In the time of plague, a devil is testing America: Letter – The News Leader

DAVID COLTON, Waynesboro Published 1:12 a.m. ET Aug. 7, 2020

Imagine a great nation that has lost its moral direction. God in his wisdom decides to test the people of this nation to see if they are worthy of his love. He brings forth a plague which they can survive if they follow just one of his commandments The Golden Rule: All things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you even so to them. (Matthew 7:12)

In other words, people can be selfish and think only of themselves, but if they do, they will spread the plague to others (i.e. not follow CDC guidelines for wearing a mask and social distancing) or they can do the right thing to reduce spread of the plague.

However, Satan, seeing an opportunity to disrupt Gods plan, decides to complicate things. Being a sly, cunning, devious, manipulative, lying conman, Satan selects a mortal with similar attributes to convince the people not to follow The Golden Rule. This person is the nations leader and he uses his position to sway the people and lies to them about how bad the plague really is.

Satan, of course, is overjoyed. Not only are many of the nations people ignoring Gods commandment, in rebuffing Gods love and guidance, they are rejecting their own salvation.

As a consequence of their actions, the nation suffers. The nation has the largest number of cases of the plague and the highest mortality rate in the world. Many people die and many people lose their jobs and their homes.

The great nation is no longer great in the eyes of the world. Satan delights in his triumph and the nations leader plays golf. And the nations leader continues to do Satans work by dividing the people of the country, one against another, as well asdividing his followers from their love of God.

Fortunately, the story is not over. God gave the people the ability to choose right from wrong. They can continue to follow Satans servant and believe his lies, or they can listen to the prophets (medical experts) and do things for the benefit of their fellow man.

The Importance Of Being Overly Kind During COVID-19 – Forbes

Closeup shot of a group of businesspeople sitting together at a table and holding hands

Being kind is never a bad idea. But as we and our companies weather COVID-19, we have to practice radical kindness.

Everyone has been affected by the pandemic in one way or another. Neither my team nor the entrepreneurs I know have struggled with anxiety like this. My kids are worried about returning to school.

Truly, my thoughts go out to them. Although I cant make the virus go away, I can do the next best thing: double down on kindness.

As a business leader and as a human being, I believe now is the time to be overly kind. Heres why:

In the last two months, Ive seen more vulnerability than I have in my entire life. Ive seen entrepreneurs break down, employees lose their livelihoods, and friends face serious illness.

Now isnt the time to stand on the sidelines. If youre in a position to do so, lend a hand not because you expect something in return, but because you know people need it.

Even simple gestures go a long way. Point people whove been laid off to new opportunities. Shoot a quick text to that aunt or uncle whos sick. Offer to partner with that small business down the street thats struggling.

I do a lot of keynote speaking. When events were cancelled, most hosts did the right thing. A few, however, left me out in the cold.

In one case, a company didnt even tell me the event was cancelled. They then demanded that I return initial fees after Id spent my own time and money preparing for the speech. They refused to even speak with me on the phone to discuss options.

Contrast that with how a staffing company that serves the real estate sector, JWilliams Staffing Solutions, treated me. The owner, JoAnne, called me weeks prior to the event. She expressed empathy for speakers in my situation, and together, we looked for ways to make up for the missed event.

Each of those experiences left a lasting impression on me. You can probably guess which one lost my respect and which one gained it.

You should never stop working to improve yourself. Expressing kindness, especially when its difficult, is a great strategy.

In uncertain times like these, its tempting to put ourselves first. But if we stretch our limits as human beings, we learn just how intrinsically rewarding it can be to do the right thing. Think of the COVID-19 pandemic as a test: Challenge yourself to practice one more act of kindness each day. Doing so helps you approach life with a more positive outlook, which not only makes you happier but also shows others the power of helpfulness.

The goal of being kind should never be solely to make a sale. With that said, nothing reflects better on your business than kindness. People are more likely to shop and partner with a brand that they believe cares for them personally.

Think, too, about the effect on your employees. People would much prefer to work in a positive, uplifting workplace than a demeaning one. Going the extra mile to be overly kind attracts and retains top talent for your business. Dont underestimate the cultural value of kindness.

While COVID-19 has affected my company, I have been much more fortunate than some. It might not always be that way. The future guarantees nothing, and I may not be as fortunate the next time around.

Practice the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do to you. Being good to others has a way of coming back around.

Again, Im not suggesting you help others out of selfish reasons. Rather, doing whats right in the moment will put you top of mind. When the day comes that youre the one in need, wouldnt you want others to extend that same helping hand?

The most important thing you can do in this life is to be kind. Never has that been clearer than during the COVID-19 crisis. The fact that kindness is also good for business is just the cherry on top.

JCPenney is selling off its historic 118-year-old location in Kemmerer, Wyoming, marking the end of an era for the department store brand.

The first-ever JCPenney store was known as "The Golden Rule" and named by founder James Cash Penney as an ode to the popular idiom "treat others as you would like to be treated." The store was later rebranded to JCPenney in 1914, the same year the retailer erected its headquarters in New York City.

The 8,000 square-foot flagship Kemmerer location located approximately 100 miles northwest of Salt Lake City is known as the "mother store" for the chain, according to the property highlights pamphlet available online. The town is home to just under 4,000 residents and is where Penney first got his start in 1902.

Julie Chen Moonves On The Season Premiere Of Big Brother: All Stars: Its Fun But Yet Its Very Real – CBS Boston

Big Brother: All Starscomes to CBS this Wednesday, August 5th at 9/8c. The 22nd season of the worldwide phenomenon comes with a special twist as all 16 houseguests will be returning players unveiled during the premiere. Julie Chen Moonves returns as host for this unique season that saw the houseguests spend weeks in isolation before entering the house due to the coronavirus.

CBS Matt Weiss spoke to Chen Moonves ahead of the shows premiere to discuss the new season, the new house and answer the question, are you smarter than a fifth grader?

MW: First of all, how have you been holding up the last couple monthswith quarantine.Howhaveyou been doing?

JCM:Well, how much timedoyou have, Matt? [Laughs] In a nutshell, home schooling and my 87-year-old mom, who was on March 1st going to test out living with us for about three weeks because of my father, who was 89, unexpectedly passed away.

So, its like, mom do you really want to live alone? That testturned into five months. She just left like three weeks ago to go back to her retirementcommunity, where God bless, shes enjoying it. But it was a little bit of craziness we were all learning how to handle that.

