This Altcoin Is Ready to Challenge Bitcoin’s Domination of the Crypto Market – Futurism

In Brief 2017 has been a stellar year for cryptocurrencies as a whole, but Bitcoin is still the de facto leader in terms of popularity and market cap. However, several characteristics inherent to Litecoin could give it the ability to challenge Bitcoin's domination in the crypto market.

While Bitcoincurrently leads the cryptocurrency market in terms of adoption and market cap, some argue that other, newer cryptos are actually a better investment. Once proposed alternative isLitecoin. Sometimes referred to as the silver Bitcoin, this altcoin could prove superior based on four factors.

First, Litecoins algorithm is far simpler than Bitcoins, which makes it easier to run on graphics processing units (GPUs). This results in a lower barrier to entry for Litecoin miners in comparison to Bitcoin.

Second, Litecoin has a faster block generation speed. Processing a Litecoin block takes two-and-a-half minutes as opposed to Bitcoins 10. This decreases transaction fees, making the Litecoin cryptocurrency more attractive to investors.

Third, Litecoin is about to launch a lightning network that will improve its already superior ability to adapt to changes. This network will make it easier for Litecoin to scale as it gains more traction.

Fourth, Litecoins lifetime cap is higher than Bitcoins (84 million coins as opposed to 24 million).Once this cap is reached, miners will no longer be a part of the process, and this could decrease the security and stability of the blockchain supporting each currency.

While cryptocurrencies in general areincreasing in popularity, the individual variants are constantly vying for market dominance. Perhaps Litecoin will come out on top, or perhaps it wont the primarycharacteristic shared by all cryptocurrencies right nowis volatility, and only time will tell how the crypto market ultimately plays out.

Musk: Next Six Months Will Be Production Hell for Tesla – Futurism

In Brief Before Tesla CEO Elon Musk rolled out the new Model 3 on Friday, he briefly went over the "production hell" that the electric car has represented. Tesla has simplified the design of the autonomous vehicle to meet production and pricing goals.

Designing the Model 3 to meet pricing and production goals has been a nightmare, Teslas CEO Elon Musk revealed during a press briefing Friday night.

The major challenge we faced with the Model 3 is not really the product, TechCrunch reported that Musk said at the briefing. Its going to be pretty great, but its going to be quite a challenge to produce this car.

Musk went on to describe the six months of production hell Tesla is facing in order to meet its production target of rolling out 500,000 Model 3 vehicles per year a goal that Musk hopes to meet within the next year or so.

To a greater degree than Teslas earlier vehicles, the Model 3 has been built for mass appeal. This has required 10,000 unique components in the car, Musk emphasized. If the manufacturing of any of these parts is particularly cumbersome, it will slow the entire production line down.

To avoid this, Tesla engineers had to simplify some of the cars components. Among other changes, [w]eve intentionally gone for a very simple interior with a single screen, Musk said at the briefing.

But one feature that the Model 3 does not cut corners on is autonomous driving. Musk said that the vehicle is equipped with the same sensor devices that are used in the Model S and Model X, and that Tesla plans to continue to build on this foundation.

Ultimately, the simpler design of the Model 3 has allowed Telsa to manufacture the vehicles at about 1/5 the cost of Model S cars. The affordable pricing will tap into a demand that not even the Model 3s reservations have truly revealed yet, Musk postulated.

If we did anything to even not put the brake on demand, it would go bananas, Musk said according to TechCrunch reports.

Freedom bats fall silent, team manages just three hits in series-opening road loss to Rascals – User-generated content (press release) (registration)

The Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, saw their bats fall silent Tuesday night at CarShield Field, falling in the series opener to the River City Rascals, 9-1.

The Freedom (42-25) managed just three hits in the game, each of which came off Rascals (37-31) starter Lucas Laster (1-1), who battled bouts of wildness en route to walking five but lasted six innings.

After a Paul Kronenfeld RBI-single off Braulio Torres-Perez (2-1) in the bottom of the first inning, the Freedom tied the score in the top of the second. Collins Cuthrell worked a leadoff walk, took third on a Jordan Brower single and score on a groundout to second by Andrew Godbold. But Clint Freeman homered to right-center in the bottom half to put River City back in the lead for good.

Torres-Perez would go on to strike out eight, but also issued a season-high six walks. The left-handers only scoreless inning was the fourth, in which he overcame a leadoff walk by inducing two fielders choice grounders and caught Mike Jurgella breaking early from first base on an attempted steal.

