Fida #39;a was accompanying the foreign backed armed group calling itself the free Syrian army for several days and sending packages and reporting from Syria as he visited the city of Aleppo right before his abduction. Kidnappers had said his work was not compatible with their campaign of terror. Itani appeared in a video saying he was safe. Apparently, his kidnappers were those he used to accompany. Few months ago several Lebanese pilgrims were kidnapped in Syria as well Ammar al-Dadikhli, the abductor of the Lebanese pilgrims said: They noted that Itani drew suspicions of the gunmen he was accompanying when he started taking numerous pictures of the locations. Lebanese officials also condemned the kidnapping which they considered an attack against freedom of speech and dignity of journalists. Fida #39;a Itani and nine other Lebanese pilgrims have been kidnapped by Syrian armed groups. Lebanon government says it #39;s following up closely to release them as early as possible. Freedom senior running back David Burgess (5-8, 180) is The News Heralds final 2012 high school football county player of the week for his performance in the Patriots 28-7 home win over rival Patton on Friday.

Burgess, who wins the award for a whopping sixth time in 11 weeks this fall, became the second Patriot in history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season. He finished with 26 carries for 164 yards and his teams final touchdown to pull within 25 yards of Terry Sheffield's school mark of 2,158 in 1997.

Burgess now has 25 total TDs this year along with 3,576 rushing yards for his three-year varsity career, averaging 8.6 yards per carry. Hes also the countys eighth-leading receiver this season, with seven catches for 119 yards and two scores.

Burgess, along with standouts Shawn Fairchild at quarterback and Khris Gardin at wide receiver, have helped Freedom average 408 yards and 37 points this fall.

Parking freedom comes early this year

Traffic tie-ups are coming to Bryan's busiest street this weekend as contractors shut down Freedom Boulevard at the Briarcrest Drive intersection for the whole weekend.

Several local businesses are expecting to take a hit.

Driving in Bryan is getting more difficult and a busy weekend will bring detours to a major shopping area.

Freedom Boulevard is closing starting at 6:30 P.M. Friday at the Briarcrest Drive intersection so that construction crews can fix the pavement and median.

Casa Ole's main road and a number of other businesses have less access now. Waiter Francisco Tirado expects a slow evening but thinks travel will be better after the improvements.

"Probably going to be a crazy night. There's going to be a lot of people that doesn't know about that new stuff they are doing they are blocking the road and everything," said Francisco Tirado.

Taylor Matcek came to eat at Casa Ole but plans to steer clear of the area this weekend or at least plan ahead.

"It was good right now it wasn't too bad. Guess we'll see when they start," said Matcek.

The detour will last all weekend long with Freedom Boulevard not expected to reopen until 6:30 Monday morning.

Chase today released the third quarter (Q3) 2012 findings of the Chase Freedom Lifestyle Index, a quarterly barometer of consumer trends based on aggregated Chase Freedom cardholder spending data. According to the Chase Freedom Lifestyle Index, overall cardholder spending increased 4 percent in Q3 of 2012, compared to the same quarter in 2011. Spending was strong across the majority of categories, with solid increases in food, back-to-school, and outdoor/leisure expenditures.

Consumers are slowly beginning to open their wallets, based on the steady increases in spending we are witnessing, said Phil Christian, general manager, Chase Freedom. The overall trends suggest that consumers are increasing discretionary entertainment and leisure spending on a year-over-year basis, which is a good sign from an economic recovery perspective. As we enter into the holiday season, we believe the current spending trends point to what is likely to be a strong holiday shopping season in the fourth quarter.

On a quarter-over-quarter basis, overall spending went up by 1 percent in Q3 2012, following a sharp increase (9 percent) from Q1 to Q2, underscoring a continued upward trend since Q2 2012.

Back-to-school shopping

Chase Freedom Lifestyle Index data pointed to a healthy back-to-school shopping season, with combined spending on apparel/clothing, books, and museums increasing 6 percent in Q3 2012, compared to the same quarter in 2011.

Eating out

Chase Freedom cardholders spent 22 percent more in fast food in Q3 2012, compared to Q3 2011. Restaurant spending was nearly as strong, with a 19 percent year-over-year increase.

Outdoors, sports, and entertainment

Spending on outdoor and leisure activities recorded an overall 8 percent increase, with Chase Freedom cardholders spending 8 and 9 percent more at recreational facilities and on sporting goods, respectively, in Q3 2012, compared to the same quarter in 2011.

The Freedom Bank of Virginia (Bank) (Bulletin Board: FDVA.OB) earned a Net Profit Before Taxes of $452,617 for the quarter ending September 30, 2012, its fourteenth consecutive quarterly profit. Net Profit for the quarter ended September 30, 2011 was $618,321. Net Profit Before Taxes was $1,013,472 for the first nine months of 2012 compared to a Net Profit for the first nine months of 2011 of $1,420,358. The reduction in profit in 2012 versus 2011 was principally due to an increase in the provision for loan losses as well as expenses associated with hiring additional commercial lenders in the third quarter.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Freedom Rides Museum in the old Greyhound Bus Station in Montgomery has been selected for a national historic preservation award.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is presenting the award Friday in Spokane, Wash. It recognizes the groups behind the museum: the U.S. General Services Administration, the Alabama Historical Commission, the Greyhound Bus Station Advisory Committee and the U.S. Middle District Court of Alabama.

They worked together to save the old bus station from demolition. It reopened last year as a museum honouring the Freedom Riders. That group set out to integrate Southern bus stations in 1961, but an angry white mob attacked them when they arrived at the Montgomery station.

The bus station is next door to the federal courthouse, where landmark civil rights rulings were handed down.
