In May, Herald columnist Chuck Haga made an appeal: I hope there will be a new respect for science, facts and truth. Agreed. Lets start with the denial of a basic, inalienable right, from which all other rights flow.

CNN aired a June segment that ran afoul of approved pro-abortion talking points and phraseology within corporate news media. They called an unborn baby an unborn baby void of partisan euphemisms. It passed muster because it served the Black Lives Matter insurgency.

The guest was Ebony Chisholm, who had written an op-ed titled A Letter to My Beautiful, Black Unborn Baby in the Hartford Courant. Chisholm read the 750-word piece on air, describing the development of her baby based on medical science shedding light on the humanity of the unborn to an audience that probably rarely gets that perspective.

Your Dad and I should be thinking about who you will look like more, when will we feel you kick for the first time.

Any Black child in the womb has a far greater chance of being aborted than murdered by racists. Black babies are aborted at more than three times the rate of white babies. In 2014, 259,336 black lives were snuffed out before they could breathe thats more than the top 15 leading causes of deaths among African Americans combined.

Making up 13% of the population, 40% of the nations abortions are committed on African Americans. What percentage of the dead were female? The bulk of that killing occurs at Planned Parenthood facilities, founded by racist and eugenicist Margaret Sanger, who advocated the selective breeding of the finest flowers to prevent human weeds. Her 1939 Negro Project reflects that perspective.

Bostons Art Commission voted unanimously to remove the citys copy of a statue depicting a formerly enslaved man at the feet of the great emancipator Abraham Lincoln, while a statue of Sanger remains undisturbed in that city. Apparently, an image of Lincoln and emancipation and a freed slave is traumatic, while Sangers appalling racism and the killing of millions of Black babies isnt.

They have tried everything to get him out of office, all with lies and distortion. Here are some questions and facts.

Are you proud of President Barack Obama, who directed the spying of Americans, including Trump, while trying to undermine a national election? Are you proud the former president represented the most corrupt administration in American history? Are you proud he orchestrated a silent coup along with James Comey,John Brennan, Peter Strzok, Hillary Clinton and others to overthrow Trump?

Are you proud of killing full-term babies and selling human body parts, making billions for an evil organization originally founded on using eugenics to purify the population?

Democrats evidently applaud this because most of them support it financially and verbally.

Even Jesse Jackson said in 1977, What happens ... to the moral fabric of a nation that accepts the aborting of the life of a baby without a pang of conscience?

Are you proud of their anti-police platform? When are the Democrat leaders like Joe Biden going to condemn this fascist anarchy lawlessness? Where are we going to live: in a country of law and order or a liberal lawless society run by mobs and thugs?

Biden has trouble putting coherent sentences together. Hes been in government for five decades and has accomplished nothing. Hes camped out in his basement listening to advisors who fear his gaffes and constant stammering. And he wants to be president. Liberal Democrats the only thing you should fear on Nov. 3 is the truth.

First, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, when formerly serving of Secretary of State, did everything he could to keep hundreds of thousands of Black and Hispanic voters in Georgia from having their votes counted or even being able to vote at all.

In the months running up to his own race for governor, he conducted massive purges of the voting rolls, closed polling places in Black and Hispanic neighborhoods, and refused to certify the recent voter registrations of about 50,000 African Americans.

Now it appears hes decided that if he can't prevent Black and Hispanic people from voting he should just help them die.

Kemp, like the entire nation, learned on April 7, when the New York Times and the Washington Post both ran front page stories about it, that Black and Hispanic people were dying at disproportionate rates from Covid-19.

No doubt purely by coincidence, that was also the week that everyone from right wing talk show hosts to major rightwing influencing groups to the Trump administration all pivoted from concern and caution about the coronavirus to the message, "It's time to open America back up and do it now!"

Trump tweeted "Liberate!" And white guys with guns and Nazi and Confederate flags showed up in state capitols to demand that all those disproportionately minority front-line workers get back to work.

It was as if the racists across the country, and Steven Miller and Donald Trump in the White House, figured out that if they wanted to actually reduce America's Black and Hispanic population, this was their chance. They could use this virus to, "Make America white again."

Call it the "Republican Party's 21st Century Eugenics" program?

Doubling down on this apparent strategy, yesterday Gov. Kemp officially banned cities in Georgia from enforcing their own face mask requirements.

Georgia cities with large Black and Hispanic populations like Savannah and Atlanta had passed mask ordinances and their mayors were trying to enforce them.

But Kempbacked by Trump's political muscle and authorityjust put an end to all that.

As Georgia's hospitals are reaching capacity and the virus is ripping through communities of people who can't easily telecommute or work from home, the governor is taking an official step that could dramatically increase infection and death rates among low income and minority people across the state.