With the home schooling I went from being a Tiger Mom tobeinglike, hey Troy, do you want to watchTiger King with me and dad for a midnight showing? Luckily,he wasnt interested. That being said,I did hear him singingthe CarolBaskin song one day and I said things have got to change.Im building back structure.Im going back to work.Im putting a structure in. Were slowly pulling it together. [Laughs]

MW: A learning experience for everyone.

JCM:Hes a rising 5th grader and hesstarting school in a couple of weeks. I realized how not tech savvy I am. Doyou remember that show are you smarter thana 5thgrader?Turns out Im not even assmart as afourth grader.Im going back to Big Brother where I know how to do what I do.

MW: [Laughs] Speaking ofBig Brother, this will be a season like never before. What can fans expect from this all-new season?

JCM:Yougottathink about it.Big Brother, weve been on for 20 years, this is our 22nd season.Anyone who doesnt know the concept of the show, you basically take six strangers lock them into a house and they have to coexist for up to three months. Each week voting out one of their own, while theyre all competing with one another, only one person takeshomethe half $1,000,000 grand prize. We were the originalquarantine!

Whats different this season are two main things because of the pandemic, we brought in former Big Brother houseguests, anAll-Star cast. Were bringing back eight of the most memorable women and eight of the mostmemorablemen for various reasons. We have past winners, past people who almost got the half $1,000,000 but didnt, people who came in 11th place but due to circumstancesgot bouncedtoo early; they all have something to prove.

We had to bring in these 16 houseguests to our area of Los Angeles, whether we had to fly them across the country or some alreadylivein the area, then put them up in homes by themselves for weeks. During that time we weretesting them on a regular basis to make sure they donthave the virus so that we canput them into the Big Brother house.Once we threw all these 16 past houseguests in that Big Brother house might bethe safesthousein the world! Once they go in they dont have any contact with the outside world.

There are no camera operators inside the house. All the camera operators are on the other side of the glass or were using cameras that are locked down in various corners and walls. The good news is we were kind of designed to do a show duringquarantine.Itsgoing to look exactly like how you saw it last year. Its not going to look like aZoom showbecause its not.

MW: A bunch of people locked up in a house for three months, the show is more relatable than ever!

JCM: Exactly, we were ahead of our time, weve been doing this for 20 years, we are the original quarantine. We joke but when it comes to this season and taking precautions were not taking anything lightly.

MW: Great timing as well to be able to provide some normalcy for fans of the show to see something new yet familiar.

JCM:I think that its going to be a nice break. We could all use a little bit of a break from all the drama but not stick our heads in the sand to whats happening out in the world.Thesehouseguests,Im sure, theyre going to talk about what thequarantinehas done to their families.Alot of these returning houseguests went in single when they first did it and now some of them are married, some have children, theres a lot to offer there.

I think its going to be perfect break we kindofneed, without ignoring the reality of the world were living in right now.Heres the hope, the hope is whether youre a returning Big Brother fan or youre new to it youre going towatchthis andlearn, cant we all get along? We all want the same thing. We all want to be safe.We all want a vaccine. We all want to be working. What can we do?What smallthing canwe eachdo, small or big to help get to that common goal we all want.We all want to be heard. We all want to be respected. How about we all start by practicing the Golden Rule; treat others the way you want to be treated.

MW: Absolutely! I think the last few months have really shown people whats important and allowed folks to examine themselves.

JCM:Its pretty simple. I have to tell you, we should all take this time just to lean intoGod. Im telling you whatever behavior have, you have to think for a second, now is God looking down at me and being like yeah thats whoI created you to be,thats how you should behave. I learn my lessons all the time like when I lose my patience with my 10-year-old, I have to remind myself patience is a virtue; this is not who God created me to be. I just need to [deep breath].

MW:I couldnt agree more. Circling back to Big Brother and some changes that needed to be made for this season. Were there any major changes you had to make as the host?

JCM: Weve had to do a lot of things.Everyone has had to take tests before returning to work and we all have to be masked but when you see me on TVbroadcasting,I wont be wearing a mask. Each week when someone getsevicted, they wont be shaking my hand wewill be keeping a distance.

If you were to pull the cameras wide and see you know everyone who works on the show, theyre all wearing a mask.No live audience this season for obvious reasons, but if youre a long-time fan of the show, we didnt have a live audience from season two to I think like season seven or eight.

I really feel safe about going back to work and happy about it.Weve taken the precautions and yet its going to be not only a safe environment but a fun environment for people at home to watch.

MW: And when people are watching in their homes theyll be looking at a brand new Big Brother house, the reveal came out online earlier this week and it looks incredible. Where does this house stack up to you all-time in Big Brother history?

JCM: Well this is the first year Ive never gone into the house.Usually I bring cameras into a house tour, but for obvious reasons I did not.I got a tour throughZoom and I was blown away. This house celebrates some of the most memorable moments and former houseguests in the history of the show. Twenty years and 21seasons, plus the two celebrity runs and one version that was just online.Whether youre new to the show or youveonlywatchedthe last few seasons,or youve been there since season one, youre going to see the history.

I told Scott Storey, who has been doing the house and the show maybe since season two or maybe sinceseason1, I said Scott you have to submit for an Emmy this year, it looks so good.I never wantitto change again. Lets make it amuseum, letsadd more memorable houseguests.

MW: And now last question before I let you go, what message do you have for fans heading into season 22 on Wednesday night?

JCM: So this is what I always think about Big Brother, its fun butyetits very real life. When youre watching it, youreprobably not going to love everyone that you see in the house.Hopefully you can find outthis one facet of that person, whereyou have compassion for thatperson,or you relate to that person.Lets all watched this summer and have a good time, but lets also learn, lets not be so quick to judge one another and lets try and give everyone in our world,in our life, and these houseguests,if youre watching them, the benefit of the doubt.

I think its important for everyone to remember if you communicate in a respectful gentle manner you will get far in the Big Brother house and in life.Treat others with respect. If you dont agree with someone we should respectfully and peacefully agree to disagree. Lets bring forward the better sides of all of us.I gotwartsandflaws;we all do.Letsallput our best foot forward.

MW: Very poignant advice for everyone out there. Thank you so much for the time today Julie, always a pleasure speaking with you. All the best with the new season and with the home schooling!

