ONLY two days into the new year we were blessed with another politically inspired missive from regular contributor Mr Cook, from Bradwell.
We had two contributions in December.
The first was congratulating npower on sacking 400 workers in Stoke. He vindicates this by claiming he has only ever received poor service from npower.
How can such a staunch leftist support job losses, whatever the circumstances?
His next piece of literary genius was to berate Boris Johnson for his speech, in which BoJo referred to the low attainment levels of people with below average IQ.
Mr Cook suggested that BoJo and, ergo the coalition leaders, were in favour of eugenics (look it up in the dictionary) a speech which both David Cameron and George Osborne distanced themselves from.
His latest offering (Sentinel, January 3) is a rant about the state of our poor nation, which has been brought about by the Coalition and suggesting that folks take to the ballot box in 2015 to re-elect Mr Brown's Boys.
I wonder if Gordon Brown might become more visible during that campaign.
Mr Cook, why not look on the bright side of life, offer some positive opinions once in a while, give a balanced view and stop ranting?

Are you ready to have your mind boggled so hard that you might vomit? Great. Author Amy Chua, also known as Tiger Mom, Dubious Yale Law Professor, and Psycho Lady Author Who Ties Her Children to Benches as Discipline, has widened her scope of racial superiority trolling with a new, utterly confusing book that claims that only eight cultural groups have what it takes to succeed in America. The not-so-hidden subtext of her book is that everyone else can suck it it being my wildly successful, Ivy-League attending, culturally superior ladyboner.
First and foremost because we know youre so anxious about whether youre a culturally-predestined loser or not what are the best cultures? Chuas book The Triple Package singles out the following:
The group least likely to succeed in America: Poor white people, because, as Chua says with utter seriousness, its far more socially acceptable today to insult and look down on white trash than the poor of any other racial group. We should take her word for it. Chua is Chinese and her co-author/husband, Jed Rubenfeld, is Jewish. By this virtue alone, they can see things from their lofty racial perch that we mongrels, ignorantly wallowing in ignorant ignorance down here, do not.
(Sidenote: to our Chinese-American and Jewish readers, we dont blame you for Amy Chua and/or Jed Rubenfeld, and absolve you of all responsibility for anything these raving narcissists bellow. XOXO, Mediaite.)
And why these groups? Whats wrong with, say, the Irish? A baffled New York Post review attempted to summarize Chuas argument: these groups possess, in the authors estimation, three qualities that theyve identified as guarantors of wealth and power: superiority, insecurity and impulse control. These qualities, collectively known as the Triple Package, are only abundant in those eight cultural groups because theyre all immigrant cultures. Except for the Jews and Mormons but theyre like immigrants, see, because according to the book, they all:
The Posts final word: this book is terrible, and that Amy Chua sucks at both basic research (collecting data, making coherent arguments, and not-pandering) and being a rabble-rouser. [The book is] a series of shock-arguments wrapped in self-help tropes, they rule, and its meant to do what racist arguments do: scare people.
That, and give us concussions. Let us all go lie down in dark rooms and take some ibuprofen.
(Sidenote 1: We love how, unlike her last book Battle Cry of the Tiger Mom, Chua singles out Chinese people as The Best Asians in America, ignoring all the other Asian immigrant groups in the US, despite the fact that they also possess the Triple Package. Sorry, Vietnamese people; screw you, Koreans; and go eff yourself, Thai folk apparently were all inferior to Amy Chua and her Chinese Master Race.)

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman announced the list of former basketball players who plan to travel to North Korea to play in an exhibition game for ruler Kim Jong Uns birthday.
The players include former NBA all-stars Kenny Anderson, Cliff Robinson, Vin Baker, Craig Hodges, Doug Christie and Charles D. Smith. The team will head to Pyongyang to play a North Korean Senior National team on Jan. 8 in what Rodman calls basketball diplomacy.
Smith, a former player for the New York Knicks, said the trip was about cultural exchange.Cultural exchange is about sharing. Sharing ideas and thoughts on education, culture and life, he said.
Rodman, who last visited North Korea in December to train the North Korean basketball team, said his trip would not be affected by the recent execution of Kims uncle.

