Once Upon a Time's sought-after and much-anticipated role of Ariel belongs to JoAnna Garcia!
The redhead will be appearing in the third season when our characters travel to Neverland.
Joanna Garcia, 34, certainly looks the part of the Little Mermaid, doesn't she?
Once Upon a Time creator Adam Horowitz revealed the enchanting news Friday afternoon via Twitter writing: "So thrilled to welcome @JoAnnaLGarcia to the #OnceUponATime family as our Ariel!"
"Can't wait to bring you under the sea!"
No word yet on how he'll do that, but Garcia confirmed the news on Twitter as well, "Excited 2 share that I'll be swimming to @OnceABC as 'Ariel'! So honored 2 play such a beloved character!"

I was worried after the Hell on Wheels Season 3 premiere that with Bohannon taking the reigns of the railroad rather than continuing his revenge route and the rest of the characters simply falling back into their respective places, the original excitement and interests of the underrated show might dwindle away.
"Range War" was the reaffirming truth that with a little bit of time, new blood in a series might be the right step after all.
And where "Big Bad Wolf/Eminent Domain" was the slow start of setting everyone back on the track of building the railroad, the third episode provided the beginnings of some real conflict and story direction for the characters, all with some cool action, slow-mo shots and a little much needed humor.
It's clear that Bohannon is in charge and the workers around him are keen to follow his lead, but it was made far more evident that he hasn't lost his edge in the process. He can bark out orders, glare at others with command and can certainly take to getting involved as well.
Rather than the predictable attack on workers by the Native Americans (a stereotype in and of itself explored in the episode), the cattle theft was orchestrated by a group of white men presumably under orders from Durant.
In a classic shootout, Bohannan and Ferguson descended on the would-be thieves guns blazing, taking no prisoners. Bohannon felt like he was in his element deftly taking out men left and right. Granted some were drunk, lazy and half naked in the water, but still, enemies to the cause no less.
Ferguson has definitely gotten to be a better shot, contributing to the assault, as well as wiping out the last remaining survivor after he decided to run. I couldn't help but laugh when Bohannon exasperatedly said Ferguson's name in response to killing off the final person.
Of course, Durant played the innocent card, but it was a grand sight watching Bohannon step right up and call him out. And bringing the dead body to the table was a touch of perfection.
I'm still a bit hesitant on a battle between these two, but perhaps their drastically different approaches might make it all the more entertaining. After all, Bohannon didn't get rid of the McGinnes brother who had worked up a deal with Durant last episode.
Plus, the fact that Bohannon does indeed still act like a gunslinger even with his new found leadership role maintains that rough edge, but promises to be something more.
Unfortunately, another adversary Bohannon has to worry about is the union soldiers who decided to follow out Bohannon's original orders of slaughtering a group of Native Americans simply because they are the expected enemy to the United States. The leader was sinister enough playing with the heads of the deceased and commenting on their inhumanity, all the while shouting about great times ahead.
I hope he gets what's coming to him.
But the action sets up retaliation for Bohannon's workers, and further illustrates the conflict of the warring sides. And there isn't much that Bohannon can do with things set in motion, but prepare and deal with the situation. It's just disappointing that there are people that would ultimately cause more problems than necessary, but that was clearly a concept that many back then thought in facing off against the "savages."
It was also good to see a somber Bohannon placing the heads in the woods as the quiet final moments rather than another voiceover explaining everything.
As for Ferguson, he's got his own issues to deal with, besides new sheriff (I'm still bummed about the last one getting killed off). Turns out, Mr. Toole had a brother and that brother is looking to take over the familial role with Eva and the new baby.
And despite, Ferguson's repetitive "She's mine" (No DNA tests back then), Declan Toole looks like he's going to be sticking around for quite some time. It'll be interesting to see how that relationship works out, and the future of the new Mr. Toole seems promising.
But thank goodness the eccentric and fantastic Mr. Swede is back. He may seem to be playing a good person now, but I fear for the family that picked him up. When he raised that axe, I was waiting for him to bring it down on all of them. Even when they were sitting preying, there was some great tension simply from the fact of the character that he is that filled his short scenes.
I can't wait to see him return to the main storyline, but even on an off path, he never ceases to engross.
This was an action packed episode, full of some great lines from Bohannon, an interesting new relationship with Durant and Maggie Palmer (who already is a good addition), and a collective beginning of situations from the warring Native Americans, domestic issues and overall fighting over the railroad. This was what I was looking for in the premiere, and I'm pleased that Hell On Wheels still has that wild, exciting side.