JCM: God bless you, stay safe. Thank you Matt!

Tune in the all-new premiere of Big Brother: All Stars Wednesday night at 9/8c, only on CBS and streaming on CBS All Access. Check your local listings for more information.

How to spot fake emails and texts from the real ones – Yorkshire Post

LifestyleIf even Barack Obama and the heads of Apple, Microsoft and Amazon can fall victim to hackers, what hope is there for the rest of us?

Saturday, 8th August 2020, 11:45 am

The recent revelation that all of them, amongst other prominent Twitter users, had been the victims of a fraud concerning the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, exposed just how hard it is to spot genuine messages from take ones.

But for every one of these attention-grabbing cases, there are thousands that fly under the publicity radar. The worrying thing is that the hoaxers are getting more and more convincing.

It used to be easy to spot a scam: emails that purported to be from a financially embarrassed Nigerian prince, or addressed to Dear esteemed customer had obviously come from people up to no good.

But the one that arrived on my phone the other week took longer to decipher. The mobile network O2 had been unable to process my bill, it said, and that if I were to avoid fees for late payment I should update my payment details. The link it gave appeared to contain an genuine O2 address but of course it was nothing of the sort. It led to a clone of O2s site which had been put there to harvest the login details of anyone who cared to type them in.

No-one knows how many other people received the same message, but the consumer group Which? said it knew of many, and that customers of the GiffGaff network had been targeted in exactly the same way, a few months earlier.

Action Fraud, the national reporting centre for cyber crime, says another scam in current circulation advises recipients that they are eligible for a free TV licence as a result of the Covid pandemic. Those who fall for it are taken to a site that looks exactly like the real TV Licensing site.

This business of cloning websites is not confined to collecting sign-in details. Action Fraud also says that more than 16m has been spent on copies of shopping sites which collect the money but dont deliver the goods. The sites most at risk of cloning are those aimed at 18-26 year-olds, with victims in Leeds, Sheffield and elsewhere. Amazon is among those also targeted in a practice known in the industry as phishing.

So how can you reasonably tell which of your messages are genuine? The golden rule is that anything which arrives in your inbox, either by email or text, which invites you to click a link to an official site, is almost certainly bogus. No respectable company, least of all one that collects money from you, will ever send you such a message, for exactly the same reason that hackers will.

But while never clicking a link in an email or text message is good advice, its not always possible to heed. Thats why you should look for the padlock symbol next to the address bar on any website that prompts you for your account details. Its present on phone browsers as well as on PCs and it tells you that the owner of the site has registered it with an electronic key which proves ownership of it. If you dont see the padlock, dont use the site.

If youre worried that you have inadvertently entered your details on a bogus site, log into the real one and change your password immediately. And check your statements for any transactions you dont recognise.

You can also try installing an app like Call Blocker UK on your phone. This doesnt intercept problem texts but it does try to shield you from malicious phone calls, using its own database of suspicious numbers, and optionally sends you updates about current scams. We have yet to hear if Mr Obama has signed up to receive them.

Shelter Island Reporter Letters to the Editor – Shelter Island Reporter – Shelter Island Reporter

Filling a need

To the Editor:

COVID-19 has taken a toll on many lives and businesses globally. The negative effects of the virus have also been felt across our country, New York State and Suffolk County. The Town of Shelter Island is dealing with the same issues faced by many, with an additional burden the need for continuous ferry service between the island and the twin forks to support Islanders and Island businesses.

Due to restrictions on travel, the shuttering of certain Shelter Island businesses, and the cancellation of many activities that draw travelers to Shelter Island (e.g., fireworks, 10K), traffic volume has been drastically diminished. The commercial traffic and cash fares from day trippers that subsidize our resident and commuter discount tickets have been negatively impacted. Unfortunately, running the ferry is a high fixed cost business and our cash flow is seasonal. Our expenses cannot fall at the same pace as our revenues.

The Town Board and North and South Ferries have been working together since the onset of the pandemic to ensure ongoing and consistent service to the island. That partnership extended to working with local lawmakers such as Legislators Fleming and Krupski, Assemblyman Thiele, and Congressman Zeldin all of whom have been supportive and empathetic to the unique situation Shelter Island faces vis a vis dependency on ferry service.

Bill S. 4150, the CERTS (Coronavirus Economic Relief for Transportation Services) Act, is before the Senate now. The town, together with the ferry companies, has reached out to Senators Schumer and Gillibrand. This bipartisan legislation would provide $10 billion in emergency economic relief funding, in the form of grants and other economic assistance to U.S. flag passenger vessel operators, and other U.S. transportation service providers that are deemed essential. North Ferrys preference is to take advantage of these Federal funds as other publicly-owned transportation companies would be eligible to as opposed to negatively impacting our service schedule and/ or our rate structure in the event of a prolonged decline in traffic.

The golden rule

To the Editor:

I really liked the cartoon in the July 30 issue. While I got the humor of the family disagreement, the real message was exactly what we all need to hear: lets work together for the common good, respect, decency and the golden rule. And that resonated with me after reading the ongoing series of responses to the Marie Eiffel Go FundMe page debacle.

I do not think anyone has it in for this particular merchant, but how wonderful would it have been if she had seen this outpouring of support from her summer community as worth sharing with all the hard-working businesses here on Shelter Island, many of whom serve us year-round, as well as those who come in the summer, or seek refuge from the pandemic?

Sharing that fund with the struggling others who make up our community would have captured exactly the message of this cartoon.

Well, we all can be sure to give as much support to these businesses as we can to show our appreciation and live up to this spirit of unity.

WENDY C. TURGEON, Shelter Island

A vote for Nancy

To the Editor:

In November, voters will be presented with a clear choice between Nancy Goroff, a trail-blazing scientist who would put the interests of the Island and the 1st Congressional District first, and Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley), who has placed loyalty to President Trump first.

Nancy, the former chair of the chemistry department at Stony Brook, believes that science-based solutions are key to addressing the range of critical problems we face. The most urgent problem, COVID-19, has claimed the lives of esteemed members of our community and had a terrible impact on so many, especially business owners, workers, seniors, school-age children and their parents. Other critical problems include the quality of our drinking water and health of our bays, as well as the impact of sea level rise and other undeniable effects of global warming.

