Grey's Anatomy has seen a lot of characters come and go, and, as a result, some amazing friendships have been struck up on the way. When Alex Karev first appeared in the pilot episode back in 2005, the character was written in late to give the show a bit of an edge, as Alex was a total jerk.

Over time, though, Alex gradually began to mellow and became the man everyone knew he was inside. A major factor in Alex's growth was Arizona Robbins, head of Pediatric surgery, who taught Alex to be a better person and a brilliant surgeon. However,there are many reasons why these two aren't really friends.

When Alex and Arizona first met, Arizona was the new attending assigned to a young boy's case after the previous doctor died. Arizona insisted on putting the child on the transplant list as soon as possible, and she was surprised that nobody had done that already, given the state of the boy's intestines and liver.

Both Alex and Miranda Bailey didn't like Arizona's new approach, and they complained about her behind her back.Alex was bugged by Arizona's perkiness, even when they had to harvest a dying child's organs to save their own patient.

When Arizona made her Grey's Anatomy debut in season five, she and Callie Torres were immediately attracted to each other. After a slow start, they embarked on a relationship with each other, going on to become an extremely popular fan-favorite couple.

However, in the season nine finale, Arizona cheated on Callie, who was understandably devastated and angry, refusing to forgive Arizona. Arizona planned an elaborate apology, but Alex told her to just say sorry, shaming her. While Arizona's actions were questionable, you just don't shame a friend like that.

In one of season 14's funniest episodes, the majority of the surgical staff at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital were rendered useless after Arizona was accidentally given homemade cookies laced with weed from a grateful patient. Arizonahad already handed the cookies around before she realized.

One of the recipients of the weed cookies was Alex, who started acting high, forcing Amelia Shepherd and Owen Hunt to bring him home with them. While this was a great episode, Alex (and the other doctors) could have gotten into serious trouble all because of Arizona's mistake.

To be clear, neither Alex nor Callie cheated on Arizona, as this all took place in a flashback. In season six, the doctors attended a series of lectures given by attendings and senior members of staff, including Callie. Callie was struggling with nerves, and so Alex and Arizona encouraged her from the audience.

After a shaky start, Callie soon found her groove, and her chosen case was actually quite interesting. After encountering difficulties, Alex and Callie managed to save their patient, which led to them celebrating by having sex. Arizona didn't know about this, and so she was understandably a bit cross.

When Alex appeared in early seasons, he was a misogynistic, arrogant, hot-headed ass. Thankfully, though, he soon grew up to become a likable and trustworthy colleague. However, things soon got awkward.

In season 13, Arizona was then living with Andrew DeLuca, and they had built up quite a sweet friendship despite Arizona being DeLuca's boss. Unfortunately, due to a fatal misunderstanding, Alex saw DeLuca with Jo Wilson and severely beat him up. DeLuca had to undergo multiple surgeries, and Alex was arrested. It shouldn't have to be said, but beating up your friend's flatmate is a no go where friendship is concerned.

In season 8, Alex and all the other fifth-year residents became involved in a mad scramble in a bid to find a fellowship for next year. Alex was struggling slightly, as his project where he brought children to the hospital for surgery was over a year ago. Just when he was about to give up, he got an offer from Johns Hopkins.

They were incredibly impressed by his performance at his board exams and made him a once in a lifetime offer. Naturally, Alex considered all his options before choosing to accept the offer. However, this meant betraying Arizona who had taught him everything he knew and who was expecting him to stay with her.

Arizona and Callie's relationship was great while it lasted, but, sadly, in season 11, the two surgeons went their separate ways. Fortunately, they still remained civil towards each other and even considered them to be friends. However, when Callie announced she was moving to New York, that all went out the window.

Callie assumed she would be taking Sofia with her, much to Arizona's horror. The couple then initiated a savage custody battle that didn't exactly paint either woman in a good light. However, Arizona needed her friends to vouch for her, and, when she asked Alex, he refused, stating he couldn't choose sides.

When Arizona found out that Alex was leaving her for Johns Hopkins, it's safe to say that she was not at all happy. In all fairness to Alex, Arizona's bad mood was not only due to his perceived betrayal; earlier that day, Arizona's late brother's childhood friend told her that he was dying.

Unable to cope with the fact that she would soon lose another part of her brother, Arizona was already on edge. When Alex told her about his decision, she snapped and took his place on the plane, as well as removing Alex from all pediatric surgeries. If it weren't for Alex, Arizona would still have her leg.

For the most part, watching Arizona's and Alex's friendship blossom over the course of ten seasons was a joy to behold. Alex learned how to be sensitive, not just with his young patients, but their parents, as well, and Arizona got a brilliant new peds surgeon.

This all went swimmingly until the dreaded plane crash occurred. If anything, the aftermath was even more brutal than the crash itself. The injured were transferred to Seattle Grace, but Arizona's infection in her leg threatened to kill her. Therefore Alex had to cut off her leg, potentially jeopardizing their friendship.

Alex and Arizona did have an amazing relationship on Grey's Anatomy, despite all their ups and downs. However, the main reason why they are not truly friends is because their relationship consists of a mentor/mentee situation.

They've never really hung out together outside of work properly, and they don't really discuss their personal lives with each other. They like each other and respect the hell out of each other, but it's mainly professional between the two. Despite this, both Arizona and Alex have had a massive impact on each other's lives, and they will always be important to one another.

Greys Anatomy just wants us to clutch our hearts out of worry forever, doesnt it? As weve seen over the last two episodes, our dear Richard Weber is not feeling like himself. In fact, something is very wrong, and it becomes glaringly obvious in this weeks episode as all the important doctors of Grey-Sloan come together to figure out his diagnosis.

