How Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Became the Busiest in the World – Cond Nast Traveler

While the air travel industry is facing numerous declines during the pandemic, one unexpected upturn has surfaced: a new busiest airport in the world. For the first time in recent memory, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is now operating more flights than any other on the planet.

In fact, for three months in a row the Texas hub has had the most takeoffs and landings around the globe. Starting in May, the airport climbed to the top ranking, with 22,831 airline takeoffs and landings, according to data from the Federal Aviation Administration. That was enough to edge out some typically busier hubs in the U.S.including Atlanta, Denver, Charlotte, and Chicago O'Harefor the number one spot. DFW topped those same airports in June with 25,294 takeoffs and landings, according to the FAA's data.

"Ive connected through DFW a few times during the COVID outbreak," says Ryan Ewing, founder and president of Airline Geeks. "Early on, I found DFW to be noticeably busier than some other hub airports. Plenty of concessions were open. At one point in April, I had to wait for a few of the Skylink trains to go by before I could go on because they were so packed," he says. While social distancing might be difficult on a crowded airport tram, Ewing notes that the majority of travelers and staff at DFW have been adhering to the policies, such as wearing a mask. The airport made facial coverings mandatory on July 2, and staff have been taking additional precautions such as increased sanitizing by a so-called "Cleaning Strike Team," which is a group of 165 staff members that disinfect touchpoints in all five of the airport's terminals, in addition to its usual custodial contract workers.

Dallas-Fort Worth's new top ranking revolves around airlines' recovery plans in the face of COVID-19, specifically new flight strategies from American Airlines, whose headquarters is at the hub. "American has nixed several of its nonstop flights and forced connections through DFW, which will of course make it busier," Ewing says. American is also routing more international flights through its home-base hub. The airline said earlier in July that it would be making Dallas-Fort Worth its "major trans-Pacific hub, as well as for certain flights to Western Europe.

It's part of American's larger strategy to lean into its major hubs as travel demand continues to falter. COVID-19 has forced us to reevaluate our network, Vasu Raja, the airline's chief revenue officer, said in a statement recently. American will have a significantly smaller international network in the year ahead, but we are using this opportunity to hit reset and create a network using the strength of our strategic hubs that we can build and grow upon and be profitable on in this new environment. In addition to focusing trans-Pacific flights at DFW, the carrier is making Philadelphia its primary gateway to Europe and continuing to use Miami for most connections to Latin American and the Caribbean.

The new flight strategy means that Dallas-Fort Worth will likely be the busiest airport once again in July. The airport's CEO Sean Donohue said earlier this month that he expected nearly 100 percent of the DFW's gates to be operational during peak hours. Although the statistics aren't yet finalized, early numbers show the hub on top once again. DFW had 18,098 arriving passenger flights from July 1 through July 28, according to data firm Cirium. So far, that's enough for the Texas hub to beat narrowly beat Atlantas Hartfield-Jackson Airportwhich usually processes the most passengers in the world each yearfor the number one spot in July. Over the same period, 16,980 passenger flights arrived into Atlanta airport, according to Cirium, with Chicago OHare trailing in third place with 15,755 flights, followed by Denver airport in fourth place (14,040 arriving passenger flights), and Chinas Guangzhou airport clocking in at fifth place.

2020 Greater Washington Good Business Awards | The Business Voice – Inside NoVA

With all thats changed, two things remain the same: the people committed to doing good in and for our community, and your Chambers commitment to recognizing and celebrating them. The efforts of these individuals, businesses, and nonprofits mean a lot to all of us, so we asked a few of the 2019 recipients what winning a Greater Washington Good Business Award meant to them.

To be recognized as a Good Corporate Citizen reinforces our values and lets us know that others see our culture and our commitment, said Vernon Green, Founder and CEO, GCubed Enterprises Inc., winner 2019 Small Business of the Year. Those who know me will tell you I am in business to support my philanthropic ways. In 2019, GCubed donated 78.6% of its net profit to nonprofit and community efforts. Building strong communities by providing opportunities and facilitating economic growth for those that do not always have opportunities are examples of executing on our mission and vision statements. To me, this is what it means to be a Good Corporate Citizen.

Gloria Bohan, President and CEO, Omega World Travel

The Good Business Award and recognition for leadership skills by the Chamber was a surprise, said Gloria Bohan, President and CEO, Omega World Travel, winner 2019 Executive Leader of the Year. I was really overwhelmed. To this day, I am humbled by the recognition and inspired to live up to the honor.

We were honored. The award was a testament to the work of our fantastic staff and board, and to the community members who help forward our mission, said Lisa Whetzel, Executive Director, Britepaths, winner 2019 Non-Profit of the Year. We were and still are grateful to the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce for recognizing the important role nonprofits play in the vitality of our community and for supporting our work.

