no less than eight crazy Ford mods, including this aftermarket enhanced police demon.

You definitely wouldnt want to see red and blue lights flashing behind you if the officer was driving this bad boy. Every Mustang was sweet looking, but this one holds a particular interest because of its front pit-maneuvering fender, and its coloration.

Heres another person who totally messed up their Fox-body Mustang, and for no good reason. This is another example of a ricer that has been called one of the worst modifications for a Stang by VWVortex.com, Reddit, and more. Besides the terrible, ill-fitting body kit, the paint job is bad, the rims look snotty, and its just trying to hard to be something its not (a race car).

This was another modded Mustang showcased at 2015 SEMA, and it almost looks unrecognizable from a stock Stang. Thats because, as you can see by all the words on the door, this car was sponsored and endorsed by some of the biggest names in aftermarket parts, including Toyo Tires, Corsa, Airlift and more. Those gold wheels on a white body look spectacular, and the slightly raised hood gives the car an ominous appearance.

This ugly Ford Mustang is probably a joke car if the wrapped felt cobra doll around the spoiler is any indication, but it still shouldnt be allowed on the road. The problem here is that even though it may be a 1997 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra (as the license plate boasts), it still isnt something that needs to be advertised in such a childish way.

Get rid of the little snake decals and just run this thing on the track like its meant to be driven.

This crazy modded car, dubbed the Mustang GT Eagle Squadron, is a one-off model that celebrates the Royal Air Forces centenary, back in 2018. It was unveiled at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Eagle Squadron was a group of volunteer pilots who flew combat missions alongside the RAF prior to the USs official entry into WWII. The Stang features a carbon-fiber widebody kit from RTR, an illuminated grille frame, front chin spoiler, Gurney lip for the rear spoiler, and a number of diffusers and splitters.

All right, at a certain point, you just need to know when to throw in the towel and throw the whole Mustang away. Thats what this owner needs to do. This disgustingly ugly abomination is actually a Stang underneath all that graffiti and ill-fitting plastic. What is that popping out of the hood, an industrial fan?

Hopefully this thing is headed directly for the scrapyard, because it doesnt belong anywhere else.

This Mustang was bought in Japan and fitted with the Performance Pack, and painted in Guard Metallic Gray. Its definitely a racer, and we like it because its not overly gaudy, but still looks cool and fast. It was built a piece at a time with aftermarket wheels, tires, and more.

This is a S550 Mustang GT, and its sure to put a smile on your face unless youre driving alongside it and the sun reflects in your eyes from its metallic paintjob.

In true Murica fashion, the owner of this Mustang has opted to paint their car in the style of the American flag. Now, theres nothing wrong with being proud of where youre from, but this might be taking it a bit too far.

Granted, the paint job is at least well done, but its an abrasive act. You dont need to beat anyone over the head with how American you are we get it. But the owner of this Stang felt the need, and here we have it.

As far as Mustangs go, it doesnt get much better than the 1966 Coupe. This modified, first-generation Stang is truly remarkable looking. Its golden paintjob is sure to turn heads, its wheels look sweet, and it was actually bought to tow a 24-foot speed boat, thanks to its big-block engine.

Australian Rob Di Masullo, a 44-year-old, detailed and modified this 66 Coupe, and has had it for 18 years, though its only been in a state of completion for the last three.

Were not even sure what half the things on this car are supposed to be, or what theyre used forwe just know they all have the name Ford or Mustang on them. It looks like the car is covered in painted cardboard.

Even without the strange, off-putting signs designating that this in fact a Ford Mustang, it still has a horrible paint job. And the little wheel covers are blasphemous, as well as a spoiler that looks like its angled the wrong direction.

Usually trippy colors and overly attention-seeking paint jobs arent too thrilling to look at. Theyre too gaudy and annoying. But this rose gold-wrapped Mustang manages to look regal and important without being too self-indulgent. Its not too shiny, and it doesnt look like a bling object that a Saudi Arabian prince would own its tastefully wrapped and looks extremely classy. But its also a head-turner at the same time.

Finally, we get this newish Mustang that is exhibit A when describing when someone is trying too hard to impress. The best modifications on a car are the ones that are tastefully done sometimes you cant even see them.

This gaudy, heavy piece of machinery is an embarrassment to the Mustang name. It looks like it belongs to Vin Diesel in the Fast and the Furious, but that would be an insult to Diesel. So, really, it just belongs in the junkyard.

