Bitcoin voted worst currency in 2014

Bitcoin has been voted the worst currency in 2014, following a year of downward fluctuations in the still young open cryptocurrency market.

Bloomberg makes the claim, highlighting that Bitcoin did even worsethan the Russian Ruble andUkrainian Hryvnia.

relentless promotion cant hide these facts: The digital currency peaked at a value of $1,130 just over a year ago. Its plunge of more than 56 percent in 2014 makes it the worlds worst performing currency this year Bloombergs Mark Gilbert argues.

Joining the rush of bear predictions, Gilbert says that at a current value of about $326, Bitcoin isnt dead, yet it may be mortally wounded.

There is no argument that the valuation of Bitcoin has plummeted in 2014, but Gilbert seemingly ignores the reasons as to why, and the overall investment in the market that not onlyforetells of better days ahead, but a remarkably popular investment during the year.

The stand out story of the year was the effective ban of Bitcoin in China. The rot started in February, when the Peoples Bank of China banned third-party payment processors from funding Bitcoin exchanges in the country.

Just hours after theannouncement, the price of Bitcoin plungedto $520 following a high of $896 in late January.

Despite the downward trend, investment in the sector surged forward in 2014. There is a sound argument that venture capitalists can make dud investments, but theres billions of dollars invested in the sector that would suggest that going forward theres a strong and sound future for Bitcoin.

You can fairly say that the valuation of Bitcoin dropped precipitously, but to suggest its the worst performing currency overall is another matter; is anyone investing venture capital in UkrainianHryvnias?

2014 will be noted as the year that Bitcoin seriously entered the mainstream of the investment community, and started to emerge as a serious player in consumer transactions.

Central Florida (9-3, 7-1 American) vs. North Carolina State (7-5, 3-5 ACC), 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Line: UCF by 2.

Series Record: Tied 1-1.

WHATS AT STAKE

UCF has chance to finish with at least 10 wins for the fourth time in five seasons. The Knights, co-champions of the American Athletic Conference, played in a BCS bowl for the first time a year ago, beating Baylor in the Fiesta. North Carolina State went 3-9, including 0-8 in the ACC, in its first season under coach Dave Doeren in 2013. Wolfpack won three of past four to become bowl eligible, and beating UCF would represent another step forward under their second-year coach.

KEY MATCHUP

North Carolina State QB Jacoby Brissett threw for 2,344 yards, 22 touchdowns and five interceptions, and the transfer from Florida also rushed for 498 yards and three TDs. In UCF, hes facing a stout defense that ranks in the top five nationally in fewest yards allowed per game and pass efficiency, rushing and scoring defense.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Central Florida: QB Justin Holman didnt begin the season as a starter, but hes proven to be more than a capable successor to Blake Bortles, who left the Knights after his junior season to become the third overall pick in last springs NFL draft. His 51-yard Hail Mary gave UCF a 32-30 victory over East Carolina, along with a share of the AAC title. AAC defensive player of the year Jacoby Glenn anchors a solid secondary.