In addition to celebrating the 2020 Greater Washington Good Business Award winners, this years event honored the leadership of 2019-2020 Chairman Todd Rowley of Old Dominion National Bank and welcomed 2020-2021 Chairman Kathryn Falk of Cox Communications.

Into The Future – Outlook India

We hoped it would be a year of travel and exploration like never before. But the global pandemic has left us disconcerted and compelled us to bid farewell to all our grand plans for the year. As the novel coronavirus continues to ravage the travel and tourism industry, major economies around the globe including the likes of Asia and Europeare taking a beating, with a bulk of their finances drying up.

We believe that in the post-outbreak world, travel will revive and thrive. With travel restrictions eased, inter-state movement relaxed and several restaurants and bars reopened (on a takeaway basis), there is a beacon of hope that the world might return to normalcy. With travellers increasing aversion to mass tourism, we expect the post-crisis travel patterns to look somewhat like this.

Travel BubblesWhat are the odds that your summer travel plans might actually work out? For those in the Baltic states, this isnt far from reality. Many countries have mooted the possibility of establishing travel bubbles or a corona corridor, as a route to economic recovery. Essentially, a travel bubble involves connecting two countries that have exhibited a great level of success, independently, in containing the spread of coronavirus.

Countries like Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have collaborated to soon let travellers move freely within the three countries. Australia andNew Zealand also have similar plans underway. The two countries have agreed upon a trans-Tasman travel bubble that will allow a quarantine-free flow of people. Given that both nations are at similar points on the COVID-19 curve, it would provide an impetus to their economies, while keeping the risk of international transmission of the disease low. This exclusive travel zone is said to be mutually beneficial and will kickstart the tourism sector.

Health PassportsThe possibility of a vacation away from the COVID commotion is far from certainty, but a digital health passport may be the cue to resuming safe international travel. A concept akin to todays grim realities, and one that has ignited a ray of hope among travellers, health passports that determine and verify the health status of an individual might become the norm in the time to come. Travellers can have their coronavirus status catalogued either through self-declaration or via an authorised verifier. For vacationers in Europe, this digital innovation is a lot closer to reality. They could soon count on a COVID-19 passport to travel within the Schengen states. The adoption of a health passport will not only provide significant relief to the tourism industry, but also substantially boost the COVID-19 testing capabilities of many countries.

Travel WindowsFor those of us bitten by the travel bug and longing to put our explorers hat on, intermittent travelling could be the next big thing. With several countries forced to extend their lockdown indefinitely, airports and airlines complying to strict social distancing norms and ensuring thermal screening at every checkpoint, the world might not return to what we deemed as normal. Pardon our cynicism, but travel might not be at will anymore. Seasonality and travel windows are set to be the new buzzwords. As the lockdown measures are eased, countries may permit windows of opportunity to travel that might last only weeks or even days, before restrictions are resumed and borders blocked. With airlines desperate to stay afloat, intermittent travel could also translate to a limited number of seats and a drastic surge in fares.

DigitisationTo be fair, weve been looking forward to this digital revolution in the aviation and hospitality sectors for decades now. Maybe being armed with just a passport wont suffice anymore. A paradigm shift to touchless travel is much needed. New health screening, tracking systems and even wristbands with barcodesstraight out of the movie Contagioncould be a real prospect. A number of symptom-tracking and contact-tracing apps have already been rolled out. Weve pinned our hopes to complete automation in the entire sector. An integrated digital identity will be the key to seamless journeys in the post-lockdown era. Travellers could manage their own profile, collect digital attestations (health credentials, immunisations, health status) and decide which information to share.

A Canadian man who set out on a solo sail 267 days ago returned to land earlier this month to a much different world than he left.

Bert terHart, a public speaker and IT entrepreneur, set sail from Victoria, British Columbia, in October, making a months-long trip around the world via the five Capes South Cape in New Zealand, South East and Cape Leeuwin in Australia, Cape Agulhas in South Africa, and Cape Horn in Chile with no aid from electronic navigational devices.

He arrived home on July 18, in a world hit by the novel coronavirus pandemic. He had seen COVID-19 restrictions first-hand during a stop in Rarotonga, the largest of the Cook Islands, in May, but didn't fully know what to expect in Canada, Yahoo Life reported.

"When I got back, the first thing I said was, 'What did I miss?'" he told Yahoo. "I had some idea of what was going on with respect to COVID, but you can't fully understand or fully grasp it until you actually are immersed in it."

He told Yahoo that arriving back into a pandemic was a "harsh and brutal introduction," especially because of Canada's restrictions around the virus.