This wonderful Mustang, dubbed White Beauty by the people who worked on it, is a work of art. With its red Rohanna wheels and its white wrap that takes away all semblance of a stock Mustang, its truly amazing looking.

Now, yes, it might look like something will.i.am would work on a futuristic version of the Mustang and many might think its over-the-top, but there are much worse examples of badge-less, white-on-red Mustangs out there.

Opinion: Five players who should hang their heads in shame after Chelsea defeat – The Spurs Web

Tottenham Hotspur were dismal against Chelsea yesterday evening in North London, handing the Blues a simple 2-0 win.

Few players will escape criticism, but lets take a look at the five worst who should hang their heads in shame.

Heung-min Son

I cant say I think that Spurs were finding a way back into that game, but Son wiped any chance of that away with his silly red. This isnt the first time we have seen this from the winger either. The kick out was pretty tame, but still a red by the letter of the law and Son should be apologising to the fans for such a stupid action.

Eric Dier

Did absolutely nothing. Failed to shield the back line, his passing was woeful, he barely made a challenge, and he was subbed at half time for a reason. When will Jose give up on him?

Dele Alli

Didnt seem to be playing his normal position and just got lost among the Chelsea bodies. Couldnt find space and was poor on the ball the few times he did get it. The most lively we saw him was in a scrap where he looked as if he might do something silly and see red.

Harry Kane

Barely in the game all evening, and missed his one golden chance from a Sissoko assist. His touch was way off today, failed to compete much in the air, and didnt have any meaningful shots.

Paulo Gazzaniga

What on earth was he doing? Seemingly had to come out and catch or punch the ball, but tried to kick it, missed, and gave away a penalty at a hugely vital point of the match. Just as he was starting to play consistently well in a Spurs shirt too.

Anger as Ed Miliband heads Labour election inquest – The Week UK

A series of Labour figures have responded with anger and derision to the news that Ed Miliband will spearhead the review into why the party lost the general election.

Labour Together, which is running a cross-factional commission into the partys worst election showing since 1935, will assess what went wrong in the December poll.

The former party leader, who lost the 2015 general election, will be joined by Lucy Powell MP, his campaign manager for that unsuccessful bid.

It is just so poorly judged by Ed... people are frankly flabbergasted at the breathtaking arrogance of it all, one Labour source told The Times.

Another disclosed that a WhatsApp group of centrist Labour MPs had become pretty fruity when Milibands role was announced.

A shadow minister joined the chorus of disapproval, saying: The party simply doesnt need a post-mortem carried out by a self-nominated group consisting of a failed leader and his chief of staff who themselves have not given an adequate explanatory account of their lost election in 2015.

An unnamed Labour MP said: Those people who have appointed themselves to lead this so-called commission facilitated Corbynism, then enabled it and now want to sustain it.

Lord Adonis, a former Labour cabinet minister, said: The funniest proposition since the election is that Ed Miliband should lead a review into why it was lost for Labour.

Ben Bradshaw, Labour MP for Exeter since 1997, suggested on Twitter that it would be preferable for the reviews leader to have experience of actually winning a general election.

However, Powell responded said the criticism was nonsense. She told The Guardian that Miliband retained his Labour seat in the red wall as others fell to the Tories. She also argued that the former leader has been campaigning in the traditional heartland of Doncaster regularly for the past four years and has as much to offer as the next person.

LifestyleFood and DrinkTwo billion people worldwide who chomp insects

Friday, 15th November 2019, 7:57 pm

At a market in Goma, a city in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, an old woman pulls the wings off live grasshoppers and tosses their wriggling bodies into a bucket. She collected the insects from the airport at 5am that morning, and will go back the next day. Grasshopper season has just begun.

Throughout November, dozens of grasshopper-hunters gather at Goma airport most mornings. It is one of the few buildings in the city with constant electricity, and the lights that mark the runway attract swarms of the bug. People stuff them into plastic bottles to take to market. Buyers season them with salt and eat them with rice or cassava.

Selling insects is more lucrative than selling fruit. A small pile of grasshoppers fetches the equivalent of 47p; Congos GDP per person is 436. Gathering them costs nothing but time. Caterpillars are more valuable still. Once they are boiled and salted, a large handful will sell for 90p the same price as 10 bananas.

Households in Kinshasa, the countrys sprawling capital, consume about 300g of caterpillars (about 80, if they are averagely juicy) a week.

