Global Automotive Fuel Cell Market is Estimated to be 13.6 Thousand Units in 2020 & Projected to Reach 932.6 Thousand Units by 2028 -…

Europe is projected to have the highest growth rate in the automotive fuel cell market

The EU2020 focuses on increasing the demand for fuel cells by improving the infrastructure and decreasing the cost of fuel cells. Even though European companies lag behind their Asian counterparts in fuel cell technology development and patents, Europe is slowly shifting its focus on renewable sources of energy. Germany represents around 75% of all European demonstration activities due to the presence of a number of small and large companies such as Siemens Westinghouse, Proton Power Systems PLC, Heliocentris, and SFC Energy. As governments are shifting their fleet of buses from ICE vehicles to zero-emission vehicles, it would create massive opportunities for growth of the fuel cell bus segment in the region. Besides buses, countries like Norway and Switzerland will be key markets for fuel cell trucks.

The Young Guns – The Bay’s News First – SunLive

Posted: 8:00am Saturday 08 Feb, 2020

Xavier Daw and Riley James. Image Daniel Hines/SunLive.

Riley James has just turned 11, Xavier Daw is 15.

Theyre not widely recognized in the broad spectrum of youth sport. But James of Paraparumu and Daw of Queensland are being paraded proudly at the Tauranga Citizens Club this week as the future faces of their chosen craft. That of cue sports particularly snooker. They are the cueists the young guns.

And when the rest of Tauranga was seeking respite from 30 degrees Celsius of heatwave in the surf or swimming pool, James and Daw were at the table for the Oceania under 19 snooker tournament.

They were oblivious to global warming only interested in the heat that each other would bring to the table in this transtasman rivalry. Daw and James have similar stories to tell.

I got interested in snooker when Dad took me to the local RSA, says Riley.

I learned to play on an eight ball table at my Dads pub, says Xavier.

A commitment and lots of practice have lifted their game to an international level and perhaps to a professional career.

As young rugby players live in awe of Beauden Barrett and Sam Cane these guys model themselves on pros like the smooth and silky Aussie, Neil Robertson whos probably won in excess of $5 million as a professional, or Ronnie OSullivan and Judd Trump. James and Daw would prefer to play at Sheffields Crucible than Eden Park.

No, they dont want to be out in the sun, says Frank Dewens, president of the Australian Billiards and Snooker Council. They may be young but they know what they want to do and thats the big big thing.

And this year both James and Daw will be off to England, the spiritual home of snooker, to finesse their skills, to take them one further step towards professionalism maybe.

Snookers a lot more popular in England because of the climate its colder so people seek indoor sports.

Think of darts.

Whereas here in NZ young people are skateboarding or playing tennis and its harder to capture their imagination, says Frank.

And there is another issue the degree of difficulty.

Its enormous with our game. So you have to commit a lot of time and effort over the table.

And there arent too many in Oceania keen to do that.

Were happy with the state of the game in New Zealand, says Dan OSullivan, president of the New Zealand Billiards and Snooker Federation.

But he admits they couldnt always accommodate more players. There are probably about I000 registered players in the country, another 2000 in Australian. But that doesnt take into account the enormous popularity of cue sports as a casual sport.

There are ten players from either side of the Tasman competing in the Oceania Under 21 Championship at the Citz Club this week. And 16 of Oceania s finest women players are also competing. They are making inroads, there will also be a mixed-doubles contest.

In a couple of weeks in Australia there will be the open championship. Its snookers honey pot down under. The winner of that gets to play professionally for two years on the world circuit.

Neither Riley nor Xavier are expected to cut it this time round. But they are both sufficiently driven to have half an eye towards the outcome of that event. One day it could be their pass to a professional career.

Snooker in Australia and New Zealand is holding its breath.

Ryoma on Australia vs. NA LoL: "It’s a lot better here than Australia" – LoL – News – WIN.gg

Olivia R. February 9, 2020

100 Thieves were feeling quite confident after their win against Team Liquid yesterday. Unfortunately, that confidence didn't translate into a victory over Immortals. The loss leaves them with an even 3-3 record.

WIN.gg sat down with Tommy "Ryoma" Lee to talk about what they need to improve on, how they think next weekend will go, and kangaroos.

You guys beat TL yesterday. Were you expecting better results today?

Ryoma: Not really. We were going in with the same mindset of just doing our best. Just playing the game how its supposed to be played.

Yesterday, it seemed like you guys were going for a more aggressive playstyle. Why do you think that didnt work today against Immortals?

They just came in better prepared than Liquid did. What they did was pretty smart. They played better in-game.

What do you think the team needs to improve on to get to the top?

We just need to work on what we failed on today. That will be our focus heading into next weeks match. Focusing on the stuff we didnt do today, like early game. We had a really good early game against TL, but it was a different story today.

How are the teams in the LCS different from the teams in the Oceania region?

Its a lot different. Any team can play a lot of champs. In Oceania you can kind of tell how theyre going to pick. Everyone has smaller champion pools there so its easier to read what theyre going to do. Its harder in America. You cant plan out how its going to go as well.

How do you prepare for that?

Its kind of similar. Most people will still go with their comfort, though, or better picks. You can go off of that. But sometimes it can just change.

How long have you been in America?

Two months now.

How does Los Angeles compare to Australia?

Its a lot better than Australia, League of Legends-wise. I like Australia a lot. But for League of Legends, its a lot better here. Its treated more seriously.

LA itself has been pretty good. The weather has been quite different, but right now in Australia its not the best weather either.

How have you been liking the food?

I feel like I ate a lot already. In LA, they give really big portions. I dont finish my food. The burgers in Australia are not as big, the pizzas are smaller, too.

Ive heard that kangaroos are considered pests in Australia. Did you ever run into any trouble with them yourself?