A first-time candidate who would be the first female Ph.D. In Congress, Nancy has always been committed to finding solutions based on facts, not politics. She won a hotly contested primary, despite not having been endorsed by most of the Democratic Party establishment here or elsewhere.

By contrast, Mr. Zeldin has stood with President Trump as he has been fatally slow to accept mainstream science concerning the seriousness of COVID-19, and how to slow its spread and treat its victims. He has ignored the environmental challenges facing us here and well beyond.

Shockingly, Mr. Zeldin stood by when Republicans crafted a tax bill with a cap on the deductibility of state and local taxes, which hurts many and helps no one in our district, and did not oppose it until his opposition was meaningless. President Trump then signed it into law, which remains in effect, to the delight of lower tax states generally and those in the highest tax bracket everywhere in particular.

Freedom of speech is key to democracy. We should all be able to voice our opinions and beliefs without malice, no matter how varied. Differences need not be derisive.

Hearing anothers viewpoint may be educational and enlightening. Especially when an opinion is reasoned, informed and backed with facts.

Agree to disagree without acrimony. Diversity enriches life.

Peace,

Illegal behavior

To the Editor:

For the safety and well being of Silver Beach residents at Bootleggers Alley, Crab Creek landing, and Peconic Ave. landings, a residents-only parking policy must be implemented immediately.

The behavior of the never-ending large groups of anonymous day transients cannot be supervised by limited police patrols, particularly remote areas that require foot patrols. Bootleggers Alley, Peconic Ave. and Crab Creek Road access points require too much time to patrol properly.

The patrols have failed to stop all the illegal behavior thus far. New groups of non-residents arrive every day that repeat the same offenses and add new unforeseen crimes to the list. The anonymous aspect of these large groups facilitates an accountability problem. No one is held accountable for the bad behavior of the group. Everyone in the group looks the other way, no one sees the trespassing, defecation, littering, public drinking of alcohol, drug use and broken beer bottles in the sand.

DWI comes with the drinking and drug use; this puts everyone at risk. The pedestrian and bike traffic by resident families is at an all time high in Silver Beach and throughout the Island. Thats whats happening and thats what will continue to happen on the remote beaches. It will not happen on the public beaches where theres accountability.

These folks come from an area of high COVID-19 infection.

The town policy must be to stop large groups of anonymous non-resident day transients from using our town landings and beach access points. Safety of residential neighborhoods must be the priority.

Louis Beach, Ward Beach and Shell Beach can be used by these large groups of non-residents. All non-residents that want to use these public beaches must register and pay for a non-resident day pass.

The town landings and beach access point are for residents only and their guests. Folks who are staying here on vacation can get a pass at town hall that will give them access to the public beaches.

Anyone who needs to sleep in their car overnight can do so at the police parking lot. All roads should have a no overnight sleeping restriction.

All potties must be removed from town landings and beach access points.

Julie Chen Moonves On The Season Premiere Of Big Brother: All Stars: Its Fun But Yet Its Very Real – CBS New York

Heat wave: National Health Authority reminds people to drink enough water and look after the elderly – RTL Today

With temperatures expected to rise over 30 degrees during the weekend, the National Health Authority is reminding people of its action plan against the heat wave.

One golden rule which applies to everyone is to drink a lot of water, at least 1.5 litres per day.

However, heat is not the only thing to look out for while being out in the sun. The risk for skin cancer also rises, which is why people should either avoid sun light altogether or take precautionary measures. The National Health Authority also recommends keeping windows closed during the day and instead let some air in once sun light becomes less intense in the evening. Showers are a great way to cool down, while sport or physical activity in general should be avoided during the warmest hours of the day.

People with elderly relatives or neighbours should check on them regularly and make sure that they have enough water and are drinking enough of it.

In the case of a red alert, specific aids will be made available and people on the Red Cross' lists for heat wave events will receive help at their own homes. Those with any further questions about heat waves can reach out to the National Health Inspectorate by calling(+352) 247-85653.

Additional information is also available on the Health Directorate's website(in French) as well as in the brochureAttention canicule Prenez soin de votre sant ! /Hitzewelle - Achten Sie auf Ihre Gesundheit !.

Meteolux has issued an orange alert for Saturday. However, the warning also applies for Friday.

I Galloped Racehorses for a Living, But I Freeze in the Hunter Ring. Here’s How I’m Dealing With It. – Noelle Floyd

Ive been a horse lover since I can remember. When I was young, I would walk four miles round trip to "pet" the horses that lived down the road from my father's house. Eventually, my father took me to a stable to ride, and I can still remember the feeling of cantering Blackie boldly down a narrow dirt path, the wind in my hair, not a care in the world.

By the age of fourteen, my mother had finally given in to my horse craziness, and I bought my first horse Shotzy, an old gelding with Navicular disease (of course I didn't know that when I bought him because when you only pay $250 for a horse you obviously don't get them vetted!). I couldnt afford a saddle, so I rode bareback for a year before I scrounged up the $95 to buy an english saddle that was as old as the hills. In those days, it was just Shotzy and I on the trails, having fun. No lessons, no shows, no agenda. Just pure joy.

Eventually, I started working at a local Thoroughbred racetrack as a groom. My secret hope was to eventually get to gallop, but I also knew that there was much more to galloping a racehorse than what I had done. So, I kept on with the barn chores for a while, enjoying the job for what it was. Then one day, I got my lucky break. A friend who was married to a trainer from Sagamore Farm, a training facility for young Thoroughbreds, called and offered me a position exercising horses. I was surprised because I had never ridden a Thoroughbred before, at least not one in training, but she explained that her husband had seen me on a horse and was willing to train me. The pay was not enough to pay my bills, but I was eager to accept anyway, so I moved into the girls living quarters at the track with four other roomates. I worked under trainer Buddy Troyer and Hall of Fame trainer Henry Clark. I learned to break the young horses and gallop the older ones.

I was living my dream.

About four months into the job, I remember a particularly rainy day. Things were soggy, so we were using the inside 1/4 mile track. Mr. Clark put me on an older horse, one that had raced many times, and I had not yet learned the golden rule of racehorses: Do not pull back to try and get them to stop.

That day, I learned. The horse ran off with me four times around (1 mile) in this narrow track, at a wide open gallop, and to this day it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me on a horse in my lifetime. For weeks after that, I feared getting on the older horses (the young horses hadnt run before, so they were less likely to run off).