Caterpillars are tasty

The Congolese have been eating bugs for centuries. People say caterpillars, in particular, are not just tasty but healthy. Our ancestors taught us to eat them to protect us from illnesses, says Leonie Lukambala, a seller. She believes they can even help people infected with HIV.

Caterpillars are packed with potassium, calcium and magnesium. A hundred grams of them will provide a person with the required daily intake of each of these minerals. They are richer in protein than beef or fish. A handful is packed with about 500 calories, more than are in a fast-food cheeseburger. But that is a boon, not a drawback, in a country that suffers from one of the worlds highest rates of malnutrition.

Others around the world should catch up. Bug farming takes up less land, requires less food and does less damage to the environment than meat or fish farming. Crickets, for example, need 12 times less food than cattle to produce the same amount of protein. Bugs can even be fed farm and kitchen waste, such as rotten fruit and vegetables.

Hunting insects is easy, too. Anyone can wander into the forest or, indeed, to the airport and gather caterpillars, ants and grasshoppers. But that can also lead to bad outcomes.

The wrong variety of insect can poison consumers. Mrs Lukambala says she knows which caterpillars to pick because her family has gathered them for generations (the safe kind have red heads and fall out of trees).

Your correspondent tried a sample: it was brittle and had a smoky taste. Add one more to the two billion people worldwide who chomp insects.

WATCH: Romeo Langford injures ankle, heads to locker room – Celtics Wire

Boston Celtics guard Romeo Langford, only recently assigned to the Maine Red Claws for the second time this season, has injured his ankle against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants after attempting to block a shot and getting his legs tied up with Mad Ants guard Brian Bowen III just seconds into the second quarter.

Theres been no specific diagnosis on Langfords injury as of yet although the rookie appeared to roll his right ankle. Per an announcement from the Red Claws (h/t MassLives Tom Westerholm), Langford wont return to the game due to his ankle injury.

Langford exited the game with a plus-minus of -1 and missed both shots he took in the seven minutes he played.

Though talented and the situation unfortunate, Langford is quickly earning the label of injury-prone, having sustained a groin injury, spraining a knee and now likely spraining his ankle in the period of two months. These injuries are only setbacks to his development and integration with the team, which is why hes playing in the G League despite being a lottery pick (14th overall).

Looking ahead, theres a possibility that Langford will miss Maines contest against the Raptors 905 on Saturday as well.

Replica 1966 Ford GT40 MKII used in ?Ford v Ferrari? heads to auction – Autoblog

Ford v Ferrari opens to wide theatrical release on Friday, and your chance to buy one of the replica Ford GT40 race cars driven by Christian Bale, and several stunt drivers, in the film is fast approaching.

Mecum is offering a Ken Miles Hero Car, one of a pair of replicas of the Superperformance Ford GT40 MKII that Ken Miles drove at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, helping Ford vanquish Ferrari from the victory podium after years of dominating the race. It goes on auction at Kissimmee in January.

Both replicas were built at Rich MacDonalds Superperformance Facility in Irvine, California, with the other, which is not on auction, being a replica of Bruce McLarens black GT40 that technically crossed the finish line in first place that year. This one comes painted in Gulf Blue, with the dual white racing stripes running the length down the middle, red patches surrounding the headlights, a black interior and right-hand drive, and is said to have served for most of the close-up shots, given its scrupulous attention to detail well before 20th Century Fox agreed to use it in the film.

Its powered by a custom Roush V8 stroked to 511 cubic inches that makes 600 horsepower, with a performance fuel injection system and a rear bundle of snakes exhaust. Its mated to a five-speed manual transaxle and features an independent front suspension with trailing arms, unequal-length lateral arms, Bilstein shocks with H&R springs and an anti-roll bar, plus rack-and-pinion steering, vented disc brakes with Wilwood calipers and Shelby American Halibrand-style wheels with knock-off hubs. The roof is pressed steel, and the car has a unibody structure made of electro-galvanized steel. Seats are replicas of the originals but covered in Alcantara with silver rivets.

The car comes signed by Charlie Agapoo, who was Miles crew chief, and Miles son Peter Miles. Mecum expects the car to fetch $275k to $325k.

Riverheads heads back to state semifinals with sweep of Middlesex – The News Leader

GREENVILLE - For the second straight season, Riverheads beat Middlesex in the Class 1 state quarterfinals. And this year the Gladiators did it in straight sets.

