I was thinking about a wee incident by some standing stones this summer when it occurred to me that while religion- or at least scholars sponsored by it- preserved much of what we know of the classical world, actions by evangelists from that same religion led to one of the most brutal and sustained invasions these islands have ever suffered. In time the religious infiltrated the invaders leadership, converting the powerful and giving us our modern view of those poor, oppressed Christians. But they brought the invasion down on their own heads: their actions during and after the event did nothing to alleviate the suffering of the people. They had to figure their own way out of the mess created by those whose calling is to pester the gods... This is my new weekly series of overly edited Minecraft videos of random contraptions I build. I will attempt to make a video each weekend. This is a piston display that I integrated into a house/tower. It rotates a 11x12 picture made of wool around all the time using smart pistons. Sadly it doesn #39;t like when you record in 30FPS, it becomes very flickery and buggy. GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (Reuters) - Embattled Cayman Islands Premier McKeeva Bush faced growing pressure to resign on Friday after his arrest on suspicion of theft and corruption in the offshore Caribbean financial center.

A defiant Bush, who has blamed his troubles on the governor of the British overseas territory, has said since his detention that he did nothing wrong and has no plans to step down.

But opposition leader Alden McLaughlin, who took the first steps toward getting the premier removed by parliament on Friday, has publicly called on members of Bush's own cabinet to oust him and appoint someone from their own ranks to serve as head of the government.

"Mr. Bush is plainly treating the matter of his arrest with utter impunity and is determined to return to business as usual," McLaughlin said in a televised address on Thursday night.

"It is untenable that for the foreseeable future, business people will have to explain to any foreign investor or person doing business in Cayman how it is that the premier of the Cayman Islands continues in office after having been arrested and bailed on suspicion of having committed serious offenses," he said.

Bush, 57, was arrested on Tuesday by members of the Financial Crime Unit of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service. He was released on police bail until February, pending the possible filing of criminal charges against him.

Authorities have declined to give specific details of the probe targeting Bush, saying only that it included allegations of theft and misuse of a government credit card.

Bush, who has been the target of active corruption probes for more than a year, told reporters in Jamaica on Thursday that he was the victim of a "political witch hunt" mounted by British-appointed Governor Duncan Taylor and other foes.

"This has damaged me politically and damaged the Cayman Islands," Bush said.

MR. SPEAKER: The Member for St. John #39;s North. MR. KIRBY: Mr. Speaker, I rise today to salute a resident of St. John #39;s North who was recently recognized with a Seniors of Distinction Award. Ted Blanchard has a long record of service to the people of this Province, including serving one term, in the 1980s, as the MHA for Bay of Islands. Born in Gillams, he worked as a teenager in the Bowater mill in Corner Brook for a short time before training as a teacher. Ted and his family settled in St. John #39;s, where he spent most of his career working for the provincial government. A labour mediator, Ted is known in other circles for his contributions to music in the Province -- with Don Randell, he released the first-ever commercial recording of Newfoundland music in 1957. They received the St. John #39;s Folk Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Ted also spent years with the Royal St. John #39;s Regatta as a rower, coach, coxswain, and committee member. Since his retirement, he has been able to focus on his hobbies and passions, and our community is much better and much richer for it, Mr. Speaker.