My First Experience With Fear in the Saddle

I was young and resilient and brushed it off. I didnt have a mental skills practice back then, I just kept riding and putting as much time and practice in as I could. I was offered jobs at tracks all around the country. I became the most experienced rider in the barn, so I was put on the most challenging horses. This did make my job more difficult and as I got older I began tothink more about my wellbeing than I ever had before.

These horses are kept in a stall 23 hours a day, then exercised or raced, and are back in the stall. As athletes, they are fed high protein feed and supplements. Most of them are under four as their career begins as 2-year-olds. While we all know that riding horses isnt the safest activity in the world, these factors compounded the risk that I was subjecting myself to on a daily basis - and with each passing year, I felt it more.

This feeling really came to a head when I had my daughter at age thirty. When she was 6-months-old, I was coming off the gap at Pimlico Racetrack. The horse I was on was wearing blinkers, and of course my stirrups were very short. She was quite a tough horse to gallop, but usually very well behaved. She saw something that scared her and I was too relaxed, and before I knew it I was in the air grabbing for something, anything. I was totally airborne, and had a sinking realization in that moment that I was about to hit frozen ground. As I laid on the cold track, with a broken collar bone and bruises head to toe, I knew it was time for a new profession.

Changing Lanes

I moved to Ocala, Fla., and went into the medical field. Years passed and Ive always had a horse at my small farm here, since my daughter has the horse obsession as well. I felt lifetimes away from those adrenaline-filled days at the track, and there was a lot to be said for having a job that didnt threaten bodily harm!

Six years ago, when I was 56, my daughter told me I should start taking jumping lessons. I had always wanted to learn, but didnt even know the difference between hunter and jumper, I just knew I was too old to try and beat the clock on a horse. So, I agreed to take lessons with a hunter trainer - I met Isaac Leffkowitz and that was the day my life changed.

When One Door Closes...

What started as the occasional lesson with Isaac turned into purchasing a school horse. I had a blast. I was learning flatwork and jumping crossrails and just having fun. I felt reconnected to my old life but in a new, more fulfilling way. My amazing mare had an injury and we were out for 8 months, then 6 months after starting work again, I lost her to an infection. I suffered from severe depression due to losing her and that was a very difficult time in my life. I felt like the rug had been ripped out from under me, and I missed her.

As I was searching for another horse, Isaac wanted me to try a horse that had soured as a top dressage horse. Hed bred her and he couldn't find a person that meshed with her. I rode her and at first felt her hesitation, but we began to get to know each other. We have worked hard as a team, and learned each other's needs and expectations with Isaacs guidance, and I could not be happier. She went from a horse that people feared to one that I would comfortably put my 9-year-old granddaughter on for a pony ride.

I know that being in my head is holding me back and Im really struggling with confidence. It's funny now because people say, You galloped racehorses, but youre afraid to get in the show ring?"

Anxiety Creeps In

At this point, I have competed three times in the hunters. The first show was in Tampa and I rode in the long stirrup class which had been combined with the childrens, so I competed against 10-year-olds and their ponies. It was the ultimate embarrassment, but I had to start somewhere. The fear and anxiety was overwhelming. I did it, but can barely remember anything that happened in the ring. In my most recent show, I was again so overwhelmed with anxiety, but it was easier and I did fairly well.

I know that being in my head is holding me back and Im really struggling with confidence. It's funny now because people say, You galloped racehorses, but youre afraid to get in the show ring?" My fear is not of my horse. It's not even of getting hurt. It's thoughts like, "I'm going to forget the course" or "I'm going to miss my distance.

How Im Working on Improving

With my trainer Isaac, weve identified that my tendency is to freeze in the show ring. When I was showing at HITS in March, I was very anxious about forgetting my course. It was cold and windy so, lucky for me, there were no spectators except my barn mates. I reviewed the course with Isaac one last time, walked into the ring knowing my first jump, and suddenly blanked on how to get to that jump. Which way do I go? Which lead do I need to be on? Luckily, Isaac was there to direct me and it ended up being my best round.

I now know what happened to me when I froze, thanks to Dr. Jenny Sussers Masterclass. The blood had rushed out of my frontal lobe causing my "fight or flight" instinct to kick on - as she says, I had "literally lost my mind." I knew I had to figure out how to deal with this anxiety.

Dr. Sussers Masterclass made me understand what physiologically happens, which helps immensely. She also helped me understand that I struggle with anxiety, not fear (and they are different). Since taking her class, I have been doing the box breathing and am learning the correct way to meditate.

I would recommend the Masterclasses to any other riders who deal with this type of mental block. Specifically, Ive enjoyed Dr. Jenny Sussers and Annette Paterakiss courses. It has helped me take back control of my body and mind. The more you know, the easier it is to deal with. I also feel that showing more often will help me gain experience - and with experience comes confidence.

Good luck to all my fellow riders out there - we CAN master our minds!

Isanxiety holding you back in the saddle?Dr. Jenny Susser's Masterclass gives you the tools to become more powerful than your fear.

AnastasiaDate Explains How to Make Summer Romance Last with Matches from Around the World – MENAFN.COM

(MENAFN - GetNews) AnastasiaDate reveals powerful advice on how to make summer romance last with global matches.

AnastasiaDate, the premier online dating service for matches worldwide, has provided powerful advice on how to turn the thrill of summer romance into a more serious connection with matches worldwide. The leading dating platform is renowned for delivering timely dating tips to enhance the international dating experience and summer is always an important time to get romance right.

AnastasiaDate is a global dating expert with unmatched experience in bringing couples together from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The platform has now shared valuable advice on how members can make summer romance last with matches they meet worldwide.

Summer romance often begins in sizzling sunshine and is well known for its fleeting and temporary joys. Couples who meet during summer trips often see things fizzle out and communication drop off as the year goes on. However, AnastasiaDate is aiming to change all that by making matches realize that summer romance can last the distance. They have listed a number of tried and tested tips for making sure this happens.

Firstly, in order to keep the passion going through autumn and winter, it is important to create captivating summer memories that act as a great springboard to help couples stay together. This means having as much fun together as possible under the summer sun and doing things that help them form a real rapport and an unbreakable bond. The more powerful the initial romance, the stronger chance there is for the relationship to last.

