Whereas yesterday we toured the more modern neighborhood of Miraflores today we went to El Centro to see Plaza San Martin Plaza de Armas San Francisco and several other notable landmarks like the weirdest Chinatown EVER...seriously. The Plaza San Martin had an incredible statue of you guessed
Friday Costa Brava
Friday was sunny and gorgeous. Perfect weather for checking out Spain's Costa Brava the wild coast. After our delicious breakfast in a cozy setting at our hotel we drove down to Sa Tuna and parked. We tried to walk to Aiguafrada. I'm not sure if we got there or not. But every beach is gorgeous and there is walkway built between them. Around noon we went back to our hotel and up to the ca

Week Three
June 7 2009 June 13 2009I have quite a few photos that I never put up from Spain. These are from my third week in Spain and I didn't get out much apparently. I walked out a bit and took these photos from the area around the school. I wasn't ready to explore too much at this point so there's not a whole lot here.
More easy living…
Hola friends and family. The easy living continues. Still doing a good amount of lounging at Nick and Dawn's and getting prepared for a couple trips around Costa Rica. Visited Volcano Irazu 11500 feet above sea level and walked in the crater. The volcano is no longer active so you can go into the area where lava used to spew. We could see above the clouds at the top of the volcano like

Week Four
June 14 2009 June 20 2009This week I decided to be adventurous and try my hand at the Valencia tram system. Using my tram map I hopped from line to line and figured out my way to the History of Valencia museum. Okay I make that sound simple but there were a few times that I got confused. Once I got to the benimaclet stop I had to take the underground tram. When I came back up I was b

Week Five
June 21 2009 June 27 2009This is the week that I moved out of the dorm and into an apartment with a girl from the Netherlands. It was a nice apartment except that the door to the apartment was tricky and hard to open. My roommate Inge said that on her first day there she was stuck outside for like an hour. Luckily when I showed up she was there to open the door for me. Anyway I though

Northern California Adventure
A friend and I decided to spend a couple of days in San Francisco and Napa Valley. The time before I flew to San Francisco in 1977 for a job interview so I didn't get to do much sight seeing. We landed in San Francisco the cool air felt good. We took a stretch limo to our hotel. We lucked out and stayed at a Hyatt hotel downtown. We left Austin in the middle of a hot Texas summer July 1995. I
Grrranada Grrranadaaaa
After a hectic first weekend we finally get to do some proper exploring and enjoy our surroundings for a couple of days. The small colonial town of Granada on the northern shore of the gigantic lake Nicaragua would be our first taste of central america. Week Six last week
June 28 2009 July 04 2009I went to a bullfight with Michel Patricia Michel's friend Paul and girlfriend whose name I've forgotten. I was near tears when the first bull was killed but after the third it somehow seemed completely normal. Desensitization in action There were six and it was gruesome but there really is some artistry in the way that the matador moves. The guy in the g
Chapter 40 Travels with Cali
October 20Cali and I woke up early and saw some heavy dark clouds coming over the mountains. I was concerned because I had two more passes to cross before getting on down the mountains to Durango. Molas Pass and Coal Bank Pass are both over 10000 feet in elevation. You know the saying that God watches over fools and drunks. Well he certainly watched over this fool who was traveling late i