It's hard to imagine that elected public officialseven those who won with the help of fraud like Kemp and Trumpwould be so craven as to engage in policies that specifically target minority groups for illness and death.

There has to be another explanation, right?

Private Companies Are Powering the Future of Aerospace – The WasteWatcher

American aerospace has long been dominated by a handful of entrenched firms, enabled by institutional biases and preferentially written contracts. The end result has too often been inflated prices and a lack of innovation. Fortunately, vast private sector investment has begun to change the status quo.

While the push for competition in space seems relatively new, the idea has been around at least since the 1984 Presidents Private Sector Survey on Cost Control under President Reagan, better known as the Grace Commission. The commissions recommendations included an increase in private participation in the commercial uses of space and a shift in responsibility to private industry for launch vehicles. Since then, the cost overruns and delays in programs managed by legacy contractors have helped to open the door for greater competition in the space launch market.

The commercial space industry reached several critical milestones in 2020. On April 30, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that three private companies Blue Origin, Dynetics, and SpaceX were selected to design and develop lunar landing systems for the agencys Artemis program. In addition, on May 30, SpaceX successfully launched American astronauts from U.S. soil for the first time since the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011. NASA had previously been relying on the Russian Soyuz program to deliver astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). At $55 million per astronaut, SpaceX costs 36 percent less than the $86 million charged by Russia.

NASA has awarded contracts to convey astronauts to the ISS over the next decade to SpaceX and Boeing, which has long dominated the space launch industry. According to a November 14, 2019 NASA Office of Inspector General (OIG) report, NASA will pay Boeing $90 million per astronaut for a ride to the ISS, or $4 million more than it was paying to Russia.

Beyond providing savings, SpaceX has proven more reliable. During its December 20, 2019 maiden launch to the ISS, Boeings unmanned Starliner crew capsule was unable to dock. On February 6, 2020, a NASA safety review panel found that Boeing averted a catastrophic failure unrelated to its failure to dock. On April 6, 2020, Boeing stated that it would rerun the test flight prior to transporting astronauts. One month earlier, SpaceX successfully completed its 20th ISS resupply mission.

SpaceX has become a major player in the National Security Space Launch program (NSSL), which carry satellites into orbit for the countrys security agencies. However, it was initially blocked from bidding, and only an April 2014 lawsuit opened up the competition. The company is one of four being considered in the next round of NSSL launch contracts, with two winners set to split 34 launches over five years. Joining SpaceX in the competition are Blue Origin, Northrop Grumman, and United Launch Alliance, a joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

The lunar lander competition was not only noteworthy for its award to three private companies, but also because NASA eliminated Boeing from consideration. Out of the three firms chosen for the 10-month selection process, Blue Origin received a majority of the initial funding. Remarkably, the entirety of Blue Origins development costs thus far have been covered privately.

While Boeing is not going to build the lunar lander, the company is responsible for developing the Space Launch System, the rocket that will transport the lander and crew to the Moon. Unfortunately, a March 10, 2020 NASA OIG report found costs could balloon from the initial estimate of $35 billion to more than $50 billion as a result of a litany of technical problems. Making matters worse, Boeing has a cost-plus contract, meaning taxpayers are responsible for additional expenses.

The main argument for the old guard of aerospace had long been reliability, but this no longer holds water. The successes of SpaceX and the inclusion of new entrants in NSSL contracts and lunar lander development are positive signs for the future of U.S. spaceflight. Unlike agreements with legacy contractors, where the government paid a significant portion of development costs, these companies should be allowed to maintain control over their intellectual property.

Additional steps should be taken to remove remaining barriers to entry in all future contracts in order to achieve maximum cost savings and performance. In this new era of U.S. aerospace, the stars are the limit, and the savings could be astronomical, as long as the federal government continues to let the private sector thrive and innovate.

DfAM takes aerospace to new heights – 3DPMN

When you talk about additive manufacturing in the aerospace industry, it is impossible not to discuss design. Design is one of if not the most important driving factors behind AMs benefits in the development of aerospace parts. Design is what enables innovation in lightweighting and gains in performance efficiency. In a word, design is critical.

Considering this, we felt it important to not only consider AM in aerospace from the hardware and aerospace sides, but also from the perspective of engineering design software we should note here that here our definition of design also encompasses simulation and manufacturing analysis. To shed some light onto the power of engineering design for aerospace applications, we spoke to Ryan OHara, the Technical Director of Aerospace and Defense at nTopology Inc.

nTopology will be a familiar name to many in the industry, as it is one of the leading engineering software companies specializing in design for additive manufacturing (DfAM). In 2019, the New York-based company launched nTop Platform, a complete engineering workflow that is offered through an annual subscription mode.