Singles can lay the foundations for a long-term relationship by connecting on a deeper level. It is a good idea for partners to talk about things that really matter in the long term. When aiming to develop a relationship it is important to ask more about someone's home life and avoid living too much in the heat of the moment. Focusing on romance is essential in giving depth to a budding relationship. How someone behaves during a vacation may not reflect their life in general so it is good to go beyond the surface and learn more about them.

The golden rule about keeping a summer romance alive is to look to the future and aim to arrange the next real-life date. Putting an in-person meeting in the diary can really fuel the expectation, belief and closeness. Whether it's a live concert or a romantic road trip, making exciting plans together is a great ambition.

Once the relationship is established, it is best to try and shift the focus away from the summer and look to the future. Dwelling too much on the summer activities can prevent the relationship from moving ahead to the next level.

Finally, it is imperative that couples try to stay in contact using all forms of communication available to them. Singles can use a range of features on AnastasiaDate to stay in touch including Live Chat, CamShare, and photo swap.

Matches should be confident about expressing their feelings to each other in every way possible, especially as the cold winter approaches fast.

Keys to the Kingdom: The NCAA unveils its ambitious NIL rights proposal – Roll Bama Roll

Whether you frame the issue as a circular firing squad or prefer to imagine the NCAA, Congress, and student-athletes locked in a Mexican standoff, the NIL issue facing all three parties is a messy one.

Any solution amenable to the continued existence of college athletics is going to leave at least one party displeased. The more a solution veers towards status quo, the more likely the aggrieved parties will be student-athletes. On the other hand, a solution that is sweeping in its scope and favors student-athletes is going leave the NCAA with less teeth than it presently has (or uses) as it gums away at sports worst cheaters. This says nothing of endangering Title IX, competitive balance, shuttering many programs, and costing hundreds (if not thousands) of scholarships every year.

And Congress, of course, doesnt see much political hay to be made here in any event, (outside of bloviating for the kids) since the party with the most money at stake encompasses the powerbrokers. But the party that arrives to the table in far greater numbers, with the more equitable claim, and with overwhelmingly sympathetic press coverage, is the bloc representing the numerous players affected.

The intractable standoff and the tensions at play here have mainly led to hot takes from the press, meaningless denunciations from Senators, and stonewalling from the NCAA, as they come to Congress asking for the moon while offering up very little in terms of compromise or substantive change. Unfortunately, Congress is also the only entity capable of breaking this stalemate.

That is why it was very surprising yesterday to see the NCAA come to the Hart Building, hat-in-hand, and propose a student-friendly and exceptionally broad range of NIL rights for Congress consideration.

Ross Dellenger at Sports Illustrated has the full story here, but in a nutshell, the NCAAs four-page proposal does the following:

Notice whats not in there? No percentages, no monetary hard cap, no excruciating industry-by-industry restrictions on ventures.

So, say an Alabama running back can get a 4-year-old Dodge Charger with high miles if he appears in a hella cheesy local television ad. That sort of venture is not likely going to run afoul of continued amateurism or eligibility. But, LSU Bro signing a front-loaded $70 million dollar Nike endorsement deal, one that makes him a nine-digit-earner in college, is probably beyond any reasonable case to be made for continued amateur status.

In short, go forth and get paid...but dont be absurd about it. The market wont be stymied in advance, though it may be disallowed after the fact. And straight up Uncle Sugar bagman money is still prohibited.

To say that it is a bold approach is an understatement.

The NCAA isnt playing nearly the role as a market regulator (or market prohibitor) that it had previously suggested to Congress, nor has it painted itself into the all-or-nothing corner it has maintained for almost a century. Since there is an implied reasonableness threshold a very common and familiar objective criteria in the law it seems to be one that is easy to administer and encourages NIL rights to be spread across more sports, more players, and even across the Title IX sphere Sabrina Ionescu could have been making a nice living on the books the last four years at Oregon.

What does the NCAA want in return for a more hands-off, post hoc approach?

All that the NCAA is asking in return is everything.

No, seriously, everything:

The governing body of college athletics is asking for lawmakers to grant it antitrust protection, preemption from differing state NIL laws and to allow it to craft all rules on athlete compensation.

In exchange for letting players profit off of their image, name, likeness, performance, or even mere association with a winning program:

The NCAAs request is a big ask, to be sure. On paper, it looks like the NCAA is asking for everything. But, they do cite compelling reasons for Congress to play along practically drafting the legislative findings of fact that would accompany any bill it passed. They are familiar arguments too. Pay-for-play and unregulated NIL:

threatens gender equity in athletic programs, creates tax liability for athletes, creates an employer-employee relationship between schools and athletes, and invites corruption into college campuses. If differing state laws are allowed to remain, they would adversely impact the competitive balance that currently exists in college sports.

It is hard to argue with any of those conclusions either; they necessarily follow from an unregulated NIL landscape.

But perhaps two other reasons surface, and while not explicitly mentioned, accepting the NCAA deal has two political benefits for Congress.

When (and it is a matter of when), Star Player is sidelined for accepting that Bugatti Veyron, then constituents and the media and other tastemakers can be mad at the NCAA, not us. And, secondly, the NCAAs proposal doesnt require perpetual congressional oversight sign it, let the market sort it out, and let the whole mess be the NCAAs headache. And the latter is a powerful motivator, to be sure.

Yes, it seems to weigh in favor of the NCAA, but the proposal also does not create a bottleneck on the front end. It is expansive. It is exceptionally flexible. And it would end silly ineligibility cases weve seen the last decade where players lose games and seasons and bowl games over some tattoos, a plane ticket here and there, autograph money, or a couple of extra meals.

To go any further does create an employee-employer relationship; it does foster an even greater inequity across states and conferences and even within them; and it would all-but certainly spell the end of smaller programs, the loss educational opportunities and scholarships, and even the gutting of Title IX athletics.

While many may want the entire thing blown up, and to instead install some bastard love child of Ayn Rand and Adam Smith, that is simply never going to happen.

So, how will it play out?

As usual, we find that what passes for policy in this country may come down to two competing camps, with the golden rule settling the score.

The right favors less restrictions on players, of course. The thousands of D1 athletes far outnumber their counterparts on the administrative side of the equation. But, these college-aged Americans historically are also the most apathetic voters, the least attentive to the political process, and are the poorest age demographic hence, least likely to donate or vote. Meanwhile, the power brokers in the NCAAs camp and they are the governors and state legislators and big-time donors wield the clout and the cash that Senators most covet. Expediency then may steer Congress towards pleasing those who make campaign contributions and are powers in their own right.

Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.

That said, there is almost no way that Congress wont also make some demands regarding health and safety of players, concerns that the NCAA pooh-poohed away during their last hearing. But that is a story for another time.

For now, delight in the fact that the NCAAs proposal is likely to leave no one (except perhaps Congress) happy, and that may be the surest sign that is also a fair deal.

AnastasiaDate Explains How to Make Summer Romance Last with Matches from Around the World – Press Release – Digital Journal

AnastasiaDate reveals powerful advice on how to make summer romance last with global matches.

When aiming to develop a relationship it is important to ask more about someones home life and avoid living too much in the heat of the moment.

Whether its a live concert or a romantic road trip, making exciting plans together is a great ambition.

Letter to the Editor – Lynn Journal

Response to First to Worst

To the Editor,

There are a few reasons for why the Covid 19 virus has been worse here than in other countries. One is due to non-replacement of needed medical supplies used to fight the Sars virus under President Obama. Another is the never-ending accusations and obstruction of President Trump by some who want to make it difficult for him, even if its dishonest and against what is good for the country. These people should be regarded as red rather than blue as in Soviet Red Army or their current allies in Red China.

Many of todays young people are ignorant to history like the over 600,000 white guys who died in the civil war-fighting for what they believed was their country when our population was little more than a tenth of what it is today. Many lost arms and legs to a wood saw with the only painkiller of some whiskey.

Its also a shame to slander someone with accusations of racism by unfounded talk by those who are racist for political gain or just because they want to get t heir way. I thought that race isnt supposed to matter.

It would be good if more people consider the Golden Rule and that no one is perfect.

Calvin Sandborn: Lessons from the pandemic an approach to climate change – The Province

As Greta Thunberg argues, we have failed to empathize with our own great-grandchildren and the world of disease, drought, storms, floods, wildfire, mass migration, political instability and war that awaits them.TROY FLEECE / Regina Leader-Post

Be kind, be calm, be safe. Dr. Bonnie Henry

The evidence is overwhelming. The best strategy for beating COVID-19 is to combine good science with kindness. Now the same combination is needed to stop climate change.

B.C. has one of the best records in the world fighting COVID largely because provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry delivered scientific facts along with relentless reminders to be thoughtful of others.

In sharp contrast, the U.S. has the most COVID-19 cases and deaths in the world largely because President Donald Trump denied the science and urged Americans to nurse grievance and abandon empathy. Tens of thousands will now die because the inconvenience of mask-wearing is deemed more important than the lives of neighbours.

It turns out that bad science and failure of empathy is a particularly lethal combination.

There is an important lesson here. In essence, we have failed to deal with climate change for the same reasons that the U.S. failed in dealing with COVID. We have failed to heed the consensus science predicting imminent climate catastrophe. And, as Greta Thunberg argues, we have failed to empathize with our own great-grandchildren and the world of disease, drought, storms, floods, wildfire, mass migration, political instability and war that awaits them. Our refusal to walk in their shoes is the moral failure of our age.

Hopefully, our pandemic experience could change all this.

First, the COVID experience should renew respect for good science. For over 30 years, fossil fuel corporate fog machines have run a disinformation campaign against inconvenient scientific facts and funded politicians to claim that climate change is another hoax. But the pandemic with its more immediate connection between actions and fatal consequence has vividly demonstrated the danger of substituting conspiracy theories and alternative facts for scientific fact.

As Angela Merkel recently stressed: You cannot fight a pandemic with lies and disinformation any more than you can fight it with hate.

Every day, principled scientists such as Dr. Anthony Fauci re-instil public trust in sound science. Soon, a successful race for a vaccine like the 1950s race for a polio vaccine and the 1960s space race should dramatically restore trust in science. And science clearly demands urgent action on climate change.

Perhaps more important, the pandemic has taught us the critical importance of kindness, of fellow-feeling, of community. There is a reason why Dr. Henrys first public health injunction is Be kind. We are all interconnected, and we have to think about others in order for the community to be healthy.

We may bridle at putting on a mask, but we now know that selfish actions in a pandemic can kill a neighbours grandfather, give a friend a stroke. Similarly, we may bridle at giving up air travel and reducing car use, but if we love future children, we must act on climate change.

Our sense of community and kindness has deteriorated, particularly in the U.S. shattered by decades of media that shifted the social paradigm from FDRs I am my brothers keeper to the Trumpian Every dog for itself. Rush Limbaugh, Survivor, The Apprentice and professional wrestling have taught that people are either winners or losers, and you must not be a loser. Kick others off the island before they kick you off.

But the pandemic has vividly demonstrated that the Golden Rule is a better approach. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is superior social policy. We all win when we act on objective facts, and are kind to others including our imperilled grandchildren.

Thematic ETFs Invest In the Hottest Trends. How Not To Get Burned. – Barron’s

Text size

Investors are often told that the golden rule of investing is diversification. Sometimes, though, it pays to make a targeted bet. That has been the driving force behind thematic exchange-traded funds: These niche funds grew three times as fast as the rest of the ETF industry in the second quarter.

Thematic ETFs typically focus on long-term, societal trends, such as disruptive technologies, climate change, or shifting consumer behaviors. Some of the most popular themes include cloud computing, robotics, and electric vehicles, as well as the gig economy, e-commerce, and clean energy.

These are hot topics, for sure. And theyre hot stocks: Year to date, 89 out of the 129 thematic ETFs on the market beat the S&P 500 index, returning 17% on average; 47 of them even outran the best-performing sector, technology. Thanks to both strong inflows and market-beating performance, thematic ETFs saw their assets increase 65% in the second quarter, more than three times the broader ETF industrys 19% growth, according to data from Global X, which offers 20 thematic ETFs. Five years ago, there were just 40 thematic ETFs with $5 billion in assets. Today, theres $41 billion in these ETFs.

The Covid-19 pandemic, meanwhile, has disrupted how people live and how companies are runpossibly forever. More than ever, investors have become aware that the future might look very different from today, says Matthew Bartolini, State Streets head of SPDR Americas research, and they are interested in the companies that could be the biggest beneficiaries. This acceleration is likely to remain very sticky beyond Covid-19, says Jay Jacob, head of research and strategy for Global X.

