Would you date a man who wears makeup? Emma Stone says…

The actress weighs in on the booming men's makeup market with TODAY's Professionals, revealing whether she'd date a dude who wears tinted moisturizer.

Makeup for men is one of the hottest trends in the beauty industry. By 2016, the male cosmetics industry for tinted moisturizers, anti-aging creams, concealers, powders will be worth $3.2 billion. But cosmetics for men arent a welcome addition to everyones medicine cabinet.

I dont need much help, proclaimed TODAY's Professionals panelist Donny Deutsch on Tuesday.

Its a turn off for me, responded NBCs chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman.

But "Spiderman" actress Emma Stone was a little more accepting of the trend:

A resounding yes, 100 percent, she told Matt Lauer. You have to wear tinted moisturizer on camera. Weekend wear? I dont know, Ill think about it.

What do you think? Would you date a man who wears cosmetics?

Would you date a guy who uses cosmetics?

Eating placenta, an age-old practice in China

06/27/2012

Shanghai After Wang Lan delivered, she brought home a baby girl and her placenta, which she plans to eat in a soup adopting an age-old practice in Chinese traditional medicine.

The health-giving qualities of placenta are currently creating a buzz in Western countries, where some believe it can help ward off postnatal depression, improve breast milk supply and boost energy levels.

But placentophagy the practice of eating ones placenta after birth is relatively common in China, where it is thought to have anti-aging properties, and dates back more than 2,000 years.

It is in the refrigerator now and I am waiting for my mother to come and cook it to eat. After cleaning, it can be stewed for soup, without that fishy smell, Wang said, adding she believed it would help her recover from delivery.

Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of a unified China, is said to have designated placenta as having health properties some 2,200 years ago, and during Chinas last dynasty, the dowager empress Cixi was said to have eaten it to stay young.

A classic medical text from the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644) said placenta which lines the uterus and is key to the survival of the fetus was heavily nutritious and if taken for the longer term... longevity will be achieved.

Chinas state media says the practice of eating placenta has re-emerged over the past decade. One maternity hospital in the eastern city of Nanjing reported that about 10 percent of new parents took their placenta after childbirth.

Internet postings swap recipes on how to prepare placenta. One popular health Web site suggests soup, dumplings, meat balls or mixing it with other kinds of traditional Chinese medicine.

While trade in the organs has been banned since 2005, pills containing placentas ground into powder are legally available in Chinese pharmacies indicating unwanted placenta is somehow making its way to drug companies.

8 diet and exercise mistakes that age you

Eating too much sugar certainly isnt wise for your waistline, but did you know that overindulging in dessert can add years to your face? And even if you do strenuous cardio workouts each week, youll be missing out on potential anti-aging body benefits if your schedule doesnt include yoga, weight training and rest.

Find out if youre making one of these eight common diet and exercise mistakes, and get smart prevention strategies that can keep you slim and youthful for years to come.

1. You Overdo Dessert

The breakdown of sugars, called glycation, damages the collagen that keeps skin smooth and firm. To prevent this natural process from careening out of control, Dr. Naila Malik, a dermatologist in Southlake, Texas, sticks to low-glycemic carbs like whole grains. Theyre naturally low in sugar, and the body processes them slowly to limit the loss of collagen. If you want to sweeten up your tea or oatmeal without making your skin look older, try all-natural stevia. Its an easily digested herbal sweetener that doesnt trigger glycation, according to board-certified dermatologist Dr. Nicholas Perricone, an adjunct professor of medicine at Michigan State Universitys College of Human Medicine.

2. You Spin Away Stress

Taking your work angst out on the bike or treadmill might make you feel better for a little while, but incorporating yoga into your fitness routine regularly may help you look younger and prevent breakouts while whittling away stress. Sounds like a winning workout to us! Yoga moves like childs pose, downward-facing dog and sun salutations improve circulation the boost of oxygen is what gives skin that lovely yoga glow, says Dr. Hema Sundaram, a Washington, D.C., dermatologist. New research finds regular yoga practice may reduce the inflammation and stress that speed skin aging. If you need another reason to om away your stress: High levels of tension can spike hormone production that leads to breakouts or aggravates conditions like psoriasis. Controlling stress keeps your skin calm, says Dr. Annie Chiu, a dermatologist in Los Angeles.

3. You Always Choose Coffee Over Tea

Research suggests that green and black tea contain protective compounds like EGCG and theaflavins that help prevent skin cancers and the breakdown of collagen, the cause of wrinkles.

