‘Cyborg’ Justino stops Tonya Evinger with TKO for …

ANAHEIM, Calif. Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino was a spectator when the UFCs womens division debuted here in February 2013.

Flanked by her advisor and former UFC champ Tito Ortiz, Justino told reporters why she couldnt fight Ronda Rousey: she was physically unable to make the cut down to bantamweight (135 pounds). More than four years later and fighting at the 145-pound featherweight division, Justino got her UFC title fight and title at Honda Center as she defeated Tonya Evinger via a TKO (punches) on Saturday.

I am very happy and proud to own this belt and it will be really hard to take it away from me," Cyborg said after the fight. "For the Cyborg Nation fans who were expecting the third belt, here it is."

Cyborg hasnt lost since her pro MMA debut in May 2005 and previosoly held belts in Strikeforce and Invicta FC. Shesecured the UFC featherweight belt that was stripped from Germaine de Randamie in May. De Randamie called Justino a known and proven cheater and refused to take the fight.

The bout was the UFC debut for Evinger(19-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

Justino (18-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) took control of the bout early, the only thing stopping the barrage of fists and kicks thrown by Justino was an eye poke by Evinger. The referee stopped the fight to check Justinos eye. The fight resumed after the pause and Justino finished the round with a knee to Evingers head.

Justino continued to pick away at Evinger in the second round.

Evinger was unable to avoid the massive strikes and crumpled to the mat for a second time in the third round. Justino pounced and after she delivered a few blows, a stoppage was called at 1:56 in the third round.

"I was very calm this time, calculating the right time to throw the right punches and kicks. I respect Tonya a lot," Justino said. "She is a hard fighter and I hope she has a chance in her division. I dont know what comes next, but I would love to face Holly Holm. I think she was a great champion and fans would like to see us fight.

Justinos MMA credentials only lacked one thing until Saturday: a UFC title. While her inability to make weight at 135 before the 145-pound division was created last year held her back, drug issues have also dogged her career.

Justino tested positive for the steroid stanozolol, a violation that was flagged after her fight against Hiroko Yamanaka in December 2011. The violation cost Justino the win which changed to a no-contest along with her Strikeforce belt and resulted in a one-year suspension.

In January, Justino failed an out-of-competition drug test. She was not punished after she submitted information to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which administers the UFCs drug-testing program, that the positive test was the result of a legitimate medical treatment.

Cris Cyborg mouthpiece, Tito Ortiz, is crapping all over Ronda Rousey after UFC 214 – MMAmania.com

Cristiane Justino has done something quite remarkable in her mixed martial arts (MMA) career, holding featherweight titles for Strikeforce, Invicta Fighting Championship, and now Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

She also has a staggering 16 knockouts in 18 wins.

Those achievements are enough to stand on their own, but advisor and former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz wants to make sure the combat sports universe recognizes that Cyborg is head and shoulders above ex-bantamweight queenpin Ronda Rousey.

From his conversation with Submission Radio:

Ronda was a flash in the pan. And nothing against her, she was a great champ at the time, but when youre getting hand-fed opponents, it is what it is. But Cris is not a person to submit people and give them an opportunity to do it again, shes a person to knock people out. As you heard tonight at the press conference, people comparing her to a Mike Tyson. But now shes a confident person, is keeping her hips low and yeah, she swings like Mike Tyson. All of her sparring partners, theyre all men. We dont have any women sparring partners with her, and when they do its just a confidence booster for her, and Ive got to thank all of them for coming in and working with her. Cris is finally the UFC world champ.

Proof that you can never say never.

Justino (18-1, 1 NC) angled for a Rousey fight for the better part of four years, but continued to find roadblocks along the way. The former wanted a catchweight bout while the latter wanted murder charges.

Not that it matters at this point.

Rousey has since been knocked out in back-to-back fights and may never return to UFC, while Cyborg fresh off her destruction of Tonya Evinger at UFC 214 is looking better than ever.

Send in The Preachers Daughter.

Tuesday, August 1 – UFC

ANAHEIM, Calif.

Hunched over after falling to his knees, with his light heavyweight championship once again around his waist, Jon Jones emerged from the darkness into a bright new future.

The message: The Champ is Here, just as Joness music prophetically proclaimed as he walked to the Octagon for the first time in more than year.

It got really dark and I spent a lot of time being depressed, Jones said of his time away from the sport while suspended for numerous violations. To be back here and to have so much light and the cheers it was a dream come true. It felt like it was my first title.

Here is the winners circle in the main event of UFC 214 after a vicious headkick led to a ground and pound TKO finish against archrival Daniel Cormier, putting an exclamation on the grandest rivalry in MMA history.

These are the UFC 214 Talking Points

Jones credits DC, describes path to victory

Cormier controlled the action in the first two rounds against a rusty Jones. DC was landing in the striking exchanges, but Jones remained patient and continued to spray strikes specifically, his patented low leg kicks.

But just as Cormier seemed to be on his way to avenging the worst loss of his career, the greatness of Jones allowed him to change the course of the fight and finish.

Daniel Cormier started getting caught up in it being a boxing match and I think he forgot about the takedowns and the kicking and all that, Jones said. He was focused on the low kicks and I surprised him with the high kick and landed flush. I smelled blood and I put him away.

Jones was adamant that he would act much differently toward Cormier at the conclusion of their second fight, after he relentlessly rubbed in his win following the first go around. Once he wrapped his Octagon interview, Jones went over and tried to embrace Cormier, who was still trying to figure out what happened.

I felt like Daniel really elevated his game, Jones said. The two years off and Daniel being active and its a testament to the great team hes a part of. He improved a lot. He came with new weapons and a new level of composure.