The Red Pride won 25-13, 25-11, 25-16 to advance to the state semifinals Tuesday night. Riverheads will travel to Rappahannock, the Region A champion and a five-set winner over Rappahannock County Saturday.

"We really just wanted to keep the momentum up, the energy high and just not get into those unneeded holes," said Riverheads senior Abbey Eavers, who finished with 12 kills andfour digs.

Check out our special subscription offers for The News Leader and get unlimited access to all our stories.

Outside of the first few moments of the match, Riverheads didn't find itself in many holes. Middlesex jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set before a kill by Sydney Phillips sparked a 9-0 run. Phillips had another kill in the run, while Eavers added a couple andSam Persinger added a pair of aces.

Middlesex never got closer than three the rest of the set.

Riverheads jumped on top 5-1 in the second set and never trailed. Then, after falling behind 12-11 in the final set, Riverheads went on a 5-0 run with help from a Gracie Fulton kill, and never looked back.

Dayton Moore finished with 26 assists. Phillips had six kills and eight digs in the win.

"I think it was very important to us, not just me, but as a team, we all worked super hard for this and we really wanted to go back," Phillips said of reaching the semifinals.

More: PHOTOS: Riverheads volleyball advances to state semifinals

Riverheads still has another step left before equalling last year's team, and needs two more wins to go a step beyond what Riverheads volleyball did in 2018. Last season the Gladiators reachedthe state championship match before coming up short of the title.

"We just want to redeem ourselves," Riverheads coach Nyssa Stapleton said. "We want to get back to where we were and then just prove that we can play a lot better than we did last year."

Eavers said they knew a little about Middlesex after playing them last year. In that match, Riverheads won in four sets. The Gladiatorstook that knowledge from a year ago into Saturday's match.

"And then played smart around what we knew they had," Eaverssaid

Middlesex coach Brian Walton noticed a few differences between the Riverheads team he saw this year and the one they lost to last season.

"The looked more scrappy," he said. "Still, No. 5 [Eavers] is the go-to. We knew that coming in and still couldn't do much with it ... [Riverheads] was definitely the better team than we were today."

For Every New Regulation, Cull Ten: Jokowi Tells Ministers and Regional Heads – Jakarta Globe

Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi"Widodo has asked regional governments to stop issuingtoo many localregulations and told his ministries to cull at least ten regulations before issuing a new one to cut bureaucratic red tapes andimprovethe country's competitiveness.

The president has already made regulatory reform one of his mainprioritiesin his second term. Jokowi was even willing to build a wide coalition in the cabinet to ensure support in the House of Representatives.

Now the president is pressuring theregional heads to follow his directive. Due to Indonesia's regional autonomy laws, regional leaders are immenselypowerful andtheir actions do notalways fall into line with central government policies.

"Wealready have toomany regulations. We need to entangle them. If every little thing needs a specific regulation, we'd always be slow totake action oradapt to changes,"Jokowi told hundreds of regional heads in a national coordination meeting on Wednesday.

Jokowi promised a sevenpercent growth whenhe became president in 2014 but the Indonesianeconomy has only been able to expand by around 5 percent annually since then.

Red tapes remain one of the main challenges inboostinginvestment, which is why the presidentis convinced simplifying them isthe key for the pace of growth he wants.

The president told his ministers to lead by example and push for regulatory reforms in their own ministries.

"If a minister wants to issueone new regulation, he or she must remove ten regulations first, not just two. Having too many regulations makes things very confusing," Jokowi said.

He said he took hisinspiration from a meeting with the United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross who said the US was now trading one new regulation with two old ones to simplify bureaucracy.

Jokowi saidflexibility and speed in the bureaucracy are very important for Indonesia. All countries are heading in that direction.

"Whoever is faster, wins. Everyone take note. Wemust understand and fix our own problems," Jokowi said.

The president also promised he woulddismisslaw enforcement officials who inhibit innovations.

In April, police arrested a farmer who sold a variety of rice seeds he cultivated from a subsidized seed provided by Jokowi's campaign team.

The farmer's fault was that he did not secure the proper paperwork before selling the seeds.

While not specifically referring to the case, the president said he did not want to see a similar incident in the future.

"Never come between innovation andprogress inthis country," he said.

"I will not tolerate law enforcement officials who try to inhibit innovation orfrighten and blackmail bureaucrats, officialsand business people. I will find out," Jokowi said.

