LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Sam Ostarello heard all the talk for the past week about how the Liberty Lady Flames rebound better than anyone in the country. Then the Purdue senior went out and showed she's pretty good at hitting the boards herself.
Ostarello scored 10 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as fourth-seeded Purdue routed Liberty 77-43 Sunday in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
''I wanted her to wear a Liberty jersey yesterday, so she just sort of proved me right,'' Liberty coach Carey Green said.
The Boilermakers (25-8) improved to 19-1 in the first round with their 16th straight victory to open the tournament. They will play No. 5 seed Louisville, a 74-49 winner over 12th-seeded Middle Tennessee, in the second round Tuesday night in the Oklahoma City Regional.
No. 13-seeded Liberty (27-7) hadn't played a Big Ten team since 2005 when the Lady Flames beat Penn State for their first NCAA tournament win. Liberty had the nation's best rebounding margin with a 17.5 edge per game, but couldn't beat Purdue on the boards in ending a 14-game winning streak.
Courtney Moses scored 21 points, going 5 of 8 from 3-point range for Purdue. KK Houser added 15 points. Ostarello came in leading the Big Ten with 9.9 rebounds per game and set the tone as Purdue had a 40-38 edge on the boards.
''I was just really focused on that assignment,'' Ostarello said. ''They're the top rebounding team in the nation by margin, and they get a lot of their points on second-chance opportunities, which is my defensive rebounds. So I just needed to go in there and every board was going to be mine. And if not, my teammates were going to clean it up.''
Devon Brown led Liberty with 21 points.
Purdue was up 33-17 at halftime and by 35 late in the game as the Boilermakers won their fifth straight. They had this game so in control that 12 Boilermakers played. Purdue's reserves outscored Liberty 28-8.
''Our defense was the key to set the tone for us to be able to get up and down and run,'' Purdue coach Sharon Versyp said. ''And for us to be able to have our bench come in and score 28 points I think was very big for us.''

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. National Park Service is relocating security operations for the Statue of Liberty over the objections of the New York Police Department, saying on Friday it will move screening to Ellis Island from Manhattan when the statue reopens on July 4.
The statue has been closed to the public since late October because of Superstorm Sandy.
The landmark has been presumed to be a potential target since the hijacked-airliner attacks of September 11, 2001. Officials closed access to the inside of the statue after the attacks and did not reopen it for almost eight years.
The nearly 4 million tourists a year who visit Liberty Island, home of the statue in New York Harbor, previously went through airport-style screening in Manhattan before boarding ferries. That screening will move to Ellis Island, which sits next to Liberty Island and is home to an immigration museum.
"The Park Service's decision to reopen the Statue of Liberty without screening in Manhattan was made against the NYPD's recommendation and leaves unresolved the vulnerability to attack on ferry passengers en route to both Liberty and Ellis Islands," NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said.
The decision to move security operations came after a lengthy review, said Linda Friar, a spokesperson for the National Park Service.
The contract for the Manhattan security tent, which was badly damaged in the hurricane, expires at the end of March. Even before Sandy hit, the city's Parks and Recreation Department had asked the Park Service to remove the tent, Friar said.
The initial security facilities on Ellis Island will be temporary and the Park Service plans to build a permanent structure that can handle extreme weather.
U.S. officials announced plans on Tuesday to reopen the Statue of Liberty to tourists on the Independence Day holiday after a $59 million project to repair damage on Liberty and Ellis islands caused by Sandy.

We reiterate our long-term Neutral recommendation on Liberty Media Corp. (LMCA). The company is gradually restructuring its business model, targeting to control the subscription-based companies.
Why Kept at Neutral?
During the last six months, Liberty Media has been restructuring its business model. In Jan 2013, the company spun off its Starz Entertainment segment as a separate entity. Starz is famous for its premium movie channels. Management stated that this will unlock the latters value by optimizing its capital structure and enabling Starz to find several alternative ways and partnerships for both content creation and distribution.
Starz is famous for its premium movie channels. At the end of 2012, total subscribers base of Starz increased 9% to 21.2 million while its sister TV channel, Encore, had 34.8 million subscribers, up 5% year over year.