Whats next for Bones

After the fight, Jones made an emphatic call out to former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. He told FOX backstage that he feels its the right time for a superfight and who better than one of the biggest and most popular heavyweights of all time.

Brock Lesnar, if you want to feel what its like to get your ass kick by a guy who weighs 40 pounds less than you, meet me in the Octagon, Jones said. He then slammed the microphone and made his exit.

Woodleys third defense gets mixed reaction

Tyron Woodley dominated his fight against Demian Maia to retain his welterweight title, but the performance didnt thrill the fans in attendance at Honda Center, who booed throughout and decided to entertain themselves with an old-fashioned crowd wave.

Im willing to win fights and when its someone that is a freestyle fighter then Im going to go in there and take their head off, Woodley said. When its someone thats a jiu-jitsu master, it would be silly for me to take him down and try to submit him. I was satisfied with my performance; not everyone is going to understand what is taking place in there. Its a chess match and I won it convincingly.

Cyborg finally wears UFC gold

Tonya Evinger was a game opponent, but the crisp boxing and explosion of Cris Cyborg allowed the Brazilian to take home the vacant featherweight title.

Years in the making, Cyborg was thrilled to be able to accomplish her dream.

I think this is the perfect time because I think Im at the top of my career now. Im really happy. Im going to make great fights inside this Octagon.

UFC president Dana White said that former featherweight title challenger Holly Holm has showed interest in fighting Cyborg and that could be the next 145-pound title fight. Holm was in attendance Saturday night in Anaheim, in part to support Jones, her Jackson Wink MMA teammate

‘Cyborg’ challenges WWE star to SummerSlam bout after title win – New York Post

Shortly after winning her first UFC title by defeating Tonya Evinger, Cris Cyborg Justino called out her next desired opponent except she wasnt from the UFC.

The new UFC featherweight champion continued her running Twitter feud with WWE superstar Becky Lynch, again asking for a match at Barclays Center on Aug. 20.

I won my #ufc214 fight @TripleH now I want @BeckyLynchWWE in the @wwe at #summerslam, Justino tweeted after beating Evinger by third-round TKO on Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Justino has been calling out Lynch, a former Smackdown womens champion and one of the catalysts for the companys womens revolution since early July. She tweeted a fantasy SummerSlam billboard featuring her and Lynch while take a jab at Ronda Rousey. Lynch has yet to be booked in a match for SummerSlam.

#SummerSlam2017 #CyborgNation Vs The World! If @WWE cant get Rowdy in the ring Im not afraid of @BeckyLynchWWE, Justino tweeted.

Lynch was all for the bout, tweeting:

Ive never backed down from a challenge. Come at me bro.

While the fantasy would be a headline grabber at SummerSlam, Justino still has business to attend to in the UFC.

Justino said she wants her next MMA fight to be against Holly Holm.

I dont know what comes next, but I would love to face Holy Holm, Justino said in a statement. I think she was a great champion and fans would like to see us fight.

The sight Justino would like to see next, however, is Lynch standing across from her in Brooklyn.

Tito Ortiz: ‘Cyborg’ should’ve been face of women’s MMA long before … – MMAjunkie.com

February 23, 2013 was a historic night for the UFC at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

It was UFC 157, and in the main event, Ronda Rousey submitted Liz Carmouche with her signature armbar to defend the bantamweight title in the very first UFC womens fight that set off a revolution in MMA.

At that time, Cristiane Justino already was known as a one of the most dangerous fighters in the world male or female. But she wouldnt get her moment in the UFC spotlight until May of 2016. Fast forward to Saturday night at UFC 214, and in the same building where Rousey made history, Cyborg finally became a UFC champion with a TKO of Tonya Evinger to win the womens featherweight title.

It was just the second UFC womens 145-pound bout to take place, though with inaugural champion Germaine de Randamie opting to have her belt stripped instead of defending it against Justino, it felt like a new beginning for the division.

And for Tito Ortiz, friend and training partner of Justino, it felt like history was made similar to Rouseys four-and-a-half years ago.

You know, I really do, Ortiz told Submission Radio. Its just that I think Cris is more of a true person. You know, she really doesnt let her head get to her. Shes very calm, collective and very mellow-mannered person. Shes an awesome woman. She doesnt get cocky, she doesnt treat people bad. Cris is a true champion. Shes a true peoples champion. She goes out of her way to help people, and thats what champions are made of, and thats what Cris is made of.

Justino (18-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and Rousey (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC)beefed in the past during Rouseys reign as UFC womens bantamweight champion, though Cyborg made it clear during fight week she isnt holding any grudges. Even though Justino said she has no desire to fill Rouseys shoes as the new face of womens MMA, Ortiz believes its inevitable.

Because its also long overdue.

Yeah, thats whats going to happen to Cris Cyborg 100 percent. She is going to be the face of womens MMA. She should have been a long time ago, shes gonna be now, Ortiz said. You know, Ronda was a flash in the pan. And nothing against her, she was a great champ at the time, but when youre getting hand-fed opponents, it is what it is. But Cris is not a person to submit people and give them an opportunity to do it again, shes a person to knock people out as you heard tonight at the press conference, people comparing her to a Mike Tyson.

But now shes a confident person, is keeping her hips low and, yeah, she swings like Mike Tyson. All of her sparring partners, man, theyre all men. We dont have any women sparring partner with her, and when they do its just a confidence booster for her, and Ive got to thank all of them for coming in and working with her. Cris is finally the UFC world champ.

She certainly waited long enough to be called that. What she does with that title is up to her.