If there was no malicious intent, do not go about and looking for one, the president said."If there are potential legal issues, remind them before they go on with their project, usea preventive approach. Do not wait for them[to violate the law], and then give them troubles," Jokowi said.Regional SupportAbdullah Azwar Anas, the chairman of the Association of Regional Governments (Apkasi), welcomed the president's direction."The president has told us what his priorities are. All theregional heads will follow them," Azwarsaid onthe sidelines of the meeting in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday.

"Maybe a meetinglike this with the president shouldbe held every three months,"Azwar said."Witha forum like this, ministers won'thave tomeet us individually anymore, since everyone isclear on what general directionthe government is heading to. Organizing meetings with each ministry is a bighassle for us,"he said.

Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle the Real-Life Inspiration of a Popular Netflix Movie? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

A normal girl meets a prince by chance. They fall in love, and despite the fact that she doesnt fit in with the royal family, they get married. They live happily ever after. Its a nice story, but for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, its real life.

We know that someday there will be a lot of movies and books dedicated to Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan. In the future, well need stories about their lives, their relationships, and more importantly, about all the great work that theyre doing. It might surprise some fans to learn that there may already be a movie out there about the royal couple.

As far as we know, Duchess Meghan and Princess Harry havent signed off on the movie that seems to follow their lives. The Netflix film does have some striking similarities to the royal couple, however. So much so that we think the creators of the movies are drawing from the real royal experience for inspiration.

There are 3 films in the series:A Christmas Prince,A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding, andA Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby. The first movie in the series was released on Netflix in the fall of 2017, and since then theyve released a new Christmas Prince movie every year just in time for the holiday season.

Fans notice some striking similarities between the story on the Christmas Prince and the Duke and Duchess of Sussexs life. Are the two timelines really that similar?

The way the couple in the movie meets is very different from how Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry met in real life. In the movie, a young reporter, Amber, sets off to write an expos on the life of Prince Richard. The prince has a reputation as a playboy, which makes him a juicy subject for Amber. To get close to the prince, Amber poses as a tutor. Obviously they fall in love, and end up together.

That story is not at all similar to how Meghan and Harry met. The real royal couple met through friends, and there was no deception on the duchess part.

Of course, she was a famous actress at the time. She already operated in the same social circle as Prince Harry, so she didnt need to fake anything.

Even though the story of how the characters met doesnt match up with how the real royal couple did, there are still plenty of similarities between real life and the movies. In 2018, Amber and Prince Richard got married inA Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding.Thats the same year Prince Harry and Markle tied the knot.

This year, Netflix has releasedA Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby, just months after the real royal baby, Archie, was born.

There are other clues that the creators are taking inspiration from Duchess Meghans real life for the movies. For example, Markle and Amber are both American. Neither come from royal blood.

It also turns out that Prince Richard was adopted, which may be inspired by Prince Harry. Even though Prince Harry wasnt adopted, the creators of the movie may be drawing from some ugly rumors about the real-life prince.

Since Prince Harry was a baby, the tabloids have speculated that Prince Charles might not be his real father. Prince Harrys red hair has led some to believe he is not Prince Charles son, even though Princess Diana comes from a family of redheads.

Princess Diana had an affair with a riding instructor for five years who happened to have red hair, but that was a coincidence. Prince Harry was already born by the time she met him.

Were not sure if Netflix is planning a fourth Christmas Prince movie, but the royal couple has certainly given them enough material to work with.

Red Cup Betting Guide: Rebels look for biggest upset of the year – Red Cup Rebellion

Opening up my banking app brought some very saddening and realistic news - last weeks picks were absolute garbage.

Thats on me, I got a little humbled going 1-3 last week for the first time in months dropping my record to 24-16 on the year. Weve got a couple futures wins already locked in as well, so were still teetering on fine and research ways to get a new identity in my opinion.

First off, huge tip of the hat to Ole Miss for proving me wrong and blasting New Mexico State and easily covering 28.5 points last week. Youre better men than me, because in your position, I would have probably mailed it in that week and relied on my talent.

Boston College literally gave away the game in the fourth quarter to Florida State and were an absolute mess only one week after they nearly broke the scoreboard on the road at Syracuse. Maybe its time to talk about the Noles making a late season surge in the wake of the Willie Taggart firing?

Ohio State predictably blasted Maryland (73-14), but I predicted an under 65 point total only to be stymied by a Buckeye offense that never let up. Plus the Terps made it double digits, which was the biggest surprise to me in this miss.