In Sydney, I dont see much. Its mainly cities and suburbs. But I went to Brisbon one time and I saw them on the road. That was my first time seeing them on the road, jumping around.

Do you think you could take one on?

No, theres no way. I think they're supposed to be really strong.

What about in League?

Probably still no.

Who is the most talkative in-game?

I think Meteos. He normally communicates what he wants pretty well.

What about outside the game?

Same, Meteos as well. Hes pretty much our captain and leader. But when were talking outside of the game, I dont know who the leader would be.

Who is the most toxic?

Nobody. Everyone is pretty friendly. The environment has been pretty good. Everythings been pretty chill.

Who eats the most? I'm assuming it's not you.

Not me. Stunt does, if I recall.

Who has the worst taste in food?

Were not too picky. Everyone eats pretty standard stuff. Ssumday only eats Korean food sometimes.

What's your favorite food?

Steak and pho.

Who is the best singer?

Maybe our coach, Joe. Hes pretty good. Hes the only one I can remember singing something.

Can you sing?

No.

Who takes the longest to get ready?

I think its me. I am normally pretty late. I have to work on that one. Im just not good with time. Im always late when were leaving the apartment.

Who watches the most anime?

I think Stunt. I watch a bit here and there, but I havent been watching much lately. I only watch Haikyu!!, but that was before I got to LA. I even watched it on the plane ride.

How is the team going to celebrate Valentines Day?

I dont know. Im not sure what everyones relationships are but I know Cody Sun has a girlfriend.

If you could have any pet at the team's office, what would you prefer?

I would like a dog actually.

What kind?

A Pomernaion. I used to have one at home. He was pretty well behaved. He was always really dopey and slept a lot. He peed and pooed in the right places. He never barked that much, either. Except when we came back home, hed get excited.

How do you think your match againstDignitas will go next weekend?

I think Dignitas is a pretty good team from what Ive seen so far. They have weaknesses, you can see them. It depends on how much we will improve. We have to work on our issues and I think we can beat them.

Trump to seek nearly 8 percent cut in education spending – Politico

With help from Juan Perez Jr.

President Donald Trump is pitching a 7.8 percent cut to Education Department programs in the fiscal 2021 budget proposal he will release today, according to a budget summary obtained by POLITICO.

Some 30 states, from New York to Nebraska, are weighing competing proposals on student athlete compensation, with their legislative sessions in full swing. But many stakeholders are still waiting for Congress to step in.

Special Olympics, once targeted by the Trump administration for federal funding cuts, will be on the Hill for its annual lobbying day on Tuesday.

A message from ECMC Group:

February is Career and Technical Education Month (CTE). At ECMC Group, we are transforming the CTE space by delivering innovative education solutions at our Altierus Career Colleges, improving financial literacy among learners, and making advancements in college success and career readiness through grants and investments. Learn more.

ITS MONDAY, FEB. 10. WELCOME TO MORNING EDUCATION. Got news to share? Drop me a line at ngaudiano@politico.com. Share event listings: educalendar@politicopro.com. And follow us on Twitter: @Morning_Edu and @POLITICOPro.

ADMINISTRATION TO RELEASE BUDGET REQUEST: Trumps $66.6 billion request for the Education Department, representing a $5.6 billion cut from enacted levels, is part of a proposal that would cut billions of dollars in non-defense spending.

The proposed cuts to education programs are slightly less than last years. The full request is expected to be released midday today. Congress has the final say on spending. More from your host.

The budget comes as Trump ramps up his push for education proposals, including the Education Freedom Scholarships he promoted during his State of the Union address and that are included in his budget blueprint. The scholarship proposal, which Democrats oppose, would create a $5 billion federal tax credit for donations to scholarship-granting organizations to pay for students to attend private schools or expand their public education options.

Also during the speech, Trump highlighted a forthcoming career and technical education plan without offering details. He said the proposal would offer vocational and technical education in every single high school in America. In a proclamation last week, Trump said he would propose a significant increase to federal funding of career and technical education in his fiscal 2021 budget request, Michael Stratford reported.

Trumps fiscal 2020 budget request would have provided $64 billion for the Education Department, excluding a cancellation of $3.9 billion of surplus funds in the Pell Grant program. Excluding cancellations, Trumps budget proposal would have cut department funding by $7.1 billion or 10 percent compared with the 2019 enacted level. Congress instead gave the department a $1.3 billion bump.

COLLEGE SPORTS WANTS A NEW REFEREE: CONGRESS: California already passed a law that says NCAA players can make endorsements or pitch merchandise without risking their scholarships or eligibility. Now powerful university leaders, student athlete advocates and the NCAA are intensifying pressure on lawmakers to quickly settle how college players should be paid.

All 50 states soon could have separate rules about college superstars signing sneaker contracts or monetizing Instagram followers like the pros. Players might lend their faces to car dealership promotions, earn cash coaching sports camps or hire agents and lawyers to negotiate on their behalf.

Those pushing Congress to move say such a mishmash of state laws would create an uneven landscape for recruiting athletes. A school in one state could offer better options than a cross-border rival. The result might be monumental opportunities for young athletes, or as some NCAA officials argue, an existential crisis for college sports.

Even the NCAA acknowledges now that federal legislation is necessary, said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of a recently formed bipartisan Senate working group studying compensation for student athletes. To set some kind of federal standard, lawmakers will have to navigate a thicket of complex implications for tax, antitrust and gender equity laws. Check out Juans story for more.

COMING UP: A Senate subcommittee hearing set for Tuesday will bring NCAA President Mark Emmert, Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby and University of Kansas Chancellor Douglas Girod to Washington to lay out their views.

HBCU BILL ON TAP TODAY: The House will consider nine bills under suspension of the rules this afternoon, including H.R. 1494 (116), which aims to strengthen partnerships between historically black colleges and universities and minority-serving institutions and DHS.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS MOVES TO SHORE UP HILL SUPPORT: On Tuesday, 260 Special Olympics athletes from 46 states and D.C. are planning more than 300 meetings with members of Congress.