Josh Silver hit two doubles while he and Josh Ludy each drove in two runs for River City, while Freeman collected three hits to lead the Rascals, who would also score two runs off reliever Jack Fowler in the eighth, following a scoreless seventh by Enrique Zamora.

Keivan Berges provided a defensive highlight for Florence in the sixth, throwing out Jurgella at the plate from left field on an attempted tag up from third on a fly ball by Silver.

Matt Chavarria earned the save for River City, allowing only a walk to Garrett Vail over the final three innings.

The four-game series continues with a doubleheader Wednesday, with the first game scheduled to begin at 5:05 p.m. Newly-acquired right-hander Steve Hagen (4-4) will start the first game for the Freedom against River City left-hander Dan Ludwig (5-2), while right-hander Cody Gray (7-2) will start game two for Florence against Rascals righty Reese Gregory (6-4).

The Florence Freedom are members of the independent Frontier League and play all home games at UC Health Stadium located at 7950 Freedom Way in Florence, KY.The Freedom can be found online at FlorenceFreedom.com, or by phone at 859-594-4487.

U. faculty: Koch Foundation gift ‘raises serious concerns’ about … – Deseret News

SALT LAKE CITY A six-page letter to the University of Utah's Academic Senate signed by dozens of political science, economics and law faculty "raises serious concerns" that a new grant from the Charles Koch Foundation could impact intellectual independence and academic freedom.

Some 85 faculty members and doctoral candidates signed the letter to the Academic Senate's executive committee regarding the recent grant agreement between the university and foundation, which will benefit the Marriner S. Eccles Institute for Economics and Quantitative Analysis.

The "statement of concern," which was released to Utah media outlets in draft form Tuesday morning, is expected to be shared with the university's Academic Senate executive committee in a closed-door meeting later this month. The letter has not yet been delivered to the president of the Academic Senate.

Last month, the Charles Koch Foundation contributed $10 million to match a like sum from Eccles' descendants who manage two family foundations to establish the institute named for Marriner S. Eccles, who served as Federal Reserve chairman from 1934 to 1948.

The letter says transcripts from a 2014 Charles Koch Foundation Donor Summit meeting "have made it clear that the aim of the Koch Foundations widespread investments in higher education is to 'leverage science and universities' for their specific public policy agenda."

"This document and the track record of the Koch Foundations funding in higher education provides clear evidence that the foundations explicit, strategic purpose is to build a 'network' of professors who will produce research that serves the ideological and policy aims of the Koch Foundation and to build a 'talent pipeline' of students supported by Koch-funded professors, institutes and research centers who will help advance the foundations public policy and electoral goals."

The letter states that the statement was "motivated by our shared belief that the long-term viability and institutional integrity of the University of Utah will remain secure so long as students, faculty, staff and administrators are committed to protecting the vital principles of intellectual independence and academic freedom on our campus."

It goes on to say it is not in the long-term interest of the university "to allow its talented professors and students to be strategically 'leveraged' by any outside entity, irrespective of its philosophical or political views."

"Indeed, we believe that even the appearance that the University of Utah is willing to serve as a vehicle for the strategic political aims of any organization or donor will do serious damage to the academic reputation and scholarly integrity of our institution as it arguably has with other academic institutions around the country," the letter states.

Mark Button, chairman of the Department of Political Science and one author of the letter, said "I will let the letter speak for itself, and given my other responsibilities at the university, I will not have time to respond to additional media requests."

The letter calls on the university to incorporate meaningful "independent faculty governance in this new institute, especially as this relates to future faculty hiring and the distribution of student scholarships and fellowships."

University spokesman Chris Nelson, in a statement, said the gift agreements for the new Marriner S. Eccles Institute for Economics and Quantitative Analysis "include strict limits that protect the autonomy of the institutes operation, including hiring and research activities of faculty members. If we felt that autonomy was threatened we would walk away from the gift."

Nelson said the university's leadership team "is committed to making the U. a place where the broadest possible latitude is provided to explore innovative ideas and experiments. Our policies foster an environment where faculty members can seek knowledge and where the pursuit of truth is encouraged and safe guarded."

He noted that the Academic Senate does not typically weigh in on the university's acceptance of philanthropic gifts or establishing institutes.

"The universitys policies also do not give a particular group of faculty members the power to review or decide the appropriateness of a philanthropic donation to another group of faculty members," Nelson said.