Va. lawmakers revive eugenics compensation bill
Advocates for people who were sterilized in Virginia under the misguided science of eugenics are seeking compensation for surviving victims in the upcoming session of the General Assembly, with more support than last year when legislators quashed their first attempt.
More than 8,000 Virginia residents lost the ability to have children, and at least half of those surgeries on women and men were performed in Madison Heights at what's now the Central Virginia Training Center.

Number of Victims
Over 8,000 sterilizations were approved by the Eugenics Board of North Carolina. The total number of victims actually sterilized is estimated to have been over 7,600 (Winston-Salem, Lifting the Curtain on a Shameful Era). Of this number, females represented approx. 85% of those sterilized (State Library, Statistics, p. 1). By the late 1960s, the sterilization of men was virtually halted, as women made up 99% of those sterilized (Sinderbrand, p. 1). African Americans represent 39% of those sterilized overall; by the later 1960s, they made up 60% of those sterilized, even though they made up only a quarter of the population (Sinderbrand, p. 1). Of those sterilized up to 1963, 25% were considered mentally ill and 70% were considered mentally deficient. In each of these categories, females account for over 75% of the sterilizations. North Carolina ranked third in the United States for the total number of people sterilized.

Eugenics – a planned evolution for life.
Envision every human as equal at birth; in beauty, health, mental health, social strength and intelligence. A designed evolutionary system with goals and planning would provide all of these for every human. Only then can a truly egalitarian society be obtained.
It is natural (ethical, moral, expected) behavior for the human species to modify natural processes to its advantage. As the human species learns more and more about the genetic structure of the human, and its implications in form and culture, it will apply that knowledge (make use of it). To do so is in the nature of the human. Mistakes will be made. That, also, is human. Some will use that knowledge to take unfair advantage of others. That, also, is human. The human will then learn from and overcome from those mistakes and take steps to continuously perfect the application. That, also, is human.
The first requirement for any application of genetic knowledge to the welfare and survival of the species is that each such application be technically justified beforehand. This requires that the application be pretested for validity and tested for adverse side effects. It must then be shown to have a provable net positive effect, with adequate safety margins.