The organization said it will remain vigilant against any erosion of provisions in laws that have made a substantial difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities as Congress determines its budget and spending priorities for fiscal 2021.

Worth watching today is Trumps proposal for funding the organizations education programs, which he proposed eliminating in all of his budgets. After a social media outcry and backlash from Congress last year, Trump filed an amended request for funding. Congress ultimately boosted the program's funding by $2.5 million.

We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of support we received last year, spokesperson Rebecca Simon told POLITICO in a statement. Our athletes, coaches, and volunteers across the country are more energized than ever, and as we witnessed, they are our nations best, most powerful advocates for inclusion.

SANDERS ANNOUNCES GUN VIOLENCE ADVISER: A co-founder of the March for Our Lives movement joined Sen. Bernie Sanders' campaign as Gun Violence Prevention Advisor, the campaign announced on Saturday. Matt Deitsch will help organize around and expand the campaigns gun violence prevention platform.

The announcement came a day after Sanders (I-Vt.) took criticism from former Vice President Joe Biden during the New Hampshire debate for voting against background check legislation in the early 1990s and for voting in favor of a 2005 bill to shield gun manufacturers from liability lawsuits.

The world has changed, and my views have changed, Sanders said during the debate, noting that Vermont had virtually no gun control laws until two years ago. He called for universal background checks and ending the sale and distribution of assault weapons, among other things.

Deitsch, tweeting the campaigns announcement, wrote, The senators growth on this issue is representative of our nations growth. Gun violence prevention is a winning issue - its a life saving issue and this campaign is set out to save lives. Deitsch, 22, is a graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., where 17 people were killed in a 2018 mass shooting. He led messaging and strategy for the March for Our Lives 2018 electoral effort.

PARKLAND FAMILIES TO MEET WITH TRUMP TODAY: Trumps daily schedule includes a meeting with families from Parkland, Fla., in the Oval Office, less than a week before the two-year anniversary of the 2018 mass shooting.

The White House did not provide a list of the families who will attend. The meeting comes after Fred Guttenberg, the father of a student who died, was detained for disrupting Trumps State of the Union address last week. Guttenberg later apologized to his family and friends via Twitter for yelling out, but he also wrote, I simply want to be able to deal with the reality of gun violence and not have to listen to the lies about the 2A as happened tonight.

ABOUT THAT STUDENT TRUMP TAPPED FOR A SCHOLARSHIP: In case you missed it, the fourth grader whose story Trump used during his State of the Union address to highlight examples of students "trapped in failing government schools" already attends one of Philadelphia's most sought-after charter schools, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Friday.

Trump announced during his speech that Janiyah Davis would get a scholarship to attend the school of her choice a scholarship, it was later revealed, that would be directly paid for by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. But her mother, Stephanie Davis, told the Inquirer that she views Janiyah's current school as "a great opportunity" and that Janiyah isn't currently on a scholarship waiting list, as Trump said during his speech.

SPOTLIGHT ON HISTORY, CIVICS: A new bipartisan House bill aims to reauthorize and modernize a grant program under the Higher Education Act that focuses on American history and civic education. The USA Civics Act would authorize grants to college or university-nonprofit partnerships that promote the education of American political thought and history, as well as democracy and participation in civic and political life.

Introducing the bill were Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), Tom Cole (R-Okla.), Kim Schrier (D-Wash.), John Moolenaar (R-MI), Jim Himes (D-Conn.), and Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).

An Urban Institute case study evaluates Virginias colleges and universities and whether they actually help students graduate. Raw graduation rates dont show which schools improve students chances of earning a degree and which enroll students who are already likely to graduate, the study says. By adjusting for student characteristics that predict the likelihood of graduating (such as race, academic preparation, and Pell grant status), we can get closer to the real value that schools provide.

A message from ECMC Group:

Middle skill careers, which require education beyond a high school diploma but less than a four-year degree, comprise the largest part of Americas labor market. However, hiring shortfalls in these positions have led to an employment gap. We, at ECMC Group, are working to transform career and technical education through innovation to help close that gap throughout Career and Technical Education Month (CTE) and beyond.

Through a unique combination of philanthropic work, financial services and educational solutions, ECMC Group and its affiliates deliver outcomes that make a difference for individuals, organizations and communities. The mission of ECMC Group is to help students recognize and realize their potential by investing in, creating and providing innovative education solutions that support schools and improve student educational outcomes. Where the Democratic Candidates Stand on Medicare for All – The Fiscal Times

As Iowa Democrats prepare to pick their partys first winner in the presidential primary, the candidates approach to health care remains one of the most substantial and potentially divisive issues voters will have to face. Heres a brief review of where the candidates stand on Medicare for All, the proposed sweeping overhaul of the U.S. health-care system that has served as a point of contention during the campaign:

Bernie Sanders: The Vermont senator is the most vocal supporter of Medicare for All, which he says would end up saving money for the country overall, despite its enormous price tag. Sanders wants to ban private insurance and eliminate out-of-pocket spending for patients, while covering a wider array of services than the current Medicare system. The ambitious proposal would cost more than $30 trillion over 10 years, according to independent analyses, Reuters Joseph Ax writes.

Elizabeth Warren: The Massachusetts senator also supports Medicare for All and has released a detailed plan for financing it. Facing pushback on her proposal, Warren released a transition plan for moving to a single-payer system more gradually over several years. That proposal drew some criticism from the left, with Sanders supporters claiming she had backed down from her Medicare for All stance, Ax says. Warren has said she remains committed to Medicare for All and that her plan would provide more coverage to more Americans in a shorter time frame.