And while were on the topic of emotional stories, Koracick had one of his own this week. His ex-wife showed up with her son from her now-husband and it turned out he was a doppelganger of her and Koracicks son that passed away. It catches him off guard and throws him for a loop as he attempts to treat the kids brain tumor after Amelia is unable to.

I will giveGreys Anatomy an A for effort on trying to balance the heavy with some humor and laughs. Case in point? The patient who cant stop singing after her surgery (dont worry, it was because of the anesthesia), or Amelias hilarious commentary during her Braxton-Hicks contractions.

All in all, it was a rough episode ofGreys Anatomyto get through, and Im left worried sick about Richards future. Not to mention, the series has to conclude its season early given it hadnt finished production and was unable to complete the remaining episodes.

So, how are they going to wrap this up? Your guess is as good as mine.

Okay, so correct me if Im wrong, but dont a lot of Richards symptoms point to a neurological condition? I know throughout the episode they ran through a battery of tests but what if it is advanced dementia or Alzheimers?

I know Meredith doesnt want it to be Alzheimers and has an emotional history with that illness, but it just might be. Having said that, his symptoms are very confusing and are all over the place. The most alarming ones are the visual and auditory hallucinations. Last week, he thought Catherine was at the conference and had full-fledged conversations with her.

This week, Meredith caught him in an OR holding a scalpel to his stomach imagining that he was performing surgery on someone else. These are full-blown hallucinations which are pointing to a very scary, serious problem.

But dont worry, Grey Sloans smartest and brightest are on the case and together theywill figure it out.

Greys Anatomy has had a musical episode in its past (if you havent seen it yet, please go back and watch), however, this week a patient wakes up singing after surgery. It turns out nothing was actually wrong and the surgery wasnt to blame. Rather, the effects of the anesthesia caused the issue.

But what was really sweet about this particular patient was her relationship with her husband. The whole experience brought them even closer than they already were when they first came in. In fact, after the wife finally stops singing, the husband continues to sing to her.

It was all sorts of cuteness and adorable!

Its safe to say thatGreys Anatomy has a hard time with Koracicks character. We know hes an angry, conflicted guy, but at the same time, theres a softness to him. Weve seen it with Amelia and weve definitely seen it with Teddy.

But yet, the show always bounces back and forth between these two versions.

In any case, this week was a tough one for the guy. Hes completely caught off-guard when his ex-wife shows up with her husband and their son, who is a doppelganger to Koracick and her son that passed away.

Naturally, it was a very jarring moment for Koracick and he couldnt get a handle on his emotions. This is why Amelia had to step in to treat the kid, who had a very complicated brain tumor. It was tough to see Koracick battle the way he did this week, and it only got worse when he was the one that had to perform the surgery, given Amelias fake labor situation.

But thanks to Teddys presence and support, he got through it!

No, Im sorry, Amelia didnot have the baby. As it turns out all that hoopla was not her going into labor, but rather Braxton-Hicks contractions. I have to admit I was incredibly excited to see Amelia and Link begin this new chapter of their life. Theyre such an adorable couple, arent they?

Which is why Im so relieved thatGreys Anatomy brought them together instead of split them apart. We dont have many great couples left on this show, so Im absolutely rooting for this one. Fingers crossed that next time Amelia has contractionsits the real deal.

Side note: Her commentary during the painful Braxton-Hicks contractions were absolutely hilarious And I love how Link was there for it.

After all the back and forth romantic confusion Teddy has been experiencing, I think she finally has decided the man for her. I have to say Im a bit disappointed over her behavior, and at some point in this episode. I really thought she was leaning towards Koracick.

Shes been toying with the poor guy enough, not to mention Owen hasno idea that shes been hooking up with Koracick on the side. In any case, this episode ofGreys Anatomy finally convinced Teddy that Owen is the man for her.

Considering that shes engaged to the guy, Im glad she figured it out. And its a good thing because

In the middle of a lovemaking session, Owen and Teddy decide theyre going to get marriedlike ASAP.

Former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Jessica Capshaw Was Turned Down For Two Roles Before Landing the Part of Arizona Robbins – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Fans of Greys Anatomy were saddened to learn that Jessica Capshaw, who portrayed pediatric surgeon Dr. Arizona Robbins, was being written out of the show at the conclusion of Season 14. Few may realize that while Capshaw nailed the role of Dr. Robbins, she had previously auditioned for two parts on the show but was passed over.

Shortly after welcoming her first child in 2007 with husband Christopher Gavigan, Capshaw learned of an available role on the popular medical drama.

I auditioned for this show two weeks after I had my son Luke, and I was not interested in auditioning for anything because I was interested in being a mother, Capshaw recalled, according to TV Guide. But my agent called me and said, I wouldnt call you for any other reason other than Greys Anatomy, because I know thats your favorite show.'

The actress tried out for the part of Nurse Rose, the romantic interest of none other than Dr. Derek McDreamy Shepherd (portrayed by Patrick Dempsey) when he was on the outs with longtime love Dr. Meredith Grey. Capshaw had hoped she had an advantage due to previously working with Demspey.

So two weeks after I had the baby, I auditioned for Nurse Rose. I knew Patrick because I had worked with him two years prior, so he and I got along real well, Capshaw shared. But they picked the other girl and I was like, Man!'

Actress Lauren Stamile was given the part of Nurse Rose, though the characters relationship with Derek was short-lived.

In 2008, Capshaw tried putting her acting skills to the test again when she auditioned for the role of Sadie Harris, a freewheeling intern and former college friend of Meredith. Yet again she wasnt chosen for the part.

I went in for a part that hadnt been named yet, but she was this sexually promiscuous, adventurous part, and I didnt get the role again, Capshaw remembered. That was Melissa Georges part, Sadie.

