ABC Sets 2021 Scripted Series Premiere Dates; ‘The Rookie’ & ‘Call Your Mother’ Join Schedule, ‘Grey’s’-Led Thursday Returns In March, ‘Black-ish’…

ABC has firmed up its midseason schedule, setting up early 2021 premiere dates for its scripted series. That includes ABCs returning scripted series and new comedy Call Your Mother, starring Kyra Sedgwick.

Call Your Mother and The Rookie, which were originally on ABCs fall schedule before being pushed, are slated in their previously designated slots, Wednesday 9:30 PM behind The Conners, and Sunday at 10 PM, respectively.

As ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke indicated in May, Black-ish, joined by spinoff Mixed-ish, will be back in the Tuesday 9-10 PM hour starting in January. The Tuesday 8-10 PM block was temporary taken over by The Bachelorette this fall as the summer staples season was delayed by the pandemic. Black-ish, originally left on the bench for midseason, was subsequently summoned back for a fall run on Wednesdays.

On Tuesday, Black-ish and Mixed-ish will follow To Tell the Truth; The Rookie, whose return was delayed because of a later production restart, will again follow American Idol.

ABCs third new scripted series, drama Rebel, headlined by Katey Sagal, was only picked up in September, so it will be scheduled later. It comes from Greys Anatomy and Station 19 showrunner Krista Vernoff.

The two Vernoff-run series, along with Thursday companion A Million Little Things, will be back after a winter break on March 3. This is the latest ever that Greys has kicked off its midseason run, but the ongoing pandemic has been forcing a lot of scheduling changes. The rest of ABCs scripted series will resume airing originals in January, including The Good Doctor, airing behind The Bachelor.

Serving as a bridge on Thursday while the scripted lineup is resting are reality series Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, The Chase and The Hustler.

Drawing a human body is not the easiest thing, and it takes years of practice to get a correct result. There are so many shapes, proportions, muscles, and bones in our bodies that it takes an incredible knowledge of human anatomy to depict them on paper. But there is Wannarit Karin, who is a hit with these breathtaking anatomical drawing lessons.

Wannarit Karin is a Thai artist who founded the ART of Anatomy Academy. The latter has mastered the techniques of anatomical drawing so well that he decided to pass on his knowledge to art students.

In her drawings, Karin highlights the most complex parts of the human body with incredible precision, from tendons and joints to muscle tissue.

Wannarit Karin teaches two courses: the first aims to give students an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and to untangle the parts that are most difficult to depict. The second is titled Drawing the Head and consists of practicing drawing a human face from a doll. Again, you need a good knowledge of the structure of the face, taking into account light and shadow.

90 Day Fianc: The Anatomy of TVs Most Addictive Reality Show – Vanity Fair

The opening moments of 90 Day Fiancs eighth season, which premiered Sunday evening, are a brain-melting series of smash cuts, shock reveals, and, some might argue, assaults to more refined viewing senses. Audiences are introduced to Brandon, a 27-year-old farmer who lives with his parents and never really had a girlfriend growing up. After a few atmospheric cutaway shots showing Brandon tending to sheep in rural Virginia, Brandons unlikely love interest appears: Julia, a brunette go-go dancer from metropolitan Russia. After a slick montage of Julia sliding down a stripper pole, gyrating in a bra, and posing in a thong, Brandon solemnly explains, I fell in love immediately.

In a flashback, we learn that Brandon decided to propose to Julia after five months of dating and only one in-person meetingwhich, in the 90 Day-verse, feels like a reasonable courtship. And now that Julia has been granted her K-1 visa, the couple has 90 days, once Julia lands, to marry, or else Julia will have to return to Russia.

As if that time constraint is not intimidating enough, Julia will also have to acclimate to life on a farm in a foreign country with her fiancs controlling mother who, at the start of the episode, questions Julias motives, and by the end of the episode, will call a doctor to inquire about getting Julia on birth control. Brandon and Julia are just one of seven couples that the roller-coaster eighth season follows.

At a time when most television audiences have seemingly jumped the linear-programming ship in favor of the deep, bingeable-content seas of streaming services, 90 Day Fiancs numbers continue to grow. Since the series was introduced in 2014, TLC has spun the show off into over 10 franchise legsand in the process, has become the years leading cable channel for women, as well as the top television destination on Sunday and Monday nights for adults this summer. This year alone, according to TLC, viewers have consumed a staggering 73 billion minutes of 90 Day and its children. This week, the network announced its new streaming service, Discovery+, will contain four additional spin-offs and more than 200 total hours of bingeable 90 Day content when it debuts January 4the closest TLC can get to injecting its tried-and-true variety of vrit into viewers veins.

The genius of the series, created by Matt Sharp, is that beneath its slick editing are real-life couples who were already struggling to obtain K-1 visas when his production team found them. While reality series like The Bachelor or The Real Housewives ply their stars with wine and manipulate social setups to breed petty drama, 90 Days couples were living out their highest-stakes romantic lives before being cast on the show. By the time TLC turns on its cameras, the couples are usually emotionally drained by the parameters of their long-distance relationships, financially drained by expensive K-1 paperwork, and, in some cases, worn down by critical friends and family members. No priming for drama is necessary.

These people arent just doing this for a television show, Sharp told Vanity Fair. This is their life. They put it on the line for this other person, and this is very real to them.

This seasons returning cast member Tarik Meyers explained that, when he was first cast on the series with his partner Hazel Cagalitan, he had been through such a grueling gauntlet that he didnt have the energy to put on a show for the cameras.

When you have two different embassies breathing down your neck, basically going over your life with a fine-tooth comb, and then the camera crew gets there, its like, Oh, you again? said Meyers.

The 90 Day team said that primarily, theyre looking for cast members who can be totally transparent about their journey.

Were really looking for people to open up and be comfortable letting us in, said Sharp, explaining that his producers aim for each confessional-style interview to feel like youre sitting on the end of the bed with your best friend, and that best friend is really opening up and telling you what the deal is with their relationship.

Added TLC president Howard Lee, A really good cast member can articulate their thoughts powerfully, quickly, directlyand they wear their hearts on their sleeves. They do not hold back. They want to process everything thats on their mind.

