Precession of the Holy Cross. – Video

Precession of the Holy Cross.
"In astronomy, axial precession is a gravity-induced, slow and continuous change in the orientation of an astronomical body #39;s rotational axis. In particular, it refers to the gradual shift in the orientation of Earth #39;s axis of rotation, which, like a wobbling top, traces out a pair of cones joined at their apices in a cycle of approximately 26000 years (called a Great or Platonic Year in astrology). The term "precession" typically refers only to this largest secular motion; other changes in the alignment of Earth #39;s axis mdash; nutation and polar motion mdash; are much smaller in magnitude. Earth #39;s precession was historically called precession of the equinoxes because the equinoxes moved westward along the ecliptic relative to the fixed stars, opposite to the motion of the Sun along the ecliptic. This term is still used in non-technical discussions, that is, when detailed mathematics are absent. Historically, Hipparchus is credited with discovering precession of the equinoxes. The exact dates of his life are not known, but astronomical observations attributed to him by Ptolemy date from 147 BC to 127 BC. With improvements in the ability to calculate the gravitational force between planets during the first half of the 19th century, it was recognized that the ecliptic itself moved slightly, which was named planetary precession as early as 1863, while the dominant component was named lunisolar precession. Their combination was named general precession instead of precession of the ...From:Puff29646Views:0 0ratingsTime:00:21More inScience Technology

To order a copy of this video, please visit tmwmedia.com The Atacama large Millimeter/Sub-millimeter Array, or ALMA, is a vast array of radio telescopes and the most powerful observatory of its kind. ALMA is stationed in the Atacama Desert of Chile which is one of the worlds best sites for observational astronomy because of the high altitude, nearly non-existent cloud cover, dry air and lack of light pollution and radio interference due to the small populations. ALMA peers into previously hidden regions of space with unprecedented sharpness and sensitivity.From:TMWMediaViews:0 0ratingsTime:03:10More inEducation

Sir Patrick Moore (1923-2012) – Video

Sir Patrick Moore (1923-2012)
Sir Patrick Alfred Caldwell-Moore, CBE, FRS, FRAS (4th March 1923 - 9th December 2012) was an English amateur astronomer who attained prominent status in that field as a writer, researcher, radio commentator and television presenter. Moore was a former president of the British Astronomical Association, co-founder and former president of the Society for Popular Astronomy (SPA), author of over 70 books on astronomy, and presenter of the world #39;s longest-running television series with the same original presenter, The Sky at Night on the BBC. As an amateur astronomer, he became known as a specialist on observing the Moon and creating the Caldwell catalogue. Idiosyncrasies such as his rapid diction and monocle made him a popular and instantly recognisable figure on British television.From:plagalcadenzeViews:15 1ratingsTime:05:22More inNews Politics

The Precession Of The Equinoxes..... Anybody who figures out that the Earth #39;s Axis precesses once every twentyone a half thousand years, using Naked-Eye Astronomy ; is really hard to entirely ignore, when they appear to say that the World is about to abruptly suddenly change... When their Prediction suggests a point in time when Human Civilisation appears to have chosen the Malthusian Lemming Option....; then, hang on to your Hats. "Head For The Hills", is the Traditional Suggestion, but perhaps it #39;ll work out better to hunker down, and try not to attract Predators by moving about...
