Lecture 31. The Unknown Unknowns as in Suicide, as in Anna Karenina. – Video

Lecture 31. The Unknown Unknowns as in Suicide, as in Anna Karenina.
Jim Gustafson, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, giving his Thirty-First Lecture in a series of Thirty-Six Lectures on Maps in Psychiatry, as every Friday (but for an occasional vacation week), posted mid-afternoon on YouTube -- type in Jim Gustafson Channel -- or on his web site at http: //psychiatry.wisc.edu/gustafson. Also, the new book, from which these lectures are drawn into ten-to-fifteen minute form, is available with one click also on his web site electronically. These YouTube Lectures are for doctors and psychotherapists and patients and everyone interested in maps of the whole situation that will save us, distinguished from maps captured by only a part of the situation that can snare us. They become a new sub-specialty of psychiatry, different from the main paradigm that has become more like internal medicine, useful as that is, but more like obstetrics as a set of capacities for delivering the patients from their maps of part of a situation that ensnare them. William James called it a second birth and Michael Balint called it a new beginning. My week-long Symposium at the Door County Summer Institute will be next August 5-9, 2013 on this very subject for psychotherapists and doctors. This lecture takes its title and chief concern from a famous thirty-five second clip from a press conference with Donald Rumsfeld on YouTube you can find by typing in Donald Rumsfeld Unknown Unknowns. 1576 Oak BJB Properties Evanston – Video

1576 Oak BJB Properties Evanston
First there was the medical genius Dr. Nathan S. Davis, who founded the American Medical Association (AMA) in 1847, following that up with the co-founding of Northwestern Medical School, to eventually become the first editor of Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). 100+ years later, motion picture mastermind John Hughes cemented his place as a local legend, shooting a bevy of classic film scenes in and around Evanston, led by Major League, Uncle Buck and the classic coming-of-age movie, Sixteen Candles. Pretty cool. So what other possible reasons would anyone want to stay in Evanston? Live here and you #39;ll discover many. Say... for example, at the corner of Davis and Oak. Where mdash; above the street level flower shop, dry cleaner, yoga studio and women #39;s boutique mdash; there are rental homes with large floor plans, new windows, hardwood floors, spacious closets and a modern kitchen Topped off with creature comforts led by free heat, water, and amenities such as Internet and DirecTV Family Package programming. Who knows, you may spot a celebrity. B right where the action is.From:BJBSocial EvanstonViews:0 0ratingsTime:02:10More inPeople Blogs

UMMS targets new therapy for Alzheimer’s – Video

UMMS targets new therapy for Alzheimer #39;s
An international team of researchers from UMass Medical School, the University of Bonn and the Center for Advanced European Studies and Research in Germany have shown that an immune and inflammatory process already established as a clinical target for rheumatoid arthritis plays an important role in the pathology of Alzheimer #39;s disease, meaning drugs now used to target that process may benefit patients with Alzheimer #39;s. This process results in the mature production of the pro-inflammatory cytokine called interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta;) and is involved in the body #39;s defense against infection. The finding, published in Nature, points to the possibility that drugs that disrupt the production of IL-1 beta;, such as those for rheumatoid arthritis, may also prove beneficial for patients with Alzheimer #39;s. http://www.umassmed.eduFrom:UMassMedicalSchoolViews:3 0ratingsTime:03:21More inEducation