Meyersa rapper and single father who describes himself as a cross between Carlton Banks from the Fresh Prince and Ice Cubesaid that he definitely fits that archetype.

With me, what you see is what you get, said Meyers. I just let people see it, good or bad.

Meyers said that he found the process of appearing on the show therapeutic. Until seeing the series, he didnt know of anyone else who flew overseas to date: I thought I was like a unicorn. When he heard about the series, he said, I was like, Really, theyve got a show about crazy people like me? Meyers laughed. I started watching it and I was like, WowI didnt know we had a home.

Brutal, unguarded honesty is critical to the messiness quotient of the series as well. Were not looking to tell a puppies and rainbows story, confirmed Sharp, and were not looking to tell something thats entirely negative. Were just looking to tell an honest story.

Interestingly enough, criminal backgrounds are not enough to disqualify a candidate, as long as that criminal background is neither violent nor boring. Many times we embrace that as part of our storytelling, said Sharp of the franchise, which has cast people charged with second-degree arson, theft and forgery, and felony possession of marijuana. We know everyone has a past, and not everyone is proud of everything theyve done in the past. Sometimes that enriches their story.

While the people of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece definitely look interesting, a few things about their anatomy just leave the fans scratching their heads.

A huge part of any manga/anime series finding huge critical and financial success is its ability to stand out. There's no hiding the fact that the Japanese media industry is a congested market. If any fictional character is going to make it, they have to look like no one else. This concept is a huge part as to why One Piecein particular is a huge success.

The series is able to grab anyone's attention with just a look, and the base anatomy of every citizen speaks volumes about the character of the series itself. However, if one were to actually hold that anatomy with some objectivity, they're bound to find a few inconsistencies.While the people of Eiichiro Oda's worlddefinitely look interesting, a few things about their anatomy just leave the fans scratching their heads.

One of the oddest things with One Piece is seeing some, large characters being called giants and some not. Giants are an actual species within One Piece's world, i.e. an actual race derived from a geographical location and with its own subculture. However, they are often confused with "giant humans," which are regular humans that just happen to be, well, really, really, big.

Characters like Big Mom and whatever Gecko Moria is come to mind. People can be practically as large as pirate ships themselves; yet for some reason, they're not classified or even seen the same way as giants, who, more often than not, are not that much larger than giant humans.

One Piece has this running gag where the crewmates constantly confuse Usopp with other people. This isn't because Usopp himself just has a bland face. He certainly doesn't. It's because, every now and then, they stumble upon another person with a long nose. It doesn't matter if this person is taller, shorter, or has an entirely different body type. If they got that long nose, they are essentially Usopp.

While it is funny in the moment, it is a little strange to see so many people with extended noses. This would include characters like Kaku, Mozu, Kiwi, Foxy, and even Marshall D. Teach brandishing more sniffer than face. If Usopp isn't careful, his main character trait can be taken away.

While fans are still waiting to see if a "long nose people" is a canon thing, they at least have confirmation that there are tribes for other, extended parts of the body. This would include longarm tribe members, such as Scratchmen Apoo and Ideo, longleg tribe members, such as Blue Gilly, Tamago, and Charlotte Smoothie, and even a snakeneck tribe.

If a part of the body is really long, there's bound to be a tribe for it. It is worth noting, however, that there is no, strong confirmation yet if these are actual tribes or if there's just one, mean middle schooler in the World Government just naming races.

One of Nick Jonas first gigs as an executive producer, Dash & Lily is the story of a whirlwind Holiday romance between cynical Dash (Austin Abrams)and optimisticLily (Midori Francis). Its based on the YA book series Dash&Lilys Book of Dares from bestselling authors Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.

Greys Anatomy, ABC, Thursday, 9 p.m.

Between the COVID-19 pandemic and the massive Black Lives Matter protests across the country, Greys Anatomy has plenty to sink its teeth into as it heads into season 17. Tune in Thursday night for the season premiere.

The Crown, Netflix, Sunday

The Crown returns for season 4 this weekend, as two box office characters join the show. This season introduces Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson) and Princess Diana (Emma Corrin) to the fray, further disrupting Queen Elizabeths (Olivia Colman) shaky relationships with her family.

Patrick Dempseys Return to Greys Anatomy Was Extremely Heartfelt and Organic – Us Weekly

An epic homecoming. Patrick Dempseys unexpected return to Greys Anatomy on Thursday, November 12, proved to be a great experience for the cast and crew.

The timing for Patricks return had finally come. He was extremely professional, friendly, funny, and his chemistry with Ellen [Pompeo] was still there, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. The crew enjoyed the time with Patrick, and there was a lot of catching up.

The source added that the Greys Anatomy team are a big family and Patrick may have left it for a bit, but as families do, they come back together. It was extremely heartfelt and organic to watch it all.

The Bridget Joness Baby actor, 54, exited the long-running medical drama in April 2015 after portraying Dr. Derek Shepherd (a.k.a. McDreamy) for nearly 11 years. In his final episode, his character died after a tragic car crash.

This month, Dempseys deceased character returned to the show for its season 17 premiere. During the episodes final moments, Meredith Grey (Pompeo) was found unconscious in a hospital parking lot. When they cut to her thought process in her mind, Meredith was reuniting with her former husband, Derek (Dempsey), on the beach.

After the episode aired, Pompeo, 51, told Deadline that having the reunion occur amid a time of so much darkness was meant to serve as a ray of light for longtime fans. Dempsey, for his part, said that they had a ball filming the special moment.

I think the whole atmosphere has changed, certainly working at the beach, and seeing everybody again was really a very healing process, and really rewarding, and a lot of fun, he explained to the publication on Thursday. And hopefully, that feeling translates, and the fans enjoy it. I know that theyve been wanting us to get back together, and I think this will satisfy a lot of people, and surprise a lot of people, hopefully.

Following his departure in 2015, the Cant Buy Me Love actor spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how his dramatic exit came to be. It just sort of unfolded in a very organic way, he said at the time. I dont remember the date. It was not in the fall. Maybe February or March. It happened very quickly.