UFC 214 Results: Jon Jones, Cyborg Justino TKOs Highlight Card – Bleacher Report

Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Getty Images

The bitter rivalry between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier came to an epic conclusion to close out the show at UFC 214 on Saturday in Anaheim, California. With one hellacious left high kick, Bones reclaimed the division he once ruled over so forcefully.

The new champion dethroned Cormier with a third-round TKO, but it wasn't the easiest of his long list of victories.

Cormier had his moments. The former Olympian looked much more prepared for the second fight against Jones. In the first two rounds, he gave Jones problems with his aggressive pressure on the inside, even knocking out Jones' mouthpiece with uppercuts in the early going, as UFC Canada showed:

A much more confident, relaxed DC had it looking like this fight was headed toward another five-round brawl. Josh Gross ofThe Guardianhad the score in favor of Cormier in both of the first two rounds:

However, Jones showed he can change the complexion of a fight in just one strike. Though one-strike power is rare from him, the left high kick he landed as Cormier ducked his head was showcased in the UFC's congratulatory tweet:

The kick stymied Cormier and sent him across the cage searching for consciousness. Jones, who was ready to take his division back, met him instead.

After the fight, Jones was complimentary of his longtime rival, potentially closing the door on this series for good while calling out another potential opponent in Brock Lesnar:

Overall, it was an excellent ending to a great night of fights. The stacked card lived up to the potential in many ways, including the coronation of Cris Cyborg and a great welterweight collision between Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone.

Here's a look at all the results, along with a closer look at each of the main card bouts.

Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia

If Tyron Woodley was hoping this would be the title defense that would turn him into a fan favorite, he has to be disappointed. The champion successfully defended his title in an oddly lopsided decision, though.

Maia's attempt to take the title looked a lot like his bizarre performance against Anderson Silva seven years ago. The dangerous jiu-jitsu practitioner looked for takedown after takedown, but forcing the matter was Plan A, B, C and D for the 39-year-old.

The problem was the Brazilian didn't land a single one.

Essentially, the fight looked a lot like this highlight posted by the UFCfor five rounds:

Woodley did land an overhand right that floored the challenger in the second round, but that excitement was short-lived.

Overall, Woodley was put in a bad position. Maia is such a dangerous opponent on the ground that Woodley had to go to great lengths not to let the fight go there, yet Maia refused to engage in the striking department.

It wasn't his most impressive performance, but Woodley did what he had to do in winning the bout on points. After the fight, the champion was ready to move on to a date with Georges St-Pierre later this year, per Mike Dyce of Sports Illustrated:

Cris Cyborg vs. Tonya Evinger

The Cyborg era has officially started in the UFC. The longtime Strikeforce and Invicta star became a UFC champion with her third-round TKO of Tonya Evinger.

The fight played out just about like any other Cyborg fight, with the exception of the timetable. Where most mortals get put away by Cyborg's overwhelming speed and power in the first round, Evinger was able to move, clinch and tough her way through two frames before meeting her demise.

The UFC provided a good example of the average Cyborg offensive in this fight:

Evinger gets credit for extending this matchup with her toughness and movement. It does nothing to damage the stock of Cyborg, though, as she's been the most dominant force in women's MMA for years.

This result just opens the door to many more intriguing matchups for the new champion in the relatively new division. Damon Martin of UFC.com said what had to be on a lot of fans' minds:

Whether it's Holly Holm, Germaine de Randamie or Ronda Rousey, Cyborg established that she's the kind of fighter fans will want to tune in to see because there's going to be action.

This was just the beginning of what's sure to be an interesting championship campaign.

Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler

This fight promised violence, and it delivered. Lawler and Cerrone might not be as sharp as they once were, but they're still two of their division's best action fighters, and they didn't disappoint here.

Lawler appeared ready to put the fight away early. He swarmed Cerrone in Round 1 and looked like he was going to be able to hand Cowboy a quick loss. The UFC provided the highlight:

Taking damage early and coming back to win isn't a foreign concept to Cerrone. He's been there before, and he proved he can still go there when necessary. By the end of the first frame he was firing back at Lawler:

The second round was clearly a five-minute stretch in Cerrone's favor. The Cowboy put together impressive kickboxing combinations, while Lawler's output was significantly slowed.

That set up a third round before which each fighter clearly had one frame. Both worked hard to take the fight, but Lawler landed the cleaner, more powerful shots, while Cerrone went for volume. The effective striking was why Patrick Wyman ofThe Washington Post scored the round for Ruthless:

This was a fun bout that proved both fighters are still capable of putting on entertaining shows for the fans. Lawler might not be ready to jump back in the title picture, but he can still put together awesome scraps.

Jimi Manuwa vs. Volkan Oezdemir

Jimi Manuwa was put on this card as insurance if anything were to happen with Jones or Cormier. That's as close as anyone can be to a title shot without actually having one.

It's safe to say UFC 214 significantly hurt his stock. Volkan Oezdemir quickly put an end to any thoughts of Manuwa's being the next contender in the light heavyweight division. As ESPN Stats & Info noted, it's becoming a bit of a trend:

The fight only lasted 42 seconds, so there isn't much to analyze other than the fact that the beating started with Oezdemir backed up by Manuwa against the fence. The fact that the Swiss fighter can turn that position into a knockout win speaks volumes about the 27-year-old's potential.

No Time came into this bout ranked fifth in the division. He's only three fights into his UFC career, but a win like this could put him on the fast track to the title. He even called out the winner of the Jones-Cormier main event, per MMA Fighting:

That's probably wishful thinking at this point. He needs at least one more fight to both build more name recognition and gain some fight experience before getting the opportunity to win a belt.