Modern design engineering ecosystems are continually trying to pull more information forward in the process in an effort to enable engineers to make use of downstream knowledge early in the design process, OHara explained. This is especially important in advanced manufacturing applications, where the downstream manufacturing process can have a significant impact on design decisions from the onset of the design process.

nTop Platform provides a common foundation so that engineers across a number of disciplines including design, simulation and manufacturing can capture their own piece of the process, send it upstream (or downstream) and leverage that of others at any point. Additionally, various pieces of workflow knowledge can be configured into a larger process or application on top of the platform, providing a top-level design engineering environment that captures the work, skill and engineering know-how of each design team member.

From a design perspective, nTop Platform enables users to generate AM-optimized geometries through its AM Toolkit, which combines topology optimization algorithms and field-driven design technology. In practice, this means that parts can be designed to only have material where it is needed, while still meeting performance specifications and manufacturing limitations (i.e. overhang angles, wall thicknesses, etc).

OHara states: The three key drivers that set nTopology apart from other software vendors are: unbreakable modeling technology that allows for lightning-fast iterations and unlimited geometric complexity; field driven design that uses geometry, simulation and manufacturing fields to drive geometric design to optimize the part; and the ability to create workflows that can be reused, shared, remixed and automated.

nTop Platform has provided a combination of workflows that directly facilitate DfAM process steps. These include workflows for lightweighting, architected materials and direct export of slice data to certain build processes. nTop Platform also allows users to deploy their own workflows within a company. In one instance, an experienced AM manufacturing engineer was able to leverage nTop Platform to configure a workflow that could be used as a time and cost estimator and shared with a team of design engineers. As such, the design engineers could see in near real-time the effects of their design decisions on the downstream AM processes.

nTop Platform is easily integrated with existing CAD, CAE and CAM platforms, to facilitate seamless workflows for its clients. nTop Platform embraces the most useful aspects of CAD, CAE, CAM and topology optimization, and it integrates with all modern engineering systems, OHara says. It also adds a new layer of control and governance for reliable, consistent and validated results without the need for human involvement at every step.

Today, more than 30% of nTopologys clients are from the aerospace industry, and the companys nTop Platform is in use at some of the worlds largest aerospace firms to assist in the development of new and innovative parts. The platforms appeal comes in large part from its design capabilities, as well as its efficient workflow.

In todays design environment, engineers are tasked with having to produce higher performing parts with a given design volume, OHara explains. They are asked to do this on shorter and shorter design cycles, all while making their components lighter.

Looking specifically at the benefits of nTop Platform and additive manufacturing in aerospace, OHara identifies three key areas: the maximization of part performance, the consolidation of design and the production of lighter parts.

nTop Platform and AM fundamentally enable three specific areas for the aerospace industry, he elaborates. First, the ability to maximize part performance in a way that was not previously possible with traditional design and manufacturing methods by allowing for the generation and fabrication of complex shapes that have direct effects on the fundamental function of the component. Second, consolidation of design: by decreasing the number of sub-components and making the parts multi-functional it allows for fewer components, reduced assembly time and more reliable systems. Third, aerospace components can be improved by using geometry that uses material more efficiently through optimization algorithms, periodic structures and field-driven design methods to produce lighter parts.

Compared to other engineering software solutions, nTop Platform stands out in a critical way. That is, while most modeling environments are built to document an engineering solution, nTop Platform actually creates one. nTopology integrates mathematics and simulation to create a single environment without geometry bottlenecks, OHara says. nTop Platform allows engineers to fully utilize their computers to understand and solve hard problems.

Anytime the barriers to design and subsequent manufacturing can be removed, there will always be a benefit to the designer, manufacturer and, ultimately, the end-user. nTopologys fundamental goal is to allow engineers to be able to generate geometry without limitations. When these parts can be quickly and easily realized in the physical space, huge opportunities become available for all those individuals involved in the design process.

In the aerospace sector, there are a vast number of parts that can be designed, redesigned and optimized using AM, from engine components to interior cabin structures. According to OHara, however, one of the part groups that will benefit the most from additive manufacturing is heat exchangers.

Far and away the biggest limitation to air and space components is the mitigation and handling of heat, he explains. Heat from a turbine engine, electronic device or working fluid often needs to be transported in a way that ensures the critical engineering process that the heat comes from can be maintained. Heat exchangers are fundamental to these processes and require complex internal geometries to be effective. nTopology and AM are able to deliver huge gains in performance by increasing surface and decreasing wall thickness to enable the exchange of heat in ways that are simply not possible with traditional design and manufacturing processes.