As an institution, the university "neither reviews nor judges the personal or political viewpoints of its donors. University gift agreements are designed to protect academic freedom, intellectual integrity and independence of thought for all of our faculty and students," he said.

While the authors of the letter acknowledge they do not believe "it is any part of the universitys intention to align itself with the Koch Foundations ideological network and its specific public policy goals, by virtue of accepting funding from the Koch Foundation, the University of Utah will become another vehicle of the foundations broader political ambitions."

"The fact that these ambitions include the evisceration of public support for academic research especially related to climate change creates an institutional association that is at cross-purposes with the mission and values of our university and the important scholarship it seeks to advance for the wider public good," they said.

In response, Nelson said "I also want to affirm that the University of Utah is committed to rigorous, interdisciplinary research on the important concern of climate change. We have faculty across a wide range of disciplines who are actively involved in studying climate change and environmental issues. Areas of focus include: policy analysis; understanding climate process in the past and present; dynamics of greenhouse gases, air quality and convective weather; forest ecosystems, wildlife and plant responses to climate change; energy, natural resources, water and public lands use; and sustainable development."

John Hardin, director of university relations for the Charles Koch Foundation, in a recent meeting with the Deseret News and KSL editorial boards, said the foundation does not want to push an ideology at the U.

"I think what we all know is fundamentally important about higher education is that it is a space in which diverse ideas, diverse perspectives come to the table and have an environment in which they can interact, where they can challenge one another," Hardin said.

Charles Koch has supported educational initiatives in K-12 education and higher education for 50 years, the last 40 through his foundation, including giving to 300 colleges as diverse as large public universities, Ivy League schools such as Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, Notre Dame and small liberal arts colleges, Hardin said.

"What's the same about all of them, and what we see here, which is they have programs, they have faculty, they have students that are excited to engage in educational exploration around ideas and the institutions that enable people to be prosperous," he said.

"What we would hope is that people would take a look at this program and see the results, the results of the program. Whats it about? What are the students learning? Whats it been enabling them to do and not get caught up in any of these other distractions that we unfortunately see are many times efforts, unfortunately, to stop students from learning, stop professors from doing research," he said.

Is One Judge Trying to Implement Eugenics? | CBN News – CBN News

In todays politically divided society, its rare that an issue sparks bipartisan moral outrage. But thats exactly what happened recently over a Tennessee judge who offered to cut the prison sentences of inmates who received vasectomies or long-lasting contraceptive devices.

Back in May, General Sessions Judge Sam Benningfield signed a standing order that allowed inmates at White County jail to have their sentences reduced by 30 days if they agreed to receive a vasectomy, or for women, a Nexplanon birth control implant that lasts up to four years. In in an interview with Tennessees WTVF-TV last week, the judge shared that the sterilization and contraceptive services were provided cost-free by the Tennessee Department of Health.

White County inmates were also offered two days off their jail sentences if they completed a State of Tennessee, Department of Health Neonatal Syndrome Education Program, which aims to educate people about the dangers of having children while under the influence of drugs.

I hope to encourage them to take personal responsibility and give them a chance, when they do get out, to not to be burdened with children. This gives them a chance to get on their feet and make something of themselves, Judge Benningfield told WTVF.

Judge Benningfield explained that his goal was to help break a vicious cycle of repeat offenders who often enter his courtroom on drug related charges, and when they are released, cant afford child support and have trouble finding jobs.

I understand it wont be entirely successful but if you reach two or three people, maybe thats two or three kids not being born under the influence of drugs. I see it as a win, win, he added.

Dozens of inmates signed on, but as news of the program spread, the words unethical, unconstitutional, and eugenics began circulating among the general public.

District Attorney Bryant Dunaway, who oversees prosecution of cases in White County, shared his concerns about the program with WTVF.

Its concerning to me, my office doesnt support this order, Dunaway said.

Its comprehensible that an 18-year-old gets this done, it cant get reversed and then that impacts the rest of their life, he added.

Last Wednesday, the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee released a statement regarding Judge Benningfields order:

Offering a so-called choice between jail time and coerced contraception or sterilization is unconstitutional. Such a choice violates the fundamental constitutional right to reproductive autonomy and bodily integrity by interfering with the intimate decision of whether and when to have a child, imposing an intrusive medical procedure on individuals who are not in a position to reject it. Judges play an important role in our community overseeing individuals childbearing capacity should not be part of that role.

