Visa Inks Deal with mPOS Providers

To expand its payment operations, Visa Inc. (V) joined hands with three leading mobile point-of-sale (:mPOS) providers viz. iZettle, SumUp and Swiff. The deal is aimed at deploying secure mobile acceptance terminals across various locations to realize the transition of payments from paper to electronic mode. Furthermore the company approved Anywhere Commerce and Miura Systems to process Visa payments.

This alliance will allow merchants to accept Visa payments through mobile technology. As per the deal, to get their mobile hardware and software verified, iZettle, SumUp and Swiff will participate in the Visa Ready Program. The Visa Ready Program aims at merging Visa with the mPOS providers to offer merchants and consumers with a convenient yet safe payment option.

The deal will allow iZettle, SumUp and Swiff to access Visas best practices, APIs (Application Program Interfaces) and SDKs (Software Design Kits). These would include tools, direct connection to Visa, value-added services and Visa Ready symbol.

As per the agreement the mPOS providers can access reference applications and tools to facilitate the ongoing development of magnetic stripe, EMV-chip (contact and contactless), and mobile acceptance solutions. To simplify the processing of the EMV-chip transactions, they will be connected to Visa in some countries with the help of Visa POS Solutions platform or payment gateways like CyberSource and Authorize.Net.

In addition, the companies might also be exposed to Visas value-added services, like instant redemption of special offers at the point-of sale. Additionally, on approval by Visa, iZettle, SumUp and Swiff will be permitted to use the Visa Ready symbol to endorse their devices. Anywhere Commerce and Miura Systems are already permitted to use the symbol to market their Visa approved devices.

Liberty Reserve Operators Plead Not Guilty in Scheme

Two operators of Liberty Reserve SA, accused by the U.S. of helping to run the largest money-laundering scheme in history, pleaded not guilty to federal charges.

Vladimir Kats, a Liberty Reserve co-founder, and Mark Marmilev, who the U.S. said helped maintain the business infrastructure, made their first public court appearance since the U.S. announced the case on May 28. A May 24 appearance was held with the charges still under seal, U.S. District Judge Denise Cote said at todays arraignment in Manhattan.

I arraigned them previously at that time under another indictment, Cote said. I now understand that each of the defendants had a superseding indictment that named them and them alone.

When prosecutors told Cote that they intended to go to trial on the underlying indictment naming Kats and Marmilev together with five other individual defendants and Liberty Reserve, the judge said she would have to arraign the two men a second time. Both again pleaded not guilty.

This is a unique set of circumstances, a unique experience at least for me, Cote said.

Five of the seven men charged in the case were arrested on May 24, according to the office of Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. Kats, 41, and Marmilev, 33, both of Brooklyn, New York, are the only two in federal custody in New York. Two others are fugitives, the U.S. said.

Liberty Reserve, incorporated in Costa Rica in 2006, operated as essentially a black-market bank, and masked more than $6 billion of criminal proceeds, Bharara said on May 28 when he announced the case.

The company, which operated as one of the worlds most widely used digital-currency services, was structured as a criminal business venture, one designed to help criminals conduct illegal transactions, Bharara said.

The defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering, conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business and operation of an unlicensed money transmitting business. Conspiracy to commit money laundering carries a term of as long as 20 years in prison.

Kats and Marmilev consented to being held without bail, said Cote who scheduled the next conference in the case for Aug. 9. Lawyers for both men declined to comment after court.

Liberty 75, Fever 68

UpdatedJun 5, 2013 3:45 PM ET

Bill Laimbeer is aging quickly with his new team.

Essence Carson scored 21 points and Alex Montgomery added six of her 13 points in overtime as the New York Liberty rallied past Indiana 75-68 Wednesday in a matinee game. It marked the second straight overtime victory for New York.

''I'm almost completely gray now after the last two games,'' Liberty coach Laimbeer said, joking. ''You don't want to put yourselves in those positions at home, on the road OK. At home we want to take care of business before overtime. We're learning, learning about confidence in ourselves. So I guess if you're going to go overtime and win, that's a positive.''

New York (2-1) rallied from an 11-point deficit in the third quarter, surviving a nearly 7 1/2-minute drought without a basket between the third and fourth periods, to force overtime.

''We kept being aggressive,'' Carson said. ''Even though we weren't getting baskets, they weren't scoring either.''

Indiana took a 68-67 lead in overtime on Briann January's jumper with 2:35 left. Montgomery made with consecutive baskets, including one on a putback that gave New York a 71-68 lead with 1:04 left.

After the Fever had a turnover with 14.7 seconds left, they were forced to foul.

''I thanked Alex in the locker room,'' Laimbeer said. ''By far the best I've seen her play. Her energy level was just what we needed. She played to her strengths and was a great boost for us.''

Liberty University Continues to Champion Local Health Initiatives

Lynchburg, VA (PRWEB) June 05, 2013

As Liberty University continues to establish itself as a health and wellness leader in the community, it is working with local leaders and other area institutions to find more ways to encourage healthy living.

For the second year, Liberty is encouraging students, faculty, and staff to take an active role in Live Healthy Lynchburg, a campaign sponsored by the city of Lynchburg that is committed to promoting overall wellness, including diet, exercise, education, and prayer.

Liberty has volunteered to host the next Live Healthy Lynchburg meeting on its campus June 14, welcoming other colleges from around the area to share ideas and compare programs and resources to promote health and wellness in the community. Guests will tour Libertys extensive recreational facilities as well as learn about and sample several healthy dining options offered at Reber-Thomas Dining Hall.

What this partnership between Liberty, Lynchburg, and other local institutions hopes to achieve is a more health-conscious culture in the community similar to what we are seeing take place at Liberty, said Lee Beaumont, Libertys vice president for Auxiliary Services. We hope this will lead to a better quality of life in the community as people become better educated and motivated to live healthier lives.

Many members of Libertys administration have led the way, including Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr., who has lost 55 pounds over the past year thanks to a complete lifestyle change that includes eating healthier and regular exercise. He and his wife, Becki, work out together two days a week. They were recently featured in a WSET television interview.

Live Healthy Lynchburg is currently promoting its Strive for Five Challenge, which encourages people to work out for at least 30 minutes five days a week. Liberty is currently the leading organization with the most collective hours logged.

Last fall, Liberty encouraged its staff to participate in Live Healthy Lynchburgs 100 Mile Challenge and Virginia 10-Miler and 4-Miler races. As further incentive, Liberty paid the entry fee for staff members who signed up. Liberty finished third out of more than 90 companies for most miles logged in the challenge. Mark Hopely, a Liberty staff member, tallied more miles than any other individual in the challenge. Liberty was also dominant in the corporate challenge, finishing first in four of the six categories in the 10- and 4-Miler events.

Liberty will encourage employees to participate in 100 Mile Challenge and races again this year and will pay entry fees.

Across campus, Liberty has continued to show its commitment to a holistic approach to wellness providing opportunities to grow in body, mind, and spirit.
