Liberty Power Helps USHCC Go Green

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Liberty Power is donating renewable energy certificates to match the entire estimated electricity usage at the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's annual convention in Salt Lake City this week. It's the second year in a row the retail energy supply company will donate RECs as part of its sponsorship of the event.

The RECs from U.S. wind energy facilities will avoid putting about 760,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from fossil-fueled generation facilities into the environment, according to a news release.

David Hernandez, co-founder and CEO of Liberty Power, said the company is "delighted the USHCC supports our ongoing commitment to sustainability."

Mr. Hernandez was the chamber's 2013 Businessman of the Year.

"Liberty Power is dedicated to their customers and their community, and has demonstrated that a company can, in fact, do smart business and advance the common good at the same time," said Javier Palomarez, USHCC president and CEO.

HispanicBusiness.com on its HispanicBusiness 100 index ranked it as the largest Hispanic-owned energy company in the U.S. in 2013. The company's revenues grew 11.9 percent in the year.

USHCC serves as the umbrella organization for more than 200 local Hispanic chambers and business associations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The USHCC national convention runs through Tuesday at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City.

STRUTHERS

Five days ago, the Liberty High School volleyball team was swept by visiting Struthers.

After dropping the first game of the return match Monday at the Struthers Fieldhouse, the Leopards decided to do a little sweeping of their own.

Liberty (8-8) stopped the Struthers by scores of 20-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 26-24. It was the Leopards third win in four outings.

We had nearly one-third of our points tonight on tips and that was critical, liberty coach John Tokash said. After falling short in the first game, we reversed our lineup, and that worked out really well.

Struthers is 4-10.

Struthers is definitely better than what their record shows, said Tokash, whose team plays Girard today. [This] gives us some much needed momentum.