Now that the TCAs have wrapped up, it’s been a whirlwind of interview writing and recapping from all the coverage I gathered at the event, parceling out as many scoops and spoilers to you as I can in anticipation of the upcoming fall season.
So I’m emptying out my Notebook this week with scoop from a Homeland Emmy nominee, The Originals’ creator and Katie LeClerc on Monday’s summer finale of Switched at Birth. Let's do this!
HOMELAND As Jessica Brody on the Showtime hit drama, Best Supporting Actress Emmy nominee Morena Baccarin told me not to expect to see her character get much happiness when the new season starts next month: “The end of season two was incredibly intense in the sense that [Jessica] found out her husband is in fact a terrorist and is out there in the world even though we, as the audience know that he’s potentially not guilty. So where we start at season three, she’s been dealing with months of the backlash of that. He gets to go away and be in hiding, but the family is out in the public eye, and so they’ve had to deal with death threats and things that have been going on with them.”
Baccarin - who told me her real life pregnancy will not be incorporated into the show - also regularly goes to Sci-Fi conventions, such as the recent Wizard World in Chicago. I asked her if she misses her short haircut from her days playing Anna on V and she said: “I do! I miss it all the time. It was a really easy, low maintenance way to be. I do miss it. The fun thing about hair is you can do whatever you want with it, you can cut it, you can grow it out and stuff. I’m sure I’ll be still ever changing.” (More to come from our chat next week on TV Fanatic.)
THE ORIGINALS Creator Julie Plec is one busy lady! This fall she’s overseeing the launch of The Vampire Diaries spinoff while still keeping an eye on the show she helped steer into a huge hit for The CW. As if that weren’t enough, she’s also Executive Producing The Tomorrow People with Greg Berlanti. She laid it out for me how she’s juggling it all. “The main priority at the moment is making sure The Originals gets up to speed and is great because if we make a mistake doing a spin-off that feels less than, or weaker than, or not as enjoyable as The Vampire Diaries, then we have failed so spectacularly…for me it's about, it's making sure that creatively, and then from a production point of view, that we are kicking ass.”
And while still involved, Plec has turned over the reigns of TVD to someone who knows the show well since she’s been there the last few seasons. “Thankfully, Caroline Dries is taking over The Vampire Diaries, and is pulling, probably, 80% of the workload there. So, I'm there for more of a supervisory assist. We spent a lot of time at the end of season four, breaking season five, so we've got that kind of covered.” At this early stage in both show’s seasons, Plec did breathe a sigh of relief that things are on a good track. “Thank God,” she remarked, “if that wasn't going well, I would probably be in an asylum.”
SWITCHED AT BIRTH The summer finale is coming on Monday for the ABC Family drama and Katie LeClerc (Daphne) teased what we might see in terms of whether sleazy Chip Coto will get his comeuppance in the finale. “The thing about Chip Coto is that he is scary,” LeClerc said. “I think he’s not afraid to retaliate. He definitely is aware that Daphne’s a minor, and I think that complicates things a little bit for him, potentially. But really it’s Coto against Kennish, and now that there’s two Kennishes, I think Coto’s barriers have gone up even more than they were before.”
On a lighter note, and with a third season coming in early 2014, who would LeClerc love to share scenes with on SAB and also help bring some music to the show? “I really think that it would be amazingly fantastic to have Kristin Chenoweth on our show,” she shared. “I’ve been pitching from the very, very, very, very, very beginning that we need to have a musical episode being that Constance Marie was originally a break dancer; Lea Thompson was originally a ballet dancer; Lucas Grabeel, obviously, High School Musical. I think that Kristin Chenoweth would be an amazing addition to, perhaps, a musical episode.”

The death of Cory Monteith has cast an understandable dark cloud over Glee Season 5.
In an interview this week, creator Ryan Murphy said the show would pay tribute to both the actor and the character of Finn on Episode 3, revealing that the latter will NOT die of a drug overdose.
As for what we can expect from new episodes? Fox has released the first teaser for the September 26th premiere, which doesn't reveal very much, aside from a fun one and an enthusiastic Will Schuester.
It will clearly be an unusual fall ahead for the series, but try to get excited for it via the following promo:

Another new face is set to join The Following.
With Sam Underwood on board as a new series regular and Connie Nielson set to play a love interest for Kevin Bacon's Ryan Hardy, E! News now confirms that Valerie Cruz will portray Gina Mendez, a detective who works closely with Mike Weston to track a serial killer in New York City.
The veteran actress (Alphas, True Blood, Homeland) will make her debut on the Season 2 premiere, set for some time in early 2014.
We already know that James Purefoy will return to The Following as Joe Carroll, an announcement made official at Comic-Con last month. But it now sounds as if another serial killer will also figure prominently into the storytelling.
Look for the premiere to pick up one year after events on the May finale and for Hardy to be a college professor when we see him again.