Capshaw began to get a bit frustrated with producers raving about her performance yet not signing her up for the show. They kept saying they really love me and I was like, If they really love me, I would have a part in the show,' the former Greys star revealed, adding that her persistence did the trick. A month later, I got a three-episode offer to play Arizona Robbins.

Leaving the hit ABC series in 2018 after nine years on the show, Capshaw was began pursuing other projects including a role in the Netflix film Holidate with Kristen Chenoweth and Emma Roberts. Even though the mom of four was continuing a hectic schedule, she made time to give a shout out to her former gig when Greys Anatomy hit a major milestone.

Ok, sooootonight is a BIG night for@greysabc, Capshaw wrote on Instagram in February 2019. The airing of tonights episode makes it the longest running prime time medical drama EVER.

Capshaw even donned her characters lab coat to celebrate the occasion, posting a selfie along with her well-wishes. Soooo in honor of this exceptional distinctionI pulled out Dr. Arizona Robbins trusty lab coat, dusted it off, brought it out into the sunshine and I took it for a spin, she wrote, while giving props to her former colleagues. @shondarhimes and @beersbetsy THANK YOU for bringing this show to our television screens (and computers and phones).

The Greys alum expressed her gratitude for being a part of such a successful series. This show is a total dreamboat and I am so fortunate to have taken a cruise on itgrateful times a millionxoxo Congratulations!!! she wrote.

House

This is considered to be actor Hugh Laurie's most popular show that premiered in 2004 and ran for eight seasons. This is one of the new entrants in the genre. Dil Mill Gayye

Back home, "Dil Mill Gayye" was a sequel to the successful medical TV show "Sanjivani: A Medical Boon" (2002 to 2005) that featured Mohnish Bahl, Karan Singh Grover, Jennifer Winget and Karan Wahi as doctors. It revolved around their characters and their jobs at Sanjeevani hospital. The show started in August 2007 and came to an end in October 2010. It is now available on Disney+ Hotstar.

Sanjivani

Creator Siddharth Malhotra's "Sanjivani" made a return to the small screen last year with mostly a fresh cast and a new story. The new version even took a leap. The story then focussed on how heart-broken Ishani, has given up on her dreams of becoming the best doctor and finding love. The original version's Mohnish Bahl and Gurdeep Kohli were seen in some episodes, but the cast was led by Namit Khanna and Surbhi Chandna. It is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

By 2009, Heigl was already fielding film offers and juggling her schedule to fulfill her commitment to Greys. Starring alongside Gerard Butler in The Ugly Truth, both Heigl and Greys producers had to make some creative arrangements regarding her shooting time. Yet when Heigl made an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, the actress was quite vocal on her grueling work agenda.

Our first day back was Wednesday, she told Letterman in July 2009, according to Newsday. It was Im going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them a 17-hour day, which I think is cruel and mean.

At the time, her characters fate was left hanging due to surgery for a brain tumor. You last saw Izzie, you know, flatlining, Heigl explained. So, I wont give it away, but, you know, Im there so Im either there as a ghost, on the other side, or I survived a disease no one survives.

Letterman picked up on her comment, noting Im guessing if youre working 17 hours, that means youre not dead. Heigls responded saying, What if, however, Dave, I was in a bed in a coma for 17 hours? They could do that to me.

The brass at ABC didnt take too kindly to Heigls remarks, issuing some comments of their own.

I think its unfortunate, ABC entertainment presidentStephen McPhersonsaid, as reported by NBCLosAngeles.com. People are going to behave in the way they choose to behave. There are so many people who work so hard on Greys, and all of our shows, without any notoriety and those are the ones Id be concerned about, people who feel like theyre being criticized or looked down upon.

While show producers revealed that Heigls long work day was to accommodate her film schedule for The Ugly Truth, the actress wasnt completely convinced and felt she put a burden on the production crew.

If that is true, I really wish [the producers] had warned me. I would have forgone the talk shows, she told Entertainment Weekly in 2010. I asked the entire crew without really understanding that I was asking this to work a 17-hour day. And for them its much worse than just 17 hours. They get there an hour before us and they leave an hour after us. And they all have families they want to get home to. They dont get any of the attention and they dont get the paycheck.

Heigl claimed she didnt get any flak after the interview when she returned to the set, though she did get appreciation from the crew. No one brought it up because I think they were all like, Ehh, Katie, the Greys alum recalled. But there were some members of the crew who actually thanked me for saying something because they cant say anything.

For the last 15 years, Mandy Sullivan, who teaches Grade 6 at St. Francis Elementary School in Richmond, has been creating a little extra time from April to June to help prepare the schools annual graduation ceremonies. Of course, the template she and her team developed over that time has been all but discarded this year because of the COVID-19 epidemic.We normally get together early in April to start talking about the graduation exercises, Mandy Sullivan says. The two Grade 6 teachersJasmine Mason has been teaching the other Grade 6 class the last few yearsare always involved but were always joined by four or five other teachers who want to help out.One of the first things we have to do is narrow down the list of students who are candidates for awards and prizes, she explains. In all there are about 20 awards given. Some students will get a plaque, others receive a book, and this means getting plaques engraved and shopping for books.In May, she continues, we start talking to the students about graduation, and we spend time on the valedictorians address. The students are conscious that this is a moment to both look back and look ahead, at the end of one phase of their education and the beginning of another. Interested students write a short valedictory speech as an exercise in writing and in public speaking. Students and teachers are involved in selecting the student who will deliver the valedictory address at graduation. Some years we have two valedictorians, and some years theyre joined by one or two other students who will recite something.In June, as graduation grows closer, the committees job list grows longer, and more people get involved.Both the Richmond St. Patricks Society and the St. Francis College Corporation present awards and we have to get in touch with their representatives, Mandy says. We also contact Kirk Robinson, the principal at RRHS, and invite him to address our graduates as our guest speaker. Perhaps most important we begin coordinating with the Parents Participatory Organization because they are the people who are in charge of the reception that follows in the gym right after the graduation exercises.These are held in the large space that was designed in the early 1940s to serve the dual purpose of auditorium and gymnasium. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s’ Kevin McKidd Shares Why He Initially Had to Turn Down a Meeting With Shonda Rhimes – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Kevin McKidd joined Greys Anatomy as a regular cast member in 2008. Taking on the role of Dr. Owen Hunt, the actor had his work cut out for him playing the complex character yet has completely embodied the part.