Amid the widespread criticism, Benningfield rescinded the order yesterday in a one-page court filing, The Washington Post reported. He wrote that any inmates who elected for the procedures and took serious and considered steps toward their rehabilitation would still receive credit toward their sentences, but that the plan was otherwise terminated.

Further, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Health told the Post that state health officials opposed Benningfields policy from the start and denied the judges claims that the procedures were state-funded.

Benningfield, however, maintained that the department was involved. In his filing Thursday, he wrote that he was forced to rescind the order because the department had decided it will no longer offer free vasectomies to White County inmates and will not provide the free Nexplanon implant in exchange for shorter sentences.

I wasnt on a crusade, Benningfield told the Times Free Press on Thursday. I dont have a mission. I thought I could help a few folks, get them thinking and primarily help children.

The problem with Bennigfields statement is that it mirrors the rhetoric of eugenicists throughout history who advocated for the sterilization, institutionalization, or death of entire races and classes of human beings.

Many pro-life advocates have identified abortion as the eugenics movement of our day. But as this case highlights, the attempted undermining of human dignity comes in many forms.

Sadly, abortion is far from a bipartisan moral issue in this country. It is particularly noteworthy, therefore, that a vocal majority of people in the medical, legal, and media communities were able to unilaterally denounce Bennigfields policy as the gross violation of human rights that it was. Thank God for that.

New research reveals ecosystem cascades affecting salmon – Phys.Org

Interpreting relationships between species and their environments is crucial to inform ecosystem-based management (EBM), a priority for NOAA Fisheries. EBM recognizes the diverse interactions within an ecosystemincluding human impactsso NOAA Fisheries can consider resource tradeoffs that help protect and sustain productive ecosystems and the services they provide.

In the coastal ocean of Californiaseabird predators, forage fish on which they feed, and the survival of salmon out-migrating to sea are each of particular interest, and an improved understanding of their interactions could in turn improve the management of the ocean ecosystem.

For example, in the California Current, understanding the interactions between predator seabirds, forage fish in the coastal ocean and out-migrating salmon from San Francisco Bay could improve the understanding of salmon early survival in the ocean and a measure of the possible strength of the year class return.

In the Gulf of the Farallones, new research by scientists from NOAA Fisheries' Southwest Fisheries Science Center, Point Blue Conservation Science, H.T. Harvey and Associates, University of California Santa Cruz, U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found that the common murre, a small ocean seabird, can make a difference in the number of salmon that survive to return as adults. This is especially true when ocean conditions cause the murres to feed primarily on salmon and anchovy. The research has been published online in the Journal of Marine Systems, and will be included in the journal's October print issue.

Large colonies of more than 500,000 common murres nest throughout the Gulf of the Farallones, offshore of San Francisco. In typical years, with nutrient-rich water welling up from the depths, the murres prey primarily on young rockfish around their offshore breeding sites.

When ocean conditions change, and the upwelling falters, young rockfish that are the typical prey for the murres become scarce. Then the murres switch, feeding instead on adult northern anchovies found closer to shore. That's a problem for the young salmon entering the ocean at these near-shore locations, because the murres eat them too.

The finding documents one of the first examples of what biologists call "bottom-up" influenceschanges at the base of the food webcausing "top-down" effects on West Coast salmon, such as an increase in predation by a species higher in the chain, in this case the common murres.

"This is the first example we've found involving salmon where bottom-up drivers are causing top-down impacts," said NOAA Fisheries research biologist Brian Wells, lead author of the research. "The lack of upwelling affects salmon in a top-down way."

The new research shows that salmon survival drops sharply in the years when ocean conditions lead the murres to prey on anchovy and salmon. Even in years when the murres are preying on anchovy, salmon comprise less than 10 percent of the diet of the murres; but the impact can be a significant factor in the survival of salmon. The research concludes that predation by the seabirds can make a difference in the number of salmon that survive to return as adults.

The salmon affected are primarily fall-run Chinook, which are the primary species supporting salmon fisheries off the California Coast. The research helps reveal the complex relationships between species and their environment, which in turn helps NOAA Fisheries anticipate and respond to changes that affect fish, birds and people.

For example, the murres preyed heavily on anchovy and salmon in 2005, which likely contributed to the collapse of the California salmon fishery in 2007 and 2008, the researchers found. Congress appropriated $170 million in disaster relief for fishermen affected by the collapse.

NOAA Fisheries managers can use the details to make better decisions about how best to protect and manage marine species.