4. You Pretend to Be Allergic to Dumbbells

Following a regular strength-training routine that creates better, more supportive muscle tone will help you firm sagging skin from the neck down. I am religious about strength-training, and I always tell patients to do it more as they get older, says Dr. Patricia Farris, a dermatologist in Metairie, La. Its like adding volume to the face with fillers, except on your body, says Farris.

Makucell Unveils Renewnt™, a Revolutionary, Science-driven Skin Care Brand

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. & LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Makucell, Inc., a pioneering regenerative biotechnology company dedicated to the development, manufacture and distribution of non-prescription products formulated to address the impact of aging and photo-damaged skin unveils the Renewnt (pronounced Re-new-int) brand, a revolutionary science-driven product line. Renewnts proprietary ingredient, Asymmtate, is a new approach to cellular aging, optimizing signals in the Wnt (pronounced wint) pathway to energize the skins stem cells, encouraging youthful cell behavior. The result is younger-looking skin which appears firmer and smoother. This molecular process is the key to our proprietary technology developed at USCs Keck School of Medicine and transferred to Makucells Renewnt skin care line.

We conducted standard industry safety tests, and the results were universally positive; Renewnt products were well tolerated with no adverse effects or safety issues. A combination of clinical trials and in vitro gene expression studies from treated biopsied skin continues to corroborate the aesthetic effects noted in the clinic.

The Makucell Science

The bodys signals govern skin stem cells, controlling the decision to remain dormant, divide or differentiate (become normal, active tissue cells). Signals flow in pathways and multiple paths converge into one the Wnt pathway. Makucells proprietary molecule Asymmtate encourages optimal signaling in the Wnt pathway. Optimal signaling stimulates the skin stem cells to begin the process leading to keratinocytes, fibroblasts and other dermal cells which produce collagen, elastic tissue and substances in the supporting skin matrix. This essential regenerative process is the key differentiator in Makucells Renewnt skin care products.

Michael Kahn, Ph.D. and his team of gifted research scientists at the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California developed the revolutionary ingredient, Asymmtate, Makucells core technology. Dr. Mark V. Dahl, Makucell Chief Medical Officer and former President of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as Professor Emeritus at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, developed the formulations designed to target a specific skin type on a particular area of the body. Makucell has tested all the Renewnt products for safety and efficacy. The products:

Makucell is committed to supporting our claims with results from controlled, blinded studies, explains Dr. Dahl. We conducted standard industry safety tests, and the results were universally positive; Renewnt products were well tolerated with no adverse effects or safety issues. A combination of clinical trials and in vitro gene expression studies from treated biopsied skin continues to corroborate the aesthetic effects noted in the clinic.

Dr. Lawrence Rheins, President and Chief Executive Officer of Makucell, commented, Renewnt delivers extraordinary regenerative ability in a hydrating cream, providing an advanced anti-aging option. Asymmtate in Renewnt wakes-up the skins stem cells which have become sluggish with age, to begin rebuilding the underlying supporting skin matrix. As a result, skin looks plumper and has a rejuvenated, youthful appearance.

Makucells current Renewnt skin care product line includes:

Renewnt for Hydration, a day and night facial moisturizer for a more youthful-looking appearance.

Renewnt for Strength, for the dry, thinning skin on hands and forearms to seal in moisture, repair the signs of aging and restore the essential skin barrier.

Get the Most From Your Skin Care Products

Consumers often spend hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars a year on skin care products in an effort to improve the look of their skin. From anti-aging serums to acne medications, many adults and teens regularly apply medications or treatments to their skin. But does the sequence in which skin care products are applied influence how well the products work? Dermatologists say yes.

"Medications or treatments should be applied directly after washing your face," said board-certified dermatologist Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD. "This ensures that the medications or treatments are properly absorbed by the skin. Otherwise, people may think a product isn't working because it's applied in the wrong order."

To maximize the effectiveness of skin care products, Dr. Taylor recommended people take the following steps when caring for their skin:

Wash your face. Use a gentle cleanser and gently pat dry.

Apply medication or treatment. If you are using a medicine or other treatment on your skin, you should apply this right after cleansing unless otherwise recommended by your dermatologist. When applying any cream around your eyes, use your ring finger, as it is the weakest finger and will not pull too hard on this delicate skin.