The Scottish actor had an impressive list of credits to his name before getting the call for the ABC medical drama, as well as being a married father of two. Most trying to make it big in Hollywood would drop everything if they received an invite from show creator Shonda Rhimes, but McKidd had a more pressing engagement when she asked to meet with him for the part of Owen.

The Greys Anatomy star had been working on several projects before the ABC hit came along, including parts in television and film. He described receiving the call about the role of Owen after a previous NBC series ended and he was on location for a movie with two Hollywood heavy hitters.

I went off and did Journeyman and then there was the writers strike. I was waiting around in Hollywood with a young family going, Maybe we should just go back to Britain,' McKidd told TV Guide. I got a phone call from my agent saying Shonda Rhimes called about meeting me. I was actually in Romania doing a movie with Woody Harrelson and Ron Perlman and he said, They need to see you on the day you land.'

At the time, the actor was married to Jane Parker and the couple had two young children son Joe and daughter Iona. McKidd revealed that he had a conflict of interest on the day Rhimes wanted to meet. The day I landed, I had been away for three months [and] it was my sons birthday, he said. So I said, Im sorry. I cant meet her its my sons birthday. I hope she can understand.'

Despite cancelling, McKidds commitment to his son won the women over. Supposedly Shonda tells the story that her and [producer] Betsy [Beers], when they heard that, said, What a great guy,' McKidd shared. So, it kind of paid off.

McKidd was able to reschedule with Rhimes to discuss the character and soon discovered that he was on the short list to play the role. I went and saw them the next day, and we just started chatting. I didnt read for it, the Greys star said. They told me about this new character that was going to be Iraq vet who was dark and messed up. It was between me and one other actor.

And the rest, as they say, is history. Then, sure enough, I got a phone call that Shonda decided to give me the role, McKidd said.

McKidd wasnt told too much about the character before he took it on but knew hed be in good hands with the show producers and writers. I did not know what this character was going to be, he explained. I had to take the role in blind faith.

Though he hadnt yet been introduced to his onscreen romantic partner Sandra Oh, who portrayed Dr. Cristina Yang, McKidd and the actress knew they were going to be a great team after just one scene together.

He was designed to be Cristinas new love interest. Sandra and I hadnt met at that point. The first day Sandra and I met, we did a scene together and she was so sweet, the Scottish actor shared. She said, Thank you! Thank you for being a good actor. And then we just hit it off from that point.

Though Oh departed the hit medical drama in 2014, McKidd would love for her character to reemerge on the show. I hope [Oh] will [return toGreys Anatomy]. I think it would be so much fun and it would open up so much again in the story and mix everything up,he told Entertainment Tonight in 2017. Shes just such an amazing actor that I still miss her to this day, every day at work Were good friends.

Grey’s Anatomy Star Camilla Luddington on The Vampire Diaries? It Almost Happened! – TV Fanatic

Grey's Anatomy actress Camilla Luddington came close to playing a pivotal role on The Vampire Diaries, and it would have stopped her from playing Jo Wilson.

Luddington took to Twitter over the weekend to reveal characters she had auditioned for in the past, and one of them was Rebekah Mikaelson on The Vampire Diaries.

Claire Holt ultimately landed the role and also went on to star in New Orleans-set spinoff The Originals.

"Was reminiscing with my husband about some roles we auditioned for (over a decade ago) and didn't get," Luddington tweeted. "I was thinking it might be fun to share just a couple ha!!!!

"I auditioned for (and Obvs didn't get but thought it would be so fun to play) Rebekah on #TheVampireDiaries."

Fans were shocked, with one suggesting that Luddington wouldn't have been cast in Grey's Anatomy had she been successful in auditioning for Vampire Diaries, prompting the star to reply:

"I would not being playing Jo, that's exactly right!"

Luddington also auditioned for the parts of Alex Dupre on One Tree Hill, as well as Alex on Nikita.

Jana Kramer ultimately snagged the role of Alex, while Lyndsy Fonseca played Alex.

"I auditioned and realllllly wanted Alex in #Nikita but the wonderful Lyndsy Fonseca killed it in that role," she said.

Luddington joined the cast Grey's Anatomy in 2012, and was promoted to series regular for the next season.

Jo blossomed into one of the best characters on Grey's Anatomy, and it seems the character will continue to develop well into next year.

The series has been renewed for Season 17, but there's a lot of material for Jo to work with. She's still trying to come to terms with the fact that her husband left her -- for his ex.

If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you know Jo claimed she was ready to move on, but there will likely be some changes for her when the next season gets underway.

Inside the Jefferson medical archives, where the most popular item is 1840’s ‘Anatomy of the Breast’ – Billy Penn

Philadelphia is home to the ninth oldest medical college in the United States and the fascinating archives that come with it.

Founded in 1824, Thomas Jefferson University has maintained a wealth of records. Most impressively, many of them are digitized. Staff have worked since 2005 to upload materials to an accessible and searchable online repository.

