The world population is now 7 billion, and will become 9 billion during the coming generation. World population is growing faster than increases in food supplies and water and arable land are becoming limiting. Over 90% of the population increases will occur in the cities of developing countries. 40000 people die from starvation each day; 1000000 people die from vitamin A deficiency each year; Who will feed these people? The Northern hemisphere? or themselves? Can biotechnology be used to feed the world? Should biotechnology be used to feed the poor?