But he should be the favorite for the first time in his UFC career next time he puts the gloves on.

CYBORG vs EVINGER – UFC

CYBORG vs EVINGER

A new UFC womens featherweight champion was crowned on the UFC 214 card at Honda Center in Anaheim Saturday, as Cris Cyborg stopped Tonya Evinger in the third round.

The title makes it a triple crown for the 32-year-old Curitiba native, who was formerly the Strikeforce and Invicta FC featherweight champion.

A lot of things happened in my career, but before I was just crazy inside the cage, said Cyborg, now 18-1 with 1 NC. Now Im learning fighting. I have calmed down, I see a nice shot, I throw the shot. And Im really happy to be a world champ. This is the perfect time because I think Im at the top of my career.

Cyborg dropped Evinger (19-6, 1 NC) with the first left hook she threw, but Triple Threat rose immediately. In a subsequent clinch, Evinger pulled guard, but Cyborg wasnt playing that game and she rose to her feet before letting loose with punches to the head. Evinger did get a quick takedown midway through the round, only to see Cyborg jump to her feet again. The action came to a brief halt after an inadvertent eye poke by Evinger, and when the action resumed, Cyborg scored with a hard knee to the body. Evinger was hanging tough, though, even as she took Cyborgs thunder.

RELATED: Lawler bests Cerrone| Lawler Backstage Interview|UFC 214 Prelim Results

Evingers toughness was the story of round two, as she stayed in with the hard-hitting Brazilian, even though Cyborg completely dominated the frame.

A right hand followed by a kick to the head rocked Evinger, but she shook it off until a follow-up shot put her on the deck briefly. The Texan got back to her feet, but her offense was having no effect on Cyborg, who ultimately landed the finisher a left knee to the head that put Evinger on the deck, with a single right hand bringing in referee Mike Beltran to halt the fight at 1:56 of round three.

The 145-pound belt was left vacant when champion Germaine de Randamie was unwilling to fight Cyborg.

League Casters Compare Future Of Healthcare To Death By Cyborg Man-Crab – Kotaku Australia

The uncertain future of the American health care system, or being ground to death by a giant cyborg?

In a talk show-stylesegment that aired between games one and two of TSM vs. FlyQuest in today's League Championship Series matches, Josh "Jatt" Leesman and Sam "Kobe" Hartman-Kenzler debated which is more terrifying: the League of Legends champion Urgot's newly reworked ultimate, or the future of American healthcare. (The segment was recorded and published to YouTube two days prior to airing on the LCS stream.)

For reference, the Urgot ultimate launches a hook into enemies, which tethers them to the horrific melding of man and machine. If the enemy's health drops below a certain threshold, Urgot drags them in, shoots them in the face and grinds them up in his ab-gears.

American healthcare, meanwhile, has had millions of Americans on the edge of their seat, wondering if their current plans will still be effective the next day.

The segment is meant to be lighthearted, so Kobe and Jatt debate the two with a comedic back-and-forth. Both seem to land on the Urgot ultimate, one claiming that by definition, it's more terrifying (a successful Urgot ultimate applies a "fear" effect to nearby enemies).

A few responses on social media noted the strange jump from League analysis into politics, though This Or That has certainly never shied away from riffing on controversial subjects.

There’s a way Tonya Evinger can pull off an all-time upset of ‘Cyborg’ at UFC 214 – MMAjunkie.com

Three titles are on the line tonight at UFC 214, and when it comes to the odds, a couple are reasonably close, and the thirds a blowout.

Tonya Evinger (19-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is a massive underdog against Cristiane Justino (17-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) when they fight for the vacant womens featherweight title, the first championship bout of the night at UFC 214. The event takes place at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FXX and UFC Fight Pass.

Cyborg is as much as a 13-1 favorite over Evinger, and that number is high for a few reasons. For starters, Justino is a featherweight, and Evinger is moving up from bantamweight for the opportunity. Both are former Invicta FC champions. But Evinger also is taking the fight on relatively short notice after Megan Anderson dropped out.

Justino has blitzed through most of the opposition in her career. And she widely is expected to do the same to the reasonably unheralded Evinger.

But UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby believes theres a way Evinger could pull off a stunner.

I think Tonya Evinger is probably the best fighter youve never heard of, Shelby said as part of the UFCs Watch List video for UFC 214. (Shes) just an uber-talent on the ground. And I think if you fight Cris Cyborg, if theres anywhere shes to be beaten, I think the best chance is on the ground and thats what Evinger does best.

She is a phenomenal grappler. She has an incredible win streak, an incredible career, so much experience it will be really interesting to see if she can go in there and get Cyborg to the ground. I mean, nobodys going to stand there with Cris, right? Lets be serious.

Can Evinger get Cyborg to the ground, out of her striking comfort zone, and pull off the upset? Well find out tonight.

Also on the main card, Shelby and fellow matchmaker Mick Maynard discuss with broadcaster Jon Anik light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier (19-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) and his rematch with Jon Jones (22-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC) in the main event, plus welterweight champ Tyron Woodley (17-3-1 MMA, 7-2-1 UFC) and his title fight against Demian Maia (25-6 MMA, 19-6 UFC).

The gentlemen also break down Donald Cerrone (32-7 MMA, 19-4 UFC) vs. former welterweight champ Robbie Lawler (27-11 MMA, 12-5 UFC), and top light heavyweight contender Jimi Manuwa (17-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) vs. Volkan Oezdemir (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) on the main card. Plus, they look at the featured preliminary card featherweight bout between Jason Knight (17-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and Ricardo Lamas (17-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC).