Thats the most exciting part, is to discover it for yourself, university archivist F. Michael Angelo told Billy Penn. We saved almost everything. Its a really rich collection, very detailed, very complete.

That means in quarantine, you can peruse centuries of health records totally free.

You wouldnt be alone. I suspect were getting new audiences now, Angelo said. Weve been getting more emails and phone calls asking questions, especially about genealogy.

The archives contain leads into stories about all number of topics, from war history to womens rights to scandals over racist body snatching. The most popular item? Look no further than an 1840 text on the anatomy of the breast.

Read on for a few highlights to get you started.

If youre interested in what its like to perform emergency medical procedures under extreme duress, look to the Civil War.

There are dozens of records on military surgery from the 1850s and 60s, when Jefferson doctors were overwhelmed with wartime injuries. The documents cover surgical technicalities, descriptions of emotional strife, and notes about the importance of medical professionals on the battlefield.

In the 1861 book A Manual of Military Surgery, Jefferson surgeon Samuel Gross wrote:

No men of any sober reflection would enlist in the service of their country, if they were not positively certain that competent physicians and surgeons would accompany them in their marches and on the field of battle, ready to attend to their diseases and accidents.

A dark spot on Jeffersons history is its sexist legacy. The Philly medical school was among the last in the country to start accepting women as students, according to Angelo, the archivist. But at least the experiences of these female pioneers were well recorded.

They did a really nice job interviewing some of those in the very first class of women, from 1961 to 1967, Angelo said.

There are about a dozen recorded interviews with women who graduated in Jeffersons first few integrated classes with audio files and written transcriptions available online.

Nancy Szwec Czarnecki tells her story as the first woman ever to graduate from Jeffersons medical school. Theres also Bonnie Lee Ashby, who later moved onto an infectious disease fellowship at Lankenau.

Anita Robinson first attended grad school at Penn but then realized she wanted to practice medicine first hand instead of research it. Shes still working in Philadelphia as a specialist in adolescent medicine.

Over the past 200 years, Thomas Jefferson University has graduated more than 46,000 medical students. By Angelos estimation, if your fam has been in Philly awhile, youre likely to find someone you know in their diploma records.

Somebody in Philadelphia who has an interesting last name probably can look in the directory and find forebears with the same last name, Angelo said. The odds are pretty good.

Here are the steps to find someone:

If youre lucky, you could find past work of someone related to you or your friends, and perhaps even find their signature in one of the university ledger books.

For those who like to confront their own mortality, searching the Jefferson archives for the word dissection will yield a whopping 1,177 results.

If you choose to click, many of them reveal pics of white men with handlebar mustaches, crowded around medical tables. Sometimes its dozens of people watching, sometimes just a few. Some of the bodies theyre observing have been resorted to skeletons, while some look mostly normal.

In the 19th century, it was tough to find cadavers on which to practice, and the college was at one point entangled in a scandal over body snatchers who raided Black cemeteries and sold disinterred bodies for $8 apiece.

Especially considering the provenance of whats on the table, the pictures are super interesting. They also reveal the evolution of popular facial hair choices of Phillys medical types over the years.

Keep your inner preteen boy from giggling if you must, but its true. The most popular item in the archives has to do with female anatomy.

According to Jefferson archivist Angelo, Anatomy of the Breast by Sir Astley Cooper has been downloaded more than 20,000 times and surpasses any other archive document in number of views.

I have to wonder how many of those downloads are because it has the word breast in it, Angelo said. Still, its a really cool item.

Though the thing was written in the 19th century, its still super accurate among the most accurate drawings of breast anatomy in the history of medicine, Angelo said. So its popular among medical students and researchers and yes, prob some internet trolls, too.

EDIT: Something was nagging me about my review, and I realized I forgot to talk about how disgusting this book talks about Androgynous people. I've added it in bold near the bottom.

Okay it's time to put on my big girl panties and review this book.

Firstly, I want to thank Atria books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book by sending me a review copy. They are my favourite publisher, and while I didn't enjoy this book, that still remains because I have never disliked one of the

A brief synopsis: A female lawyer is going to be prosecuting a member of the parliament, high up in the government and friends with the Prime Minister, in court for raping a woman he was having an affair with.

This went from bad to worse for me sadly. It has everything going for it at first and that made me extremely skeptical. It seemed too good to be true to see a topic this important done well and actually including an important social commentary. However, there is a fine line between social commentary and preaching and sadly, for me, this book tipped way over into the preachy side of things.

I should probably mention now that every issue I am mentioning is caused by the writing. The book and topic isn't MEANT to be preachy, but the writing makes it so.

The plot is actually not horrible, but once again, the author made some choices for the book that I didn't really understand. Because the focal point of the book is the rape court case, she has very choppy time cuts. We go from the man being arrested, to the preliminary court case, to the actual court case, in 3 chapters. There is no in between, the time we would normally have to get the story about what happens, the time we could get character development, get growth and learn, but instead we leave the preliminary hearing at the end of 1 chapter and are dropped off in the court again at the beginning of another chapter. The flow was off, and therefore the pacing was off.

The characters sadly also suffered from the writing. There was no development and therefore I didn't care about anyone. I didn't care about the outcome of the court case. We never meet the victim, are never introduced to her, and everyone else is so underdeveloped that you are left with little emotion to the rest of the characters. (We meet her through the lawyer, so we don't actually get to know her) I will say, the book actually does show how charming the man could be, because I did actually find his chapters quite charming.

Now: the writing. I have issues with the writing to the point where I don't really know where to begin.

