The Guardians of the Galaxy are fighting among themselves when they should be worried about what happens when Moondragons fight.

It's no secret that the Guardians of the Galaxy have seen better days. Any goodwill within the team died with Peter Quill, and now the Guardians are split into two separate teams, with Gamora, Groot, Drax and Moondragon on one and Rocket, Nova, Marvel Boy, Phyla-Vell and an alternate reality version Moondragon on the other. Unfortunately, the galaxy just isn't big enough for two sets of Guardians, and the teams wind us clashing in the most recent issue. While this happens, however, a new threat emerges in the form of the original Moondragon which might unite the team - if it doesn't destroy them first.
The issue begins with Gamora's team accepting a job from Blackjack O'Hare, one of Rocket Raccoon's frequent rivals. In order to protect his interest, Blackjack dispatches the team to kill his rival Rocket, unaware the other Guardians are responding to a major threat on Blackjack's planet. With Nova still recovering from battle injuries and the alternate reality Moondragon connecting the team telepathically, that leaves Marvel Boy on the ground while Rocket and Phyla-Vell provide the distraction. Marvel Boy finds the threat - a power station modeled after Galactus no less that essentially monetizes stolen life energy.

Marvel Boy infiltrates the station, only to be attacked by Drax and Blackjack's ally, Prince of Power. Marvel Boy takes down Prince of Power with exploding fingernailsand then drops Drax using psychedelic spit. Unfortunately, Marvel Boy's myriad abilities - which include quantum swapping with Hercules - do little against Gamora's laser focus. The issue ends with Moondragon's telepathy being disrupted by the OG Moondragon. As the teaser for the next issue indicates, Moondragon "can't be a hero" all the time, and it's possible the Dragon of the Moon might complicate the efforts of both teams, and perhaps, give them a much-needed common enemy.
Between Galactus-shaped power plants and exploding fingernails, Al Ewing's run has certainly breathed new life into everyone's favorite intergalactic misfits. The shakeup to the team's lineup is also a welcome departure, but the split focus between two teams does prove to be jarring at times. Hopefully, this recent collision will ultimately lead to the teams merging into some sort of uneasy peace - assuming the conflict between dueling Moondragons reaches a satisfying conclusion. For now, it seems the original Moondragon - a character with a dark and complicated past - is taking on her benevolent, alternate reality counterpart, and if the teaser for the next issue is any indication, the 616 version of Moondragon might wind up on the dark side.
