Why You Need To Start Investing In Your Health – Thrive Global

Healthcare expenses can be difficult to manage at any age. More recently, millennials have been ditching the doctor and diagnosing any symptoms or illnesses they may have themselves. A shocking statistic that has emerged in a new study suggests that over45% of millennialsneglect their health issues mainly due to the costs of deductibles and copays. In a survey done by an insurance company over 80 percent of millennials found themselves to be in good health however less than 70 percent had a primary care physician compared to over 90 percent of generation X. Health care costs can actually become considerably higher if preventative maintenance or treatment of acute onset symptoms are not done as some conditions can progress to more serious ones. Heres why you need to start investing in your health.

Millennials as a whole are a physically healthier group of people when compared to generation X due to their age bracket, as such the group would have less chronic conditions which are developed over time. At the same time, Millennials tend to be more stressed, are less likely to eat healthy or have good sleeping habits. As such neglecting ones health will lead to a higher percentage of millennials to have chronic conditions.

Extend your life expectancy:

Most people would like to extend their life expectancy for various different reasons. One key component to achieving a longer life expectancy is to monitor your health and allow a healthcare professional to diagnose any symptoms that you may be having. Periodic visits every 6 months-1 year to check your physical health, performing blood work deemed necessary by your provider, and maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle can help avoid future costs of medications, surgeries, invasive procedures, and so on.

Prevent diseases and other illnesses:

Having routine checkups and examinations are crucial to maintaining good health. Medical advancements have allowed healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat conditions earlier to prevent progression.

RNC holds healthy lifestyle, weight loss search in govt offices – Philippine Information Agency

BAGUIO CITY, Feb. 14 (PIA) -- The Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) engages government workers in a healthy lifestyle and weight reduction in a search with cash incentives at stake.

The RNC came up with a regional weight management project through healthy weight loss ways such as diet modification, increase on physical activity and education/behavior modification pilot tested last year.

National Nutrition Council Regional Coordinator Rita Papey said the project was borne out of the alarming results of a study on the nutritional assessment of government employees conducted in 2017 which showed that more than 50 percent are either overweight or obese. With this finding, there is a need for a call for government agencies to have a management program, she said.

The projects goal is for employees in the region to become healthy and productive, reduce the prevalence of malnutrition such as obesity and achieve normal weight and for agencies to adopt the program and reduce the occurrence of non-communicable diseases (NCD).

Papey said obesity and overweight are risk factors for NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, cancer that affect a persons productivity and quality of life. Globally and nationally, NCDs are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality of which 30 percent are generally related to heart disease.

The search duration is from March to June 2020.

For the agency category, to be awarded will be agencies with the best healthy lifestyle program and highest percent reduction on identified indicators.

The agency must have an action plan and have conducted baseline and endline nutrition assessment of employees.

For the individual/employee category, employee/s with improved nutritional status from underweight to normal, highest reduction in waist circumference and with the highest reduction in weight will be recognized.

Moreover, there is a suggested government menu developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute called Pinggang Pinoy as guide for agencies in the procurement of food during conduct of seminars, workshops or meetings.

Papey said the Pinggang Pinoy or the food plate model was adopted by the sectoral committee of the Regional Development Council on Social Development. The model menu contains 50 percent fruit and vegetables, 33 percent rice and 17 percent protein. (JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR)

Renew your appreciation of a healthy lifestyle – News – The Daily … – Coldwater Daily Reporter

Christy Hart-Harris charris@thedailyreporter.com ChristyTDR

BRANCH COUNTY Eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle are important aspects to maintaining proper nutrition in your daily life, thats why the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Michigan Department of Community Health encourages Michiganders to renew their appreciation of healthy eating.

The inclusion of healthy foods, new and already enjoyed, is an important detail toward a healthy eating plan.

All-over health

One aspect of eating healthy that is sometimes overlooked is oral health.

Studies show that people who dont eat a healthy, balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables have a greater chance of severe gum disease, which is bad news for the 300,000 kids across Michigan who dont have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, said Ted ODell, manager of the American Heart Associations Michigan Healthy Food Access Campaign.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 1.8 million people across the state lack access to healthy food.

Wellness and economics are linked, said Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. For example, costs due to coronary heart disease, the most prevalent and preventable form of heart disease, exceed $5.9 billion per year in Michigan.

Treatment of heart disease accounts for 1 in every 6 health care dollars spent, he continued. While economic considerations are certainly important, the real value of a healthy lifestyle is quality of life.

Still enjoy your favorite foods

Eating healthy does not necessarily mean excluding favorite foods.

According to a study by the AND in 2011, 82 percent of adults in the U.S. stated they did not want to give up foods they like. This was a major reason for not wanting to eat healthy.

The overall diet is the important emphasis and not simply focusing on one type of food or meal.

All types of food in moderation combined with physical activity, can be enjoyed in an overall diet plan.

Healthy eating tips

AND, along with MDCH provides tips for Eating right, Your way, Every day.

PACK A LUNCH

A fast paced lifestyle can often lead to on-the-fly meals which may include fast food or other unhealthy eating.

To deter this type of eating, pack a lunch forwork or travel.

Healthy foods such as fruit or vegetables, granola bars, trail mix, whole grain cereal, low-fat cheese or peanut butter crackers can be stored in a desk, back pack, purse or brief case for easy access.

KEEP MEALS SIMPLE

When preparing a meal for the family it can sometimes be difficult to include food that everyone enjoys.

Keep the meal simple and build a collection of family favorite recipes.

MAKE EXTRA

Choose ingredients that can be used for more than one meal. For instance, cook enough chicken for a salad and for fajitas the next day.

INVOLVE CHILDREN IN MEAL PREPARATION

This will encourage and teach them the importance of healthy eating.

PORTION CONTROL

Portion control is vital to maintain healthy eating habits. The website http://www.choosemyplate.gov offers guidelines for portion control and can be used to determine sizes and types of food to be included in a healthy eating plan.

Children across Michigan deserve the chance to grow up healthy and strong, and with healthy teeth which starts with access to fresh, healthy food, ODell said.