UFC 214 fight card, odds, prelims: Jones, Woodley, Cyborg all large favorites – CBSSports.com

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier are expected to put on a show Saturday night in Anaheim, California. Assuming both fighters make it to the main event for UFC 214, we should be able to settle in for one of the best grudge matches of all time when these two light heavyweights clash for the belt. After earning a decisive unanimous decision in their first go-round, Jones has been installed as a prohibitive favorite over the champion Cormier.

Here's how the rest of the card shakes with the latest odds from Bovada.

Jon Jones -270

Daniel Cormier (c) +210

Light heavyweight title

Tyron Woodley (c) -205

Demian Maia +165

Welterweight title

Cris Cyborg -1100

Tonya Evinger +650

Women's featherweight title

Robbie Lawler -160

Donald Cerrone +130

Welterweight

Jimi Manuwa -185

Volkan Oezdemir +150

Light heavyweight

Jason Knight -125

Ricardo Lamas -105

Featherweight

Aljamain Sterling -145

Renan Barao +115

Catchweight (140 pounds)

Renato Moicano -180

Brian Ortega +150

Featherweight

Andre Fili -400

Calvin Kattar +300

Featherweight

Alexandra Albu -160

Kailin Curran +130

Women's bantamweight

Drew Dober -315

After a six-fight stretch of being the betting underdog in his fights, welterweight champ Tyron Woodley will be a sizable favorite over Demian Maia when they square off in the co-main event. Former Invicta champ Cris "Cyborg" Justino will be a huge favorite over Invicta's current 135-pound champ Tonya Evinger when they battle for the 145-pound strap.

The closest odds on the main card will be the welterweight slugfest between Robbie Lawler and Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. For my money, I'd take a flier on Volkan Oezdemir when he squares off with Jimi Manuwa. Oezdemir is coming off a first-round knockout win and his 14-1 in his pro MMA career. He's getting good value against the British 205-pounder looking to get into title contention.

‘First human cyborg’ sucker-punched in subway station – New York Post

An epileptic Bronx woman dubbed one of the first human cyborgs was sucker-punched Wednesday morning as she was exiting a Midtown subway station, police sources said Thursday.

The victim, Emily Borghard, 28, had just gotten off the 7 train at the Grand Central-42nd Street subway station and took the escalator to the mezzanine level when she was socked in the left side of her face by 28-year-old career criminal Deaja Hardy at around 6:05 a.m., sources said.

Borghard, who suffered redness and swelling to her face from the blow, quickly flagged down transit officers who arrested Hardy at the scene.

With what Ive been through getting hit in the face is not a good thing, Borghard, a member of the famed subway vigilante group The Guardian Angels, told The Post Wednesday.

Borghard has a computer chip implanted in her brain as a means to prevent chronic seizures, making her one of the first human cyborgs, according to the Wall Street Journal.

During the time that Borghard went undiagnosed, she suffered hundreds of seizures a day.

I was not functioning. I could not recall day to day events and every time I had an episode it was like getting hit in the head with a baseball batmy memory of it was gone, Borghard told Readers Digest in an interview last month.

Borghard had her first terrifying experience with a seizure in 2005 when one occurred while she was driving a car, causing her to drive off the road and plunge into a creek in upstate New York where she grew up.

I was lucky that someone saw it happen because if not, they might not have known I was in the creek, Borghard told Readers Digest.

Borghard says she has no memory of the event and only knows what happened through police reports and what she has been told.

Doctors eventually planted the neuro-stimulating chip inside her head and today shes nearly seizure-free.

It gives it a little zap to the brain to get it to stop what its doing and shock it back into normal rhythm, Borghard told the Wall Street Journal in a podcast interview in May.

If you would have asked me if any of this would have been possible I would have laughed, Borghard told the Wall Street Journal.

Despite her condition, Borghard refused medical treatment at the scene of Wednesdays assault, according to police.

Hardy, her attacker, has 22 prior arrests on his record, including one on Feb. 21, 2013 for assaulting a 75-year-old man in Midtown while the victim was eating breakfast, sources said.

In that instance, Hardy whacked the elderly man in the head multiple times with the victims own set of keys at an office building on West 37th Street when Hardy entered the building and was told he couldnt come in, sources said.

The 75-year-old man suffered a laceration to his head.

At Hardys Manhattan Criminal Court arraignment for the attack on Borghard, he was released without bail.

His next court date is on Sept. 11.

League Casters Compare Future Of Healthcare To Death By Cyborg Man-Crab – Kotaku

The uncertain future of our nations health care system, or being ground to death by a giant cyborg?

In a talk show-stylesegment that aired between games one and two of TSM vs. FlyQuest in todays League Championship Series matches, Josh Jatt Leesman and Sam Kobe Hartman-Kenzler debated which is more terrifying: the League of Legends champion Urgots newly reworked ultimate, or the future of American healthcare. (The segment was recorded and published to YouTube two days prior to airing on the LCS stream.)

For reference, the Urgot ultimate launches a hook into enemies, which tethers them to the horrific melding of man and machine. If the enemys health drops below a certain threshold, Urgot drags them in, shoots them in the face and grinds them up in his ab-gears.

American healthcare, meanwhile, has had millions of Americans on the edge of their seat, wondering if their current plans will still be effective the next day.

On Thursday afternoon, the Senate is expected to vote on whats been dubbed the skinny repeal, a

The segment is meant to be lighthearted, so Kobe and Jatt debate the two with a comedic back-and-forth. Both seem to land on the Urgot ultimate, one claiming that by definition, its more terrifying (a successful Urgot ultimate applies a fear effect to nearby enemies).