Joe Biden: The former vice president says he wants to expand the Affordable Care Act by offering a public option for insurance. His healthcare plan, estimated to cost $750 billion over 10 years and paid for partly by higher taxes on the wealthy, would let people enroll in a paid government healthcare plan as an alternative to private insurance, Ax writes.

Michael Bloomberg: The former mayor of New York City says Medicare for All is unaffordable and proposes to offer a public option for insurance that exists alongside the current employment-based system. His plan would cost $1 trillion over 10 years.

Pete Buttigieg: The former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has proposed a public option he describes as Medicare for all who want it. Buttigieg says that over time, that option would result in a single-payer system as more Americans sign up for cheaper and more efficient Medicare. His plan would cost $1.5 trillion over 10 years.

Amy Klobuchar: The centrist Minnesota senator says that Medicare for All is a pipe dream, and would instead offer a public option through either Medicare or Medicaid, paid for in part by raising taxes on the wealthy.

Andrew Yang: The tech entrepreneur says he supports the spirit of Medicare for All and wants to provide a public option to give people the freedom to leave their jobs. However, he does not want to ban private insurers.

Tom Steyer: The finance billionaire has proposed a public option that would cost $1.5 trillion over 10 years.

The IMF reports on the macroeconomic situation of the Gambia for the year 2019 – Freedom Newspaper

The IMF reports on the macroeconomic situation of the Gambia for the year 2019.

It is to be noted that GDP growth rate is not a direct measurement tool of the living condition of the general population. GDP rates do not take into consideration the level of poverty reduction, maladministration, corruption activities, capital flight, health, education and employment environment in a particular country. IMF and the WB are financial institutions, IMF being a budgetary support arm as well as financial and fiscal policy adviser and monitoring of the austerity measures to be implemented. The WB on the other hand is lender together with other international lenders use the IMF as a barometer and rating agency for foreign direct investment risk. IMFs role is not to fight against corruption, it is here to make sure that external government loans are catered and paid for. Please note that over 60% of government revenue goes to service external loans, this is huge considering that more loans are contracted in addition to the old ones. Wherever you see IMF and the WB in a country it simply means that country is not economically and financially self-sustainable. Therefor as mentioned above brandishing a good GDP growth rate is not an indicator of poverty reduction of the general population. However, GDP serves what it means in pure economic term, to whose benefit is another subject for discussion.

Now let us see bellow how to grow the GDP further in the Gambias case.

Within three year the Gambia registers a 6% GDP growth. In as much as it is laudable effort, the Gambian economy could enter the double-digit growth rate in the next three years if the following remarks are taken into accountseriously:

1- Beside Gamtel/Gamcel, GPTC, GNPC that compete with the private sector for market share, all other public corporations enjoy monopoly status in the Gambian economy. Those corporations that enjoy monopoly status are expected to do better year after year given that Yaya Jammehs hands are off their operations. In a monopoly environment no management should pound their chest for registering better financial performance on a yearly basis. Those public corporations that compete head on with the private sector and perform well deserve all rights to be given a tap on the back as they emerged doing good out of a competitive environment in the private sector.A new hard look by Government must be accorded to these competing corporations for them to perform better in the near future. Administrative regulations and burocratic red tape relaxations must be accordedthem to be on equal footing with their private sector competitors. You cannot tie ones legs and ask him to run, it does not make sense at all.

2- Trade in the Gambia should be encouraged to move the value chain into processing and packaging. For this graduation to be possible Government should consider reducing the electricity tariff for the new young industry. That way their products could compete the imported ones. There is no country in this world that has not gone thru industrialization protection for some time before opening up to import competition. There are two ways to protect local industry, either raise the import duty of the competing product whiles making sure domestic production meets the local demand or alternate duties when there is a gap in the supply and demand chain. Or ban the product importation to protect the locally madeproduct provided it is labor intensive thus creating more employment for the population. The second point will be fought by outside forces that will brandish the different treaties that Gambia is a signatory. It is fair to say that you cannot let a child compete with an adult and win. A choice can be made that sooths the best interest of the Gambian economy.

3- Gamtel/Gamcel be privatize forthwith, they are on the brink of the bankruptcy zone and face a stiff completion from the private sector telecom operators.Government should urgently adopt an innovative model of privatizing Gamtel/Gamtel by holding a minority share of say 20% giving 5% on loan to the staff for performance motivation and floating 10% to the general public buyers leaving 65% shares to the future strategic buyer. The above three way shareholding model is what made Sonatel of Senegal highly performing to the point of entering six West African markets within a period of 15 years. Doremember when Trust Bank was floated it quickly became the second biggest player in the Banking industry.

4- It is to be noted that trade balance between Gambia and Senegal used to be in Gambias favor from independence to 1992 due to the re-export trade but is now in Senegals favor. Black stone for construction, cement, fruits and vegetables, milk products and biscuits, local food spices, women artificial hair products etc. and of course the money transfers from Senegalese migrants resident in the Gambia made the balance tilt in favor of Senegal. For this reason, the Gambia should approach and insist on Senegal to open up more to Gambian cross border trade activitiesspecially our to traditional Sahelean countries. Remember Senegal protect few of their local industries against outside competition and rightly so. As mentioned above the Gambia should be encouraged to do the same for our future industries.

5- It is high time for the Gambia to think of building a railroad system from Brikama to Basse. This can be done on BOT basis with a foreign country or partner while making sure of our local private sectorparticipation in this new venture. China did it in Ethiopia and can be tapped for this huge project necessary for heavy transportation of goods and containers to the borderline with Senegal for onward transport to land luck countries in the Sahel. This project will greatly ease the road network load and reduce its maintenance cost whiles increasing its life span. More jobs and new businesses will be generated with the new railroad network.

Economist will agree with me that it is not always by increasing taxes that generate more revenue but rather by reducing them to attract a bigger volume of trade and services and a wider willing taxpayer to discharge their civic duties without feeling the pinch. Do remember that if Government invests the collected taxes on social projects and programs the citizens will be more proud and willing to pay their share of taxes.