Dempsey also noted that being on the acclaimed series impacted his personal life, adding, Its 10 months, 15 hours a day. You never know your schedule, so your kid asks you, What are you doing on Monday? and you go, I dont know, because I dont know my schedule. Doing that for 11 years is challenging. What I would like to do is focus on not being spread so thin. Those days are over!

The vampires in The Vampire Diaries adhere to some elements from vampire lore, but with roots in dark magic, they are their own bloodthirsty fiends.

In literature, film and TV, the vampire has varied in appearance and abilities, although a few key traits remain the same. The vampire must consume human blood to survive, their power is at its peak during the night and a human must consume the blood of a vampire to become one themselves.The Vampire Diaries features some of the time-honored traditions of vampire lore but the show also introduces its own elements to the bloodthirsty fiends.

The rule that vampire blood is necessary to kick-start the transformation from human to bloodsucker has existed for generations of vampire stories, and The Vampire Diaries is no different. To become a vampire, a human must die with a vampire's blood in their system. The matter of the human's death itself is irrelevant -- although the body does have to be somewhat intact. However, humans hoping to become a creature of the night must either consume vampire blood orally or through injection, or have a vampire's blood poured on an open wound.

The Vampire Diariesestablishes early on that in order to complete the transformation from human to vampire, a newly created vampire must consume human blood. Animal blood is not sufficient to sustain the transformation, so new vampires who want to adhere to a strict diet of animal blood are out of luck -- at least initially. A human need not die in the process, and vampires can utilizeunconventional methods to obtain the needed blood, likestealing blood donor bags or feeding from a recently deceased human. Regardless, a newly created vampire only has 24 hours to have their first taste of human blood or they will die permanently.

In theTheVampire Diariesuniverse,all vampires descend from the six Original vampires known as the Mikaelson Family -- Mikael, Finn, Elijah, Kol, Rebekah and Klaus. After the Originals were created in 1001 AD, they fed on human blood and thus created the first bloodlines, through which all vampires are connected. The magical properties of the Originals' blood is passed down through each vampire they sire and the ones their progeny sire, meaning that vampires are all one big family. Unfortunately, due to every vampire's link to the Mikaelsons, if one of the Originals die, their entire bloodline follows suit in less than a hour.

We got the Boston sports Quote of the Year earlier this week on WEEI, and Christian Fauria of OMF is the man responsible for procuring it.

Fauria was Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men, pressing his Colonel Jessup - Belichick -and did he ever get his man on that wall.

As a result, We sold out will forever define the Pandemic Patriots of 2020. A year of excuses? As Jessup would say it, youre Goddamn right it is.

Now, I ran my cinematic comparison past Fauria on Wednesday, and he didnt quite agree with the characterization. I wasnt trying to get some sort of gotcha moment, Fauria said. I did want an honest conversation and I did want to bring up the fact that it sounded like [Belichick] was making excuses, and thats not something you hear from him.

Those excuses Fauria was referencing began during an interview Belichick had with Charlie Weis on Sirius XM radio last week, where Belichick referenced youth, the NFL salary cap, Covid-19 opt-outs, and injuries while discussing his teams rough 2-5 start to the 2020 season.

The Weis interview opened the portal for OMF Monday to press Belichick on his newly found in-season introspection.

It was obvious when he talked to Charlie [Weis] that he was willing to go there, said Fauria. It was on his mind. Because he doesnt do anything unless he wants to. How long have we been interviewing him and how many times have we asked him tough questions and nothing, no information, no explanation? My rabbit ears went up with the Weis interview, and then talking with other people who were listening to it or covering the team for years, they all said the response was odd. It was off script. Different from what were used to. I just felt like it was weird.

But would Belichick give them that information after an agonizing loss to the Bills? That was no extra point.

I didnt think it should go without it at least being said, Fauria explained about his pre-interview thoughts. And I respect Bill like crazy but that was something that was too much in the open. In my head I was like, This really sounds like a bunch of excuses. Is that the case?

Fauria continued: I felt like as a show, we couldnt go into that situation without asking or wed lose credibility. We talked about it beforehand, there were a couple of things we wanted to get in there. We always kind of assume [Belichicks] not going to answer anything. We have a question and a follow-up, always, youve always got to keep one in your back pocket. And then when Glenn [Ordway] got into it.

Ordway indeed started the line of questioning about why Belichick had been so revealing to Weis, but he received a terse response.

It seems pretty obvious to me, Belichick grumbled. Whats the question?

Why are you doing it now? Ordway asked.

I mean its pretty obvious," Belichick said. "It was an honest answer to an honest question. No more, no less than that. Im sure you can read a lot into it if you want to. That wasnt the intent.

To Faurias credit, his follow-up made all the difference.

What it sounds like is a lot of excuses, Fauria declared. Covid excuses, things youve never said before.

And then, after a few awkward seconds, the reveal.

"I didn't say it as an excuse. I never said that," said Belichick. "Look, we paid Cam Newton a million dollars. It's obvious we didn't have any money. It's nobody's fault. That's what we did the last five years. We sold out and won three Super Bowls, played in a fourth, and played in an AFC championship game. This year we have less to work with. It's not an excuse. It's just a fact."

Its the quote of the year because it lets Patriots Nation under the hood for arare glimpse of how Bill really feels. Frustrated, obviously. But also vulnerable for the first time in two decades. Belichick appears to even be reaching out for sympathy, for a mulligan of sorts. He IS concerned about the current state of his team. He knows theres no simple, quick fix. The greatest coach of all time cant do it all himself.

As Fauria reflected back on the Q&A, he felt the same. Bill is human, he makes mistakes. But for me this is something we always addressed as a team, we werent making excuses, we werent going to tell you the reason why, we were just going to be like, Weve got to be better. And then for the past three days, chapter and verse of how things went on? I just thought it was interesting. Its almost like a moral sin, making excuses is kind of taboo. Belichick doesnt make excuses and thats the point.

