LIBERTY HILL, Texas -- The owner of High Jumpers Stable in Liberty Hill call their home "a zoo."

Leo, a triple registered stallion with four world championships, co-exists with other horses, donkeys, a young Brahma bull and a zebra, but Leo is stealing the show.

Leo is the 2011 Pinto Amateur World Jumping Champion, the 2010 Spotted Saddle Horse High Jumping Champ and the 2009 Missouri Foxtrotter World Jumping Champion. He also won more USEF jumping competitions than any other Missouri Foxtrotter or Spotted Saddle horse in history.

Lexi Ferrar has been training with the 14.3 hand horse. Ferrar said Leo continues to win even after competing against larger, 15 to 17 hand thoroughbreds.

"We went to a double a show. I rode him. He did clear a round at 3-1, and he got a blue ribbon, with all the big horses," Ferrar said.

Leo is believed to have made history with his four world championships in three breed associations.

Liberty Maritime Sues Marad Over MSP

Liberty Maritime Corp. sued the Maritime Administration, accusing the agency of awarding slots in the Maritime Security Program to companies whose ships dont qualify for MSPs U.S.-flag subsidies.

Liberty and its affiliated companies, based in Lake Success, N.Y., filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

The lawsuit claims Marad improperly transferred operating agreements for two ships in the MSP program to companies that arent U.S.-controlled.

The suit also claims Marad violated its regulations in approving an MSP replacement vessel that wasnt at least as militarily useful as the ship it replaced, and that Marad ignored Libertys requests for information explaining the agencys decision.

Liberty contends that at least one of its ships should have been received one of the MSP slots that Marad awarded during the last several years. Liberty Global Logistics, one of the lawsuits plaintiffs, has one ship in MSP.

MSP was established in 1999 to provide annual subsidies to help offset the higher costs of U.S.-flag merchant vessels that would be available for defense needs. The program provides 60 ships with annual subsidies of $3.1 million apiece. MSP was extended this month through 2025.

Most MSP contractors are U.S.-based units of overseas companies, but hire U.S. seafarers are considered by Marad to be under control of U.S. citizens.

EvCC building named Liberty Hall

Published: Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 12:01 a.m.

Liberty Hall, located on North Broadway next to the college's Fitness Center, is expected to open in April. It will be home to the college's nursing, medical assisting and phlebotomy programs and other health sciences training.

The building, which has been under construction since September 2011, also will include room for the Providence Everett Healthcare Clinic, now located across the street.

The college chose the name Liberty Hall after seeking suggestions from the campus and the community. The college's Board of Trustees unanimously approved the name at its Jan. 15 meeting.

"The word liberty has many other meanings that apply to this structure," one nominator wrote. "A healthy lifestyle, being healthy, is liberating. Obtaining an education can be liberating, opening doors to new jobs and experiences. Liberty Hall is an ideal name for such a wonderful structure."

Liberty Mountain is located approximately three miles directly south of Three Fingers and stands as a prominent peak on the far western flank of the Cascades, along with the Whitehorse, Three Fingers and Pilchuck mountains. The mountains are visible from EvCC's Everett campus.

Liberty Hall will triple the amount of laboratory space for health sciences programs and include new technology to train healthcare professionals, such as the clinical simulation lab. The new space will give EvCC room for more students in the nursing, medical assisting, phlebotomy and nursing assistant certified programs.

The architect is SRG Partnership, Inc. of Seattle and the general contractor is Olympia-based Berschauer Phillips Construction Co., Inc.

Liberty Tax Service Extends Hours for Taxpayers Beating the Rush

Beginning January 28th, Liberty Tax Service will extend operating hours to 6:00 a.m. until midnight seven days a week.

Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) January 22, 2013

Beginning January 28th, Liberty Tax Service will extend operating hours to 6:00 a.m. until midnight seven days a week. Some Liberty Tax locations will be open 24 hours, providing round-the-clock service for taxpayers. These accommodating hours will continue through February 5, 2013.

Since the IRS moved the date to begin processing individual income tax returns, the vast majority of tax filers -- more than 120 million households -- should be able to start filing tax returns starting January 30th. But that doesnt mean taxpayers have to wait until that deadline to have their returns prepared. Liberty Tax Service is already preparing tax returns and has extended their hours to accommodate those still needing to get their taxes prepared.

We are seeing many taxpayers coming in now to have their federal tax returns prepared and ready to go come January 30. They are beating the expected rush, said CEO and founder of Liberty Tax Service, John Hewitt.

Currently, offices are open 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Taxpayers can find a local Liberty Tax location by calling 866-871-1040. Liberty Tax does take appointments but they are not necessary.

About Liberty Tax Service

Founded in 1997 by CEO John T. Hewitt, Liberty Tax Service is the fastest-growing tax preparation franchise ever. Liberty Tax Service has prepared over 10 million individual income tax returns to date. Liberty Tax Service and its nationwide network of over 30,000 tax preparers are ready to offer their assistance at any time.

According to the International Franchise Associations Franchise Business Economic Outlook, the number of franchise units in the United States declined from 2009 until 2012. Currently there are approximately 27,000 fewer total franchise establishments operating in the United States than there were in 2008. (774,016 in 2008 compared to 746,828 in 2012). In spite of this downward trend, Liberty Tax Service increased its number of locations from 2,695 in 2008 to 4,183 in 2012.

West Liberty company certified landfill free

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa The 1,900 or so employees at West Liberty Foods three plants can produce up to 425 million pounds of food annually but no more than 1 percent of their garbage is taken to the landfill.

The West Liberty plant, which employs about 830 people, has been certified by an independent agency as landfill free. What little garbage the plant produces is burned in a cement plant incinerator, which swapped out nonrecyclable waste for the coal that it previously burned.

The independent certification by NSF International Strategic Registrations means that all three plants are now landfill free. The companys other facilities are in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Tremonton, Utah.

This accomplishment marks a significant milestone in the history of our company, our industry and our state, Ed Garrett, president and CEO of West Liberty Foods, said in a news release. Being landfill free is a testament to our team, and it is my hope that other companies will see our success here and undertake similar initiatives in their own businesses.

The company plans an event this spring to mark its landfill-free status.

According to The National Provisioner, a magazine for the meat industry, Garrett was inspired to make the company landfill free while attending a convention on sustainability.

By becoming committed to recycling and composting, the three plants annually keep 7.5 million pounds of trash out of the landfill enough to fill 312 residential dump trucks or equivalent to the waste produced by more than 265,000 households.

In 2012, by committing to recycling paper, plastic and other materials as well as composting, workers at the West Liberty plant diverted more than 2 million pounds of trash from the landfill.

The West Liberty team used innovation to convert soiled plastic into a combustible material that would be accepted by the disposal incinerator, said Gerald Lessard, the companys vice president and chief operating officer.

The West Liberty facility now has several stations of recycling carts with