In the same month, Liberty Media acquired more than 50% controlling stake of SIRIUS XM Radio Inc. (SIRI), the largest satellite radio broadcaster of the U.S. The company also raised its stake to 27% in Live Nation Entertainment Inc. (LYV), the largest concert promoter and ticketing company in the U.S.
Recently, Liberty Media has entered into an agreement with several private equity firms to acquire a 27.3% stake of Charter Communications Inc. (CHTR) for a consideration of $2.617 billion. Charter Communications is currently the eighth largest pay-TV operator in the U.S. with around 5.2 million video subscribers.
After this acquisition, Liberty Media will get a solid foothold in the U.S. pay-TV market. Liberty Media currently has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Liberty have added four former players to the coaching staff, hiring Barbara Farris and Taj McWilliams-Franklin as assistants and Teresa Weatherspoon and Tamika Whitmore as associate coaches for training camp and various times during the season.
Farris and McWilliams-Franklin both won WNBA championships with the Detroit Shock under Liberty coach Bill Laimbeer before each subsequently came to New York. Farris, who spent six seasons in Detroit and was on the Shock's 2003 WNBA championship team, played for the Liberty in 2006-07. McWilliams-Franklin won a title with Detroit in 2008, and played in New York in 2010 before spending the last two seasons in Minnesota - winning another championship in 2011.
''I wanted assistant coaches that played the game and understand what championship teams are all about,'' Laimbeer said in a release announcing the hirings. ''Taj and Barb are both familiar with my coaching style and know what it takes to win a championship.''
McWilliams-Franklin ended her 14-year playing career after helping the Lynx reach the Finals for the second straight year last season before they lost to Indiana. One of two players in league history - along with Lisa Leslie - to have 5,000 points, 3,000 rebounds and 400 blocked shots, she was an assistant at Rice during the 2012-13 season.
Weatherspoon was a four-time All-Star while playing for the Liberty during the league's first seven seasons and led New York to four WNBA Finals appearances (1997, '99, '00 and '02). Whitmore spent five seasons with the Liberty, appearing in the Finals three times.
''I reached out to Teresa and Tamika to understand the Liberty culture, it's important to respect past success,'' said Laimbeer. ''Both are hard-nose competitors, which is what I believe the culture has been and will continue to be with this team.''
Weatherspoon, inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, has been the women's coach at Louisiana Tech since 1999 and will continue in that capacity.
''This is a great opportunity for me to learn from someone like Bill Laimbeer, and I can't thank Louisiana Tech enough for allowing me to take this opportunity to grow as a coach,'' she said. ''Words cannot express what it feels like to return to a place that is so special and dear to me.''
The Liberty open training camp on May 6, and visit Connecticut in the season opener on May 25. New York's home opener is May 31 against Tulsa.

We downgrade our recommendation on Liberty Interactive Corp. (LINTA) to Underperform based on the companys weak financial results for the fourth quarter of 2012. While the top line barely met the Zacks Consensus Estimate, net income fell below the same.
Why the Downgrade?
A major concern for Liberty Interactive is that the growth rate of the companys QVC segment has slowed down significantly. This segment currently generates approximately 85% of the companys total revenue and 100% of operating profit. Therefore any fluctuations in the revenue stream of QVC will significantly affect the companys overall financials.
Furthermore, the stock price has also soared nearly 35% in the last year and is trading at the high end of its 52-week price range. With respect to several valuation metrics, the stock is trading at significantly higher multiples compared with the S&P 500. Liberty Interactive currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
Other Causes of Concern
According to a report of Internet Retailer, after Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), QVC was the second-largest e-commerce retailer of the U.S. in 2012. Despite this, the e-commerce businesses of Liberty Interactive are still reeling under losses. In the reported quarter, adjusted operating income before depreciation and amortization of this segment fell by an enormous 29%, year over year. Low advertising revenue and increased promotional activities are the primary reasons for this sorry state of affairs.
With 69% market share, QVC has become the market leader in the $8 billion TV home-shopping business. This places QVC far ahead of its rivals, HSN Inc. (HSNI) and ValueVision Media Inc. (VVTV). However, increasing deployment of personal video recorders, video-on-demand technology and IPTV network are gradually changing the distribution and viewing habits of the common people. These fundamental changes are taking a toll on the home shopping networks.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Liberty's players and coaches woke up at 4:30 a.m. Monday for their charter flight. Instead of departing the airport at 7 in the morning, plane trouble kept them grounded for several hours.