"I miss the closeness that used to be [there]," he said. "You could walk down the street and you could pass someone nearby and say, 'excuse me,' and smile at them. And they would smile, and not everyone is automatically moving away from you, which is very odd. Because as human beings, we don't necessarily want all other human beings to constantly be, you know, migrating away from you. You suddenly feel like a leper."

What a week! Just a quick update as to how Bert has been adjusting to life on land. After the triumphant return on Saturday July 18, Berts week has been filled with family, 3 meet and greets and then all the press...so much press! Zoom interviews, phone calls, and Facebook Live, oh my!! The response, support and interest has been so incredible and it has meant the world to the success of this voyage. Thank you EVERYONE!! An amazing experience for both Bert and ShoreTeam Leah. Everything is looking nice and quiet for the upcoming week and Bert will be sailing home to Gabriola and Nani, finally. What a whirlwind! You can find all the press articles, videos, radio interviews and magazine features on Berts website press page: http://www.the5capes.com Bert has enjoyed pizza, cookies, donuts and some great movies. Canada has had 115,470 people test positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak began, and 8,917 people have died from the virus.

The country currently has travel restrictions put in place, and has encouraged its residents to wear face masks and social distance to help prevent the spread of the virus.

What happened when I took a ‘Boris bike’ from London to Delhi – iNews

From Boris Bikes to Sadiq Cycles Londons flagship cycle rental scheme turns 10 on Thursday. In the past decade the bikes have made cycling more accessible and changed the way city-dwellers travel around the capital especially in the past few months, as many avoid public transport in the pandemic.

In January 2017 my friend Alex and I decided to take a London Boris Bike around the world to seven cities outside of London. Our aim was to make a video that would get media attention for an English Channel swim I was attempting that summer to raise money for Dreams Come True childrens charity. It certainly got a lot of attention once it went live, and once the swim was completed, 23,500 was raised for the charity.

The rules of renting a bike, now dubbed Santander Cycles after its sponsor, are as follows. It costs 2 for unlimited journeys up to 30 minutes within a 24 hour period. Extra 30 minutes are charged at 2. So, how did we take it around the world?

Boris Bikes are really bulky, heavy and certainly not designed to be smuggled across the world in oversized luggage. Firstly we had to plan our destinations to find the most cost effective flights, while visiting some iconic landmarks. We then had to check with each airline their maximum weight and dimensions for oversized luggage. Once we figured that all out, the Boris Bike still would be too bulky to fit in a box and go in oversized luggage on a plane. Some dismantling was in order

We examined the bikes and could see that the nuts and fixtures could not be removed with traditional tools. I asked my older brother, who has an engineering degree and milled his own parts for a car he was rebuilding. He couldnt find any of the tools needed to take it apart online so he milled me some custom tools. This way we were able to take off the handlebars and the front wheel in order to fit it in the large bike box.

I was a bit worried about racking up a really large bill when we docked it back in the UK after its around the world trip, but we could see that the maximum fine wed encounter is 300. For the video, and in the hope to raise a lot more, I decided to take the hit.

We undocked the bike in Westminster, then took it to Heathrow to board a flight to New York. This was one of the most nerve-wracking parts of the trip as we thought Heathrow is the only place out of all the airports that anyone would question the bike.

After landing in New York we got questioned at immigration about the bike and my heart was racing. They were asking things like what are we doing with the bike?, what kind of bike is it?, but eventually they let us through border control.

We travelled around the US filming ourselves riding it at some of the top landmarks in New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco and then went on to Paris, Rome, Dubai and Delhi.

We were pretty disappointed when we arrived in San Francisco, as there was a huge storm. We had to sit in the motel for two days. Thankfully on the third day just before our flight the storm passed and we were able to rush over to the Golden Gate Bridge.

We had a few issues entering Dubai as Alex put the detached metal Boris Bike basket in his luggage. It had some electrical wires hanging off it and probably looked a bit suspicious. After being pulled into customs and having explained that it was part of his bike they let him in to the country.

Our final international destination was India. This was definitely one of the highlights. We had some problems trying to get footage of the Taj Mahal though. The security was so high they wouldnt let us bring the bike inside. We had to find another area to get some footage but it was all government owned land. In the end we bribed some officials the equivalent of 5 to let us in for five minutes to get the shots we needed. I also found it funny how all the locals took to the bike as if it was some sort of Ferrari. They all wanted to buy it.

Overall the trip was such an adventure. It took us 2.5 weeks and would do it again in a heartbeat! When we returned, we docked the bike and it locked as usual. Santander even donated to the charity.