It is a give and take scenario that encourages the population to contribute their share to national development.

Finally as always until otherwise, Gambians should become more business oriented and economic conscious as it is the only sure way to put food on the table, create employment, reduce poverty, increase prosperity and eliminate the back way syndrome.

Thank you.

Pa Njie Girigara.

Extension planned to breathe new life into A-listed Govan Old Church – Scottish Construction Now

Published 6 February 2020

Glasgows Govan Old Church could be adapted and extended to enable the A-listed building to be utilised as an events venue and public space.

Plans lodged by JM Architects on behalf of Govan Heritage Trust envisage the provision of office space, a toilet and a lift, which will allow the main church building to function as a venue for events such as weddings, concerts and other gatherings.

Others phases of the development include a low-lying new-build studio to the north, internal refurbishment of lower ground floor office space in the main church building, landscaping of the grounds and restoration of the main building.

A document submitted with the planning application stated: The extension to the main church building is envisioned as a cloister an enclosed space with an arcade around its perimeter, formed from hewn stone, which will be both sympathetic to the adjacent church whilst clearly distinguishing it as a modern intervention.

It said: It is intended that the office space will be future-proofed to allow for this space to become a cafe to service the main church building (which will itself eventually be realised as a visitor experience for the Govan Stones as well as a venue for events) should the business plan for the overall development require it.

As such, the proposals should be viewed as a piece of a much wider strategy which will see the area around Govan Old transformed with the extension providing flexibility to cater for the evolution of the site.

The statement added: With the construction of the pedestrian footbridge, Govan Old would lie at the end of what might be seen as a circuit of culture, extending into Glasgows West End along the Kelvin Walkway.

Along this route lie the Riverside Museum, Kelvin Hall and Kelvingrove Museum, with several of Glasgows other key cultural amenities, including the Hunterian Museum and Glasgow University, also being within walking distance.

With Glasgow City Council proposing to extend the Kelvin Walkway to the Clyde, Govan Old would also benefit from lying at the effective end of the Kelvin Walkway.

As such, the site presents the opportunity to add to and consolidate a cluster of cultural institutions whilst also providing a hub for visitors from which to explore these amenities and the wider Govan area.

Good afternoon. My name is Anna, and I will be your conference operator today. Welcome to the Anavex Life Sciences to announce fiscal 2020 first quarter financial results conference call. As a reminder, this conference call is being recorded. I would now like to introduce your host for today's conference, Clint Tomlinson. Please go ahead.

Clint Tomlinson, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Executive [2]

Thank you and good afternoon, everyone. We appreciate you joining us today for Anavex Life Sciences' conference call and webcast. Our agenda is to review the company's financial results for its first quarter of fiscal 2020 and provide a clinical study update. A taped replay of this call will be available approximately 2 hours after the call's conclusion and will remain available for 1 month. The call will also be available for replay on Anavex's website at http://www.anavex.com.

With us today is Dr. Christopher Missling, President and Chief Executive Officer; and Sandra Boenisch, Principal Financial Officer. Dr. Missling and Ms. Boenisch will make prepared remarks, and then we will take questions from equity analysts.

Before we begin, please note that during this conference call, the company will make some projections and forward-looking statements regarding future events. We encourage you to review the company's filings with the SEC. This includes, without limitation, the company's forms 10-K and 10-Q, which identify the specific factors that may cause actual results or events to differ materially from those described in these forward-looking statements. These factors may include, without limitation, risks inherent in the development and/or commercialization of potential products, uncertainty in the results of clinical trials or regulatory approvals, need and ability to obtain future capital and maintenance of intellectual property rights.

And with that, I'd like to turn the call over to Dr. Missling.

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [3]

Thank you. I'd like to thank everyone for joining us on today's conference call to review our first quarter financial results and share with you some clinical updates for ANAVEX 2-73 or blarcamesine.

We were pleased to announce earlier this week that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, FDA, has granted Fast Track designation for the ANAVEX 2-73 clinical development program for the treatment of Rett syndrome. FDA Fast Track is a program designed to facilitate and expedite the development and review of a new drug to address unmet medical need in the treatment of a serious and life-threatening condition for which it demonstrates the potential to address unmet medical needs for such a disease or condition. The purpose of the program is to get important new therapies to the patients earlier in order to address the unmet medical need in the treatment of serious and life-threatening diseases. Our clinical Rett Syndrome Program, RS-001 and RS-002, AVATAR, are on track with continued enrollment.

We continue to strengthen our patent position as well. During the quarter, we were granted another U.S. patent to support Anavex' leading drug candidate, ANAVEX 2-73, for the treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, including Rett syndrome and multiple sclerosis. This patent is expected to remain enforced at least until 2037, not including any patent term extensions. It covers methods of treatment for neurodevelopmental disorders, including Rett syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, Angelman syndrome and cerebral palsy, among others, and also treatment for multiple sclerosis using ANAVEX 2-73.

Regarding the ANAVEX 2-73 Parkinson's disease dementia study, we were pleased to report that we met our enrollment target for the study, the study enrollment over 100 patients at 20 sites across Spain and 3 sites in Australia. We expect to announce top line results from this study by mid-2020.

Enrollment for the Phase IIb/III ANAVEX 2-73 Alzheimer's disease study is 50% complete. Recruitment is expected to accelerate given the anticipated international expansion of the study, which will increase the total number of sites from 15 to approximately 45 in 2020.

We are reporting advancement of another pipeline compound. We have successfully completed IND-enabling toxicology studies and drug product manufacturing for ANAVEX 3-71. ANAVEX 3-71 previously received Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. FDA for frontotemporal dementia, FTD, and initiation of the first Phase I clinical trial of ANAVEX 3-71 is expected in 2020.

