(HealthDay News) -- Researchers report that germs living in your gut could affect your risk of developing colon cancer.
The findings suggest that signs of the existence of some germs "are more frequently detected in subjects with polyps, early lesions that can develop into cancer, while other bacterial signatures are less frequently observed in such individuals," Tyler Culpepper, a University of Florida researcher, said in a news release.
Culpepper and colleagues studied 91 patients and took biopsy samples from their colons. They analyzed the bacteria in 30 people who had at least one polyp and 30 people who didn't but were of similar age and gender.
Researchers found some bacterial signatures only in those who had polyps and others only in those who didn't. Others were more common in one group or the other.
The findings suggest that future screening tests could aim to detect signs of trouble in the colon by measuring bacteria levels, Culpepper said. Read more...

Integrative Medicine or Alternative Medicine: What #39;s in a Label? There are many mainstream medical facilities, whether they #39;re for addiction treatment or physical rehab or just general well being, that offer holistic health options, which they term "integrative medicine" or "alternative medicine". Modalities such as yoga, acupuncture, working out in a gym, herbology, various dietary programs, tai chi and qi gong meditation to name a few, are listed on a menu of services. So are these services integrative medicine or alternative medicine? Is there a difference? Does it matter if the same exact therapy is called integrative medicine or alternative medicine? There is a difference between an integrative medicine and an alternative medicine. And the answer can be found in the basic differences between the definition of words integrative and alternative. In an integrative medicine approach, it is suggested that whatever is accomplished there will be effectively combined with and assimilated back into the western medical program. In an alternative medicine approach, this term is suggesting that it is offering another way of achieving medical success besides using the standard western approaches. Basically, in an integrative medicine model the holistic and western approaches work together to reach a goal whereas in the alternative medicine model the holistic approach is offered instead of the western standard. In an inpatient addiction treatment facility, this is an extremely ...From:Randy Lyons HAPViews:0 0ratingsTime:02:42More inEducation

DrRic Tutorial - Tumeric Curcumin for Arthritis/Muscle and Joint Pain/Colitis
Gave a lecture yesterday at Bodhi Prem Yoga about getting sick. Part of the lecture mentioned tonsil swelling and inflammation. After the infection is over, you can wait for the lymphnodes in the neck and tonsils in the throat to shrink or you can be proactive. Why speed up healing? Big tonsils hurt! Big tonsils also interfere with voice breathing and sleep. The same premise for decreasing inflammation of lymph nodes and tonsils can be applied to muscle and joint pain (like training for a hike in the Grand Canyon or your everyday arthritis sufferer. My training in sportsmedicine imparted knowledge on how to use antiinflammatory medicines to maximize healing and minimize side effects. My integrative medicine training with Andrew Weil has given me documented reviews on proper use of herbal supplements that speed up and compress the time frame of healing. Here is Tumeric......From:DrRic SaguilViews:7 0ratingsTime:06:48More inScience Technology

When I turned in my dissertation I had my fingers crossed, and yes, I did pass, and so I #39;m up here. Dr. Paul sent me an e-mail congratulating me. He said that this is not the end of your journey, this is just the beginning of your journey. And this is correct. "Commencement" means "beginning." And so, I #39;m beginning a journey. In two months I #39;m going to be 75 years young. At 75 years young I #39;m starting on a new journey. Let me preface something first. Let me make an analogy. Suppose you see your dog and he #39;s laying on the floor. He #39;s very relaxed. His head is down. He #39;s not asleep, but he #39;s aware of what #39;s going on. And suddenly his head picks up and his ears perks up, and his muscles tense and he stands up and he #39;s looking in the direction of the sound. Pretty soon he #39;s going off in the direction of that sound. And that #39;s what #39;s happened to me. I was listening to one of the courses and I was sitting back in the chair relaxed and computer in front of me and Dr. Paul and Dr. Goswami were talking about the future education and the direction that integrative medicine would be taking in the near future. And Dr. Goswami says something....and then I missed it! What did he say? For those of you who haven #39;t taken courses yet and you #39;re going to you, the neat thing about it is you can back it up. Integrative Medicine and Holistic Nutrition or Holistic nutritional approach- An Overview
http://www.naturalhealingcollege.com Integrative Medicine and Holistic Nutrition or Holistic nutritional approach- An Overview http Integrative and Holistic approaches are based upon considering the person as a whole and not just body parts. Integrative nutrition is the approach to diet and nutritional supplementation that is recommended in an integrative or complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) center. The focus should be on the whole person in an attempt to reaffirm the importance of the therapeutic relationship. Just as each person is completely unique, so should their care plan. http://www.naturalhealingcollege.com Integrative Medicine is defined by the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine (CAHCIM) as the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing. http Souce: integrativemed. kumc. edu and edmannutrition . com/integrative_nutrition_medicine.php youtu.be http://www.naturalhealingcollege.comFrom:naturalhealingcollegViews:8 0ratingsTime:02:21More inEducation