I still love using the Boris Bikes to get around London. Theyre definitely comfortable but not built for worldwide travel. I think the scheme has been a brilliant addition to Londoners and tourists alike and thoroughly encourage everyone to use them. I do wonder though if TfL will introduce a similar scheme for electric scooters, like other European countries? Sadiqs Scooters?

A second wave of COVD -19 is causing new disruption toin the travel world – Happytrips

A second COVID-19 wave is causing a ton of problems in the travel industry right now. Asian countries have imposed new restrictions, while Britain made it mandatory for Spanish travellers to go into a 14-day quarantine. The United States, on the other hand, is still trying hard to contain its first wave of infections.

What looked like a promising new beginning, is proving to be quite an ordeal now, as a second wave of COVID-19 is ongoing. Numerous countries had to change their travel policies suddenly, amidst reopening. Australia has now recorded the highest case of single day infections, thus pushing the country into rethinking their unlocking plans. The migration intake of Australia is predicted to drop during 2020-21 due to the global pandemic.

Vietnam, on the other hand, looked promising with a 100-day spree of no local virus patient. But this progress got stunted now. The country was already packing tourists, with beaches and nightclubs coming back to life. But now, suddenly, the masks have returned and people have gone back inside their homes. The central coast region reported 15 new cases in three days. Unfortunately, a new battle awaits them.

Germany too confirmed a rise in Coronavirus cases with 633 new cases, with four new cases of death. Hong Kong has now banned gatherings of more than two people, and has banned dining in restaurants. Also, face masks are now compulsory in public places.

Malvern travel firm says government’s Spain quarantine is "a kick in the teeth" – Malvern Gazette

A MALVERN travel agency has blasted the governments decision to make British tourists who are coming back from Spain go into quarantine.

Lee and Hilary Harrison, who run Malvern World Travel, called the decision to reverse Spains quarantine-free list as a massive kick in the teeth for the travel industry. Mr and Mrs Harrison said: We realise its absolutely paramount to put safety first. But quickfire reactions like this, that seem to change every three hours will devastate a whole industry. At least 1.4 billion was wiped off the value of listed travel companies and airlines such as British Airways owner IAG, Tui, Jet2 owner Dart Group and Ryanair amid concerns that travel curbs could be extended to other countries as Downing Street warned that no travel is risk free. The Government havent looked at the geography, the distances involved, and been sensible and said: right, avoid these places, they have just said Spain in general.

"The government is right to respond when infection rates spike in particular regions, as they have in Catalonia. But applying these changes to the whole of Spain is unnecessary and will cause huge disruption for passengers.

Last weekend, the government announced that Spain had been removed from the list of countries that Brits can fly back from without needing to quarantine. The advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office changed and now advises British nationals against all but essential international travel. Originally travel to The Canary Islands and Balearics were exempt from this, although still subject to quarantine on return. However, within hours this information was also changed to against all but essential travel. Now anyone returning from Spain and the islands will need to quarantine for 14 days, although there are hopes that may be reduced to 10 days. It has also been pointed out that some of the areas in Spain and its islands have much lower risk levels than the UK.

Mr and Mrs Harrison added: We are asking the government to sharpen the blunt tool approach and look at the tried and tested way the FCO looks at safety and security at regional and city level rather than blacklisting entire countries. This would allow us to rebuild much needed connectivity, give people confidence to travel, kick start business and would provide a much needed boost to the economy.

Nationwide company Tui said they were disappointed with the timing of the announcement. Managing director Andrew Flintham said: Were incredibly disappointed that we didnt get more notice of this announcement, or that this decision wasnt made yesterday, as many Brits travel on holiday at the weekend.

Rory Boland, editor of consumer rights magazine Which? Travel, said: Many holidaymakers will be deeply angry that the Government didnt make this decision 48 hours ago, before tens of thousands of them flew off for their summer holidays in Spain. Many would not have travelled if they had known theyd face 14 days of quarantine on their return.

Beaumont hospitals, Ascension Providence rank among top in Detroit area – The Oakland Press

Beaumont Healths Royal Oak and Troy hospitals ranked second and third in the Detroit area in U.S. News & World Reports annual rankings, released Tuesday, July 28.

Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, was ranked second.

Beaumonts Troy hospital tied with its Grosse Pointe hospital for third place.

Another Oakland County hospital, Ascension Providence in Southfield, ranked fifth.

Here are the top hospitals in the Detroit area, according to the magazine:

The magazine also ranked the top hospital in each state and in several medical specialties.

Beaumont's Royal Oak location kept its second-place ranking in the statewide list,. Beaumont's Troy and Grosse Pointe locations remained tied for third place in the statewide scoring.