Issue 1: The perspectives. There are many different character perspectives in this, all of them in 3rd person, except the prosecuting lawyer, who was written in first person. In my opinion, this was a grave mistake. It felt EXTREMELY uncomfortable to read from this characters perspective. She spoke directly to the reader, and I mean directly. "Oh, I am in a bad mood. You can tell I am in a bad mood when I start talking like a high school politician." This is the narrator telling the reader something, and I did not like it, because it did not fit into this book. There is, straight up, and entire page later in the book where the narrator talks and talks about rape and how a woman never asks for rape. This is 100% true, and amazing social commentary, but it's being told to the audience by the narrator. She is not thinking it, or speaking it outloud, she is speaking to the audience. This is where I found the book got extremely preachy, it had great messages, but were just straight up told to us with really nothing else. It was kind of like if you watched a movie and it had really important messages and then all of a sudden the actor paused the movie and turned to the camera and looked directly into the camera and started telling you why what you were watching was important. It's not that it's wrong, it's just that it really messes with the flow of the movie. That's sort of what Kate's chapters were like to me when reading.

Issue 2: Diversity. Now, this is a story about women and really the only male character is the alleged rapist. But, Vaughan felt the need to be extra specific that there was some diversity. When learning about the jury members, which was done in passing and they are very unimportant and only mentioned like twice, she would always specifically state that the man was an "asian man" and that the man was a "black man" but never any other time. No "white man" in the audience, just man. Simply saying "the jury was filled with people with different races and genders" or something would have worked. There is an actual line, well I am quoting from an ARC so there may be changes in the final copy, that says "the jurors smile back at him and nod, these twelve good men, though seven of them were women." ................I don't even know what to say to that? Like okay, there were 7 women and 5 men, but what's so hard about saying that. It's almost like she has to point out how it COULD have been all men, but she added diversity and put some women on the jury. I'm fairly certain it's against the law to have a jury of the same gender anyways. I just didn't mesh well to the way this book tried to include diversity.

Issue 3: Everything. This is a bit rough to say, but I didn't like any aspects of this story. Even the rape case itself was very poorly done in my opinion because the possibility of innocence is never offered to the readers. We HAVE to think he is guilty, because he IS guilty. But the reader would rather make that decision on their own when given all the information, than be told what to believe. That was a hard aspect for me to deal with, and is a lot of the criticism I had. I wrote in this book, my first time ever doing this. I wrote over and over again that there is little mention, while it's EXTREMELY rare, that men are sometimes wrongly accused of rape. I did understand as the book progressed why this decision was made on the authors part, but it didn't make me feel any better as a reader.

So I said up above I forgot to talk about this authors portrayal of Androgynous people, and god I can't believe I did. I actually had smoke coming out of my ears in this moment. I am going to use exact quotes, but I am reading an ARC copy so my quotes may be changed/removed in the final edition"She's sufficiently slim to pull off the androgynous, waif-like look, and it has desexualized her body."Another instance:"....her unnecessary sexiness fought until she became almost androgynous.."Umm... implying that androgynous people are not sexy is not really very body positive/female positive at all. Like what's the point of this entire sentence. My favourite model is Rain Dove and they are androgynous and they literally fight all the time for androgynous people to still be seen as sexy. The character literally uses this to tell us how her client, the victim, is appearing in court. This implies that the author thinks androgynous people won't be raped, and that they aren't sexy. I just can't with this.

I'm going to end this by saying that sometimes you can read a story and absolutely just not care about the way the book is written. I think, for many, this will be one of those cases. Unfortunately I found the book itself got way too much in the way for me to enjoy the story. I don't personally recommend it at all, but I also do respect others decisions to read this, and can respect people that ignored it's flaws and chose to look at just the things the book was trying to say.

Bolton 1-3 Reading FC: The Anatomy Of A Perfect Away Day – The Tilehurst End

Its an age-old conversation topic for football fans that can easily fill an evening in the pub, or multiple for the die-hard. Whats your favourite ever away game?

Reading fans are pretty blessed in this regard. The obvious answers include Southampton and West Ham away in 2012, the play-off demolition of Cardiff a year earlier, and the Bryniesta inspired beating Liverpool in the FA Cup.

But every fan has their personal favourites, those perfect days that rest in the lower tiers of Reading folklore. Mine include the 3-1 promotion six-pointer win at Birmingham in 2008, the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford earned by our second-string XI in the 2006/07 FA Cup. And then theres Bolton.

On April 21, 2007, 13 years ago as I sit here today, Steve Coppells side found themselves 1-0 down to Bolton at the Reebok Stadium with 83 minutes on the clock. On the face of it, this isnt a particularly impressive prologue to a Lazarus-esque tale.

But Reading were dreaming of Europe in their first season of Premier League football, and Sam Allardyces side were a major rival with established faces such as Nicolas Anelka, Kevin Nolan and El Hadji-Diouf in their ranks. It was also a chance to see how the other half lives. A decade-and-a-half earlier, Bolton were not an intrinsically bigger team and their rise in that period set the blueprint for the Royals own ambitions - having featured something of a fork in the road 12 years earlier.

The hosts had generally been the better team for those 83 minutes. Anelkas second-half opener came via an unfortunate attempted block from Nicky Shorey but couldnt really be argued with. Readings best chance came in an agonising goalmouth scramble that suggested a typically tough day in the life of a small fish in a big pond.

Then the last six minutes happened. Kevin Doyles frankly rude insistence on running at goal brought an errant leg from Abdoulaye Meite. That was the thing about that Reading team, they didnt care who you played for, they just turned up and beat you. They didnt know they were born. The Irishman picked himself up to slot home the equaliser.

Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen prepared to take a goal kick a minute later and took his time, earning a hounding from his own supporters desperate to re-take the lead. If only they knew what he knew. In the 89th minute, a cross from the right floated over to Doyle whose brazen arrogance allowed time for the ball to settle perfectly on the six-yard line, Bolton studs stabbing at his heels, before belting it home.

