The Land of the Bicycle
When I think of the Netherlands NL I think of tall skinny buildings and canals. There certainly is a lot of each but what struck me the most is the bicycles. They are everywhere. There are more people on bikes in Amsterdam than in cars. The sidewalks are all quite wide with a slightly different surface on half. That is for bikes. If a bike lane isn't part of the sidewalk there is one on th

Some Korean Humour
Hi everyone Today has been one of those days here when I could do without people talking about me in Korean without telling me what they are saying or the constant stares from passerbys. In Korea you quickly learn that the word for 'foreigner' is WAYGUK and it can often be heard no matter where you are. From kids form adults anyone Sometimes it gets to me and other times it doesn't but I seri
Kamp GLOW BILD in Salua
4 May 2010Wersquore all jazzed up about our recent trip to visit Sandy and Justine in central Maewo. The four of us also joined with six volunteers from other islands a grand total of ten volunteers. It was a good thing there were so many of us as we were helping Sandy and Justine put on a four day Kamp GLOW BILD for the youth in their area. These camps address issues like leadership comm
Moving South
We left Paris for Avignon on Sunday. TRAVEL TIP Don't buy your TGV tickets with American Express cards. When we got to Gare Lyon we went to an automated kiosk to print out our etickets because we booked a couple months ago tickets are much pricier if you buy in Paris but soon found that the kiosks cannot process tickets purchased by American Express. We had to stand in a slowmoving lin

After a surprisingly quick 11hour flight to Hong Kong spent watching Avatar and sleeping we arrived in Hong Kong airport. First impressions driving to through the city in our taxi were that it looked really clean and also very green. Lots more trees and shrubbery in these really well kept gardens everywhere. The huge skyscraper apartment buildings are set against a backdrop of mountains so its p

Ad Hello hello Sadly we have reached the end of our journey arriving last night in Redding CA. The weather here is gorgeous and we are excited to visit with our friends Nancy and Don. I just want to take a minute to thank everyone who made our trip special and helped us along the way. In this day and age people tend to keep their heads down and not help others. Well in our little trek a
Chengde My Kingdom for a Temple
Chengde My Kingdom for a TempleChengde is the old summer retreat for the Qing Emperors. Up in the hills 200km northeast of Beijing it is noticeably cooler than the capital and was an excellent base for hunting forays. It was also an excellent location for international conferences amongst the finelysuited politicians of Chinarsquos past.Royal Gardens The city was therefore built to impress
Batiking in Bali
Ubud in Bali is a center for the arts. Many of the artists and artisans are happy to have you visit them in their studios and a number of them also hold classes. One of these is the batik artist I Nyoman Suradnya. His Nirvana Batik studio is by happy coincidence located on Jalan Gautama. Gautama being the name of the Buddha. He runs classes that range from one to five days in length and even
Mui Ne and Nha Trang
So I got to Mui Ne Monday night feeling much better but decided to take it easy. I stayed at the Wind Champ hotel. It is Korean Owned but I wasn't really impressed by it. It was a typical spot fair on the cleanliness AC bed mosquito net and luke warm water for the shower. I didn't have a shower curtain and no way to put the shower head up so I could take a standing shower with my hands free
