Tasman's Kaiteriteri beach has shot to the top of the leaderboard in a national vote on New Zealanders' favourite beach.
The golden-sanded seashore has nearly twice as many votes as its nearest contender, Mount Maunganui, on the site bestbeaches.org.nz
It's a vote being run by the Green Party in an effort to highlight what it believes is under threat from oil drilling.
MP Gareth Hughes says as people head off to the beaches to enjoy themselves, they need to remember there's a looming risk.
"All of our beaches could be impacted by a catastrophic oil spill, and that's what we;re raising awareness of."
Kaiteriteri Beach Motorcamp manager Paul Lovell says it's a beautiful flat beach, with very safe swimming.
He adds that whether it's waterskiing, boating or kayaking, there is always something going on.
Paul Lovell says 2500 campers are booked to arrive today and tomorrow.
He adds it's not just the camp that's busy - thousands of people are coming through every day on their way to the National Park.

J in Newfoundland: Island Hiking Adventure
We travel by boat to a small island off Newfoundland, hike cliffs and mountains, venture through an abandoned mine, trek across Cape Spear (the most easterly point in North America), and relax through Bowring Park and the sandy beaches of Northern Bay Sands. I met J when he was just 11. I worked with his Mom, and we all became fast friends. They were nice enough to keep my cat Joey whenever I needed. Of course Joey and J became best buds. After I moved to Newfoundland, it gave J an amazing place to visit for vacation. This is J #39;s second visit; this is the summer travel movie of our adventures, for J, his Mom, and our friends. - - - - I #39;m a hobbyist songwriter, so I undertook writing the music as a personal challenge. A “super rare” ginkgo-toothed beaked whale (Mesoplodon ginkgodens) beached in Maco, Compostela Valley, on Wednesday but later died due to its failure to digest garbage and other debris it had eaten, a conservationist here said on Saturday.

Panaji, Dec 21 (IANS) Goa's erosion-affected beaches are in for good news. Union Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi has allotted Rs.50 crore for fighting the problem at its prime beaches, which are gradually being submerged, reportedly due to global warming and tourism overkill.
"Chiranjeevi has allotted Rs.50 crore to the Goa tourism ministry to save Goa's beaches from erosion," state Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar told reporters here Friday.
Erosion has emerged as a major threat for Goa, which largely depends on tourism as a major source for government revenue.
The state sees over 2.6 million tourists visiting the state annually, but the same tourism as well as global warming has been triggering ruin as far as beaches are concerned.
A report by the state water resources department, says "disturbance of sand accretion and beach degeneration" caused by the movement of hundreds of thousands of tourists on Goa's beaches was one of the causes of erosion.
The other cause which has been spelled out is global warming.
Government data suggests that over 25 percent of Goa's coastline is already under threat of erosion. The water resources department, which has been entrusted with the task of restoring the eroding beaches, claims that erosion was a global phenomenon and that it was doing the best to arrest the sand slide.
