UTC Aerospace Systems Technology Supported Royal Navy's Successful Security Operations

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --UTC Aerospace Systems provided a number of Maritime Imagery Manipulation and Storage (MAInMAST) systems to the UK Royal Navy. This system is unique in its ability to provide accurate, near real-time threat analysis. MAInMAST, deployed by the Royal Navy in support of the Olympics, contributed to the successful provision of maritime security for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, allowing timely access to accurate intelligence and improved situational awareness. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (UTX)

At only the size of a standard briefcase and resembling a laptop, MAInMAST is housed in a server rack or in its own ruggedized case and can be deployed onboard a ship, land vehicle or a ground based facility. Accepting information from a variety of sensors, MAInMAST quickly transmits data using a live data link for immediate analysis and early, effective decision-making. Advanced electro-optic sensors such as those currently in use on Royal Navy helicopters send critical information to the system. Less critical information can be retrieved from the sensor's data brick as a helicopter returns to the ship.

The system software allows data collection directly from the operators' heads-up display. This 'screen-scrape', a new form of immediate information retrieval is then formed into a data packet and catalogued for subsequent storage and retrieval.

"This system, together with the UTC Aerospace Systems Merlin exploitation application software, has also created a highly effective reference library, enabling officials to track and show evidence of illicit activity; including terrorism, narcotics smuggling and piracy. The MAInMAST system stores data based on NATO standards held within a shared reference library, allowing information to be disseminated across wide-area networks or held in a central archive for future use," said Sam Macleod, managing director, ISR Systems.

UTC Aerospace Systems designs, manufactures and services integrated systems and components for the aerospace and defense industries. UTC Aerospace Systems supports a global customer base with significant worldwide manufacturing and customer service facilities.

United Technologies Corp., based in Hartford, Connecticut, is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries.

Fitch: Global Aerospace/Defense – Commercial Growth and Near-term Defense Risks in 2013

NEW YORK & LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The outlook for the global Aerospace and Defense (A&D) sector is stable for 2013, with the largest parts of the commercial aerospace sector continuing to benefit from strong demand, while global defense budgets remain under pressure, according to Fitch Ratings in its outlook report.

Regionally, Europe could be a key credit focus in 2013, with several large players evaluating strategies and facing other challenges.

The broader story in the A&D sector includes challenges in commercial aerospace and opportunities in defense that temper the respective positive and negative storylines. Poor execution in the commercial segment could weaken the outlook, while cost cutting and international opportunities in defense could fend off credit pressures.

Outlook Summary:

-- Commercial Segments: Supported by strong orders and large backlogs, Fitch expects deliveries from Airbus and Boeing to grow approximately 8% in both 2013 and 2014, but deliveries could plateau in 2014. Key challenges include meeting higher production rates and keeping new programs on track. Aftermarket revenues should grow in the mid-single digits, and business jet and regional aircraft markets are likely to be stable, but at low levels.

-- Aircraft Finance: Fitch does not expect that availability of aircraft financing will be a limit on the commercial aerospace outlook in 2013, despite a likely 10% higher financing requirement. Commercial banks have remained active in the market, while new capital providers have also emerged. Capital markets activity should continue to rise in 2013.

-- U.S Defense: Sequestration is a near-term concern, but Fitch's expectation is that it will be avoided. However, additional defense spending reductions will likely be a part of any deal that avoids the fiscal cliff. While U.S. defense spending is past its peak, opportunities to cut costs and win international contracts should not be ignored. At some companies, cash deployment to offset lower growth rates is a credit risk.

-- European Defense: Fitch believes that defense spending levels in Europe have, for the most part, bottomed out, despite the on-going fiscal challenges facing the continent. Fitch does not expect materially different financial profiles in 2013, save any company specific events such as M&A or key program problems. In the aftermath of the terminated merger, the potential for strategic actions at EADS or BAE Systems is an issue to watch.

Sequestration or a similarly severe spending plan is the nearest term risk to Fitch's outlook, but it would likely not affect all ratings and Outlooks in the U.S. defense sector. In the commercial aerospace sector, cost overruns or material delays on new aircraft programs are the main risk to Fitch's outlook, but failed execution on production rate increases and the ongoing negotiations with Boeing's engineer's union are also key concerns.

IAU Christmas ID 2012 "Smile this Christmas"
As Indiana Aerospace University commemorates its 20-year long success, Airwatch (Official Media Bureau of IAU) spearheaded by the Airwatch Visual Arts team, proudly presents IAU #39;s first Christmas ID with the theme "Smile this Christmas". "Smile this Christmas" highlights the happiness and friendliness of the IAU family.Smiling through ups and downs keeps our family diversely united. It lifts our spirits up and keeps everything under our control even if it seems to be impossible. The power of smile is also highly contagious, proof to that is the saying that goes, "smile and the world will smile with you." The Bundles of Joy dated December 8, 2012 is an annual celebration of giving gifts to the less-fortunate families. The "Belen" is also present in this scene. It reminds us that Christmas is not only the day of giving but also the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The scenery of Ormoc with RP-C 2896 (IAU #39;s Cessna 150 aircraft) is real and was recorded August of 2012. Ormoc is the location of the IAU aerodrome which houses its four Cessna aircraft. It also serves as the base for flight training for BS Aviation Technology students. The parol, stars and the "smiling moon" are the ID #39;s centerpieces. They portray the spirit of Christmas as a felicitous season to everyone. The "smiling moon" is a real event which occurred last December 1, 2008 where Jupiter and Venus are above a waxing crescent moon.