Apply moisturizer and/or sunscreen. Apply makeup, if desired. "It's important for people to know that using several products at the same time may not only negate the benefits of each product but also irritate the skin," said Dr. Taylor. "Using too many products may cause redness, stinging and dryness of the skin, especially if an anti-aging product is included. The signs of aging may then be more noticeable. A dermatologist can address any questions or concerns that you have about caring for your skin." These steps are demonstrated in "Get the Most from Your Skin Care Products," a video posted to the Academy website and the Academy's YouTube channel. This video is part of the Dermatology A to Z: Video Series, which offers relatable videos that demonstrate tips people can use to properly care for their skin, hair and nails. Stacey Nemour: The Tao of Love, Sex and Anti-Aging: Part 9

Many of us tell ourselves that we will allow ourselves to be happy when:

A. I have X amount of dollars in the bank. B. I meet my true love/soulmate or when my partner finally wakes up and loves me the way he/she ought to. C. When I get a better job. D. When I lose weight.

The list can go on and on.

By focusing only on what we feel is lacking or what we need for our future, we put our present lives on hold or cause more delays because we are not connected to the present. The present is the future; as you read this sentence it is already one second later.

This powerful insight came to me during meditation, and it has created a huge shift in my reality. Each moment is an experience of success, so placing ourselves in the intentional knowing and understanding that we are living in the moment of success creates a continual chain of a successful life.

Doing this places us in a vibrational cycle that causes continuous experience to be a constant reflection of a life of perfection. Instead of meditating we can live the perfection by realizing the journey is the moment of perfection.

Nothing needs to happen in order for me to feel successful; I am successful right now. Nothing needs to happen in order for me to feel loved; I am loved right now. Nothing needs to happen in order to feel valid; I am valid right now.

To support a positive shift within and create harmonious relationships in personal and professional affairs:

1. Find the peaceful place inside now by not placing happiness outside yourself, which is reacting to external things. Freedom comes from creating your own reality independent of what others think or are doing.

2. Drop out of all high-drama situations. Just don't participate anymore.

Fiberglass fibers cause lung diseases and cancer

By Paul Fassa

The case against asbestos in building materials was finalized after decades of research traced several severe lung cancer incidents to asbestos poisoning. Now fiberglass, the replacement for asbestos, is under similar scrutiny for the same reasons.

Independent researchers at Cornell University discovered that sick building syndrome (SBS), which causes many occupants to suffer similar health issues, occurred mostly in recently built airtight structures without adequate internal air cleaning systems. They ran out of research funds and couldn't continue.

A couple of decades ago, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a medical wing of the Department of Labor, made an alarming discovery regarding man made mineral fibers (fiberglass). They determined that the fibers created DNA damage, which leads to chronic illness and is carcinogenic.

An anti-regulatory Congress that encouraged the rapid rise of biotech industries, such as Monsanto, threatened to abolish NIOSH around that time. Meanwhile, the large suppliers of fiberglass insulation claim they've done their own research. Read more…

Study: Omega-3 effecting brain health a myth

Study: Omega-3 helping brain health a myth

Omega -3 Fatty Acids effect on brain health in people 60 or older may be more myth than medical fact.

Researchers with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine issued a report Wednesday that found direct evidence on the effect of omega-3 on incident dementia is lacking.

Dr. Alan Dangour, author of the new study, admits he was disappointed in the results which reviewed 3,536 patients taking placebos versus fish oil for six months to more than three years.

"This is a great shame, Dangour said. "It would be lovely to find a solution for cognitive decline and dementia, and unfortunately, the evidence as it stands says it does not benefit cognitive function in older people."

Dr. Deborah Harding, CEO of The Harding Anti-Aging Center in Orlando, says the window of time for the studies is too short to make any real conclusions.

"This study, in my opinion, doesnt tell us anything," she said. "Number one, its too short, number two they are not measuring the Omega fish oil levels in the participants blood."

Hardings patients are given levels of Omega-3 based on their individual blood results. That was never done in any of the clinical studies reviewed in the London report. Dementia is a progressive illness which mainly affects older people. The changes are subtle at first, then over time, the decline in memory and verbal fluency is stunted.

According to the study, "previous research from observational studies has suggested that increased consumption of fish oils rich in omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 PUFA) may reduce the chance of developing dementia, while other studies show no effect."

Dr. Dangour, a nutritionist and co-author of the study concedes time may play a key in the impact of fish oil on the brains health.