In one example, nTopologys software was used in combination with ANSYS CFX to redesign a Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC). The report, which can be read in full here, details the process from initial redesign in CAD, to process steps in nTop Platform and to final Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and analysis steps in ANSYS CFX.

The part in question is a high-performance heat exchanger (HEX) used in the aerospace industry, which exchanges heat between the engine oil and the fuel of an aircraft. The design was inspired by a project led by America Makes aimed at leveraging AM to redesign a legacy shell and tube HEX to determine whether advanced design and manufacturing could increase performance.

In this case, nTop Platform enabled engineers to define a volume for the part which could act as a basis for the modified FCOC design, maximizing surface area while minimizing mass in its interior walls. The surface area of the part was maximized using a Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS), also known as gyroid structure. By implementing this structure in the heat exchanger design, the team achieved a 146% increase in surface area compared to traditional tube and shell HEX of the same size.

When coupled with advanced manufacturing methods, these TPMS structures enable parts with both high strength and heat dissipative requirements to be designed in a manner that was previously impossible to achieve, says OHara.

The wall thickness of the component was minimized thanks in large part to the use of a nano-functionalized high-strength 7000 series aluminum alloy (7A77), which was developed specifically for AM. The superior strength of the metal enabled thinner interior walls in the part without sacrificing strength or performance. In fact, the gyroid structure has walls about half the thickness of those made from traditional casting-grade aluminum alloys for AM. Overall, the increased surface area and minimized wall thickness of the FCOC resulted in a 300% increase in heat transfer compared to the legacy component.

All this was achieved using nTop Platform with the support of ANSYS CFX capabilities, which provided computational fluid dynamics simulation to evaluate the performance of the redesigned FCOC. The software company concludes: nTop Platform allows the user to create complex geometries (TPMS structures, fluid volumes, smooth lattice-solid transitions), while maintaining complex control over the geometric model, and then easily allows the user to export the geometry outside of nTop Platform for validation and verification.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that additive manufacturing is unlocking new application opportunities in the aerospace industry, through the production of more efficient and often higher performing parts. As weve seen, additive manufacturing systems are not unlocking these capabilities on their own: sophisticated software programs such as nTop Platform are really at the core of these benefits and allow AMs potential to be fully exploited.

Deloitte has recently released its Midyear Aerospace and Defense Industry Outlook that has analyzed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the commercial aerospace, defense sectors and Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity, the company reported on Thursday.

Commercial aerospace has experienced a drastic decrease in demand for passenger travel and changing customer behaviors with the recent distancing restrictions, which could result in a higher demand for narrow-body aircraft. The impact of COVID-19 has also affected the commercial aerospace manufacturing supply chain, particularly for mid-to-lower-tier suppliers.

Deloitte has reported that the defense sector has remained stable and military projects have held strategic priority as the federal government continues to strengthen the defense industrial base (DIB).

The company noted that while the defense sectors rate of growth may decrease in 2020, companies were largely insulated from large-scale disruption by steady defense budgets and beneficial policy decisions by the Department of Defense (DoD). While the sector has experienced temporary disruptions to defense supply chains, delays are expected to be minor.

In addition, M&A activity is expected to decrease as companies focus on liquidity as opposed to expansion. Deloittes report noted that companies are likely to become cautious within M&A. New policies that have restricted foreign investment in key components of the defense industrial base (DIB) could prevent international M&A deals in the near term.

To combat the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has posed, Deloitte stated that digital technologies were identified as the most important factor to combat fallout. These technologies will enhance productivity, efficiency and workplace safety.

Advanced technologies are expected to drive survival and recovery of companies and enable them to better position themselves by accelerating the adoption of advanced robotics and automation, which will make the manufacturing process more efficient as companies operate with reduced workforces.

Farnborough Show Goes Online With FIA Connect Webinars – Aviation International News

The FIA Connect event will run online from July 20 to 24 as Farnborough International organizers attempt to maintain at least a degree of the powerful connection the biennial airshow forges among thousands of companies across the aerospace, defense, and space industry. There will be no roar of flying display jets, but through an extensive program of webinars, participants will hear about how the industry is responding to the crisis that forced the cancellation of the 2020 air show back in March.

This will mark the first time outside influencesin this case Covid-19have forced a major international airshow to completely reinvent itself as an online event. We have sought to create something completely new and this is an opportunity for the industry to come out of its shell and talk about the future, Farnborough International CEO Gareth Rogers told a July 13 press conference.