British artist Geoffrey Harrison is opening a solo show this Thursday, August 15th, 2013 at Barts Pathology Museum in London. As the artist-in-residence, in what CNN has named one of the World’s Weirdest Medical Museums, Geoffrey created 25 paintings based on the anatomical and pathological specimens found in the museum and they are gorgeous! The paintings also reference “the nature of spontaneous unnatural growth, damage, division and conjoining.”
The son of medical illustrators, Geoffrey creates work that revolves around biological and anatomical imagery that also “incorporates ideas of body as vessel for ‘self’ and the problematic boundaries of this in contrast to the ‘other’“.

It’s good to be Anna Chlumsky right now.
Shortly after giving birth to her first child in July, the actress got word that she received her first Emmy nomination for her role as Chief of Staff Amy Brookheimer on Veep, who spends her time trying to keep control of chaos magnet Selina Meyer, the Vice President of the United States, played by Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
In the first of TV Fanatic's Emmy Watch series, I talked to Chlumsky to find out what she thinks of her nomination and her hopes for Amy in the third season of Veep.

TV Fanatic: You're having a good summer with your new baby but you also received your first Emmy nomination! Congratulations on that.
Anna Chlumsky: Thank you so much. That was a pretty crazy week.
TVF: I bet. When did you find out about the nomination? Did you get woken up by phone calls with the news?
AC: No, I was up because I was feeding my daughter. She was a week old at the time. My manager called me. It being so early, I kind of knew. My husband had reminded me that the announcement would be that morning, but we weren't really having success in watching them online. It wasn't really the top thing that I was thinking about, and then my manager called me.
TVF: Wow. Do you get to pick the episode you wanted to submit?
AC: I did. I find that to be kind of funny especially in our show, which is such an ensemble show. I feel like you would want to just send the entire season. It's hard to choose one. But yeah, we chose our episode. I think it's episode eight [from the first season]. I think it’s a good one.
TVF: In terms of the second season do you think it was a good time for us to get to know Amy a little bit more since we met her family?
AC: Yeah, I think so. It also speaks to just how married to her work she is. If you keep her in the context of the office I think you get a taste of Amy, but once you take her outside of the office then you realize ‘oh geez, she's really only good at her job and not really good at anything else.’
TVF: What do you think the future holds for her in terms of romance?
AC: I actually don't know how Ed's going to come into play. It seems like it was - and this is really just conjecture - with the campaign brewing, the fundraising genius that he is, he's going to have to be present somehow. Narratively, I don't think they necessarily clicked as much as they were going to click but you never know how long it takes a character to figure that out before the audience does.
TVF: Since the campaign is going to be a big part of the third season, do you think it's a good or bad thing for Amy?
AC: I think she's going to love being part of the campaign. I think she's in a hinky position being the chief of staff because she's got to hold down the fort. I'm sure she would love to be at the forefront of all the excitement of the campaign as well. I think that could be one of her struggles is balancing being in the current administration with how it would interplay with what she would want to do with the campaign.
TVF: Given you being a new mother, do you think Amy would make a good mother?
AC: [laughs] Oh gosh. I wouldn't want to put that on her, honest to God. Just because I know that she's so conflicted about it in the first place. I think that she considers her work her baby, which is even kind of funny considering that she pretended to be with child at one point because of her work. That's the first season reference.
TVF: I do remember that.
AC: I definitely think that she'd like to put number one, number one. If anybody else becomes number one, she's terribly uncomfortable with that. For me it already takes up a lot of that room for her. Amy, then Selina, then gosh, would she have room for anybody else? I don't know.
TVF: This past year you still were dabbling in some drama series like Hannibal. Is that just something you consciously want to do as an actor, making sure you're doing some comedy and some drama?
AC: That's something I definitely do. I think that range and also stretching yourself is vital as an actor. I think that never, ever goes away no matter how busy you are. It is really important to me to play with other roles when I get the chance to.
Also, I personally approach comedy and drama the same way. I feel like scenes and how you face them can happen in both genres and if you’re telling a story, then you're doing your job. I don't really consider myself with mixing of comedy and drama as much as I try to look for different roles when I'm on hiatus from Veep.
TVF: How is motherhood? It's your first child, right?
AC: Yeah. It's new all the time. The learning curve is skyrocketing. There's days I'm like ‘oh my gosh! I have no idea what's happening.’ Then you learn something and you feel a little bit more confident so that's good.
TVF: The big question, of course: are you getting sleep?
AC: I am. There's no way I can complain. My husband and I have figured out a little shift system so both of us can get a good block in. There are no complaints here when it comes to sleep. I know a lot of people have all hours.
Veep returns for its third season in 2014. The 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards airs September 22 on CBS.