And now I would like to direct the call to Sandra Boenisch, Principal Financial Officer of Anavex, for a brief financial summary of the recently reported quarter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sandra Boenisch, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Principal Financial Officer & Treasurer [4]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you, Christopher, and good afternoon, everyone.

We reported a net loss of $6.6 million or $0.12 per share during the quarter compared to a net loss of $6.9 million or $0.15 per share in the comparable first quarter of fiscal 2019. The decrease in reported net loss is due to increased research and development incentive income.

Research and development expenses were $6.3 million for the first quarter of 2020 as compared to $5.7 million for the comparable period in 2019. This increase was driven by increased clinical development activities related to the advancement of our pipeline.

General and administrative expenses were $1.4 million for the first quarter of 2020 as compared to $1.8 million for the comparable period in 2019. This decrease was primarily due to lower noncash stock-based compensation charges.

During the quarter, our cash position grew to $27.5 million at December 31, 2019, from $22.2 million at our year-end September 30, 2019.

Thank you. And now I will turn the call back over to Christopher. Christopher, please go ahead.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [5]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In summary -- thank you, Sandra. In summary, we continue to make steady progress towards reaching several important milestones, and we are poised to an exciting 2020 with multiple data readouts. We look forward to providing further updates as advancements continue.

I would now like to open the call for questions. Operator, please go ahead.

================================================================================

Questions and Answers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Operator [1]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Operator Instructions) Our first question is from Raghuram Selvaraju from H.C. Wainwright.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edward Dean Marks, H.C. Wainwright & Co, LLC, Research Division - Equity Research Associate [2]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is Edward Marks on for Ram. Quickly, on the clinical side, I'm just wondering what the gating items are before you're able to initiate the pediatric Rett syndrome trial.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [3]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They are -- thank you for the question. There are no gating items. We did announce that we were able to get approval for starting the study. It is really the customary requirements of site initiation visits and preparing the drug to the sites, and then we can start. So I expect this to be over shortly, and we will make that announcement public.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edward Dean Marks, H.C. Wainwright & Co, LLC, Research Division - Equity Research Associate [4]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay. Good to hear. And you mentioned the recent patent announcement, and I noticed that multiple sclerosis was mentioned multiple times in there. I'm just wondering if you intend to or if other companies have shown interest in rapidly developing blarcamesine for multiple sclerosis. And I noticed that you also mentioned autism and cerebral palsy in there that are covered by the patent. So are these also planning to be pursued in the future?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [5]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So we did actually had encouraging data for MS from an in vitro study from several investigators, which was also presented at ACTRIMS last year or the year -- and the year before. And we have to be aware that -- or mindful that this is a very exciting indication and -- but however, still requires more preclinical work, like an animal study or other forms of validation. But I think the best way to look at this is once we get clarity on the data of Rett syndrome, we would immediately accelerate that program thereafter, and the same applies for the supranuclear palsy indication as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edward Dean Marks, H.C. Wainwright & Co, LLC, Research Division - Equity Research Associate [6]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got it. And then my final question, I was just wondering if there's any more detail available regarding the microbial biomarker analysis for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. And when do you anticipate releasing some of this data?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [7]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So we did get -- received an initial positive signal from the Phase IIa study in Alzheimer's disease that there was a correlation of the gut microbiota changes with drug exposure, and we added this measure into our Parkinson's disease dementia study extension. So we will be able to report this with the Parkinson's dementia study extension outcome where we will be able to see the level of changes in measures of gut microbiota before drug exposure and after as well as for patients on placebo and then on drug -- active drug. So we will have a very good ability to see if we will be able to confirm the correlation of drug effect with increase of variety of gut microbiota, which is the beneficial effect since healthy volunteers have a higher variety of gut microbiome than diseased patients.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Operator [8]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our next question is from Yun Zhong from Janney.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yun Zhong, Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, Research Division - Equity Research Analyst & Director of Biotechnology Research [9]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the first question is on the status of the 2 ongoing Rett syndrome studies. I believe I heard you said that the 2 studies are still enrolling patients. And I'm wondering, did you run into any challenges in recruiting patient in addition to the fact that just being an orphan indication with the small prevalence?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [10]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry. What was the last part of the question?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yun Zhong, Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, Research Division - Equity Research Analyst & Director of Biotechnology Research [11]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I understand that this is an orphan indication with a small prevalence. But did you run into any additional challenges in recruiting patients into those 2 studies?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [12]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No, we did not. We just want to make sure that the patients are recruited in a fashion that the right patients are in the study because that study now becomes relevant given that we received Fast Track designation. And so our goal is not to rush the enrollment and make sure we get the right patients into the study. But we did not find any challenges during this -- at this point.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yun Zhong, Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, Research Division - Equity Research Analyst & Director of Biotechnology Research [13]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay. Then about the Parkinson's disease dementia study, so I believe that primary efficacy end point is the continuity of ATTENTION. So I assume that you're reporting where you see positive data by mid-2020. Are you going to approach the FDA to discuss about the next step? And do you think the same primary end point will likely be used in the next study?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [14]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. So the second question regarding seclusion is a little bit a dialogue with the agency to see if this would be able to be confirmed. But the good news is that the measure you mentioned has been shown to be correlated with a drug, which was approved for Parkinson dementia many years ago. So that is the reason why we picked that measure. And indeed, it's correct to make that assumption. After the data is available, we would sit down with the agency and discuss next steps.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yun Zhong, Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, Research Division - Equity Research Analyst & Director of Biotechnology Research [15]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay. So then the last question about the new compound 3-71, what do you expect will be the indication that you pursue with this compound? And how do you plan to position the new compound as compared to the 2-73 -- sorry, 2-73, yes?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christopher U. Missling, Anavex Life Sciences Corp. - Chairman, President, CEO & Secretary [16]

Elon Musk tweets out #DeleteFacebook, adding simply, its lame – TechCrunch

Facebook receives plenty of pointed criticism from numerous corners, including for refusing to police political speech on Facebook, its seemingly endless string of privacy breaches, and its apparent coziness of late with the Trump administration.