HOW HOSPITALS WERE RANKED

The magazine looked at survival rates, patient experiences and other measures of performance, factoring in socioeconomic differences to avoid penalizing hospitals that care for poorer or sicker people.

The magazine cautioned that the rankings should be just a starting point for people preparing for a medical procedure.

Hospitals are evaluated across a wide range of conditions and procedures. Within that range, hospitals can and do perform differently. In pulmonology & lung surgery, for example, a hospital might rank below another one but do better at treating patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the magazines website says.

Patients still have to do their own research and talk with their doctors. We also understand that families have to consider such factors as the stress and expense of travel and lodging in another city and their insurer's willingness to pay for care if a hospital is out of network.

To learn more about the rankings, go to https://health.usnews.com/health-care/best-hospitals/articles/faq-how-and-why-we-rank-and-rate-hospitals..

MEQUON A key parcel in the city of Mequons carefully planned East Growth Neighborhood could be home to a medical office building, rather than the subdivision that some neighbors had hoped.

The Mequon Planning Commission Monday recommended approving a rezoning request for an Ascension Medical Clinic on the northwest corner of Port Washington and Highland roads, though there are many more hurdles for the health care organization to jump.

A number of factors with the proposal caused concern for some commission members, including Mayor John Wirth.

The 30,000-square-foot building is 50 percent larger than the newly created neighborhood commercial zoning calls for. There was also concern about whether it would fit in with the adjacent residential zoning.

The corner is considered a gateway into the East Growth Neighborhood plan, a road map to development in the area generally bound by Interstate 43 to the east, Oriole Lane and Ulao Creek to the west, Highland Road to the south and Pioneer Road to the north.

The Mequon Common Council was updated on the project at its July 14 meeting, hearing about everything from proposed land uses, to utility availability, to architectural standards.

While the proposed clinic property is currently zoned residential, the East Growth plan calls for it to be rezoned to the new neighborhood commercial. It also calls for the property to the west and north to be single-family homes.

The owner of the property, Highland Investments LLC, in partnership with other entities, asked for the rezoning to neighborhood commercial. The rezoning request is for a 4.2-acre portion of the 40-acre parcel. The rest of the site would remain residential, according to a staff memo.

The rezoning request would limit it to medical use only.

A planning commission subcommittee had determined that the new zoning would be most appropriate for the site. And the community development office staff also supported the rezoning based on the conditions listed in the memo.

Blake Estes, executive director of strategy and planning at Ascension, told the commission that Ascension Wisconsin is seeking to relocate its primary care office from across the street. The facility would offer expanded services, including primary care, speciality care, diagnostic radiology and physical therapy.

We are very, very excited about this site and the potential it has to expand health care offerings, he said, adding that Ascension Wisconsin seeks to be the best possible neighbor.

Nick Patera, a landscape architect and senior vice president at Teska, talked about the teams commitment to respecting the corridor, saying they would look at the site as a foreground and a cornerstone that would emphasize the architecture and the landscape first and foremost.

What youre not seeing is a parking field in front of a building, but its the other way around, Patera said.

The proposed 130 parking spaces would go behind the building.

Commissioners were not necessarily unhappy with the plan, but more with the size and its compatibility with the future residential neighborhoods that will surround it. Wirth said that the layout is great from the perspective of Port Washington Road.

But what does that do to the residential that adjoins it? he asked.

93% of Bitcoin’s Supply Profitable at $11K, ‘Realized Price’ Recovers from Black Thursday – Bitcoin News

Onchain data shows that bitcoins breakout above $11,000 puts 93% of the circulating supply in a state of profit. Additionally, seven-day metrics show that bitcoins realized price has recovered from the low that took place on March 12.

The research and analysis firm Glassnode revealed that when the price of bitcoin (BTC) is over the $11,000 range, 93% of bitcoin in circulation becomes profitable. At the time of publication, BTC has been struggling to hold that momentum as the price has shifted below the $11k range a couple of times on Tuesday.

The spike on Tuesday led to a decent jump in onchain profits Glassnode detailed on Twitter.

BTCs break above $11,000 has led to a sharp increase in the onchain supply in profit. Currently, almost 93% of the circulating bitcoin supply is in a state of profit the highest level in over a year, the analytics firm tweeted.

Moreover, BTC has recovered from the March 12 (Black Thursday) market rout. Data shows that the crypto assets realized price has turned Black Thursdays trend upside down. Glassnodes charts set for seven-day statistics also indicate that realized price has doubled.

To add to those stats, bitcoin (BTC) charts show that long term holding has touched a new high. 62% of Bitcoin supply (11,400,000 BTC) has not moved in at least a year, the bitcoiner Kevin Rooke told his 11,000 Twitter followers on Monday.