"Understanding the dynamics behind these connections can help us anticipate impacts to salmon, which are very important both economically and environmentally," said John Field, a research fisheries biologist at the SWFSC in Santa Cruz. "That can help fisheries managers make smart and informed decisions about how to manage these species into the future."

Authentication and IT Ecosystem: Leveraging Data from Multiple Sources – CSO Online

sponsored

Your immediate IT ecosystem is just one part of the broader IT ecosystem and therefore just one source of information that can be used to authenticate identities and grant access to systems. From your threat detection system to your organizations physical security systems, there are a variety of sources of data that can provide insights into identity assurance. When building out your identity assurance strategy, its worthwhile to look at the system management and security tools in the broader ecosystem and ask yourself: What information from these sources do I wish our identity system knew?

Here are a few examples of how you can apply data from a variety of sources for authentication and access purposes.

1. Threat Detection Including SIEM and CASB

We all know that identity assurance systems can feed log information to threat detection systems -- like Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB) systems -- to help identify threats. In hand, SIEM and CASB systems can send threat alerts to identity assurance systems to step up authentication requirements. For example, when an alert is raised for a specific user, the identity system can adjust in response by requiring multi-factor authentication or, if the threat is significant, blocking access for the user until the threat is cleared. Similarly, if an alert is raised on a resource, anyone attempting access to that resource should be required to provide a higher level of assurance to get it. Again, in extreme cases, all access to a resource may need to be blocked.

The value of threat alerts from threat detection systems, whether raised on users or resources, lies in triggering the appropriate additional access security in real time. In addition to real-time threat information, many threat detection tools also offer additional risk analysis. This data should work with the risk analytics of the identity assurance system to raise or lower confidence in the users identity.

2. Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM)

Mobile devices that are managed through a corporate EMM have a wealth of device data available for strengthening identity assurance. This device information can provide additional context for static rules, such as policies that foster easier access for users of corporate managed devices. It can also provide additional analytics insights to the identity risk engine.

3. Physical Security Systems

Information about how people physically access buildings may not appear to have much of an impact on how they access digital information, but in reality, building access data can instill confidence that a user is who he or she claims to be. Integrating data from physical access systems into the identity risk engine extends identity insights. For example, if a user badges into an office in San Francisco and then, within a few minutes, attempts a login from London, thats a clear signal to reassess the identity risk. Conversely, if the user enters the building he or she normally does and, following day-to-day patterns, accesses Office 365, that behavior is also worth considering in determining whether additional authentication is required.

Threat detection, EMM and physical security systems are by no means the only systems from which additional data about users can help feed behavioral recognition and static policy rules. By looking throughout your organization for systems that contain data to increase identity assurance, you can improve access security and, at the same time, reduce end-user friction. The important thing for your identity assurance strategy is not only having systems that contain these types of data, but also having real-time response capabilities in your identity system.

The message is simple and clear: Dont overlook data from the broader IT ecosystem to help with ensuring secure, convenient access to resources. You can learn more about how RSA SecurID Access is enabling access to the modern enterprise in this on-demand webinar.

Growing Indy’s Entrepreneur Ecosystem – Inside INdiana Business

From corporate support for the largest collegiate hackathon in Pennsylvania to engaging with the local technology community through our partnership withInside INdiana Businesson their Town Hall series, we believe innovation is imperative to shaping cities of the future and the next generation of entrepreneurs.

During the recent Tech Town Hall at Union 525, a new high-tech haven for startup and growth companies in Indianapolis, it was clear Indianas future economic success will be shaped significantly by emerging technology entrepreneurs. Three common themes were conveyed throughout the discussion about how the community as a whole, including political figures, educational institutions and technology companies, can actively support entrepreneurship, innovation, and invention throughout Indiana and across the nation.

Live, Work, Play Trifecta

To create an entrepreneurial, business-friendly environment, its imperative to lower the risk factors for entry. Providing affordable and abundant housing in an urban environment as well as commute-friendly suburban options for growing families are key. Additionally, while entrepreneurs may think about their business 24/7, they dont want to be tied to their desk every day. A vibrant community overflowing with activities and amenities, at home and on the go, continues to play a crucial role in where entrepreneurs choose to set up shop.

Supportive Community

Understanding that we need to tap into communities across Indiana, not just in the metropolitan areas, will continue to be a benchmark for our success. Consequently, we need to provide knowledge and experience to the next generation of entrepreneurs at a very early age via internships, programming and a strong network of educational options. That includes advice from successful mentors who are willing to share their wisdom and possibly financial windfall. Lastly, low barriers to entry, such as start-up investment from regional venture firms and technology companies, will continue to play a crucial role in the states success.