No excuses until this week, that is. Excuses dressed up as facts. All thanks to Weis ... and to Fauria, whose question elicited 2020s Code Red.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Fan Theory Claims Izzie Never Loved Denny — It Was Always Alex – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

A lot of characters have come and gone in Greys Anatomys17 seasons. But there are some that fans just cant stop talking about. Denny Duquette was only on the show for 23 episodes. His last appearance was in 2009. Even though he left the show for good 10 years ago, fans cant stop talking about Denny. Fans loved Izzie and Dennys relationship. But recently, some wondered if Denny was ever right for Izzie at all.

In Greys Anatomy, Denny Duquette entered the picture as a patient. He had a dangerous heart condition, and he also happened to be rich and hot. All this led to him and Izzie flirting relentlessly, despite his precarious medical predicament. Izzie ended up risking her career to get Denny a heart, but he died after the operation of a stroke.Later, Izzie discovered that Denny had left her a very large sum of money, which she used to start a foundation in his honor.

Even though he wasnt alive on screen for very long, Denny was a very popular character. He was so loved that he was actually brought back as a ghost multiple times. He appeared to Meredith during a near-death experience. Later, when Izzie was suffering from a brain tumor, she hallucinated ghost Denny, and the two even had sex. It was one of the weirder moments onGreys, but the fact that he was brought back multiple times is a testament to how popular Denny really was.

Even though Denny was so well-loved that writers brought him back as a ghost, some Redditors still think he was wrong for Izzie. One fan on Reddit recently made a detailed post explaining why Izzie and Alex were actually meant for each other, and Denny was just a detour.

First of all, the post points out that Izzie and Denny barely knew each other. Aside from the ghost sex, these two only had a few weeks of in-person contact. Plus, Izzie met Denny right after Alex cheated on her. According to fans, this makes Denny a rebound.

A few years after she met Denny, Izzie was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This fan points out that Izzie probably had the tumor when she met Denny, and was not of sound mind. Hence why she risked everything for a guy she barely knew.

Although the post was convincing, many fans still think that Denny and Izzie were meant to be. As one fan wrote, Im a firm believer that Denny was Izzies great love, Izzie was Alexs great love, and Alex was Jos great love. Although most commenters commended the original poster for their hard work, it was hard to convince diehardGreysfans that Izzie and Denny were anything other than soulmates.

Other fans were already on board. As one fan wrote, I agree. Denny was a rush of intense emotions and a temporary thing that felt like love but her true only love was Alex. It is true that Denny and Izzie barely knew each other. In real life, no one would think their relationship was a good idea. But the great thing aboutGreysis it isnt real life. Things are supposed to be extra dramatic. It makes total sense that a prominent doctor would fall in love with a heart patient in a few weeks, and later have sex with his ghost.

Urinary continence (UC) represents the main non-oncological goal in patients undergoing robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). To evaluate the efficacy in early UC achievement, we described a new sling technique using the retrotrigonal muscular layer (TZ sling) combined with total anatomical reconstruction (TAR).

We prospectively enrolled 407 consecutive prostate cancer (PC) patients undergoing RARP between May 2017 and January 2020. The first 250 patients underwent only TAR, while the following 157 patients TAR+TZ sling, by isolating and anchoring the retrotrigonal muscular layer to the pubic bone with 2 bilateral sutures. We defined UC as1 pad/die, which was assessed after catheter removal at 1, 4 and 12wk using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) score. Sling-related operative time and post-operative complications were analyzed.

In the TAR group, the UC rates at the 1, 4 and 12wk were 58%, 66% and 86%; in the TAR+TZ sling group 72%, 76% and 88%, respectively. A statistically significant difference was observed in the two groups at 1wk (p=0.0049) and 4wk (p=0.035) favoring the TZ sling surgical strategy. This difference in UC rates was lost at 12wk (p0.05). No statistically significant differences in operative time, acute urinary retentions and other complication rates were observed between the two groups (p=NS).

We have described a new, safe, feasible modification of RARP using a sling with the retrotrigonal muscular layer associated with TAR. We have demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in early UC rate in patients who are undergoing TAR and TZ sling compared to undergoing only TAR.

Grey’s Anatomy Star Ellen Pompeo on Baby2Baby, the Pandemic and Power of Empathy – WWD

Ellen Pompeo, Greys Anatomy star, actress and producer, spent her Friday afternoon at a charitable Halloween drive-thru with Baby2Baby the Los Angeles-based organization that provides children living in poverty with basic needs.

Its been devastating to watch, Pompeo said of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Its really been interesting to see what a lack of empathy there is out there, considering its one of the most challenging times weve faced as a planetWhy is a lack of empathy something to be celebrated? Why does a lack of empathy make you tough? Caring and having empathy is a sign of strength, not a weakness.

With over 8 million Instagram followers, Pompeo has been using her platform to highlight social causes, movements health equity and Black Lives Matter and the significance of wearing a face mask during the health crisis.

Im super fortunate, she went on, when asked how shes been adapting to the year. I cant complain at all about my life. But I think about younger kids. My 6-year-old couldnt start kindergarten properly this year. The kids who graduated high school couldnt start college this year. The theater actors in New York City, the restaurant workers, the health-care workers, so many people have been really affected by this.

With Baby2Baby, Pompeo has been able to see a local impact of giving back.

Theyre such hard workers, she said of Baby2Baby chief executive officers Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein. Theyre really smart women and know what theyre doing. Theyre really good at it. You see at their events, how successful they are, how many people turn out. You can actually see the work being put to use.

Every year, Baby2Baby raises millions of dollars at an annual gala in L.A. Last year, the nonprofit collected $4.7 million at the event, bringing out the likes of Katy Perry, Kelly Rowland, the late Kobe Bryant with wife Vanessa, Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend. This year the party was canceled due to the pandemic, but that hasnt stopped Patricof and Weinstein from hosting smaller charitable events throughout the year.

They never stop raising money, asking for money, volunteers, continued Pompeo of the women. Its really impressive. Ive seen this organization grow and grow. Their events are consistent. Their giving is consistent, and their work is consistent.

Pompeo, along with other volunteers, handed out school supplies and backpacks along with costumes and candy for Halloween on Friday, thanks to Paul Mitchell a lead sponsor for the organization for the last five years.