One of the platforms most prominent critics, somewhat unexpectedly, has become comic, writer, and actor Sacha Baron Cohen. Indeed, his powerful speech to the Anti-Defamation League in November, characterizing Facebook as the greatest propaganda machine in history, quickly went viral. (We republished it here.)

Cohen isnt done railing against Zuckerberg, however. Last Wednesday, he tweeted in frustration, We dont let 1 person control the water for 2.5 billion people. We dont let 1 person control electricity for 2.5 billion people. Why do we let 1 man control the information seen by 2.5 billion people? Facebook needs to be regulated by governments, not ruled by an emperor!

On Saturday morning, Tesla founder Elon Musk responded to Cohen, himself tweeting #DeleteFacebook its lame.

It was short, sweet, and to the point (and presumably buoyed Cohen).

One might imagine that Musk, who has always spoken his mind, has been emboldened of late thanks to the skyrocketing value of Tesla. But Musk has long been a critic of Facebook, tweeting in 2018 after deleting his companies Facebook pages that he doesnt like Facebook. Gives me the willies. Sorry.

Musk and Zuckerberg have butted heads in the past over the future of artificial intelligence, too. In 2014, Musk reportedly met with Zuckerberg, researchers from Facebooks then-new AI lab, and two other Facebook executives at Zuckerbergs Palo Alto home in an effort to convince Musk that he was wrong about the potential dangers of AI. Musk wasnt persuaded, and he didnt change his mind, calling Zuckerbergs understanding of the future of AI limited in 2017.

What Cant Elon Musk Do? (Other Than Routinely Make Enough Cars) – Dealbreaker

If theres anything that Elon Musk loves more than sticking it to those mean awful short sellers in the most spectacular way possible, its, uh, no, wait, forget it, theres nothing he likes better. Or even comes close. But if theres something thats definitely his second-favorite thing, its not definitely not actually delivering cars to customers ahead of schedule rather than years behind. No, its beating David Solomon to the top of the EDM charts.

I dont hate myself enough to listen to Dont Doubt ur Vibe, but if youd like to help Elon outpace Roddy Ricch and some other people Ive never heard of, and also make David Einhorns year a little worse, Id welcome some reviews in the comments. Especially from you, Mr. President.

He urged followers to report any suspicious activity as soon as they see it in order to prevent people from falling for the scams.

Twitter could also take lessons from Google, he suggested, by dropping the prominence of malicious accounts.

"Trolls/ bots just need to be deemphasized relative to probably real people who aren't being paid to push an agenda or scam," he wrote. "Google still shows bs/ scam pages, they're just several clicks away."

The issue was raised at a recent employee conference at Twitter, when Elon Musk appeared via video link to respond to Jack Dorsey'squestion about how to improve the platform.

Musk said it would be helpful to differentiate between real and fake users in order to protect the integrity of Twitter and restore trust in its users.

"Basically, how do you tell if the feedback is real or someone trying to manipulate the system, or probably real, or probably trying to manipulate the system," he said.

"What do people actually want, what are people actually upset about versus manipulation of the system by various interest groups."

Musk is not the only high-profile Twitter user to be targeted by such scams, with many figures within the cryptocurrency community also impersonated.

The founder of ethereum, VitalikButerin, has consistently called on Twitter to come up with a solution, as well as cryptocurrency advocate John McAfee.

Twitter has rules in place to prevent its users from being impersonated and claims to have cracked down on scams by implementing various tools.

"We're constantly adapting to bad actors evolving methods, and have made improvements in combating cryptocurrency scams on the platform," a spokesperson toldThe Independent.

"If we see content that is violative of our Financial Scams Policy we take action. We will continue to iterate and improve upon this policy and the industry evolves."

Elon Musk’s SpaceX clears first hurdle to Australian broadband market – The Guardian

Elon Musks SpaceX satellite broadband service has taken its first step into the Australian market. The communications regulator has added the company to a list of satellite operators allowed over Australian airspace.

But Foxtel has raised concerns the service might conflict with its subscription TV service.

The SpaceX Starlink currently has 242 satellites deployed above earth, which it plans to expand to a constellation of 7,518 low-earth orbit satellites.

The company launched 60 satellites into space last month, and plans to launch around 60 per fortnight in 2020.

It is aiming to have services operating in northern parts of the US and in Canada in 2020, and then near-global coverage of the populated world by 2021.

Late last month, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (Acma) added SpaceX and two other companies to the Radiocommunications (Foreign Space Objects) Determination that governs what satellite companies can operate in Australia.

Much remains a mystery about what Starlinks internet services will be like in reality. In a November 2016 filing with the US federal communications commission (FCC), SpaceX said it would be able to offer speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second for users, at low cost.

SpaceX being added to the list of satellite operators in Australia is the first stage in the regulatory process. The company still needs to obtain more regulatory approvals, and eventually a licence to use spectrum for the satellites to communicate.

That licence is likely to be a matter of contention. Australias subscription television company has indicated it could potentially be in conflict with its own satellite TV service.

In a submission to the Acmas proposal, News Corp-owned TV service Foxtel said it had very high levels of concern about potential interference of its service to satellite customers if SpaceX and another company, Kepler, are allowed to use the same Ku frequency band that Foxtel operates in.

Given the potential catastrophic business impact of interference, the need to protect existing [geostationary orbit] systems from these new [non-geostationary orbit] constellations must be a priority for the Acma going forward.

In its submission to the FCC, SpaceX said it would have flexibility to share that spectrum with other licensed satellite and terrestrial users.