Easy Access to Tools & Resources

Cloud computing has made it possible for entrepreneurs to leverage the latest technology in order to build and do business with anyone, anywhere. Business technology infrastructure is helping to accelerate the speed of innovation by providing entrepreneurs with a superfast internet environment and other amenities to meet their business and personal needs, alike.

This infrastructure gives entrepreneurs the flexibility to scale at a pace that best fits their needs and budget at work and at home.

It is evident from the Town Hall event that the momentum and innovation being felt throughout the state is substantial. In order to continue to make waves, we need to insert a bit more swagger into our step and not be too polite to boast about our entrepreneurial prowess in an effort to continue to move our economy forward.

First and foremost, theres the obvious buzz in the wake of UFC 214 surrounding a potential superfight between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar, the current WWE Universal Champion. Theres also the fact that former UFC womens bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey recently attended tapingsof WWEs first-ever womens tournament, the Mae Young Classic, and reportedly was involved in a story angle with training partner-turned pro wrestler Shayna Baszler, which is slated to air on WWE Network later this month.

Perhaps flying a bit under the radar, though, is the social media feud between newly crowned UFC womens featherweight champion Cristiane Justino (18-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC)and WWE star Becky Lynch. It started weeks ago and has continued on, with both women teasing a match or encounter of some sort at WWEs SummerSlam pay-per-view event on Aug. 20.

Heres a sampling:

They made a deal to face each other hours before UFC 214.

Lynch made a video calling out Cyborg as she walked out to the octagon at UFC 214.

Cyborg asked WWE star and executive Triple H to make a match happen after her victory.

Cyborg followed up with some more trash-talk.

Cyborg came out of her UFC 214 win over Tonya Evinger pretty much unscathed, which seemingly leaves the door open for a quick turnaround to compete (I mean perform) at SummerSlam in under three weeks.

Things could get even more interesting between these two until then.

Will Becky Lynch & Cris Cyborg Have a Match at WWE SummerSlam? – Heavy.com

Will Becky Lynch fight Cris Cyborg?

Over the past few weeks,Becky Lynch and UFCs Cris Cyborghave been teasing a possibleSummerSlammatch.

Cris Cyborg, whose real name isCristiane Justino, is the currentUFC Womens Featherweight Champion, having won the title atUFC 214 this past weekend. She and Becky Lynch have been feuding on Twitter going back to July 14th, when Cyborg challenged Lynch to a match atSummerSlam.

At the time, Lynch accepted, writing that she never backs down from a challenge.

Then, ahead of her big match at UFC 214, Cyborg tweeted at Becky Lynch that they should make a deal in which they agree to sign aSummerSlammatch contract if she wins the Womens Featherweight Championship.

Lynch issued a video response accepting the challenge, also telling Cyborg that she would be watching the match closely.

After winning her match, Cyborg actually tweeted at Triple H demanding that he book theSummerSlammatch with Lynch.

Cyborg has been tweeting about this Becky Lynch match quite often over the past few days. On Monday and Tuesday, she either tweeted about Becky Lynch or retweeted content about Becky Lynch a total of 10 times.

The WWE is actively promoting this Twitter feud, posting an article about Cyborgs challenge last month and putting up a video on its YouTube channel this afternoon talking about Lynch and Cyborgs pact to battle atSummerSlam.

Could we be heading for a dream match at SummerSlam2017 in Brooklyn? WWEs Cathy Kelleyasked in the video.

So could this match actually happen? It certainly seems like a possibility, and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer recently stated that the WWE is definitely involved in building this feud in some capacity.

The company is pushing some sort of a tease of Cris Cyborg with Becky Lynch at SummerSlam, Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. Its clearly something worked out between the two of them, which the company is involved with.

Meltzer has also pointed out that UFC owes WWE one, as WWE did allow Brock Lesnar to have his fight againstMark Hunt even while he was under a WWE contract.

It remains to be seen if this Lynch vs. Cyborg match will actually work out and whether World Wrestling Entertainment will have a place for it on the card. At the moment, fiveSummerSlammatches have been announced, and in recent years,SummerSlamhas had anywhere between nine and 12 matches, including several on the kickoff show.

If the WWE were planning to do something with this Cyborg feud, they would probably mention it onSmackDown Livepretty soon, so well get a better idea of whether this match can actually happen based on tonightsSmackDown Live.