While the idea of improving humans through selective breeding is at least as old as the ancient Greeks, it gained widespread prominence after 1869. In 1883, Sir Francis Galton coined the word "eugenics," from the Greek word eugenes, meaning "well-born" or "hereditarily endowed with noble qualities," to describe this new science of directed human evolution. Galton's work, and the subsequent rediscovery of Gregor Mendel's genetic studies, convinced many scientists and social reformers that eugenic control over heredity could improve human life.
Galton's ideas swept America during the Progressive Era of the early twentieth century. At that time, many scientists and laypeople believed that eugenics could facilitate social progress by eradicating problems ranging from alcoholism and prostitution to poverty and disease. What better way to prevent such misfortunes, eugenicists asked, than to prevent the birth of people genetically susceptible to them? Eugenics seemed to offer an efficient and humane solution to society's ills. Unfounded hope in this imperfect science, however, ultimately contributed to repressive social policies, including marriage and immigration restriction, forced sterilization, segregation, and, in the case of Nazi Germany, euthanasia ("mercy killing") and genocide, all in the name of human betterment.
British Origins
Charles Darwin's theories of evolution by natural selection rocked the scientific world in 1859, and prompted his cousin, Galton, to study human evolution. Galton's first book, Hereditary Genius (1869), analyzed famous European families and concluded that "genius," which he defined as the ability to succeed in life, tended to run in families. Galton believed that individuals inherited the traits that destined them to either success or failure. Thus, success resulted from biology, not from the wealth or poverty of a person's background, and controlled breeding might permanently improve the human race.
Galton hoped to speed and direct human evolution. Writing in Inquiries into the Human Faculty and Its Development (1883), Galton defined eugenics as "the science of improving stock to give the more suitable races or strains of blood a better chance of prevailing speedily over the less suitable than they otherwise would have had." Familiar with farmers' achievements in breeding more-valuable plants and animals, Galton believed that such methods were "equally applicable to men, brutes, and plants."
Galton identified those fit folk who should have children and stigmatized those he deemed unfit for parenthood. He also believed then-accepted notions of "racial" superiority and inferiority, had more to do with class and cultural prejudice than with biological difference. Galton assumed that wealthy people like himself were fit, whereas poor folk were unfit. Northern European "white" people stood atop the evolutionary scale of fitness, followed by "whites" from southeast Europe, Asians, Native Americans, Africans, and Australian Aborigines.
Positive and Negative Eugenics
Galton identified positive and negative eugenics as the two basic methods to improve humanity. Positive eugenics used education, tax incentives, and childbirth stipends to encourage procreation among fit people. Education would convince fit parents to have more children, out of a desire to increase the common good. Lower taxes on larger families and the provision of a small birth payment for each "eugenic" child would provide further inducements. Conversely, eugenically educated but unfit people would selflessly forgo procreation, to prevent the propagation of their hereditary "taint." Believing that neither altruism nor self-interest would be enough to control the unfit, however, many eugenicists also advocated negative eugenics.
Negative eugenics sought to limit procreation through marriage restriction, segregation, sexual sterilization, and, in its most extreme form, euthanasia. In an attempt to decrease procreation among the "unfit," laws prohibited marriage to people with diseases, or other conditions believed to be hereditary. Similar restrictions banned marriage between people of different races, in order to prevent miscegenation. Popular in the United States, antimiscegenation laws sought to use science to legitimize racial prejudice. Since marriage restriction failed to stop extramarital procreation, eugenicists argued for more intrusive interventions.
Many of these more intrusive interventions relied upon segregation. For example, individuals judged unfit might be segregated in institutions such as insane asylums, tuberculosis sanatoriums, and homes for the so-called feebleminded or mentally retarded. Isolated from "normal" society, these people were also segregated by sex within the institution to prevent procreation. Segregation through incarceration, however, proved too costly to be applied to all but the most severely handicapped.

Parents are increasingly asking to choose the sex of their children in an attempt to lower their baby's risk of diseases and disorders ranging from cancer to autism, IVF doctors say.
Figures from one of Sydney's top IVF clinics show about one in 20 parents seeking embryo screening are looking to have a female baby to reduce their risk of autism.
The question is, what is the best thing for that woman: continuing to try on her own and miscarrying versus doing IVF and testing the embryos? We can't know for sure that everybody definitely benefits.
Fertility experts say the issue is the tip of the iceberg with a huge range of tests becoming available. Some clinics in the US now offer testing for up to 600 different genetic markers.
The medical director of the fertility company Genea, Mark Bowman, said his organisation had done more than 100 cycles of what is known as "pre-implantation genetic diagnosis" this year, mostly for conditions such as cystic fibrosis, where family members have the condition and a gene mutation is known to be responsible.

"In a way these tests are the ultimate preventative medicine," Associate Professor Bowman said.
National Health and Medical Research Council guidelines say sex selection is not allowed, except to prevent the transmission of a "serious genetic condition", although some Australian couples travel overseas to have the procedure for ''family balancing''.
He said in about one in 20 cases parents sought pre-implantation diagnosis simply for sex selection to lower their risk of having a child with autism, after having an autistic child. Boys are about four times as likely as girls to have autism, but there is no genetic test for it.