The cancellation of this years show posed a significant challenge to the viability of Farnborough International, which is a subsidiary of the UK industry association ADS. The company has had to move quickly to protect the long-term future of the 72-year-old air show and it insists that the event will return to its usual format in 2022.

Last week, organizers offered exhibitors a credit covering up to 60 percent of fees already paid for the 2020 show. This is to be used for their participation in the 2022 event. Rogers acknowledged that companies may have been hoping for direct refunds, but he explained that would not have been financially viable. We had to achieve a balance between returning what [money] we can [to exhibitors] while ensuring the future of the air show. Its been a tough process, he commented.

As of July 13, before the full speaker lineup was announced, around 5,000 people had registered for FIA Connect, representing around 300 to 400 companies. Organizers said they expect between 20,000 and 30,000 people to participate in the online sessions during the course of the week.

In addition to the webinar program, FIA Connect willinclude an online version of its Meet the Buyer program to help companies engage with prospective clients across the supply chain. On July 24, it will hold the Farnborough Friday event, which gives young people the chance to learn more about career opportunities in the industry and the educational paths that support them.

The packed FIA Connect agenda consists of no fewer than 77 separate online sessions over the course of five days with 149 speakers and panelists. The environmental sustainability of aviation and the industrys response to Covid recovery challenges serve asrecurring themes through the program.

The webinars are free to attend but require pre-registration. Sessions are pre-recorded to allow flexibility in when viewers can tune in.

FIA Connects opening ceremony on July 20 will include top industry leaders. Confirmed speakers include Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, BAE Systems CEO Charles Woodburn, Safran Seats CEO Victoria Foy, Leonardo CEO Alessandro Profumo, and Meggitt CEO and ADS President Tony Wood.

Also on July 20, there will be a session on aviation sustainability addressing policy changes need to ensure environmental improvements in the context of the impact of Covid-19. Speakers will include UK transport secretary Grant Shapps, Etihad Aviation Group CEO Tony Douglas, Air BP commercial development manager Tom Parsons, Boeing sustainability, strategy, and corporate development vice president Chris Raymond, and Rolls-Royce chief technology officer Paul Stein.

The customized HMD development program with this Tier-1 Aerospace firm that is targeting their commercial and defense customer base has continued to expand and move towards volume production orders since it was first announced in 2018. Phase IV of this program was originally announced by Vuzix on April 20, 2020. To date, the Company has now received approximately $1,300,000 in non-recurring engineering services revenues on this program. 2020 sure does suck so far. But the year might not yet be a complete wash.

John McAfee still has to eat his dick on live television.

Three years ago on this date, on July 17, 2017, McAfee, the eccentric founder of the antivirus software company bearing his name, made the bet of a lifetime.

McAfee made a bet that in three years a single bitcoin (1 BTC) would be worth $500,000.

Now while most people would throw down money to make this bet, McAfee had a very different idea.

In a reply to Twitter user @DogMagUra, who was simply double-checking McAfees claim that 1 BTC would be worth $500,000 in three years, the unconventional software millionaire and former "person of interest" in a murder investigation responded:

If not, I will eat my dick on national television.

McAfee probably thought it was a winning bet at the time. The cryptocurrency news on July 17, 2017 wasnt great Bitcoin had just fallen below $2,000 after a big uptick but later that year it would hit its all-time high: $19,800.

Fast forward to July 17, 2020, three years from the day McAfee made his bet. Today, a bitcoin is worth around $9,150. Its certainly up from three years ago, sure. But were far away from $500,000. The world may be very different from the one we were living in three years ago, but a bet is a bet.

Many on Twitter reminded McAfee that it was time to make good on his bet.

McAfees response? He appears to be chickening out.

The former antivirus software mogul is now saying that we have the timeframe all wrong. Several months after his initial tweet, in November 2017, he tried to say that he meant the end of 2020.

But in July of 2017, McAfee agreed to a term of three years. Thats it. You start the clock on the day the bet is made. We dont celebrate our birthdays at the end of the year. We turn a year older on the day we were born. Thats how this works.

McAfee is certainly a bizarre dude. He most recently ran to be the Libertarian Partys presidential candidate in 2016 and 2020. The party didn't nominate him for either of his bids.

McAfee made headlines in 2012 when was wanted as a person of interest in the investigation of the murder of his neighbor in Belize. He was later tracked to Guatemala where he claimed he was seeking political asylum. McAfee was arrested for illegally entering the country and eventually deported back to the U.S. Officials in Belize did not proceed with charging McAfee with a crime. Hes also been accused of rape.

So, yeah, McAfee is certainly not a good guy. I can think of no greater punishment than McAfee eating his own dick, on live television no less. Its time for McAfee to pay the piper.
