Liverpool University has launched an investigation after a script for the Medical Students Society (LMSS) annual play emerged featuring a character being drugged and raped.
The script also mocks the anti-rape slogan "no means no" and was one of three options written by fourth-year medical students for the annual concert, known as Smoker.
The event runs every year and involves each year group performing a pantomime-style play based on an existing story, with sexual elements added. Another script included a female protagonist being referred to as "an ugly, frigid mess" because she would rather study than go out and sleep with someone.
Laura*, a Liverpool medical student, said:
This group represents our future NHS and its doctors. As a medical school we should be pioneers when it comes to social responsibility and professionalism. Within the school, however, it seems that professionalism is something which merely exists within earshot of patients.
The play has been heavily criticised on social media:
The university, the LMSS and the Guild, Liverpool universitys students union, released a joint statement condemning the script.
They said: We expect our students to comply with the universitys policy on student conduct and discipline and adhere to appropriate standards of behaviour.
The university, the Guild of Students and the Liverpool Medical Students Society are shocked at the content of this material which is clearly unacceptable. The university is investigating.
The university and the Guild will continue to work together in combating sexism and sexual harassment.

Ernie Vandeweghe, who attended medical school while playing for the New York Knicks and later served as the Lakers' team doctor, has died. He was 86.
Vandeweghe died Sunday at home in Newport Beach of natural causes, according to his son, Kiki, who was a basketball star at UCLA and in the NBA before becoming a general manager and coach.
Born Ernest Maurice Vandeweghe Jr. in Montreal on Sept. 12, 1928, he grew up on New York's Long Island. Drafted by the Knicks in 1949 from Colgate University, where he was All-America, the 6-foot-3 shooting guard and small forward averaged 9.5 points and 2.4 assists per game in six seasons.
"I was very active on the court," Vandeweghe told The Times in 1980 while describing his style of play. "I got in everyone's way. I was the kind of guy who annoyed the hell out of everyone."
He was very active off the court too, attending medical school at Columbia University during his first few years in the NBA.
To stay in shape he would run up flights of stairs, noting in a 1981 interview with the New York Times that some of his classes were on the 18th floor at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He skipped some road trips and kept up a hectic travel schedule getting to Knick games on the East Coast while studying medicine.
After being sidelined by a knee injury, Vandeweghe played his last NBA games in the 1955-56 season, then practiced as a pediatrician and served as an Air Force doctor in Germany.
He and his wife, Colleen Hutchins Vandeweghe, who had been Miss America of 1952, moved to the Los Angeles area, and he continued his medical practice as they raised their four children.
When the Lakers moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in 1960, owner Bob Short hired Vandeweghe to be team physician. The doctor also advised Short to put Chick Hearn on the payroll as radio play-by-play announcer, establishing a team tradition that lasted for 42 years until Hearn's death in 2002.
Vandeweghe's wife of 57 years died in 2010. Besides son Kiki, who played forward for Denver, Portland, New York and the Clippers in the NBA, Vandeweghe's survivors include daughters Tauna Vandeweghe, a U.S. Olympic swimmer and volleyball player, and Heather Vandeweghe Shannon, who played on the U.S. women's polo team; and son Bruk, a professional beach volleyball player. Among Vandeweghe's grandchildren is another world-class athlete, Coco Vandeweghe, who competes on the women's professional tennis tour.

Buried deep in a cornerstone near the historic 1930 building, a large rectangular copper box was packed full of Philadelphia and Temple history artifacts.
Temple Medical School president, faculty and staff at the time left behind newspapers, periodicals and photographs.
Though Temples Medical School no longer resides in the building at the corner of Broad and Ontario streets, a piece of its history was preserved in this 84-year-old time capsule discovered at the demolition three weeks ago.
The time capsule was a lot of paper, but interesting paper, said Dr. Larry Kaiser, dean of Temple University School of Medicine.
Kaiser had the honor of opening the capsule and presenting it at the demolition site.
You get a pretty good idea of what was going on at that time in 1930, Kaiser said. It was fascinating being able to sort of look back and see what they would have put in there.
The box held city newspapers, including issues of the Inquirer and Evening Public Ledger from June 1930, as well as Temple University Weekly, the schools student-run newspaper, from December 1925, the year university founder Russell Conwell died.

LYNCHBURG (WSLS) - Liberty University is remembering a student who was killed on the same tracks another student was killed on three years ago.
In November 2011, five friends including Hannah Williams walked out on the railroad trestle on River Road to stargaze. But the peaceful night turned deadly after an oncoming train killed Williams.
She was a freshman at Liberty University.
Now, three years later another student was killed on the same trestle. The accident happened Saturday taking the life of Jonathan Gregoire was a senior at Liberty University and had plans to become a missionary.
A spokesperson from Norfolk Southern told us they are still figuring out if the company needs to increase any safety measures.
"I think it's too early to tell what we have been doing all along is getting the word out to Liberty University students about the dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks," says Robin Chapman, Spokesperson for Norfolk Southern.
Some of the dangers such as injuries and deaths are posted on large trespassing signs next to the tracks.
The railroad also works with an organization called Operation Lifesaver which goes to schools including Liberty University to educate students about the dangers surrounding railroad tracks.
"What we're dealing with is people who know the dangers but do it anyway and that's a real challenge," says Chapman.
