For more info, visit http://www.bioradiations.com Learn how scientists in the Gene Regulation Laboratory at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) use the ChemiDoc MP imaging system in their work investigating the molecular machinery involved in epigenetic gene regulation. Prof. Ji-Joon Song studies chromatin structure and function and its relation to cellular identity, cell-cell interactions, and gene regulation in disease processes such as cancer. Bio-Rad imaging systems expand the toolkit available researchers in his laboratory, with intuitive operation requiring little or no user training. The ChemiDoc MP system enables stain-free imaging with superior sensitivity, exceptional image quality, and outstanding versatility. Prof. Song lists the virtues of the ChemiDoc MP system: ease of use, simple and rapid protein quantification, sensitivity comparable to traditional radiolabeling and X-ray film, and the ability to monitor chromatin modifications in real time using three-color visualization. The ChemiDoc MP system is a tool that allows his group to integrate results from structural biology, biochemistry, and cell biology to answer interesting research questions. Rna Modification
ll4.me Rna Modification The presence of modified nucleotides in cellular RNAs has been known for decades and over 100 distinct RNA modifications have been characterized to date. While the exact role of many of these modifications is still unclear, many are highly conserved across evolution and most contribute to the overall fitness of the organism. In recent years, new methods and bioinformatics approaches have been developed for the dissection of modification pathways and functions. These methods intersect a number of related fields, ranging from RNA processing to comparative genomics and systems biology. In addition, many of the techniques described in this volume have broad applicability, particularly in regards to the isolation, characterization, and reconstitution of ribonucleoprotein complexes, expanding the experimental repertoire available to all RNA researchers. American Heart Association reports telltale visible signs of aging may predict heart disease – Video

American Heart Association reports telltale visible signs of aging may predict heart disease
If you look old, your heart may feel old, according to research presented at the American Heart Association #39;s Scientific Sessions 2012. In a new study, those who had three to four aging signs mdash; receding hairline at the temples, baldness at the head #39;s crown, earlobe crease, or yellow fatty deposits around the eyelid (xanthelasmata) mdash; had a 57 percent increased risk for heart attack and a 39 percent increased risk for heart disease. "The visible signs of aging reflect physiologic or biological age, not chronological age, and are independent of chronological age," said Anne Tybjaerg-Hansen, MD, the study #39;s senior author and professor of clinical biochemistry at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Researchers analyzed 10885 participants 40 years and older (45 percent women) in the Copenhagen Heart Study. Of these, 7537 had frontoparietal baldness (receding hairline at the temples), 3938 had crown top baldness, 3405 had earlobe crease, and 678 had fatty deposits around the eye. In 35 years of follow-up, 3401 participants developed heart disease and 1708 had a heart attack.From:mastercreator1000Views:0 0ratingsTime:01:24More inScience Technology

The Toxicology Of Carbon Nanotubes – Video

The Toxicology Of Carbon Nanotubes
ll4.me The Toxicology Of Carbon Nanotubes The widespread and increasing use of carbon nanotubes in scientific and engineering research and their incorporation into manufactured goods has urged an assessment of the risks and hazards associated with exposure to them. The field of nanotoxicology studies the toxicology of nanoparticles such as carbon nanotubes and has become a major growth area aimed towards risk assessment of nanoparticles. Compiled by a team of leading experts at the forefront of research, this is the first book dedicated to the toxicology of carbon nanotubes. It provides state-of-the-science information on how and why they are so potentially dangerous if breathed in, including their similarities to asbestos. The book examines various aspects of carbon nanotubes, from their manufacture and aerodynamic behaviour to their effects at molecular level in the lungs. It is invaluable to the many groups involved with research in this area, as well as to regulators and risk assessors.
