Maybe the name of the place just sounds romantic to some writers, but whatever the reason, Liberty, Texas has been used as the setting for a number of recent novels.
Leaving Liberty, a Western Romance by Lisa Mondello was published for Amazon Kindle in April of this year. It is about a Texas Ranger named Jackson Gentry who comes to Liberty on an investigation and, as the title suggests, finds romance.
A two-book series by Rebecca De Madeiros called Brides of Liberty, Texas are also available through Amazon as paperbacks. A blurb for one of the books in that series, A Bargain Bride, reads, In a time when the west was wild. . . and the men were wilder. . . There came a challenge in the small town of Liberty, Texas. The objective in mind: Marriage. Bets are placed, and a race to the alter begins.
A science fiction novel, The Pure Land by Jonathan Howard, begins with the line, My name is Bryce Lliot and I was born in Liberty, Texas, the only child of the mayor.
Likewise, in 96, author Larry M. Brooks has his narrator begin life in Liberty. Growing up in Liberty, Texas, I learned at an early age that there were only two things that people respected: athletic prowess and street credibility. Growing up in Liberty, all of my role models were athletes, hustlers, gladiator-type figures, or a combination of the three.
In Liberty (A Redemption Novel), about a wounded Marine returning home from Afghanistan, author Ginger Jamison writes, In Liberty, Texas, women stood by their men. They took care of their husbands.
Kent Conwell has his characters in The Alamo Trail come from Liberty.
While not the setting for a story, Liberty was mentioned in the non-fiction Enriques Journey adapted for young readers by Sonia Nazario. It is about a Honduran boy searching for his family in the United States. It mentions Liberty when describing the deportation of minors:
Worse, he could sit in a Texas jail cell for months before the United States process the paperwork to deport him. There is a juvenile prison in Liberty, Texas forty-six miles northeast of Houston, where many minors who are captured trying to enter the United States alone and illegally are sent to await deportation.
Liberty, Texas even got a very brief mention in one of the most famous novels ever published. Jack Kerouac wrote in On the Road, We zoomed through Beaumont, over the Trinity River at Liberty, and straight for Houston.

LEAVENWORTH Liberty Bell High Schools boys basketball team went 2-0 and claimed the championship at the Cascade Holiday Tournament on Monday and Tuesday.
The Mountain Lions got off to a fast start edging 1A Cascade, 49-47 on Monday. Liberty Bell lead 32-29 at the half.
We were able to battle despite a poor shooting night and survive a last second three point shot that would have won it, Liberty Bell coach Kyle Acord said.
Connor Cooley finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
Micah Klemmeck added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Liberty Bell (49) Scoring: Lara 6, B. Klemmeck 3, Dominguez 2, Reggiatore 4, Cooley 13, M. Klemmeck 13, Duguay 4, Dornfeld 4. Rebounds: Cooley 8, M. Klemmeck 6, Duguay 5, Dornfeld 3. Steals: Dominguez 3, M. Klemmeck 3, Duguay 2. Assists: Duguay 5.
The Mountain Lions put together a strong second half to slip past Cle Elum-Roslyn, 63-56, on Tuesday.
Liberty Bell trailed 33-25 at the half before using a 24-12 fourth quarter run to gain the victory.
We did a better job of executing our offense in the fourth quarter, Acord said of the championship game. That, along with some key defensive stops enabled us to take a 2-point lead with just under a minute to play.
Cle Elum-Roslyn was hit with a personal foul, a player technical and a coach technical in the final minute.

New crime statistics show tough anti-bikie laws in Queensland have cleaned up the streets and should stay despite an opposition plan to repeal them, the state government says.
Since the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment (VLAD) legislation was implemented over 12 months ago, 1706 criminal gang members have been arrested on 4710 charges, acting Police Minister John McVeigh says.
"The LNP (Liberal National Party) government is very satisfied with the progress of these laws, we're very satisfied with the implementation of the laws by the police, and we'll continue this strong stance against criminal gangs across Queensland," he told reporters in Brisbane on Tuesday.
Although he accused the opposition of wanting to take Queensland back to "the bad old days" by repealing the VLAD laws, he declined to speculate about whether they would remain in place past a review date in 2016.
"That review date is roughly 18 months away, I certainly won't pre-empt what cabinet's consideration may be of a review that is due at that time," he said.
"We're obviously very committed to them right now."
Mr McVeigh heralded the "impressive progress" shown in new crime statistics, including a 27 per cent dip in the number of robberies between July and November 2014, and a 35 per cent decline in extortion offences over the same period.
More than 1400 calls to Crime Stoppers also resulted in the arrest of 131 people.
An unsuccessful High Court challenge of the laws and comments from senior police officers showed they were supported by police and the community, Mr McVeigh said.
Critics of the legislation say the VLAD Act draconian and encroaches upon the right to associate.

Rand Paul may only yet be a candidate for re-election to the Senate in 2016, but the first-term Kentucky Republican already is sprinting toward the race for president.
The libertarian-minded lawmaker is set to visit several Western states this month before reintroducing himself to voters in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, and his team is working to strengthen his political network in nearly every state.
At the same time, he is readying for a leading role in the GOP's new Senate majority while pushing to improve a Republican brand he says is "tattered."
Aides insist that Paul has not finalized his decision about the White House, but his aggressive steps leave little doubt about his ambitions.
"Everything's being prepared as if it's happening, with the knowledge that the final trigger hasn't been pulled yet," said Paul senior aide Doug Stafford.
Some see the son of former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, a two-time presidential candidate, as a transformational figure capable of expanding the GOP's appeal beyond its traditional base of older, white men.
While calling for a dramatic reduction in the size and scope of the federal government, the 51-year-old Paul plays down social issues such as gay marriage, criticizes a criminal justice system that overwhelmingly incarcerates blacks, and favors a smaller U.S. footprint in the world.
Rand Paul should expect challenges every step of the way.
About his father's legacy. About contradictions between his past comments and today's words. About his willingness to take on the status quo. About a Kentucky law that says he cannot run for president and re-election to the Senate at the same time.
"I just don't see him getting too far with an isolationist foreign policy and a pro-gay marriage agenda," said Hogan Gidley, a GOP operative who previously worked for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and ex-Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who have run for president before and may again in 2016.

A record number of migrating seabirds visited the North East thanks to this years topsy turvy weather, the National Trust has revealed.
Thousands of little gulls - a type of seagull - descended on the Farne Islands in Northumberland in October, according to the charitys annual round-up of the year in nature.
The birds, which nest in Eastern Europe, were pushed south by stormy weather over the North Sea, it is thought.
Rangers on the National Trusts Farne Islands Blog wrote: The dainty little gull is generally a summer visitor to the British Isles with the nearest breeding colonies in Eastern Europe. In recent days the Farne Islands have experienced an unprecedented passage of these fantastic gulls with record numbers recorded.
The majority of the birds have been adults and the count of 2,184 on October 10 eclipses the previous highest ever island count of 1,747 on October 14, 2002.
Why weve had so many remains unclear although recent weather systems across the North Sea have probably pushed birds into the Southern North Sea.
Rangers recorded 170 of the birds on the North Island on October 8 this year, 82 on October 9, then 2,184 - a new record - on October 10 and 791 on October 11.
The changing weather was attributed to the changing climate.
National Trust nature and wildlife specialist Matthew Oates said: The greatest challenge for wildlife this year, and perhaps a sign of things to come, was the extreme weather.
This, combined with the loss of habitat, means that nature is in for a bumpy ride in the years ahead as shown by the rollercoaster that many species endured in 2014.
