Gas streams from reactors such as gasifiers often have a need to #39;scrub out #39; undesirable gas-phase components from the primary product gases. For a gasifier #39;s syngas this is always sulfur. These animations show several views and cross-sections from a commercial cleanup system, specifically the regenerator component. Two incoming particle streams enter the regenerator #39;s riser where the sulfur is burned-off of the sorbent by combustion with air, #39;regenerating it #39;. The two streams have differing amounts of sulfur on the particles and are also at different temperatures; the reactions are exothermic and highly temperature dependent. Therefore, the Barracuda® chemistry model that treats reactions on each individual discrete-particle was required to correctly quantify the #39;hot spots #39; so as not to degrade the sorbent.