The fight began late Friday not far from the popular beach town of Mazatlan, when several armed men in trucks shot and killed two people.

What makes Porto Heli unique, and perhaps singular, is the combination of high-end properties, like Amanzoe and Nikki Beach; scattered mid-range beach hotels; and villa rentals.

Margate beaches blocked off as Army Corps pumps out standing water – Philly.com

MARGATE, N.J. A half-dozen beach entrances were blocked off with caution tape Tuesday as Margate officials said the large pools of standing water behind newly constructed dunes had elevated bacteria levels and the Army Corps of Engineers worked to pump the water into the ocean.

Mayor Mike Becker, whose town fought the dune construction project for years, said beaches from Fredericksburg to Huntington Avenues were closed by the city as a safety precaution. Pumps were brought in Tuesday by the corps contractor to pump out the pools that have collected behind the dunes since the weekends rain.

Margate residents and officials have been furious since the pools developed, pointing out that their expert witnesses had accurately predicted the possibility of stagnant water collecting behind the new dunes and not having anywhere to go. Before the dunes were built, Margate addressed drainage problems by digging trenches to the ocean to give the water someplace to go, but the new dunes block that option.

State engineers had argued that any water that collected behind the dunes after a storm would percolate into the sand within 24 to 36 hours. That has not happened. The state also said it was working for a permanent solution to drainage issues related to storm water.

With residents and summer home owners in an uproar, Margate officials are meeting at 11 a.m. Wednesday to consider going back to court to seek an injunction against the project, part of an order from Gov. Christie to build new dunes and widen beaches along the states 127-mile coastline. The basins, the size of Olympic swimming pools, have been dubbed Lake Christie by fuming residents.

Larry Hajna, a spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, said in an email: The corps initially pumped water from the pond onto the other side of the dune. That has stopped. They are bringing in hoses to extend the discharge to the ocean. When that is all set up, the 300-foot stretch of beach will be closed, with primary sampling for 150 feet on either side of the discharge, and secondary sampling 150 feet in each direction.

Becker said the city had decided to close the beaches in the citys north end and was awaiting further results of testing.

Save the Sound: Water quality at Bridgeport, Fairfield beaches dropped in 2016

Several Connecticut beaches had significant drops in water quality in a years time, an environmental advocacy group says.

But Bridgeports Health Department says the methodology of that report is murky.

Pleasure Beach and Seaside Park Beach of Bridgeport and Jennings Beach of Fairfield are among the beaches that Save the Sound reported had declining water quality when comparing bacteria samples from 2015 and 2016.

Bridgeport Director of Public Health and Social Services Maritza Bond said her issue with this data is that it isnt recent.

The entire summer, we have not had to shut down either beach, Bond said of this years swimming season at Seaside Park Beach and Pleasure Beach. If we have an elevated level, we will notify the public. We post signs.

The mission of Save the Sound, a program within Connecticut Fund for the Environment, is to improve and protect the air, land and water of Connecticut and the Long Island Sound, its website said.

By the groups assessment, Pleasure Beach received a D in 2016, compared to the A-plus in 2015, with 11 percent of last years samples failing to meet safe swimming conditions.

Seaside Park Beach went from a B-plus in 2015 to a D-plus in 2016, with 12 percent of samples falling short of safe swimming standards.

Bond said the problem with this data is that the grading system created by Save the Sound is not, as far as she knows, enforced by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Prevention or the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

The Save the Sound website indicates its measurements and grading system are based on the EPAs criteria for safe swimming.

We developed the grading scale in consultation with scientists who study water quality in Long Island Sound, the website said.

The data used for Save the Sounds report was gathered from local and county health departments which is where Bond said the Bridgeport health department sends its information each week. She said that every Monday the health department conducts a water test to check for elevated bacteria levels at the beaches.

All summer, so far we only had one elevated level, that was in the third week of June, Bond said.

She, along with Save the Sound, said the reason for occasional elevated levels of bacteria in the water is likely because of rain runoff.

The data analysis for the report was led by Save the Sounds Soundkeeper, Bill Lucey.

Well keep the public updated about what happened at these beaches, and what can be done to make sure it doesnt happen again, Lucey said in a prepared statement.

Bridgeport beaches arent the only ones under the microscope in Save the Sounds report.

Fairfields Jennings Beach earned a B-minus in 2015 and a D-plus for 2016, with 14 percent of samples failing to meet safe swimming conditions last year.