Furthermore, BTC profitible days stats from the web portal Lookintobitcoin shows that the crypto asset has been profitable over 97% of its lifespan.

The current optimism in the world of cryptocurrencies has been quite different this time around as the world is dealing with the reaction to Covid-19 and the faltering economy.

During the last few days, the USD and U.S. bonds have weakened considerably and many economists think the central bank will suppress benchmark interest rates this week. Vijay Ayyar, head of business development at Luno believes that central banks will keep bolstering crypto assets like BTC.

My view is that with the major governments declaring unprecedented stimulus packages we will see continued bullish momentum across markets. So that includes equities and gold as well. And BTC and crypto will follow in this regard. Added to the fact that a vaccine seems within reach as well now, no reason to be bearish near term, Ayyar said.

With a lifespan of 97% profitability and 93% when the price is over $11,000 is a good sign crypto proponents. However, bitcoin mining operations need another $1,500 more for miners to start prospering, as they did before the May 11 halving.

A report from the blockchain analytics provider Tradeblock shows that $12,525 per BTC would bring miners over the edge and $15,062 per coin would improve profits a great deal.

Is it a Good Time to Buy Bitcoin? – FX Empire

The swing trade took one month to play out and we had to sit through a lot of noise, but the price structure never turned bearish, even though it appeared questionable at times.

The question everyone is asking: now a good time to buy? And in terms of our long-only swing trade strategy, the answer is NO. Why not? It looks strong now? The risk of retrace after such a move is very high. This is NOT a location that offers attractive reward/risk, even though price appears to be pushing higher.

Now that we are out of our position, we WAIT for the next long setup and this begins with first anticipating an inflection point. At the moment, that point is the 10,400 area. This is the previous range resistance, which is now likely to act as a new support. IF price can retrace to this area, and produce a setup, we will be prompted to share a new swing trade idea. It may find support sooner, but only price action can provide the evidence and there is nothing at the moment except for vertical candles.

This is the herd mentality in action. No one was excited about Bitcoin at 9200, or 9K but now it looks strong again. Markets are irrational and driven by the forces of greed and fear which often lead to the wrong timing. The effective thing to do in such a situation is lock in profits while the buyers are plentiful, even if it is just a portion of the position. Effective behavior and following a set of rules are what produce results, NOT chasing a market after it has made a significant move. Want to learn more? ESPN Announces Online Gaming That Allows Bitcoin Deposits and Withdrawals – Bitcoin News

ESPN Global has announced the launch of a blockchain-powered gaming platform, which will allow competitors to deposit and withdraw using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies through Cryptopay.

The platform is also integrating an online treasure hunt, Satoshis Treasure, with $1 million worth of bitcoin to be split among 1000 winners.

In a June 23 statement, the UK-based company, which is not affiliated with ESPN in the US, said it is in the pre-launch phase of a platform that will offer some of the most popular games in one mobile application for crypto prizes. Blockchain technology will decentralize verification and support for transactions inside the platform.

Cryptocurrency payment specialist Cryptopay is being used by ESPN Global, to make the process a lot simpler, swift and secure, the company announced. Users can choose a game or join a group of participants to compete in real-time and be awarded on the basis of highest score.

The platform also offers premium membership whereby one gets priority access to slots and early access to the most popular games. The mobile e-sports unit in UK falls under ESPN Global Corporation Ltd. which is headquartered in Poland.

An ESPN Global director, Mr. Chris Parker, spoke on the attraction of blockchain. As per a research done by 3EA Limited, a global strategic management consulting group, e-sports and online gaming is a $140 billion global industry driven predominantly by digital micro-transaction economies, which we believe will benefit immensely from the integrity and resilience of the Blockchain technology, he said.

The company is also integrating the recently launched game Satoshis Treasure. With this $1 million puzzle game Satoshis Treasure, we are promising a bounty-laden bitcoin wallet whose keys will be divided into 1,000 fragments, spawning a global hunt for the prize pieces, said Parker.

In the event of amassing a sizeable e-sport community, ESPN Global expects to launch an initial exchange offering of its Smart Gaming Token (SGT) based on the ERC-20 platform.

From the day we start our operations, we will be giving airdrops of SGTs to all registered players as a gift, Parker said. He added that all players who lose money in any game or tournament will be compensated with SGT airdrops equivalent to the losses credited to their ERC wallets.

The current valuation of SGT airdrop is $0.001, expected to increase with the growth of the gaming community. Premium members, who get double SGTs against the amount of super-contest, will also have their losses covered.