They gave a lot of money, over $300,000, to buy all of the supplies, Pompeo said of the professional hair-care company. Without huge donations like that, these events never go on.

Its awkward to go through the logistics of everything, but once they pull up, all of that goes away, said Michaeline DeJoria, vice chairman of John Paul Mitchell Systems and an executive board member of Baby2Baby, of the drive-thru concept. You just look into each others eyes, and youre handing them something, and theyre so grateful. Whether youre in masks, separated by cars, whatever the protocol is, that moment just doesnt change. All the stuff around it looks different, but the vibe was still the same. Its still as heartwarming and humbling as ever.

The mission this year has been accelerated to meet the needs of kids and families, she continued.

Whats so doubly sad about COVID-19 hitting is the essential needs that were there were already so overwhelming, and now to compound that onto COVID-19, a lot of the parents were barely making by, so many have lost jobs or were furloughed, said DeJoria. Early on, we had to pivot toward specific COVID-19 needs like sanitizer. That was really major. And one of the things that was really heartbreaking was a lot of parents, because of loss of income, jobs, access to these basic needs, a lot of them have resorted to making homemade diapers out of newspapers and towels or watering down baby formula. So, those essential needs of food and diapers have really and of course the sanitizers and self-care items like hair care and all that, which we were happy to donate along with the sanitizer the need for that just ramped up so much that the focus really pivoted toward outputting more of those items, especially early on.

Baby2Baby is currently unable to accept physical donations due to the pandemic, but the best way to get involved is monetary donations at baby2baby.org, said Pompeo.

No matter how small [the amount], she said, theyre always grateful, and they put it to good use.

Lets start things off at the moment by getting down to the cold, hard facts: There is no new episode tonight on the network. If you havent heard, the return of season 17 was pushed back until we get to March 11, and we feel like well have more news to share over the next few weeks on the subject.

So what can you expect to see within a new promo for thats next? We think this is an interesting thing to ponder over right now, given what happened with Meredith at the end of the first part of the season. We saw Ellen Pompeos character end up on a ventilator recently, and that is something that we figure to be a big part of the shows return. Any promo for what lies ahead should very well include some footage of her on the beach, potentially talking with either some current or former series regulars.

Beyond just that, were sure that a promo for what lies ahead will emphasize what is going on now with Teddy and Owen, which makes a certain degree of sense given the tumultuous state of their relationship at the moment. Meanwhile, whats going on with Maggie and Winston next? Theres been a TON of passion there, but we cant just sit back and forget that they really dont know each other all that well. Their relationship is still new and more problems could surface.

Katherine Heigl Admits Grey’s Anatomy Exit Could Have Been More Graceful – TooFab

Katherine Heigl is taking a look back at her exit from "Grey's Anatomy."

In an interview with People, the actress -- who starred as Dr. Izzie Stevens on the ABC medical drama from 2005 to 2010 -- admitted she could have handled her departure from the show differently.

"I know there's a better way to deal with those things than I did," said Heigl. "I could have handled it with more grace."

However, the "27 Dresses" star said she doesn't regret her decision to leave the show.

"I did the right thing for me and for my family but I do regret the heightened drama I was feeling at that time," said Heigl, who moved to Utah with her daughter after she exited the series. "If I'd known anything about meditation then, or had been talking to a therapist or someone to help me through some of the fear that I was steeped in, I think I would have been more calm in how I approached what boundaries I needed to create to thrive."

"I certainly regret not learning earlier how to manage my anxiety better," she continued. "Living at that heightened level of anxiety ... created a defensiveness in me and wariness and assuming that people were against me. I let my mind run rampant without the tools to properly manage that."

Publicly it seemed to start when she withdrew her name from Emmy consideration a year after winning the award while on "Greys."

"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination" she said in a statement at the time.

A year later, she complained about her 17-hour work day at the hit medical drama during an interview on "The Late Show with David Letterman."

Despite everything that went down, Heigl said she's ultimately "grateful" for her time on the long-running ABC drama, calling it a "really extraordinary experience."

"[It] taught me is that no matter how big an opportunity or how rewarding something is, there will be moments of struggle," she explained to People. "There will be difficulties and disappointment and miscommunications, but you must learn how to manage those with grace instead of fear."

"When I look back on 'Grey's Anatomy,' so much of it was a really extraordinary experience," she added. "It feels like a dream sometimes, all of us in it together like that. I'm grateful for all of it -- and I'm so grateful that I grew up enough to allow it to teach me something."

When asked if she'd ever consider returning to show -- which has been known to bring back characters -- Heigl told People, "never say never."

Anatomy of a Growing Recall: The People vs. The Governor of California – Jewish Journal

In California, its tricky to predict earthquakes, but it appears a big one is coming, and its threatening to topple Governor Gavin Newsoms political career.

Though usually pretty laid-back, suffering citizens in the Golden State are translating their upset at state mismanagement during theCOVID-19 pandemicinto a rapidly growing recall movement that is poised to shake thepolitical landscape of our nations most populous state.

Californias recent surge into the epicenter of coronavirus deaths follows months of hospital overcrowding, a poorly executed testing system, sharply rising unemployment, insurance fraud at taxpayer expense and an excruciatingly slow rollout of vaccinations for desperate health care workers and the vulnerable elderly.

For months, citizens have been treated to inconsistent andincomprehensible top-down rules from Sacramento banning religious services (while liquor stores remain open) but allowing lines at grocery stores (while outside restaurant dining and even beaches and parks have been opened and closed and opened again).

Families are reeling from economic devastation, and many children aresufferingdeclining educational results and mental health crises.Millions are out of work and facedwindling savings, with a looming cut-off of workers compensation insurance.

As residents approach the one-year anniversary of the pandemic in the state with the strictest stay-at-home lockdowns,parents, students, workers and shopkeepers from everyethnicity, social class and walk of life aregrappling with the immense pain of lost lives, jobs, family savings, and schoolsemesters. And they aremoving from annoyance to distrust to contempt for a governing class that appears both incompetent and deeply elitist. In my priorpiecefor the Journal, I detailed that the states policies and unaffordability have even been driving a wave of emigration.

