Rousey calls PEDs 'weapon' that could 'destroy' MMA

UFC womens bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey shared her thoughts on the increased drug testing failures in mixed martial arts and PED use.

Like everyone else in the mixed martial arts community, UFC womens bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was shocked and upset by the news that pound-for-pound legend Anderson Silva had tested positive for anabolic steroids prior to UFC 183.

Silva tested positive fordrostanolone andandrosterone; both substances banned under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code which the Nevada State Athletic Commission follows.

I was heartbroken to hear that, I wanted to cry, Rousey recounted as she spoke with Yahoo Sports.

Rousey has always spoken openly about her feelings on performance-enhancing drug use, previously saying fighters who enter the cage on PEDs should be charged with attempted negligent homicide.

When speaking with Yahoo, Rousey agani shared those thoughts, saying using PEDs to prepare for a fight is like entering the cage with a weapon.

It is something the womens bantamweight champion believes could ruin the sport of MMA.

People need to realize that is a weapon and theyre bringing a weapon into the cage and theyre making our sport unsafe,The day that a person dies in that Octagon and the person who killed them tests positive for performance-enhancing drugs, were going to have our first homicide case, she said. Its going to destroy the whole sport.

Rouseys next fight is scheduled to headline UFC 184 on Feb. 28 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., as she takes on undefeated challenger Cat Zingano.

However, one day prior to Rouseys meeting with Zingano, Cris Cyborg will fight.