2020 is Possibly the Last Year Bitcoin (BTC) Will Be Below $10k – Ethereum World News

In brief:

On the last day of July, Bitcoin has shrugged off yesterdays alarming news of the US economy contracting by 32.9% in the second quarter of 2020. The lack of growth of the US economy has been linked to job losses and low consumer spending brought about by the economic effects of COVID19.

When news broke of a contracting US economy, the automatic response was one of caution as such information had the ability to drop the value of Bitcoin in an instant. Also yesterday, the big tech companies of Amazon, Apple and facebook released their quarterly earnings reports that propped back the stock markets. The positive news from the big tech companies also had a direct effect on Bitcoin which has since firmly regained the $11k price level. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is valued at $11,160 Binance rate.

Also to note, is that Bitcoin price is following a price prediction postulated by the team at Bloomberg in early July. According to the research team at Bloomberg, the number of active Bitcoin addresses point at BTC hitting $12k. They explained:

The number of active Bitcoin addresses used, a key signal of the 2018 price decline and 2019 recovery, suggests a value closer to $12,000, based on historical patterns.

In addition to all the positive news surrounding the crypto markets, 2020 might become the last year Bitcoin is ever valued at under $10k as shall be explained.

According to Bitcoin analysis done by Timothy Peterson of Cane Island Alternative Advisors, BTCs value can be modeled using Metcalfes law.As earlier explained, Metcalfes Law is primarily used in the Telecoms industry and Mr. Peterson has expanded on it in his analysis of Bitcoin.

Furthermore, Mr. Peterson has a very elaborate and simple chart that gives mid-November 2020, as possibly the last time Bitcoin will be valued at under $10k. Below is one of his Tweets proposing such a possibility for Bitcoin.

With the Fed and European Central Bank continually printing fiat, more investors are flocking to safe-haven assets such as Gold, Silver and Bitcoin. This fact coupled with the recent bullish news of Visa, Mastercard and Paypal finally embracing crypto, it can be concluded that Bitcoins general trajectory is up henceforth.

As with all analyses of Bitcoin, traders and investors are advised to do their own research and use adequate stop losses when trading Bitcoin.

Bitcoins Realized Price Action Shows Full Recovery From Black Thursday Crash – Cointelegraph

Another key metric points to the recovery of the Bitcoin (BTC) market the current price has recently doubled the assets realized price.

Bitcoin price versus realized price. Source: Glassnode.

The realized price of Bitcoin is calculated by dividing the realized market capitalization by the supply. The realized market capitalization is computed by multiplying each Unspent Transaction Output or UTXO by the prevailing price when it was last moved. This metric should convey the cost of acquisition of the asset. Traditionally, the realized cap and price have ranged below the actuals; however, around Black Thursday (March 19), it flipped.

Bitcoin net unrealized profit. Source: Glassnode.

In the months that followed, the relationship has returned to the normal range. As of July 27, the actual price was almost double that of the realized price. Although a return to normality is always welcomed, the downside is that the most of the supply is currently in profit. Holders may therefore be tempted to realize some of the paper gains they have accumulated.

According to Glassnode's classification, the current phase could either be classified as Optimism heading towards Belief, or Anxiety willing to yield to Fear. A recent report by Bloomberg suggested that the former is more likely as it is expecting BItcoin to rise above $12,000.

Coinbase Processed $500,000 in Bitcoin Payments That Helped Ex-Nissan Chairman Flee Japan | News – Bitcoin News

Coinbase processed $500,000 in bitcoin payments that aided the dramatic escape of former Nissan Motor Co. chairman Carlos Ghosn from Japan, according to Bloomberg.

In December, two Americans used a box to smuggle Ghosn out of the Asian country, where he was facing criminal charges for embezzlement and financial manipulation.

The former executive, who denies any wrongdoing, now lives in Lebanon, which does not have extradition relations with Japan.

According to a court filing, the money was allegedly sent via the U.S. crypto exchange over a four-month period by Ghosns son, Anthony, to an accomplice named Peter Taylor.

In total, Taylor pocketed $1.36 million. He had earlier received $862,500 in a separate transfer, wired by Carlos himself, the July 22 filing states.

Taylor worked with his father, Michael, a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran, to help Ghosn escape in what is thought to be a musical instrument box, and into private jet, to avoid facing financial charges.

The Taylors are now seeking to be released on bail following their arrest in May, at Japans request. U.S. prosecutors opposed bail, saying the duo was a security flight risk, especially now that they have access to Ghosns vast resources with which to flee.

Ghosn has promised to assist the people that helped him during his trying times in Japan, according to a recent TV interview, Reuters reported.

Coinbase, which is eyeing a U.S. stock market listing this year, courted controversy recently with its cosing up to law enforcement something that bitcoin fundamentalists may consider a betrayal of the top cryptos foundational principles.