While Governor Newsomisnt solely responsible for the high cost of living and declining quality of life in California, he seems to epitomize the do-as-I-say-not-as-I-dotone-deaf attitude that irks the citizenry. The problem with his now-infamous fancy dinner party at French Laundry in November 2020 isnt just the casual hypocrisy of swanky indoor dining without wearing a mask; it is hiscontroversialchumminess with hispay-to-playinsider lobbyist hosts.

As the Governor, the buck stops with Newsom, and he is likely to pay the price as the public finally catches on to the fatal flaw of contemporary statism elected leadership is far more responsive to special interests than to the people.

For most of American history, political organizing of public employeeunionswas illegal,and good government advocates have consistently cautionedagainstunions capturing elected officials.

Unions raise funds from mandatory membership dues and then contribute large election campaign contributions.In return, they expect favorable legislation and massive budget allocations for their members salaries, benefits and pensions.

For example, thestate provideshealth insurance to active government employees. But unlike most employers,the State also provides health insurance to retired employees and their dependents, even when the retiree or dependent has another job that offers insurance, is covered by Medicare or is entitled to premium support from the Affordable Care Act or the California State Premium through Covered California, which provides the highest levels of premium support in the country.

The total amount of taxpayer liabilities for state employee salaries, health care benefits and pensions runs in the tens of billions of dollars annually and includes story after story of outrageous sums of monies paid out to even young retirees, many of whom are double-dipping with outside salaries after their well-paid government service.

The power of the unions can be quite fearsome. Recently, against the wishes ofmany parents,students and teachers, the California Teachers Association (CTA) stubbornlyfoughtto prevent opening up of schools,though studies have repeatedlyshown(and private schools that are open confirm) that young children have low risks of vulnerability to the COVID-19 virus and are unlikely to pass it along to teachers.

The CTA has come to dominate not just the politics of public education in the state, but has sponsored statewide taxincreasesas it asserts its muscle in California politics. The education establishment also pushes a radical ideological agenda, such as thecampaign for a statewide K-12 EthnicStudies Curriculum that has been welldocumentedas concerning to the Jewish community. In Cupertino, third-graders are being forced to deconstruct their racial identities and rank themselves according to their power and privilege. And in San Francisco, the school board is seeking torename44 schools, (out of 125 district schools), including those named after George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Paul Revere and even Diane Feinstein.

As Californians consider both the power of special interests and the rise of woke politics, all roads seem to lead to the dominance of San Franciscos Democrats instatewide politics.

The nations most populous state includes the fertile Central Valley, the populous Inland Empire, the majestic mountain interior and the vast northern third of the state, but the state has long been dominated economically, politically and culturally, by the two power centers of the San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California (centered in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties).

In 1970, Los Angeles and San Francisco were roughly co-equal in economic output. The Southern California economy featured light manufacturing, including many defense contractors, which supported American efforts in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars and the Cold War. San Francisco was a financial center rapidly developing a strong network of venture capitalists and academic centers. But at the end of the twentieth century, it was the north that began to benefit from the information technology era that created high wage jobs.

Culture was mostly produced, once upon a time, in Hollywood. Founded by Republicans who promoted the American dream (including Louis B. Mayer, who was Chairman of theCalifornia Republican Party), the entertainment industry provided such GOP political leaders as George Murphy, Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, Sonny Bono, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Since the 1960s, of course, the entertainment industry has moved sharply to the left, counting many studio heads and wealthy movie stars among the major donors to the Democratic party.

In the twenty-first century, as Silicon Valleys big tech companies, like Google and Facebook, became the wealthiest enterprises in the world, Californias political figures with roots in the Bay Area grew to statewide and even national prominence.Prolific as fundraisers, this class of Bay Area politicians has included:

The Recall Governor Gavin Newsomeffortbegan in the summer of 2020 as a politicallong shot. As of January 6, 2021,the Secretary of States office had verified some 410,000 signaturesless than one-third of the amount needed to trigger a recall vote. Officials rejected about 15% of the signatures that the campaign had turned in for verification.

However, asteadily growing volunteer signature gathering effort has now developed into a real citizens movement, with some 5,000 peopledeployedevery weekend to gather signatures.Though limited by COVID-19 lockdowns and stay-at-home restrictions, the forgotten men and women of California an ethnically diverse group of parents and workers, homeowners and renters, from big cities and small towns alike are rising up to make California dream again.

The recall effort is now also increasinglysupported by donors and professional signature-gathering firms as it seeks to meet the March 17, 2021deadline forsubmission of signatures.Over 1.3 million signedpetitions have now been submitted, with tens of thousands more arriving daily. 200,000 signatures have been received via a direct mail effort, and over 1,000,000 signatures have now been gathered by volunteers.

Signatures are gathered in one of three ways: individuals can print, sign and mail it into the campaign themselves; the campaign can send out petitions in mailers that voters return to them; or citizens can sign at petition-gathering tables set up at shopping mall parking lots throughout the state.

One must be registered to vote in California to sign the petition, and the recall campaign vets signatures for accuracy and duplicates before sending them off to a third party for yet another screening. Completed signature petitions are then sent to volunteers in each county who take them to county election officials for verification. The counties then report their results to the state.Counties will have until April 29 to verify the signatures, after which the Secretary of States Office has 10 days to determine if there are enough to qualify the recall for the ballot. California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis must then call a recall election between 60 and 80 days from the date of certification, meaning likely in July or August.

Governor Newsoms response to the recall may consider several factors.

Although 19states permit recall elections for governors and other state officials,only two state governors have ever been recalled. The first was in North Dakota, which kicked out Gov. Lynn Frazier in 1921. Most recently, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker fended off a recall attempt in 2012.

The second was in California, where every governor elected since 1966 has been targeted by recall attempts, but only Governor Gray Davis was dismissed, in 2003.

Manycitizens angered at Sacramento have already fled the state and the millions who remain are lopsidedly liberal. Some 75% of registered voters in the state of California are Democrat or decline-to-state.

Voter registration statewide has the GOP at less than 25%, now in third place, behind both registered Democrats and Independents.

The last time a Republican won a statewide U.S. Senate seat in California was in 1988 (Pete Wilson). The current U.S. House delegation from California is 41 Democrats, 11 Republicans.