A few responses on social media noted the strange jump from League analysis into politics, though This Or That has certainly never shied away from riffing on controversial subjects.

So, this or that?

Cris Cyborg doesn’t think Ronda Rousey beef was personal, willing to talk to her – MMA Fighting

LA MIRADA, Calif. Dana White and Cris Cyborg seem to have reconciled. Could the Cyborg-Ronda Rousey beef be squashed someday, too?

Theres a possibility, Cyborg seemed to intimate Thursday at UFC 214 open workouts at UFC Gym.

We can talk, I never met her before, Cyborg said. But I think she did great things for womens MMA. She said a lot of things about me, but I think she used that time for growing her. I think she used it like a business. I think its nothing personal, because I never met her. We dont know each other. Nothing. I dont have anything against her.

Rousey and Cyborg had one of the more heated rivalries in MMA for years, but it has subsided recently, especially in Rouseys absence from the sport. Rousey went as far as once calling Cyborg an it, because of her past steroid use. Cyborg slammed Rousey for putting a pillow over her head in the Los Angeles airport after her knockout loss to Holly Holm in 2015.

The two went back and forth and both made ugly comments about each other, going back to their days in Strikeforce. Many fans and pundits thought a fight between the two best female fighters in the world would one day happen, but it never did and probably never will. Cyborg cannot make womens bantamweight, Rouseys division in the UFC, in a healthy manner and Rousey will likely never fight again. Even if Rousey did, who knows if shed go to 145 or 140 for a Cyborg fight after two straight knockout losses.

For a time, Rousey vs. Cyborg was the biggest fight the UFC could put on. But even White has acknowledged publicly that Rousey will likely retire after a first-round KO loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in December.

Rousey is the former Strikeforce and UFC womens bantamweight, who has successfully crossed over to Hollywood with multiple movie and television roles. Rowdy was once the biggest name in MMA history and the highest paid fighter in the UFC. Since her loss to Holm, though, she has not been as visible in the MMA world and would not do any MMA-centric media leading into UFC 207.

Cyborg, meanwhile, is in the UFC and finally fighting for a title at 145 pounds. Shell meet Tonya Evinger for the featherweight belt at UFC 214 on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif. Cyborg, 32, has been a pro fighter since 2005 and this will be her first shot at gold at the highest level. Cyborg has knocked out every opponent since 2008 and has not lost a bout since her MMA debut.

Last month, White admitted in an interview with MMAjunkie that he and the UFC made mistakes in dealing with Cyborg. White and Cyborg have had a rocky relationship for years, but Cyborg said shes willing to forgive him.

Its really nice when someone says they did a mistake and say that, Cyborg said Thursday. A lot of people dont say anything. I respect that. I think I can forgive him, but there are consequences he cannot delete.

I have a lot of things that people say about me on the internet. I have bad things that I dont want to remember now. Its hard to delete.

Cyborg (17-1, 1 NC) said shes operating under the assumption that Rousey was just talking trash to promote herself and didnt actually mean all the things she said. Rousey, for a long time, harped on Cyborgs past drug-test failure.

Now, it seems as if its water under the bridge. Cyborg even said shed be willing to sit down with Rousey and talk and she made it clear that she respects what she has done for the sport.

Maybe one day, she said.

Weekend Fight Odds: Jones, Woodley, 'Cyborg' Favored at UFC 214 - Sherdog.com

UFC 214 Cheat Sheet: Cris Cyborg vs. Tonya Evinger – ESPN (blog)

The rematch. Finally.

The UFC has booked Jon Jones versus Daniel Cormier for the light heavyweight championship on five separate occasions. Yet, they've only fought once.

This has been a snakebitten matchup for the UFC, with multiple dates falling through for various reasons -- but at UFC 214 inside Anaheim's Honda Center, we'll finally see it for the second time.

Jones has fought once in the last two years, due to a failed drug test and legal issues. Cormier is the reigning champion, but 0-1 in his rivalry with Jones.

This UFC 214 event features two additional title fights. Cris "Cyborg" Justino meets Tonya Evinger for the vacant featherweight title and Tyron Woodley looks to defend his welterweight strap over Demian Maia.

Here's everything you need to know about UFC 214, courtesy of ESPN's Cheat Sheets.

Odds: Justino -1375; Evinger +900

At this point in Justino's 12-year professional mixed martial arts career, it's no secret who she is or what she brings to the table.

Although her outsized sense of pride has undeniably led to trouble, it has also led her to the threshold of her biggest fight yet: a would-be UFC champion, a dozen years into her career, fighting for the title she has always wanted.

A look at Cristiane 'Cyborg' Justino's preparation for UFC 214.

Everything you need to know about UFC 214, which takes place Saturday, July 29, in Anaheim, headlined by a light heavyweight championship fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier.

Justino is the most dominant female featherweight of all time. Undefeated since November 2005, with nine first-round knockouts. She's a human highlight reel, and the sole reason the UFC opened a 145-pound weight class for females this year.

She's also very, very difficult to find an opponent for.

"All my career, I've had problems finding opponents," Justino told ESPN. "Even when I was starting my career in Brazil, when I was 20 years old, it was hard. My focus has always had to be just train, and know the promoter would find me a fight."

As much cause as there is for celebration that the UFC abandoned its unreasonable demands that Justino cut to 135 pounds this year, her future with the promotion remains uncertain. The UFC has yet to truly throw its full support behind the 145-pound division, which is unquestionably thin in talent.