We did hit on the over in the Clemson-NC State game as the Tigers throttled the Wolfpack, so it was some solace on Saturday to salvage the week.

Now we look ahead to a slate of games tomorrow where rivalry games start to rear its ugly head. Auburn-Georgia, Michigan-Michigan St., and our Magnolia Bowl highlight week 12 picks - an over, an under, a moneyline and a spread. Lets get to the picks.

Both of these teams are averaging 30 points or more per game, though there are some blowout wins included in that statistic. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn has to feel the pressure mounting this season with Georgia and Alabama left with a potential to finish 8-4 after a strong start. I think Malzahn uses every play in the playbook this week to get a few touchdowns against Georgia. The Bulldogs meanwhile know they just need to win out, and theyre in the College Football Playoff again. This game is going to be a classic, and Id put it somewhere in that 28-24 kind of range and hitting the over.

The Tigers have one of the best offenses in the country, averaging 44 points per game, while the Rebels are middling around 24 points per game. Lets be real here, a lot of Ole Miss fans would hold their heads high with a 45-24 loss tomorrow to LSU. I think the Rebel coaching staff is going to look to shorten this game however possible, and the seniors on defense are going to step up and play lights out. Ole Miss has bowl eligibility on the line, and this game will be lower scoring than expected, bet the under.

You didnt know this was a huge rivalry game? The Battle for Highway 82?!? I mean, I guess it is a proximity or conference based rivalry that is super lopsided (Bama 81-18-3 overall) with the Tide owning an 11 game winning streak. I dont see that trend changing this year, but I also feel like Alabama will come in ready to show last weeks loss to LSU doesnt change the fact they are wanting another shot at a title. Crimson Tide by three touchdowns doesnt seem like a crazy spread this week, so bet the Tide to cover.

I dont like Jim Harbaugh or the Wolverines, but they are clearly the better team here though the 14-point spread is maybe a little too fat for me to get in on that action. Shea Patterson kind of looks like a pretty good quarterback, and Mark Dantonio is reportedly slipping onto the hot seat this season with a 4-5 record and a four game losing streak going into this rivalry game. The Spartans may be at risk of missing the postseason for the first time since 2016, and I think the Wolverines push them closer to it getting a win on Saturday.

So what rivalry game do you see causing absolute chaos on Saturday? What locks do you have for this week? Comment or tweet @redcuprebellion with your gambling picks.

Wintry weather puts crimp on bird watching at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge – NewYorkUpstate.com

SAVANNAH, N.Y. This past weeks snow and frigid temperatures put a crimp on the bird watching scene at the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge.

Normally this time of year, the refuge is teeming with large numbers of migrating waterfowl including ring-necked ducks, redheads, scaups, canvasbacks, and a full array of dabbling ducks such as wigeons and gadwalls.

But then the cold snap hit.

Currently, the refuges shallow marshes are frozen over, which prompted many of the ducks to leave for warmer climes. The few ducks sticking around are taking advantage of the open water in the adjacent Cayuga-Seneca Canal and Cayuga Lake, which is just south of the refuge, according to Linda Ziemba, wildlife biologist at the refuge.

If we have a thaw, theres a good chance the numbers of ducks at the refuge will go up again, she said.

Visitors to the refuge, however, can still see bald eagles, which hang around all winter -- plus other raptors.

The emergent marsh wetlands with overhanging mature trees within and adjacent to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge provide a home for 12 pairs of nesting bald eagles, up from nine in 2018, Ziemba said. In both 2018 and 2019, eagles at the refuge successfully fledged 15 young.

We are thankful to the following dedicated volunteers - Jackie Bakker, Rick Greene, Linda Benedict, and Pete Saracino, who monitored eagle nests this year and provided information on their progress to refuge staff and visitors as well as the NYSDEC.

Thursday, a visitor to the refuge spotted a golden eagle along the refuges Wildlife Drive, Ziemba added. Visitors can also see significant numbers of northern harrier, she added.

One species of bird sandhill cranes -- are still at the refuge in appreciable numbers. A volunteer spotted 70 the other day, Ziemba said.

With the frozen marshes, she said, there are lots of visible muskrat houses, which are being monitored by the bald eagles for a meal.

Its also a good time to look for mink running across Wildlife Drive or along the side of a marsh, she said.

And after a fresh snow, its a good time to come out and look for tracks.

Wildlife Drive, which runs along the main marsh at the refuge, will be closed to visitors after Nov. 30. It will reopen April 1.