All current statewide elected constitutional officers are Democrats, and the state legislature in Sacramento features a supermajority in the State Senate (30 of 40 Senators are Democrats) and in the State Assembly (60 of 80 Assemblymembers are Democrats).

Californias statewide political media coverage is rather limited these days, with most television stations and many newspapers barely covering state politics. And there are very few outlets that are not favorably disposed to the Democrats. Some op-eds havedenigratedthe chances of recalland other stories havesmeared the entire recall movement as the handiwork of thefar-right.

But those paying attention topopulist movements from the Tax Revolt to the Tea Party to the Trump rallies on the right to Occupy Wall Street, the massive anti-Trump rallies and the BLM protest movement on the left recognize that disgruntled citizens across traditional party lines are rising up to challenge insiders, elites and what theyconsider to be corrupt swamp creatures.

Newsoms best chance to avoid a recall, of course, would be a sharp rebound in the California economy and the mood of the voters.

Perhaps some personal humility might help, too. So far, that hasnt been the approach taken by the California Democratic Party, whose formal, initial response was tocallthe recall effort acoupandtreasonous.

This seems badly out of sync with awidely agitated electorate. Even hard-nosed Democratic strategist Gary South,who advised former Governor Gray Davis when he lost the 2003 recall, said this response to the recall effort was bad messaging.That was a misfire in a lot of ways, South said. Its not a coup. This is a valid process under the California Constitution.

In recent days, some Democrats have finally beenchallengingGovernor Newsoms lack of communication about the health science behind his decision-making.Democrats may also begin to re-think the same assumptions they had about Gray Davis not being recalled in 2003. In that election, Democrats belatedly put forth then Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante as their candidate to succeed Davis should he be recalled. He lost soundly to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Although there may be no celebrity candidate like the Terminator on the 2021 ballot, several interesting candidates are mulling bids to replace Newsom, including the 2018 GOP gubernatorial candidateJohn Cox,San Diegos recent MayorKevin Faulconerand billionaire tech investorChamath Palihapitiya. Activists are also rumored to be drafting conservative radio talk show host LarryElder, which may excite school choice advocates in minority communities.

Talk about a grassroots revolution: Hell hath no fury like the parents ofsuffering children.

Dont hold back. Katherine Heigl finally weighed in on a shocking Greys Anatomy twist that saw Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and her character, Izzie Stevens, reunited in season 16.

The Firefly Lane star, 42, told Entertainment Tonight she hasnt watched the episode, which aired in March 2020, but had some thoughts on her onscreen beaus behavior.

Wasnt he with someone? she said in the Wednesday, January 27 interview, referencing Alexs wife Jo (Camilla Luddington). Listen, isnt that an ahole move?

Alex and Izzies reunion on the show served as the end of Chambers story line. During the episode, viewers learned that the doctor left Seattle and reunited with his old love interest. Alex and Izzie were raising twin daughters on a horse farm in Kansas information he revealed to Jo and longtime friend Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) in a series of letters.

Viewers were taken aback by the plot point, but not entirely disappointed. Do I think this reunion makes sense? No. Do I care? Fk no. I got my Alex and Izzie endgame! one fan tweeted at the time. Another wrote, They killed all my other ships I will take this win idc idc idc Jo who? Alex and Izzie was my forever ship.

As for potentially returning to Greys Anatomy herself, Heigl isnt ready to write it off however unlikely it may be. Im super focused on this show and my passion for it, the Knocked Up star told ET. I would never say never but its not likely.

Heigl left Greys Anatomy in 2010 during season 6 of the show 10 seasons before Chambers surprised viewers by announcing his own exit. The actress left the show on a contentious note, after a public falling out with showrunner Shonda Rhimes. After being nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2007 for her performance on the show, Heigl withdrew her name.

She said at the time, I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention.

Speaking with Howard Stern after the fact in 2016, the Washington, D.C., native revealed that she later apologized to Rhimes, 51, for her comments, noting that she was really embarrassed. The producer later named Heigl in a 2010 interview with The Hollywood Reporter about difficult actors to work with on set.

There are no Heigls in this situation, she said at the time, adding that she adopted a no aholes policy on set.

Katherine Heigl has opened up on being labelled difficult.

Actress Katherine Heigl has opened up on her struggle with being publicly shamed and bullied over the fallout from her criticism of hit TV show Greys Anatomy.

Heigl starred in the medical drama from 2005 until 2010, but gained a reputation as difficult to work with after making public complaints about her role in that and in the Judd Apatow film Knocked Up.

In 2008, she gave an interview describing Knocked Up as a little sexist and later said she hadnt entered herself for the Emmys for Greys Anatomy that year as I did not feel I was given the material this season to warrant a nomination.

Although Heigl later apologised to Apatow and Greys Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, clarifying her comments were about her own performances, she said the throwaway remarks had had a huge effect on her personally.

She told The Telegraph: It was this giant snowball effect. The more conscious of it I was, the more afraid I was, and the more I would say something stupid. It was this vicious cycle.

It was a public shaming. Even a little public bullying. And I took it really, really personally.

It had me confused about my own worth because I put all my value in other peoples opinions and suddenly those opinions changed.

Saying that she felt afraid about peoples opinions of her, she explained that it made her react in a negative way but that she felt her attitude had changed in recent years.

After the controversy in 2008, Heigl said she began to worry about saying things that would offend people in every interview.

The actress said that she now felt less insecure and wasnt so concerned about saying the wrong thing, adding if somebody chose to take it that way, thats on them.

The Anatomy of an African Wild Dog Hunt

Narrator: In an African wilderness like Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park, each animal faces a fundamental taskday in, day outfinding something to eat.

Herbivores have an additional challenge: they must also avoid being eaten.

As for carnivores, to survive, they must kill. And to kill, they must hunt.

Paola Bouley: There's some dance that happens between those two groups of species. One doesn't want to be eaten, the other needs to eat. So, they each fulfill a unique niche in the ecology of the system.

Narrator: Two top carnivore species roam the forests and floodplains of Gorongosa: African wild dogs and lions. Each has their own particular style of hunting, and their own unique effect on the prey species around them.