Reading had the lead but the fun wasnt over. Shorey tricked his way down the left wing and a perfect cross was only inches over the head of a hat-trick hunting Doyle. That left Shane Long with a free header to make it 3-1. Little did he know Stephen Hunt was barrelling in at 100mph, blinkers on, to headbutt the ball into the back of the net.

The atmosphere in the away end was next level. Its best shown by the photo at the top of this article as Doyle celebrates the equaliser, I can see 13-year-old me and my dad celebrating, split by the fan in the row above whose somehow been lifted six feet in the air. The final whistle rang around a suddenly empty Reebok Stadium - sending the home fans back down the stairs early being one of the finest and most unique joys of following football on the road.

There was still one Bolton fan looking on in disbelief, as the boxer Amir Khan stood in his executive box near the away end, and received hundreds of playful taunts by joyous visitors singing of a dream European Tour. It was also our first win on their turf since a certain day in 1995, a memory no doubt resonating in the minds of many that day.

For myself, 2006/07 was my first season on the road with Reading and Im sure Ive never beaten the W3 D1 L1 record I witnessed that campaign. With our family connections up north, my mum had come up with us and visited the retail park next door during the game. All that loud cheering, she was worried we had received a battering... until we told her it was the away end going bananas.

It is also timely that the anniversary of that beautiful Lancastrian day lands on an equally lovely day in our very different world. On these football-less times, memories like these remind us why we all cant wait to do it all again.

In a wild twist of fate, Alex left Jo behind in Seattle and reunited with his former love Izzie, and they are living on a farm in Kansas, where they are raising their children.

Given that Heigl was not on the best of terms with Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes when she exited the series, many fans thought a return would be out of the question.

But for current showrunner, Krista Vernoff, she thinks it would not be impossible.

"When I left the show in season 7, people asked me if there was any chance of me ever coming back, and I was smart enough to say, 'Never say never'," she told Deadline. "Here I am, so who knows?"

While it seems unlikely to ever happen, at least fans can take solace in the fact that Alex and Izzie got a happy ending.

It wasn't enough for some fans, but it was a way to say goodbye to the characters amid Justin Chambers' exit from the series.

Grey's Anatomy has a track record of killing off beloved characters, so at least Alex and Izzie are still living.

That means the possibility is always there for them to return in some capacity, but given that all signs are pointing towads Grey's Anatomy Season 17 being the last-ever season, it seems unlikely for now.

Grey's Anatomy recently wrapped its 16th season with four episodes unproduced, but the impromptu finale worked well in bringing the show to a close ... for now.

ABC has already ordered up Grey's Anatomy Season 17, but one star has said he is "confident" it will be the show's last hurrah.

Whether that will be the case, we don't know.

Many businesses work from an office environment, which often means that you will have staff working at various different levels under one roof. As a manager of the operation, or the business owner, you have a duty of care to ensure that you make the right improvements to ensure that staff can do their job, while maintaining a positive environment. Here are some of the things to think about.

One of the first things to think about would be to ensure that the office has the right technology for you to do the job. It can often be the small things such as a working computer, decent internet connection, which are all functional things for your business. You might want to think about having the right sort of systems in place to ensure that your staff and employees can perform their job roles effectively.

A small change that you could make to your business and working environment when you work indoors is to create a quiet room or a breakout area that staff and employees, including yourself, can go to relax and gather your thoughts. This is going to be free from the distractions of work and even their personal lives. Helping them to improve their mindset and have a positive attitude for their work and job role.

You might also want to implement things such as flexible working options for your staff members. That might be working from home or condensing their hours into longer days. An improved working life can help your employees work life to thrive because of a simple change that you made.

There are some businesses out there that only require you to stay at your desk, on your phone or attached to your laptop. Working away through the digital spectrum or speaking to customers, to then sell a product and service and have it shipped out. Job done. But some businesses are a little more physical than that. The working environment may be a bustling yard. Perhaps the business you are in is one of selling houses, for example, or buildings in city centres. Health and safety is going to be of the utmost importance, as not only do you have less control of the surroundings, but you also need to make sure that people are safe. This is because the environment outside of the office might be more dangerous. Such as using different equipment or machinery, for example. Having a decent policy in place can help you ensure that this is covered.

Of course, whether your project is a big one, or something on a smaller scale, you will need to ensure that you have the right level of equipment there ready and waiting. So you need to ensure that you have the right equipment for the job. Whether that is the right sort of crane, fork lift trucks or excavators, ensure that the people you have employed to do a job can do it to the best of their ability because you have supplied the right level of equipment for the job.

As a manager, you need to ensure that there is some form of plan in place to follow. This could be building plans, blueprints that are seen as guides, or even things like meetings so that people know what is expected of them. As a manager, you need to be able to lead. So you may want to ensure that your leadership skills are on point. It could be that you need to be more assertive with things, or ensure that your presence on site is seen and adhered to. Small changes could make a big difference.

It is so important to be prepared for every eventuality when off site and not in the office surroundings. You have less control over outside factors such as the weather. So things like the right level of footwear and clothing should be worn, to ensure safety. It could be things such as foreseeable problems, being discussed and then actions and plans put in place to help overcome them. Be prepared for every eventuality, so that you are never second guessing your next move.

There is some truth to that as mentally you feel dressed for the occasion of work, instead of in some clothes that are comfortable and relaxing to you. Most commonly people who work in an office or customer facing environment would wear a suit and smart attire.