The rollout of the new weight class has been a complete disaster. Amsterdam's Germaine de Randamie won the inaugural title by defeating Holly Holm in February. De Randamie refused to face Justino, however, because Justino tested positive for a steroid in 2011. The UFC was ultimately forced to strip de Randamie of the belt. Both she and Holm have returned to bantamweight.

"Before she fought for the belt, she knew she had a fight coming with me," said Justino, on de Randamie. "She made excuses, talking about a hurt hand and calling me a cheater. It was embarrassing. You gave up your belt because you're scared? I thought it was embarrassing for all the fighters."

It was arguably embarrassing for the UFC as well, and highlights the very real difficulty of booking Justino, who now fights out of California, an opponent.

What effect that will have on her and this division in the UFC, might take even longer than Saturday to find out.

"I think it's getting better," Justino said on her relationship with the UFC. "We have to start working together, for both sides to be happy. I'll make them happy on Saturday in the Octagon, for sure."

When Evinger was young, she'd trade away toys in exchange for fistfights.

Evinger, 36, has been in constant search of a fight, from a very young age. She grew up with two younger brothers, who made for natural dance partners -- but it usually took some coaxing to get them to agree.

"I used to bribe my brothers with toys. 'Hey, I'll give you my remote control if you box me for 10 minutes,'" Evinger said. "I'd end up doing something stupid, hitting them too hard and hurting them, and I'd be like, 'Damn it, I didn't even get to go for a minute.'

"I just loved it. It started young, young, young. I used to have to beat up the neighbor kids because they'd beat up my brothers and my dad would threaten me. I would have to go knock on their door, 'Hey, can you come out and play,' and end up whooping their ass. It's just one of those things, that's what you do when you grow up in the country. You fight."

Those early fights never stopped for Evinger. She wrestled in high school and college, and began fighting professionally in 2006. She's fought for a long list of promotions and is the current Invicta bantamweight champion.

She's eyed a roster spot in the UFC for years, but was denied until this fight was announced last month. Evinger says she reached a point where she knew her ticket to the UFC would likely be accepting a Justino bout.

"I don't think it's anything that's unknown," said Evinger, on Justino's destructive first-round rsum. "I've seen her fight a bunch of times and she's probably seen me fight a bunch of times. I know she's going to come out swinging.

"I'm a really smart fighter and I think I'm going to keep from getting the s--- beat out of me. I don't go in there to get the s--- beat out of me, I go in to win fights. I'm prepared for wherever it goes."

If there was ever a time Justino may have been vulnerable, perhaps it was her last two fights. The strain on her body to make 140 pounds, who knows how that would have affected her late in a fight?

That's no longer an issue, though. And at 145 pounds, Justino holds sizable advantages over any opponent she'll face. Case in point: Evinger -- who fights at 135 pounds and will return to doing so, if she's unsuccessful this weekend.

When most people think of Justino, they probably think of the Berserker Cyborg flurry. Those outbursts she lays on opponents near the end of the fight, which can look more physically overwhelming than technically beautiful. But the scary reality is that Justino has been a very efficient striker as of late, landing 66 percent of her strikes in two UFC fights. That's a credit to her and veteran striking coach Jason Parillo.

Evinger is a very good bantamweight, who probably deserved a shot in the UFC well before now. But on paper, she doesn't have many clear paths to victory here. Her skill set is built over a wrestling base, which she honed all the way through a collegiate wrestling career. But as the undersized, less explosive athlete in this matchup, envisioning her taking Justino down and beating her up on the floor requires some imagination.

It's difficult to break this down without seemingly snubbing your nose at Evinger's skills. She's very good from the clinch. She manipulates opponents well from there, and frequently scores with trips. She welcomes a fight and her experience is obvious when it comes to winning key moments, directing traffic as to where the bout goes, plus a calm demeanor. She also has a long reach, which has benefited her at times at 135.

But as successful as Evinger is in the clinch, Justino is an absolute nightmare there. Her physical strength dictates everything that happens at that range, and she's great at peeling off, taking a step back and unloading punches that, as we all know, do serious damage. Her pocket presence is arguably the best in female MMA. Everything Evinger does well, Justino is well suited to counter.

And on top of all that, she has a great chin, which she proved in a five-round Muay Thai bout in 2014, when her MMA career was temporarily stalled.

Evinger is a fighter's fighter, meaning she's good in the trenches and hard to put away. But if she is to survive Justino's onslaught and give us a peek at later rounds, those are some deep trenches she'll have to navigate.

Prediction: Justino, first-round TKO

Curran, who is 1-4 in her three years in the UFC, has her lone victory over Emily Kagan sandwiched between a pair of two fight losing streaks.

However, Curran has shown flashes of brilliance in her time in the octagon, making her a popular +135 underdog pick this weekend.

History

Cyborg

Vic Stone was the son of a pair of scientists who decided to use him as a test subject for various intelligence enhancement projects. However, Victor grew to resent this treatment and fell in with a young miscreant named Ron Evers who led him into trouble with the law. This was the beginning of a struggle where Victor strove for his own life engaging in pursuits his parents disapproved of such as athletics. In addition, Victor still kept bad company that led him into incidents such as when he was talked into participating in a street gang fight in which he was wounded. For the most part however, Victor still had a largely normal life under the circumstances where he also refused to follow his best friend's grandiose plans of racially motivated terrorism.