Bouley: A lion is an ambush predator and our lions in Gorongosa tend to hang out in the tall grass and they almost literally wait for something to walk into their mouths. Theyre not out running on the flood plains chasing down prey. They dont have to spend that energy. Theres a stray waterbuck or a warthog thats just walking through the grass and all of a sudden, a lion is there. And it takes a split second for a lion to take it down.

Narrator: Prey are so plentiful in Gorongosa, lion rarely roam from their favorite grasslands, limiting their impact on the ecosystem.

Wide-ranging wild dogs provide an essential contrast.

Bouley: Compared to an ambush predator like a lion, a wild dog is a coursing predator. And that means that it chases down its prey. Its not sitting, lying in wait for something to walk up to its area. Its going to chase down what it wants to consume.

Narrator: Weighing less than eighty pounds, African wild dogs are built for speed and endurance. Their long, thin legs can carry them over a mile during a hunt and propel them at speeds approaching 40 miles an hour.

Bouley: Now, a lion is going to think twice about running after something, especially if they can just pick it out of the grass. But dogs are not stealthy in that sense. Theyre gregarious. Theyre playing together. Theyre noisy. Animals see them coming from far. Theyre not stealthy at all. So, they have to rely on the chasing.

Chasing, clearing, very different strategy to a lion.

Narrator: And there's much more to that strategy than simply out-running prey. The pack's meals emerge from an extraordinary routine.

Bouley: A typical day for the dogs right now is they tend to rest during the heat of the day but in the early mornings and late afternoons they begin to play, socialize more together and they hunt.

Antnio "Tonecas" Paulo: (Translated from Portuguese) About thirty minutes before the hunt, they start playing, and you can see at that stage that they start to lower their heads and prick up their ears a bit and they make a calling sound between them.

Bouley: So, we're looking at some of the best wild dog habit here. It's a wide-open expanse, really flat, hard substrateand they'll course through here.

They start moving across the landscape and then fractions of the pack break off and begin to select prey. Those dogs out in front who want to start hunting are out there already sussing everyone out.

Here we go.

Here in Gorongosa, we have palm thickets, and termite mounds and little patches of forest. Animals like a bushbuck or an oribi would be hunkered in the shade and what we have is a pack of dogs and a wave of teeth that are just sweeping through the landscape, sifting animals out of their refuges, and looking for that one weak moment.

Narrator: Once a victim is flushed out, the wild dogs kick into high gear.

Paulo: (Translated from Portuguese) They chase their prey at a very high speed. When this wave arrives, the prey has little chance to survive the attack.

Bouley: The beauty of a pack is that they function as a whole. Everybody needs to do well together. The sum is greater than the parts with a wild dog pack.

There's no fighting at kills. There's no outward aggression like you'll see with the lion. Everybody gets to eat, nothing is wasted. So, vultures will hang around, but there's very little scraps to be taken. They consume everything.

So, theyre having an impact on how animals are distributing themselves because herbivores understand: thats a predator. They are fulfilling a unique role as a coursing predator in this system. And thats a good thing.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Why Camilla Luddington Originally Thought Her Role on the Show Was Not ‘Meant to Be’ – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Greys Anatomy star Camilla Luddington is now in her 9th season as the fan-favorite Dr. Jo Karev, and shes still going strong. Theres a possible romance blossoming between Jo and Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), and Luddington promises that her character has a big revelation this season about her career. But, she also admits that she originally thought her role on Greys wasnt meant to be.

Luddington says that after eight seasons on Greys Anatomy, one of her favorite things about working on the show is that the actors dont know everything about their characters.

Its really exciting playing a character that every season you learn something new about. I didnt know that she was married before and I didnt know that she was in an abusive relationship; I didnt even know that she was homeless until, I think, episode 8, maybe, of my first season, Luddington told Backstage.

She explained that she feels like shes constantly learning new and exciting things about her character. Luddington says that when you sit with a character for this long, you get to be on a journey of growth with them. Not only does she get to experience Jos heartbreak and pain, but also her happiness, her wins, and her losses.

Luddington notes that the experience is really amazing. She also admitted that she was surprised by Jos big career revelation in season 17. And, shes really excited to play it.

The actress says that she came close to losing out on the role of Jo, but she turned things around rather quickly. Luddington recalled that she was at San Diego Comic-Con in 2012 because of her gig as the voice of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.

She remembers it was a Friday, and her agent told her, Its such a shame because Shonda [Rhimes] really wants you to audition for a new intern class for Greys Anatomy.

Luddington noted that all of the auditions were on that Friday when she was in San Diego, and she just thought to herself, OK, well, its not meant to be. But the next day, she found out that Rhimes didnt find what she wanted during the Friday audition. As a result, she was bringing five girls in on Monday.

And so I was doing Comic-Con and quickly learning my doctor dialogue, Luddington recalls. And then went in on the Monday, heard on Wednesday that I had it, and then I started work on the Friday.

After Jos tumultuous season 16, fans were looking forward to seeing the direction the character would take this season. In the premiere, they got a huge shock when Jo asked Jackson for a sex favor, even though the two had never even flirted in the past. Luddington admits that when she read the script, she couldnt stop laughing.

Honestly, Jesse and I, we get along really well. We laugh a lot together anyway. But we dont necessarily work together a lot, and for a long time now, Ive been asking to work together. So, when these scenes hit, we thought it was hysterical. I was excited to film it, because I also loved that Jo was putting herself out there, Luddington told Good Housekeeping.

She also looked back at the controversial breakup between Jo and Alex Karev, which was the result of Justin Chambers real-life exit from Greys Anatomy. Alex left Jo for his ex-wife Izzie Stevens, and Luddington is okay with that.

She says that was the only way that Alex would leave Jo, and it really couldnt have happened any other way. Luddington says that in order for them to break up, it made sense. However, she admits it was really shocking.

Ultimately, Luddington wants what is best for her character. If that means a romance with Jackson, thats great. But, she believes that all Jo is looking for at the moment is comfort and friendship.

New episodes of Greys Anatomy air Thursday nights on ABC.
