In recent weeks two Classic Rockers from 1960's/early '70s bands have been identified with Right-leaning affiliations.
First, a Libertarian Party candidate for State Senate in southern California, a semi-pro classic rock guitarist himself, received an interesting endorsement for his race:
"Adrian Galysh is an inspiring candidate. His ideas and principles will help return prosperity to California. I proudly support him." - Paul Marshall, former member, Strawberry Alarm Clock.
Secondly, out of Georgia, the longtime drummer for the Pre-Punk New York band from the late 1960s Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground was recently discovered to be a Tea Partyer.
From the Daily Caller "'Moe' Tucker is a Tea Partier":
Even Velvet Underground rocker Maureen “Moe” Tucker is partying with the Tea Partiers down in Georgia.
A clip of Tucker giving an interview to a local television station as an everyday Tea Party activist has gone viral as fans have realized the woman is the former drummer for the 1960s band.
“I’m furious about the way we’re being led towards socialism,” Tucker said during that interview in April. “I’m furious about the incredible waste of money when things that we really need and are important get dropped because there’s no money left.”

Hawai‘i’s business climate has improved in recent years, but still struggles due to many factors, including one of the highest tax burdens in the nation, the high cost of doing business, government-created delays, unnecessary regulatory barriers, and the need for a well-educated, trained workforce that can compete in the global economy.
As Governor, Duke Aiona will accelerate private sector investment to create more jobs by improving transparency and certainty in government permitting and approvals.
Duke Aiona will propose a tax credit equal to the amount of withholdings taxes paid by each new employee hired by a firm located in Hawai‘i.
He will work to reduce the amount of unemployment insurance taxes businesses must pay.
Note - Aiona's running mate Lynn Finnegan is a 4-term Republican state legislator.
Republican candidate Bill Hudak has been called an extremist for his Tea Party/libertarian-leaning views: Abolish Dept. of Education, Flat tax, eliminate the Death Tax, questioning Obama's background and legitimacy as President. Polls have shown him behind by the low double-digits in this northern Mass district. But an unexpected late election year scandal has erupted in the Bay State.
Less than a month away from the Nov. 2 election, Patrice Tierney's guilty plea yesterday to four counts of aiding and abetting the filing of false federal tax returns has emboldened Republican Bill Hudak's underdog candidacy and put U.S. Rep. John Tierney's political future in jeopardy.
The congressman strongly denied any involvement in the transgressions to which his wife pleaded guilty.
"I'm sure my opponent would like to run against my wife's family, but he's not going to have that luxury," Tierney said in a phone interview yesterday after his wife's court appearance.
The Chair of the Massachusetts GOP Jennifer Nassour has commented:
"Voters are going to have a hard time believing his wife was managing $7 million, and he never noticed or asked any questions. After the federal indictments of three consecutive House speakers and a state senator, the voters of Massachusetts are sick and tired of entrenched politicians who think the rules don't apply to them and that they owe no explanation to the voters for their actions."
Note - this is one of two potential GOP pick-ups in Mass. The other is Jeff Perry against Democrat William Dellahunt in the 5th CD (southeast Coast).
Comes out forcefully against any Sharia Law within U.S. borders
At a local forum in the town of Mesquite, Nevada, Republican candidate for Senate Sharron Angle was asked by a questioner about the rising threat within the United States of radical Islam.
Her response from Google News (via AP) "Angle: Muslim law taking hold in parts of US" Oct. 7:
"My thoughts are these, first of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas are on American soil, and under constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don't know how that happened in the United States," she said. "It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States."
Responding to the same question, she also drew comparisons between the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the Nazi Holocaust. She said the property owners behind the proposed Islamic community center near ground zero should move it in deference to the people who died there.
Last night, we received an interesting email from Bev Perlson, who heads the Band of Mothers group. She's got an awesome email list that is good for keeping up on what's going on around the country.
What was so disturbing was the email listed someone we all know- LTC(r) Allen West, and how the VFW, of all people, THE VEE-EFF-FRICKING-W, was ENDORSING HIS OPPONENT.
You read that right.
His opponent? Democrat Ron Klein. WHO HAS NEVER SERVED IN UNIFORM.
You read THAT right, too.
People, I've been pissed before. Mad, even. Upset. But this? THIS is treasonous to me. For a 'so called' veterans organization to pick a NON-SERVING, NON-VETERAN over one of the MOST PROMISING veterans running in politics is heinous. Disturbing. And shows just how far off-track the VFW has become.
I am a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served numerous tours in the Persian Gulf in the early 1980s at the height of the Iran/Iraq War.
If this report proves fully true, I will have no problem resigning my membership, as I'm sure tens of thousands of other patriotic Vets around the Nation will promptly do the same.
Time for an alternative Veterans group that's truly patriotic and supports Vets first!
The Democrat Senate firewall is now crumbling in 3 out of 4 seats: West Virginia, Illinois, and now Washington State. The GOP only needs to win one of these three to reach the magic 50.
In Election Year 2010 this one may go down as the one the Republican Party almost let slip away. Kristi Noem, a libertarian-leaning Tea Party Republican held a solid lead for months, over incumbent Democrat Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin. Then the Democrats ran a series of well-prodcued ads, which put Herseth-Sandlin back in the lead. This is one seat they really dumped a lot of funds into and hoped to retain.
Driving record problem overcome
Additionally a small scandal arose over the summer regarding Noem's driving record. We reported here at LR back in August "SD Republican for Congress Kristi Noem, a libertarian on speed limits and seat belt laws":
Keloland.com is reporting that libertarian-leaning Republican Kristi Noem has a bit of a lead foot and doesn't particularly care for seat belt laws:
KELOLAND News checked the records for all five candidates for U.S. House and Governor; Noem has the longest list of violations, including 20 speeding tickets, three stop sign violations, two seat belt violations, and no driver's license. Noem also has six court notices for failure to appear and two arrest warrants.
Republican Kristi Noem has edged back into the lead over incumbent Democrat Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin in South Dakota’s U.S. House race.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in South Dakota finds Noem with 47% support, while Herseth-Sandlin earns 44% of the vote. Six percent (6%) like another candidate in the race, and three percent (3%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
It remains a very close race. Noem fell slightly behind Herseth-Sandlin last month 47% to 45% for the first time since winning the Republican Primary in early June.
WASHINGTON – In response to the recent Republican “Pledge to America,” Libertarian Party executive director Wes Benedict released the following statement: Instead of a “Pledge to America,” the Republicans should have written an “Apology to America.” It should have gone something like this: “We’re sorry, America. I would like to see our legislature take a comprehensive look at overhauling Indiana’s election laws. Over many years, the Republican and Democrat parties alike have added layer to layer of election law making deciphering this code impossible for election officials, candidates and voters. At every turn, our legislature continues to create confusing deadlines. Forms [...]

In distilling the range of issues down to three keys ones, Jason Sipe has focused his race for Indiana House in District 92 on three reforms: education, taxation, and elections. While these may sound fairly common place at first blush, the proposals are bold ones, including a statewide version of the Fair Tax to replace [...]