All that changed one day when he visited his parents at work at S.T.A.R. Labs. Coincidentally, an experiment in dimensional travel went horribly awry when a massive gelatinous monster crossed over an experimental portal and killed Victor's mother. The creature then turned on Victor and severely mutilated him before his father managed to force the creature back through the portal. To save his son, Victor's father outfitted him with experimental prosthetics of his own design. However, the equipment could not be worn inconspicuously, and thus Victor was horrified to see much of his body, including part of his face, replaced with sheer metallic limbs and implants. Although Victor wanted to die at this shock, he adjusted enough through his resulting physical therapy to control his implants with suitable skill.

Upon release from medical care, he found his life was seriously inconvenienced with the fearful reactions of the public at his implants; even his girlfriend rejected him. In addition, he was also disallowed his participation in athletics not only for his implants but for his poor grades which were further exacerbated by his long convalescence. However, when his old friend attempted to use Victor's troubles to manipulate him into attempting a terrorist attack on the United Nations, Victor found a new purpose as he equipped his weapons attachments and stopped his friend in a pitched battle on the UN building.

He joined the Teen Titans, initially for the benefit of a support group of kindred spirits and freaks and has remained with that group ever since. In addition, Victor found new friends who saw past his disfigurements to his own nobility such as a group of children who were adjusting to their own prosthetics and idolized Victor with his fancy parts and exciting adventures as well as their beautiful therapist who took a shine to him herself.

Throughout his association with the Titans, Victor has been destroyed, reconstructed, assimilated by an alien race, and had his humanity restored. He later went on to mentor a new Teen Titans group, consisting mainly of sidekicks, most of whom have taken over the secret identities of former members (i.e. Tim Drake, the third Robin, instead of Dick Grayson, the original Robin and Titans leader), as well as stalwarts such as Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy, where they have fought enemies such as Deathstroke, Doctor Light, The Titans of Tomorrow and Superboy and Indigo during the Insiders storyline with a team up with the Outsiders.

During Infinite Crisis, Cyborg joined Donna's New Cronus Team that went to investigate a hole in the universe that was discovered during the Rann-Thanagar War. He left Beast Boy in charge of the Titans while he was gone. They arrived at the re-set center of the universe and with the help of assorted heroes, aided in the defeat of Alexander Luthor, Jr., who was attempting to re-create the Multiverse and build a perfect Earth from it.

Cyborg was fused together with Firestorm after returning to Earth. This was caused by the energy ripples caused by Alexander Luthor Jr. which altered the Zeta Ray Beams the heroes were going to use to return home.

After being severely damaged during the events of Infinite Crisis, Cyborg was rebuilt over time in thanks to Tower caretakers Wendy and Marvin. He awoke one year later to find a wholly different group of Titans led by Robin, the only member from the team he formed prior to going into space. Cyborg felt that members such as Kid Devil and Ravager were hardly worthy of being Titans, and thus was attempting to find a way to re-form "the real Titans".

After the team along with the Doom Patrol defeated the Brotherhood of Evil, Cyborg asked Beast Boy to rejoin the Titans, but Gar refused saying that his skills were needed with the Patrol. After returning to Titans Tower, Cyborg began reviewing the security tapes during the last year, in which it appears that he was looked to by all the Titans of the past year for a shoulder to lean on, despite being in a coma-like state.

Although Cyborg did retain the position of statesman amongst the Teen Titans and occasionally played second-in-command to Robin's lead, he no longer operated as a Titan in any official capacity.

Shortly thereafter, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman agreed that Cyborg should be offered membership in the new Justice League. However, following a battle against Amazo, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and Black Canary took over the formation of the JLA, and Cyborg was not included amongst the roster.

Cyborg began putting together a new branch of Titans East which consisted of Anima, Dove, Hawk, Lagoon Boy, Little Barda and Power Boy. During a training exercise, the team was attacked by an unknown foe and Cyborg was severely injured. This incident inspires the original members of the "New" Teen Titans to regroup and investigate the situation.

Omegadrome Cybernetics: Cyborg possesses cybernetic enhancements that provide superhuman strength, endurance and durability. Cyborg can also interface with computers. Built into his body-armor were an infrared eye, computer generator, sound amplifier, and special programming adapters that allowed him to interface with other body extensions. Integrated into Cyborg he still controls the Omegadrome, which can morph into different shapes and constructs permitting the following abilities:

Cyborg in the animated series, Teen Titans

Cyborg was one of the primary characters featured in the Teen Titans animated series where he was voiced by actor Khary Payton. The animated version of Cyborg was very similar to his comic book counterpart. The two main differences are his appearance and that he is noticeably less serious as the show normally had a much lighter tone than the comics. His head was considerably more rounded, and his mechanical parts were bulkier, but not overwhelming.

Like most of his teammates, he's never referred to by his real name throughout the course of the series. However he does take the alias "Stone" in the Season Three episode "Deception". He was known to have a love of video games and was often seen battling Robin or Beast Boy in either a fighting or racing game. Cyborg also had a big crush on the H.I.V.E.'s Jinx, and later had a brief relationship with Sarasim, a warrior from the distant past. A former athlete (just like in the comics), his victories were often accompanied by a resounding "BOO-YAH!". Brother Blood acted as his nemesis in Season Three. In episode 29, he becomes obsessed with catching the criminal Billy Numerous after the criminal's escape. He does manage to catch the criminal later, using special holographic technology to fool the villain.

His abilities/offensive attacks included two Sonic Cannons (one in each arm), a smaller sonic blaster located in his left foot, two sets of missile launchers (one in each shoulder), super-strength, high-end sensor and communication technology, and could also produce several different tools (a saw, a welding torch, a buffer, etc.) from his arms. At one point, he installed a super-processor chip called the Maximum-7 to further increase his abilities, but an overload forced Robin to remove it.