Finally, working from home means you get to decide the dress code. You could work in your pyjamas and nobody would be aware of it. But you have to think about your productivity levels and your mindset when working from home. So it is a good idea to treat the day as if you were heading out to work, that means dressing appropriately. Of course, you dont need to be wearing a shirt and tie, but dressing smarter could help your work rate increase.

You might also want to think about joining up with applications like Skype and Zoom so that video conferencing and communication can be made easier for anyone that is working from home, including yourself. Email acce

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar is not too happy with the way Hasan Ali trained during his recuperation from an injury. There has been a lot of confusion regarding his injury as different players have offered different theories. Former Pakistan bowling coach Azhar Mahmood claimed that it happened when Hasan was made to deadlift 130 to 140 kilograms of weight.

However, Waqar Younis believes Hasan picked up the injury during a first-class match. Akhtar believes it was because the fast bowler did not understand his body and hence, is now looking very weak and frail.

Hasan got injured due to training as well as overwork. Plus, he played a lot of cricket for the past year or two and wasnt managed properly, Akhtar was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan. When I met him 25 days ago, I told him to do light and high repetition training so there is no stiffness and rigidness in his muscle.

He is looking very weak and his shoulders [are] also very thin. He went through wrong training and was asked to lift heavy weights. The learning process of our cricketers is very slow because they do not know the anatomy of their body and how to do high repetition training.

There was a bit mess up from everybody along with Hasan Ali. However, Azhar should have said all this when he was looking after him but I dont understand why he is saying all this now, Akhtar added.

Anatomy of a heatwave – Cosmos

While the world rightfully focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic, the planet is still warming. This summers Antarctic weather, as elsewhere in the world, was unprecedented in the observed record.

Our research, published in Global Change Biology, describes the recent heatwave in Antarctica. Beginning in late spring east of the Antarctic Peninsula, it circumnavigated the continent over the next four months. Some of our team spent the summer in Antarctica observing these temperatures and the effect on natural systems, witnessing the heatwave first-hand.

Antarctica may be isolated from other continents by the Southern Ocean, but has worldwide impacts. It drives the global ocean conveyor belt, a constant system of deep-ocean circulation which transfers oceanic heat around the planet, and its melting ice sheet adds to global sea level rise.

Antarctica represents the simple, extreme end of conditions for life. It can be seen as a canary in the mine, demonstrating patterns of change we can expect to see elsewhere.

Most of Antarctica is ice-covered, but there are small ice-free oases, predominantly on the coast. Collectively 0.44% of the continent, these unique areas are important biodiversity hotspots for penguins and other seabirds, mosses, lichens, lakes, ponds and associated invertebrates.

This summer, Casey Research Station, in the Windmill Islands oasis, experienced its first recorded heatwave. For three days, minimum temperatures exceeded zero and daily maximums were all above 7.5C. On January 24, its highest maximum of 9.2C was recorded, almost 7C above Caseys 30-year mean for the month.

The arrival of warm, moist air during this weather event brought rain to Davis Research Station in the normally frigid, ice-free desert of the Vestfold Hills. The warm conditions triggered extensive meltwater pools and surface streams on local glaciers. These, together with melting snowbanks, contributed to high-flowing rivers and flooding lakes.

By February, most heat was concentrated in the Antarctic Peninsula at the northernmost part of the continent. A new Antarctic maximum temperature of 18.4C was recorded on February 6 at Argentinas Esperanza research station on the Peninsula - almost 1C above the previous record. Three days later this was eclipsed when 20.75C was reported at Brazils Marambio station, on Seymour Island east of the Peninsula.

The pace of warming from global climate change has been generally slower in East Antarctica compared with West Antarctica and the Antarctic Peninsula. This is in part due to the ozone hole, which has occurred in spring over Antarctica since the late 1970s.

The hole has tended to strengthen jet stream winds over the Southern Ocean promoting a generally more positive state of the Southern Annular Mode in summer. This means the Southern Oceans westerly wind belt has tended to stay close to Antarctica at that time of year creating a seasonal shield, reducing the transfer of warm air from the Earths temperate regions to Antarctica.

But during the spring of 2019 a strong warming of the stratosphere over Antarctica significantly reduced the size of the ozone hole. This helped to support a more negative state of the Southern Annular Mode and weakened the shield.

Other factors in late 2019 may have also helped to warm Antarctica. The Indian Ocean Dipole was in a strong positive state due to a late retreat of the Indian monsoon. This meant that water in the western Indian Ocean was warmer than normal. Air rising from this and other warm ocean patches in the Pacific Ocean provided energy sources that altered the path of weather systems and helped to disturb and warm the stratosphere.

Localised flooding appeared to benefit some Vestfold Hills moss banks which were previously very drought-stressed. Prior to the flood event, most mosses were grey and moribund, but one month later many moss shoots were green.

Given the generally cold conditions of Antarctica, the warmth may have benefited the flora (mosses, lichens and two vascular plants), and microbes and invertebrates, but only where liquid water formed. Areas in the Vestfold Hills away from the flooding became more drought-stressed over the summer.

High temperatures may have caused heat stress in some organisms. Antarctic mosses and lichens are often dark in colour, allowing sunlight to be absorbed to create warm microclimates. This is a great strategy when temperatures are just above freezing, but heat stress can occur once 10C is exceeded.

On King George Island, near the Antarctic Peninsula, our measurements showed that in January 2019 moss surface temperatures only exceeded 14C for 3% of the time, but in 2020 this increased fourfold (to 12% of the time).

Based on our experience from previous anomalous hot Antarctic summers, we can expect many biological impacts, positive and negative, in coming years. The most recent event highlights the connectedness of our climate systems: from the surface to the stratosphere, and from the monsoon tropics to the southernmost continent.

Under climate change, extreme events are predicted to increase in frequency and severity, and Antarctica is not immune.