Save the Sound said the failures at Jennings Beach correlated with rain, and that storm water runoff can pick up pet waste and overwhelm sewer systems.

Mark Tedesco, the EPAs Long Island Sound office director, told Hearst Connecticut Media in 2015 that septic systems in the area should be further studied.

We need a better understanding of where we are with septic systems and storm water runoff, Tedesco said at the time.

For those concerned about water conditions at beaches, Lucey said to contact local health departments for more information.

Beach conditions can vary dramatically from day-to-day, and high bacteria counts on a few days last summer dont necessarily mean bad conditions this year, he said in a prepared statement.

The most recent information from the DEEP on the water quality for state parks in Connecticut indicated all designated swimming areas were open Tuesday.

Why are New York’s beaches so shitty? – Time Out New York (blog)

As the city's thermometers hit triple digits, many folks get the same idea: Venture to one of the metropolitan areas sunny beaches. But while the Big Apple does many things well, between its wondrous bagels and remarkably edible dollar pizza slices, New Yorks beaches are, unfortunately, not on that list.

RECOMMENDED: See moreNew York rants

A classic NYC beach day typically kicks off with the epic

trek to get there, since the few beaches the city has to offer might as well be in Siberia for most New Yorkers. After the journey, whether it involved being stuck in endless traffic, roasting like a rotisserie chicken on a snarled train or dodging screaming children on a packed beach bus, sand seekers are usually zapped by the stress it took to arrive.

Then the real pitfalls start to

pile on like garbage on a restaurant-packed street: Sure, the citys beaches have sand, but if youre expecting the smooth stuff, think again. Prepare to gingerly step through the sharp and rockyvariety.

Want to take a scenic walk? A jaunt along the shore involves a minefield of junk; visitors can expect to dodge everything from Nathans Famous wrappers to hypodermic needles and beer cans. And if you think a dip in the water provides a welcome respite, youre sadly mistakenunless youre into weak surf and bone-chilling temperatures.

Despite all of the above, youre typically also forced to push through massive crowds made of hapless tourists and exasperated residents, all forming snaking lines for the bathroom, the overpriced, limited concessions and anything else in sight. And if you dare visit on an overcrowded holiday weekend, well, youre in my prayers.

All of it makes you want to just nose-dive into the notably polluted East River in order to grasp at a moment of cool on a steamy city summer day. Almost.

How to watch the total solar eclipse online – Astronomy Magazine

Its the greatest 2 minutes and 40 seconds in astronomy and August 21st, you have a chance to see it. At 10:15 am Pacific Daylight Time , the Great American Eclipse will begin. The first total solar eclipse in history unique to the United States, it enters the country near Depoe Bay, Oregon, and, at 2:49 pm Eastern Daylight Time, exits outside McClellanville, South Carolina. The best place to watch, of course, is within the totality band. But for those who dont live in or cant get to one of the 12 states the eclipse crosses, theres always the internet.

Thanks to NASA, citizen scientists, and public libraries across the country, youve got options to watch the total solar eclipse online. Heres a quick look at where you can watch:

1) NASA.gov

NASA.gov/eclipselive will stream 10 live webcasts, each with a different angle: See the eclipse from the International Space Station. Watch ground footage from the point of greatest eclipse outside Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Catch the view from 11 international spacecraft. Or watch the eclipse from near-space: NASA Space Grant Consortium volunteers are launching 57 high-altitude balloons across the nation, each with its own Raspberry Pi camera.

NASA expects 100-500 million site hits, so as a backup, you can also catch the balloon webcast here: eclipse.stream.live

2) Watch Parties

Go offline and see the eclipse online at the same time. Public libraries across the country are holding watch parties! Locations outside totality will stream NASAs total eclipse broadcast and also host live viewing areas for partiality. You can find the closest eclipse party to you on organizer STAR_Nets website.

No participating library in town? Then go to a NASA Museum Alliance or NASA Night Sky Network party instead.

3) Social Media

200 million Americans live within a days drive of totality, so the Great American Eclipse will be all over Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The official hashtag is #eclipse2017. As soon as the event is over, Eclipse Megamovie will compile everyones smartphone footage into a continuous video showing the solar eclipse from start to finish. Watch their replay here: https://eclipsemega.movie

4) Astronomy.com

See what the eclipse looks like on the ground from Denver, Colorado. Astronomy will have its own 4K webcast right here on this site.
