Liberty Global Denies Report of Talks Over Intel’s TV Project

European cable operator Liberty Global (LBTYA) denied a report that its in talks to buy Intels (INTC) online television venture.

Bloomberg News reported Tuesday that negations between the chip maker and Liberty Global are in an early stage and could still fall apart.

The London-based company, led by media mogul John Malone, would use Intels service outside the U.S. Liberty Global owns U.K. cable provider Virgin Media, as well as systems in Germany, Belgium and other European countries.

Liberty Global denied it has expressed interest in Intels video service, saying the report is without foundation. Intel declined to comment.

Intel has been shopping the pay-TV service amid a struggle to obtain programming. Several recent reports pegged Verizon Communications (VZ) as another company interested in taking on the project, called OnCue.

The subscription service would stream live and on-demand programming over the Internet. OnCue was expected to launch later this year, competing with streaming video services from Apple (AAPL), Amazon.com (AMZN) and Google (GOOG).

But agreeing to content deals has become an obstacle. Despite talking to several big media companies, Intel has yet to announce any moves to add programming to the service.

Shares of Liberty Global were down 2% at $77.83 Tuesday afternoon. Intel rallied nearly 1% to $24.39.

Liberty took its opening drive 65 yards in seven plays for the games first score. Josh Woodrum, who went 13-of-17 on the night, threw a 20-yard pass to Darrin Peterson to cap the drive and give the Flames the early 7-0 lead with 11:25 left on the clock

The Flames forced PC to punt away on its opening drive but Liberty fumbled the return, giving the Blue Hose the ball at the LU 41-yard line. After driving to the Liberty 10-yard line in seven plays, PC fumbled the ball, giving the Flames the ball back.

Liberty capitalized, driving the field in 18 plays to score its second touchdown of the game. After reaching the one-yard line, Desmond Rice took the ball the short distance, giving the Flames the 14-0 lead with 11:11 to go in the second.

From Liberty athletics:

LYNCHBURG, Va. The Flames scored four of their five touchdowns on the ground and rushed for 231 yards en route to a 35-14 victory over Presbyterian College, Saturday afternoon, at Williams Stadium.

The victory, Liberty's third in a row, ups the Flames' overall record to 6-4 and 3-1 in Big South play. The loss, PC's second-consecutive setback, drops the Blue Hose to 3-6 on the season and 1-2 in league play.

The win also keeps the Flames in the hunt for their sixth Big South title in the last seven years. Earlier in the day, No. 18/16 Charleston Southern upended No. 5/3 Coastal Carolina, 31-26, at home, placing the Buccaneers in first place in the Big South at 3-0.

Liberty travels to Charleston, S.C., to face the Buccaneers (10-1) the last week of the regular season on Nov. 23.

The Flames scored on their opening drive of the game thanks to a pair of deep passes downfield by Josh Woodrum.

Following 20-yard completion to tight end Brandon Apon over the middle of the field, Woodrum found Darrin Peterson open in the far corner of the end zone. The wide receiver's team-leading sixth touchdown reception of the year, which went for 20 yards, gave Liberty the early 7-0 lead with 11:25 left in the first quarter.

The rest of the quarter saw the two teams turnover the ball over, each one time. Following PC's first drive, the Blue Hose punted to Kevin Fogg. The senior managed to return the kick six yards before Cannon Jordan forced the ball loose and Kenyon Brown jumped on the football.

The Blue Hose managed to drive into the Flames' red zone where they handed the ball off to Blake Roberts. The redshirt freshman got to the outside, but Jacob Hagen was able to jar the ball free from the running back's hands and Scott Hyland recovered the miscue.