Nazi eugenics were Nazi Germany's racially based social policies that placed the improvement of the Aryan race or Germanic "Ubermenschen" master race through eugenics at the center of Nazis ideology.[1] Those humans were targeted who were identified as "life unworthy of life" (German: Lebensunwertes Leben), including but not limited to the criminal, degenerate, dissident, feeble-minded, homosexual, idle, insane, and the weak, for elimination from the chain of heredity. More than 400,000 people were sterilized against their will, while 275,000 were killed under Action T4, a "euthanasia" program.[2][3]
After the eugenics movement was well established in the United States, it was spread to Germany. California eugenicists began producing literature promoting eugenics and sterilization and sending it overseas to German scientists and medical professionals.[4] By 1933, California had subjected more people to forceful sterilization than all other U.S. states combined. The forced sterilization program engineered by the Nazis was partly inspired by California's.[5]
The Rockefeller Foundation helped develop and fund various German eugenics programs, including the one that Josef Mengele worked in before he went to Auschwitz.[4][6]
Upon returning from Germany in 1934, where more than 5,000 people per month were being forcibly sterilized, the California eugenics leader C. M. Goethe bragged to a colleague:
"You will be interested to know that your work has played a powerful part in shaping the opinions of the group of intellectuals who are behind Hitler in this epoch-making program. Everywhere I sensed that their opinions have been tremendously stimulated by American thought . . . I want you, my dear friend, to carry this thought with you for the rest of your life, that you have really jolted into action a great government of 60 million people."[7]
Eugenics researcher Harry H. Laughlin often bragged that his Model Eugenic Sterilization laws had been implemented in the 1935 Nuremberg racial hygiene laws.[8] In 1936, Laughlin was invited to an award ceremony at Heidelberg University in Germany (scheduled on the anniversary of Hitler's 1934 purge of Jews from the Heidelberg faculty), to receive an honorary doctorate for his work on the "science of racial cleansing". Due to financial limitations, Laughlin was unable to attend the ceremony and had to pick it up from the Rockefeller Institute. Afterwards, he proudly shared the award with his colleagues, remarking that he felt that it symbolized the "common understanding of German and American scientists of the nature of eugenics."[9]
Adolf Hitler read racial hygiene tracts during his imprisonment in Landsberg Prison.[10] He thought that Germany could become strong again only if the state applied the principles of racial hygiene and eugenics to German society.[citation needed]
Hitler believed the nation had become weak, corrupted by the infusion of degenerate elements into its bloodstream.[11] These had to be removed quickly. He also believed that the strong and the racially pure should be encouraged to have more children, and that the weak and the racially impure should be neutralized by one means or another.[citation needed]
The racialism and idea of competition, termed social Darwinism in 1944, were discussed by European scientists and also in the Vienna press during the 1920s. Where Hitler picked up the ideas is uncertain. The theory of evolution had been generally accepted in Germany at the time but this sort of extremism was rare.[12] In 1876, Ernst Haeckel had discussed the selective infanticide policy of the Greek city of ancient Sparta.[13]
In his Second Book, which was unpublished during the Nazi era, Hitler praised Sparta, adding that he considered Sparta to be the first "Vlkisch State". He endorsed what he perceived to be an early eugenics treatment of deformed children:

I AM just getting sick to the back teeth of the right-wing Coalition Government's Eugenics policy. Boris Johnson's Tory philosophy that people are poor because of a low IQ is but one example of how the Tories and Liberal Democrats are totally out of touch with the causes of our sick and broken society.
We all know what Adolph Hitler's answer was to dealing with those sections of the community thought to be to blame for the downfall of the economy. Of course, Cameron wouldn't get away with it in 21st-century Britain.
However, fraud at the banks and what is, in my opinion, energy company extortion can be allowed to flourish.
Because those with an alleged low IQ can pick up the bill for it.
Punishing people who have hit hard times because of state-funded corporate greed, by bullying them into small shoebox homes, in an attempt to belittle them, via means of a housing waiting list for over 10 months in order to avoid a financial penalty in the form of a stealth tax on bedrooms, isn't the answer to making work pay.
You can't eradicate the 'embarrassing' sight of the severely disabled by denying them of vital services for their disability. That will only trigger international condemnation.
So what can we do about right-wing social injustice that has crept up on us like a terminal cancer over the past three and a half years?
Cut it out by voting like somebody with a high IQ. Say "No" to Lib-Con Eugenics.