The difficulty facing SpaceX is that customers will need to buy antennas to connect to the satellites, and some have questioned whether that would be affordable for most, or whether it would be commercially viable, given the project would not only compete with other satellite operators but 5G networks and fixed-line internet providers.

Musk has said they will be about the size of a pizza box, easy to install, and simple to use, and between US$100 ($149) and US$300 ($447). But one analyst, Tim Farrar, has suggested it could cost US$1,000 ($1,488) alone.

In Australia, the biggest competitor would be the government-owned NBN Cos two satellites, currently servicing over 96,000 homes and businesses in regional and rural Australia. The speeds offered on NBNs satellites are significantly less than that promised on Starlink.

The NBN satellites are currently five years into their fifteen-year lifespan. The company has flagged it will need to start considering options in five years for how to replace the satellites and has suggested it could consider a SpaceX-style system in the future.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Price Surges 14% as Halvening Nears – CCN.com

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) gained 14% on Wednesday, with the majority of the growth occurring in a short four-hour burst. The bitcoin fork led the way in the market cap top ten, as the broader cryptocurrency market experienced a $12 billion influx.

Almost exactly $1 billion of that figure went straight into bitcoin cash. From Tuesdays low of $375.03, the unit value of BCH rose to $430.09.

That equated to 14.7% growth, and saw the coins market cap climb from $6.8 billion to $7.8 billion. For now, that cements bitcoin cashs fourth place position in the market cap rankings, just weeks after it was temporarily displaced by bitcoin SV (BSV).

CoinMarketCap reported $4.4 billion worth of trade volume for BCH on the day up 41% from $3.1 billion 24 hours earlier. A more conservative estimate from Nomics places transparent volume at $226 million up 45% from yesterday.

Wednesdays surge compounds 91% growth for the month for BCH. Measuring its performance since Decembers market low, we see 147% growth over nine weeks.

While bitcoin cash benefited most from the markets rising tide on Wednesday, observers still had cause to be surprised. The coins community has been locked in heated debate for nearly two weeks concerning an internal development fund.

The BCH tax fund was initially deemed an imposition by a large section of its community. After an anonymous group of miners threatened to hard fork away from the taxed chain, the tax plan was apparently pulled back to the discussion stage.

One positive outlook for bitcoin cash may involve the coins halvening, which is scheduled for Apr. 8. Thats just over a month before bitcoins (BTC) own halving, and may help explain why BCH has outperformed many of its peers of late.

An analogous situation can be seen with bitcoin SV, which is also due to halve its block rewards in April. The coin led by the self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto, Craig Wright, gained 456% from Decembers low. After a significant pullback, the coin retains 254% growth over the past nine weeks.

Bitcoin and Altcoins Dips Present Buying Opportunity – Cryptonews

This past week, bitcoin price remained in a strong uptrend above the USD 9,550 and USD 9,850 resistance levels. Recently, BTC/USD traded to a new 2020 high close to USD 10,200 before starting a downside correction. However, there are many supports on the downside near USD 9,550 and USD 9,550.

Similarly, most major altcoins are currently (09:00 UTC) correcting gains, including ethereum, XRP, litecoin, bitcoin cash, EOS, TRX, ADA, and XLM. Conversely, BNB is up more than 8% and it broke the USD 25.00 resistance area. ETH/USD tested the USD 230 resistance area and recently corrected below USD 225. Besides, XRP/USD seems to be facing a strong resistance near the USD 0.285 and USD 0.288 levels.

After testing the USD 10,200 resistance, bitcoin price started a downside correction. BTC/USD broke the USD 10,000 area and even dipped below USD 9,850. It traded close to the USD 9,650 support and currently climbing higher. On the downside, the main weekly support is near USD 9,550, below which there is a risk of a larger decline. On the upside, the USD 10,200 and USD 10,250 levels are weekly hurdles. A successful break above the USD 10,250 level might open the doors for a larger wave towards USD 10,500.

Ethereum price remained strong and it climbed above the USD 220 resistance. ETH/USD even tested the USD 230 level before correcting lower. It tested the USD 220 support and currently consolidating. The main supports are near USD 212 and USD 210.On the upside, the USD 230 level is a weekly pivot zone. Zero Chance Wikipedia Will Ever Use Bitcoin SV, Says Jimmy Wales – Cointelegraph

Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales has expressed skepticism regarding top-10 digital currency Bitcoin SV (BSV), claiming that the coin offers nothing for Wikipedia.

Wales made his statement right after the team behind the CoinGeek London conference which promotes Bitcoin SV to stakeholders announced his participation as a keynote speaker.

Until the emergence of Bitcoin SV (BSV) to reclaim Bitcoins original design, no blockchain had the scalability to power micropayments to efficiently reward better user information and handle the staggering amount of data Wikipedia carries, the speaker announcement read. However, Wales responded with a tweet on Feb. 7, saying:

Your marketing materials need to be updated immediately as people seem to be reading this as some kind of endorsement from me. I'm coming to speak my mind, which includes that BSV offers nothing for Wikipedia and that there is zero chance we would ever use it.

The tweet has been liked by over 1,000 people at press time and has aroused mixed reactions throughout the crypto community as some commentators questioned Waless intention to attend the conference.

Just recently, Bitcoin SV performed a scheduled upgrade named Genesis on Feb. 3, which resulted in a minor chain split where two versions of BSV exist at the time. Genesis changes many of the consensus rules for BSV to remove all remaining limitations.

The block size is now effectively unlimited. Instead of being hard-coded in the node software, the block size limit is now a parameter that miners can reduce manually. Many other limits were raised as well, such as the maximum size of a transaction or the number of owners for a multisig wallet.

While Bitcoin Cash is the first major hard fork of Bitcoin created back in August 2017, Bitcoin SV is a subsequent hard fork of Bitcoin Cash and associated with the self-proclaimed creator of Bitcoin, Craig Wright, who has recently been accused of confusing the ongoing trial proceedings.
