SINGER: Bingo. Its the payment system. Its the blockchain encryption. And there are interesting things. I think bitcoin, or the, really, blockchain encryption thats behind it, has a greater ability to bring more of the worlds population out of poverty than anything weve seen in
FORBES: Well, for one thing, its a cheap payment system.
SINGER: For one thing, its a cheap payment system. But its more important than that. Its more important than that. Blockchain cryptography is all about digital transfer of ownership in a completely transparent and public way. Okay, I dont want to go into any of the math and the complexity behind it, but think of what that means.
That means that I can actually record ownership in public, in a digital means. 50% of the worlds population has a mobile phone. I read an estimate this month that in 2020, 90% of the worlds population will have mobile phones. Thats probably a high estimate, but thats okay.
FORBES: $25, $35 smartphones.
SINGER: Were throwing them away and they can ship them off to emerging markets. But whats powerful about this, now think about Hernando de Soto.
FORBES: Yes.
SINGER: Okay. The Institute for Liberty and Democracy in Peru, I really think Hernando de Soto should win the Nobel prize for the work hes done. I hope he does. But hes going around the world and identified one of the most powerful things to the economy and the creation of wealth. And that is the ownership of property.

Workington Comets first home meeting of the season against Newcastle tomorrow night will make for a fiery derby atmosphere, according to owner Laura Morgan.

Comets will contest the Ian Thomas Shield over two legs against the Diamonds, the first leg at home tomorrow night (7pm start) with the reverse fixture 24 hours later at Newcastles Brough Park (6.30pm start).
As with Redcar, its a derby match with another northern team so both sides should be well-supported and up for it, Morgan said.
Our boys are desperate to get out and see what they can do on our home track.
We got that first away win under our belt early at Redcar.
So now its time to do the same at home for our supporters.
And although Morgan suggested Newcastle might not provide the stern test they have in recent seasons, she stopped short of calling them a pushover.
She added: I think Newcastle look weaker than they have for quite a few seasons but you only have to look back at our team on paper last year to know how difficult it is to predict at the beginning of the season.

The European Commission (EC) has granted marketing authorization for AbbVie's Humira (adalimumab) to treat children and adolescents with severe chronic plaque psoriasis.
The drug is indicated for use in children and adolescents from four years of age who have had an inadequate response to or are inappropriate candidates for topical therapy and phototherapies.
With the latest approval, Humira is now marketed for use in this indication in all member states of the European Union (EU).
The approval is based on the positive results of a Phase III trial, which will be reported at an upcoming medical meeting.
Currently, Humira has been approved in more than 87 countries and is being used to treat more than 851,083 patients worldwide.
AbbVie Research and Development executive vice president and chief scientific officer Michael Severino said: "With the approval from the European Commission, Humira is now the only biologic approved in Europe to treat children with this condition starting at four years of age, offering an important new option for physicians treating pediatric plaque psoriasis.
"This new indication contributes to the increasingly broad spectrum of indications for Humira, and supports its strong record of efficacy and safety in treating pediatric populations who are managing challenging chronic diseases."
Humira is indicated to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, active and progressive psoriatic arthritis, moderate to severely active Crohn's disease and moderate to severely active ulcerative colitis.

Germany has overtaken Japan as the worlds third-largest travel nation behind the USA and China in terms of the sectors economic impact, according to a new study by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). In 2014, the German travel sector contributed 258 billion to the countrys GDP and accounted for nearly five million jobs, and further growth of 2.4% and 1.9% respectively are forecast for 2015. This shows the strength of the travel industry which is growing more strongly and creating jobs faster than the overall German economy, the WTTC commented.
DER Touristik increased its revenues by 6.9% to 4.9 billion last year and plans to expand its online business, parent group Rewe announced as part of its 2014 financial results. The supermarket and retail store group increased overall turnover by 2.4% to 51.1 billion while operating profits improved by 29% to 468 million.
Germans plan to spend more on their holidays this year, according to a new TripAdvisor survey. Two out of every five respondents want to increase their travel spending, with the average cost of a two-person holiday rising by 300 to 6,700, the Ipsos survey of some 34,000 travellers in various countries, including 2,400 persons in Germany, found. Hoteliers are also optimistic about prospects for this year, with a high 75% saying they are very optimistic.

Jaan Albrecht will take over from long-serving Paul Schwaiger as head of leisure airline Sun Express, the Lufthansa Turkish Airlines joint venture, in June. Albrecht will move from Austrian Airlines, where he is currently CEO, to replace the 60-year-old Schwaiger, whose contract expires in the summer. Antalya-based Sun Express flies from various European countries to Turkey, while subsidiary Sun Express Germany flies from Germany to diverse Mediterranean destinations. From November onwards the airline will operate long-haul budget flights from Cologne for Eurowings, the new Lufthansa budget brand, under a wet lease agreement.
Sedat Tatli will take over management of DER Touristik brand Meiers Weltreisen in June. Currently product manager for Asia and the Indian Ocean, he will replace Matthias Rotter who has been appointed head of the overall DER Touristik Frankfurt business, which includes Dertour and ADAC Reisen.
German dynamic tour operator JT Touristik has increased the number of its sales partners to 10,000 and expects to add more travel agents to its distribution network in future. The Berlin-based company sold 28,000 holidays last year.