Not even that could ruin coach Dale Layer's mood.
''On 2 1/2 hours of sleep, an 8-hour plane delay - hey, it's great to be in Dayton!'' Layer said with a wide smile.
After where the Flames have been this season, what's a few more hours? It's amazing they needed aircraft to fly to the NCAA tournament.
Despite losing their first eight games and having a 10-20 record late in the season, they won their final five games including the Big South title to reserve a spot opposite North Carolina A&T in the NCAA First Four on Tuesday night at the University of Dayton Arena.
The game pits two of the most unlikely of teams in any NCAA tournament. After all, A&T (18-16) was nearing a 16th consecutive losing season just two weeks ago - before it surged to take the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament title.
Yet the journey of Liberty, an evangelical Christian school in Lynchburg, Va., surpasses just about any other stone-casting David in the tournament's history. Only one other team has ever made the NCAA field with 20 losses - Coppin State in 2008.
''The low point was probably the beginning of the year when we were 0-8,'' guard Davon Marshall said. ''Guys started to quit. It was a lot of long days of practice. Guys were down on themselves, thinking about next year.''
Injuries, defections and some difficult games conspired to send the Flames off on that abysmal start.
''When you're 0-8, a lot of people quit,'' Layer said. ''Men quit. Grown-ups quit. But our guys just kept coming back. I told them in January, 'There's going to be a story in March about somebody - there is every year - that's a Cinderella story.' And I said, 'Why couldn't it be us?'''

DAYTON -- Jeremy Underwood scored 19 points and Bruce Beckford added 16 helping North Carolina A&T end Liberty's improbable NCAA Tournament trip with a 73-72 victory in Tuesday's opening game of the First Four played at the University of Dayton Arena. The Aggies advance to face No. 1 overall seed Louisville on Thursday in the second round at 6:50 p.m. at Lexington's Rupp Arena. Davon Marshall led Liberty with 22 points, and John Caleb Sanders added 21 for the Flames (15-21) but missed a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer. Lamont Middleton added 14 points for North Carolina A&T (19-16) which recorded its first NCAA Tournament victory. The teams made a combined 11 3-pointers in the first half. Liberty trailed by seven points at halftime, but a 7-2 run to begin the second half got the Flames back into the game. Consecutive 3-pointers by Marshall cut NC A&T's lead to 52-51. Both team got off to a blistering start to the second half, combining for 20 points in the first six minutes and 13 seconds. Adrian Powell's 3-pointer completed a 9-0 run putting NC A&T ahead 61-51. But the pesky Flames wouldn't go away. Marshall's 3-pointer got them within three points with 1:32 left. Powell missed the front end of a one-one and Speaks scored to make the score 73-72. A near turnover by the Aggies resulted in a jump ball. NC A&T was awarded possession. Middleton was fouled with seven seconds left and missed his first free throw. Sanders raced down court but missed a tough layup attempt. Liberty didn't resemble a 20-loss team early in Tuesday's game. The Flames hit six of their first eight shots including a pair of 3-pointers. Speaks' layup put them ahead 14-8. But the Aggies began the game 3 of 6 from 3-point range, including one from Underwood which tied the score 16-16. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Sanders put Liberty ahead 22-20. There were six lead changes and three ties in the first half until a 10-0 run by the Aggies capped by Underwood's second 3-pointer put them ahead by eight points. NC A&T led by as many as 11 points in the first half. But consecutive 3-pointers by Marshall cut the Flames' deficit to 36-31. Beckford scored 12 points for the Aggies, who led 40-33 at halftime. Notes: Liberty, which began the season with eight straight defeats, entered Tuesday's game with 20 losses, tying for most for in NCAA Tournament history with Coppin State (16-20) in 2008. ... The Flames are the 22nd team in NCAA Tournament history to have a losing record. ... North Carolina A&T made its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance, going 0-9 in its previous appearances. ... Cy Alexander is the third first-year coach to lead the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament.