The exchange has revealed that it is selling a blockchain tool that provides law enforcement agencies the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with superior analytical capabilities.

Bryan Cranston says he had Covid-19 and shares a video of himself donating plasma – CNN

The actor, famed for playing chemistry teacher turned crystal meth drug lord Walter White, took to Instagram to share the news that he had been "one of the lucky ones" to survive the virus.

"Hi. About now you're probably feeling a little tied down, restricting your mobility and like me, you're tired of this!!" he wrote. "Well, I just want to encourage you to have a little more patience. I was pretty strict in adhering to the protocols and still... I contracted the virus. Yep. it sounds daunting now that over 150,000 Americans are dead because of it. I was one of the lucky ones.

"Mild symptoms. I count my blessings and urge you to keep wearing the damn mask, keep washing your hands, and stay socially distant. We can prevail - but ONLY if we follow the rules together. Be well - Stay well. BC"

The center's website states: "You may have antibodies in your plasma that attack the virus. Your donated plasma could be used for compassionate treatment or as part of a scientific trial to determine definitively if this treatment works. It can also be used to support research efforts such as making tests to check immunity to the virus."

Donors must have either tested positive for the condition or for the presence of antibodies, and need to be fully recovered -- the website states that the center only accepts donations "after you have been completely well with no symptoms for at least 14 days."

On a ticker tape across the video, Cranston said: "I was sick with covid quite early on. My symptoms were a slight headache, tightness of the chest and I lost all taste and smell!"

The footage, which has been viewed nearly 270,000 times, shows Cranston before he enters the facility, as he is prepped beforehand, and during the process.

Introducing the health worker taking the donation as Ron, he laughs and says: "I noticed Ron was a little nervous coming in this morning, a little shaky -- how's your aim, Ron?"

Ron explains the process, saying blood is taken and then separated by a centrifuge. The plasma is extracted and harvested, then the platelets and red blood cells are returned to the donor.

In a text posted across the video, Cranston writes: "The whole process took about an hour, thank god for old movies."

Viewers can then see that the actor had been watching "A Face in the Crowd," a 1957 drama starring Andy Griffith.

When shown the bags of collected plasma, Cranston says: "Beautiful... liquid gold."

Finally, he signs off on the ticker tape: "Today they collected 840ml!I'll be sure to come back and give more."

He then asks: "Have you had Covid-19? This is something that you might be able to do to," before adding a link to his post.

State reports death of Anchorage resident with COVID-19 and nearly 2500 active cases – Anchorage Daily News

A resident of Anchorage is the 23rd Alaskan with COVID-19 to die since the pandemic began, the state reported Tuesday as virus cases continue to surge around the state.

The person who died was a man in his 60s with a history of underlying medical issues, according to Elizabeth Manning, a communications manager with the state health department.

Alaska on Tuesday reported 84 new cases among Alaskans and 36 cases among nonresidents, leading to an overall total of 2,489 active cases statewide as of Thursday.

Current hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 increased by three from the previous day to 37, new numbers on the states COVID-19 dashboard showed, and another eight hospital patients are under investigation for COVID-19. Three people with either confirmed or cases under investigation were on ventilators statewide.

In a call with reporters on Thursday, state health officials urged people who show symptoms and are waiting for a test result to isolate at home. And those who test positive for the illness should isolate until theyre better and have been cleared by public health workers.

If a person spends 15 minutes or more with someone else who ends up testing positive including the two days before someone shows symptoms or tests positive they must quarantine for two weeks, and a testing strategy cant shorten that, Dr. Anne Zink, the states chief medical officer, said during the call.

We really need people to minimize the risk of transmission during that time, Zink said.

New cases reported by the state Thursday include 42 residents of Anchorage, which also tallied one new nonresident case, and one Eagle River resident. In the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Wasilla saw seven resident cases and one nonresident case, and four Palmer residents and two Big Lake residents also tested positive.

Six Fairbanks residents and two nonresidents tested positive, as did a resident of a smaller community within the Fairbanks North Star Borough.

In the Kenai Peninsula Borough, Seward saw 23 nonresident cases while Soldotna had four new cases among residents plus one involving a nonresident, and one Kenai resident tested positive.

In the Northwest Arctic Borough, two people from Kotzebue and seven people from smaller communities tested positive, state data showed.

In Juneau, two residents and four nonresidents tested positive. The state also reported one case each among residents of Kodiak, Craig, Utqiagvik, Unalaska and smaller communities in the Bethel Census Area and the combined Yakutat and Hoonah-Angoon region.

There were also four cases among nonresidents in unknown areas, state data showed.