For a theme to be investible, there must also be a large enough addressable market, and sufficient companies with products and services to address that market. Some industries, while promising, are still too nascent. TrueMark Investments, a new ETF firm founded just a year ago, closely monitors venture capital and private equity to identify emerging public companies for its $12 million TrueShares Technology, AI & Deep Learning ETF (ticker: LRNZ).

Note: Data as of July 30, 2020; *annualized; **the fund has fee waivers in place capping expenses at 0.55% until at least February 1, 2021; N/A means the funds are launched less than three years ago.

Despite thematic ETFs impressive returns, investors should proceed with caution. Most of these ETFs are quite small; More than half of the 129 funds have less than $100 million in assets, though a dozen have crossed the $1 billion mark. Most are also fairly new; just 16 funds have a 10-year track record, mostly in clean energy and natural resources; 75 havent been open for three years. Theyre also a bit more complicated to build, since theyre either actively managed or track a customized indexand that means they can be more costly. The average expense ratio for this group is 1.05%, while the broader ETF industry charges just 0.67%.

Two of the largest thematic ETFs, the $6.1 billion ARK Innovation (ARKK) and $4.7 billion First Trust Cloud Computing (SKYY), have returned 61% and 29%, respectively, year to date, beating the $32 billion Technology Select Sector SPDR (XLK)s 18% return. The $1.6 billion ARK Genomic Revolution (ARKG) is the largest thematic ETF focused on health-care innovation; it has returned 63% year to date, ahead of the $24 billion Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV)s 5% return.

Thematic ETFs dont perform like their sectors ETFs because they are actually quite different. Most thematic ETFs have very little overlap with traditional sector funds. They usually have fewer stocks, and tend to own more small and international stockssometimes across multiple sectors. The 39 holdings in ARK Innovation, for instance, have an average market cap of $8.4 billion, whereas the technology SPDR, with 72 stocks, has an average market cap of $339 billion. The ARK fund also has 13% in international stocks, and the SPDR, virtually zero. Only two of the ARK funds holdings Xilinx (XLNX) and Autodesk (ADSK)also belong to the SPDR tech ETF, and due to their smaller size, they account for only 1% of the SPDR tech. Similarly, only three out of the 39 stocks that the ARK Genomic Revolution holds are also in the health-care SPDR, making up just 4% of the latters portfolio.

Every weekday evening we highlight the consequential market news of the day and explain what's likely to matter tomorrow.

Because thematic ETFs are so specific, even those with similar names can turn out to have little in common. The same theme can be interpreted differently, and various methodsfrom fundamental to quantitativeare used to select and weigh stocks.

Investors who still want some diversification might be better served with equal-weighted funds, especially those with a higher number of holdings. The $2.4 billion iShares Exponential Technologies (XT) and the $1 billion SPDR Kensho New Economies Composite (KOMP), for instance, have about 200 and 400 holdings, respectively, and both are largely equal-weighted, with minor modifications. This is really about delivering thematic beta, says Jeff Spiegel, head of iShares megatrend and international ETFs at BlackRock, Its not about having a view that one particular company will be the winner of the theme. Its much more about getting exposure to a range of firms.

Many thematic ETFs are more concentrated, however. These can be more pure plays, but only as a supplement to an otherwise well-diversified portfolio. Ark Financials and Global Xs ETFs, for instance, have fewer holdings, often less than 50, and the weighting depends on either active managers conviction or how well the stocks have been performing. Thematic investing, if done right, should be more concentrated, says Global Xs Jacob, You own the companies that are best positioned to benefit from the materialization of a trend.

Remembering the bomb – The News International

It was the morning of August 6, 1945 when the most tragic and horrific incident in human history happened. During World War II, an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima and within seconds, the city full of life was burned into ashes due to the combination of heat and explosive material.

More than 100,000 fatalities were reported. Another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki three days later on August 9, 1945 killing around 80,000 people. To avoid more human losses, Japan decided to surrender on the 15th of August, 1945 and thus, World War II officially ended.

Every year, the day is marked on August 6 in the city of Hiroshima. Special prayers for lasting world peace are also held. The first ceremony, which was held after two years of the tragic incident in 1947, eventually succeeded to attract a large number of participants, including relatives of the families of the deceased and peace loving people from all over the world. On the occasion, participants show their firm commitment for ensuring world peace.

In my view, it was indeed a tough time for Japan 75 years ago as an economically devastated country was facing extreme pressure. In response to the atomic attack, there were two options available to react aggressively or show patience. However, the Japanese leadership decided to promote peace. They had to compromise on almost every national issue. But the Japanese people were very well aware of the fact that education is the only tool with which they could regain their lost position to stand on their feet once again. Between 1945 and 1952, widespread educational, technological and social reforms were witnessed in almost every field.

Rather than showing aggression and wanting to take revenge, the Japanese leadership analyzed the whole situation with a cool mind and decided to transform the country into one free of violence. The great Japanese nation also felt no hesitation to seek support from former enemy countries. The contribution of renowned American business management expert W Edwards Deming is widely acknowledged throughout Japan. Under his guidance, the Japanese nation learned about the importance of quality products. Dr Deming taught the golden rule that improving the quality of Japanese products can result in rapid growth rate and good reputation of Japan in the eyes of the international community.

Today, after 75 years, the dominance of Japanese technologies in every sector is an undeniable fact. There was a time when Japan had to take loans but today the world economy is heavily dependent on Japan. All this happened because the Japanese nation did not give up, and carried on their journey towards prosperity with positive intentions into the right direction.

There is a prominent dominance and wide popularity of Japanese companies, such as: Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Nikon, Canon and Mitsubishi, in the global market with a repute of producing reliable, durable and best quality products.

Besides technological advancements, Japan is also known as a role model for world peace. Its foreign policy is based on the remarkable principle of 'Proactive Contribution to Peace' for ensuring international cooperation in different sectors. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is also committed to becoming a bridge between the people of Japan and developing countries, including Pakistan, through the sharing of knowledge and experience, in order to transform a more peaceful and prosperous world. Thats why the positive role of Japan is being acknowledged throughout the world.

We should learn a lesson from Japan about how a highly demoralized, financially devastated and defeated nation succeeded to rise from the ashes of the atomic bomb to become the second-largest economy. In my view, the adoption of an optimistic approach in the right decision always results in achieving desired goals and targets.
