Mark is now 22 years old and just had his 4 year anniversary of his diagnosis; he was diagnosed at the age of 18 on October 9, 2007 with stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma. He went through 6 months of ABVD Chemo and when chemo was completed, he had 5 weeks of radiation. He is doing absolutely great and is living a very healthy lifestyle. He #39;s a senior at UCSD where he #39;s majoring in Astro Physics and helping to run the Rock Climbing gym on campus. He spends all of his free time climbing with his girlfriend Lauren and on occasion, he #39;ll take his little sister Venessa with him. Venessa is 14 and Mark is her hero; she loves climbing with him. This past summer he climbed the face of Half Dome in Yosemite; he started his climb at dawn and finished it at dusk...that #39;s fast! He is also a surfer and cyclist and just genuinely loves the outdoors. In 2008 the state of WI changed their laws and allowed 16 year olds to donate blood. David signed up immediately. It was from that blood drive that he discovered he had MDS, a rare form of bone marrow cancer and his only treatment option was to have a life threatening bone marrow transplant. Out of 11 million people on the bone marrow registry not a single one was a match. His dad and sister were not matches, and his mom Mary was only a partial match. They decided to use Mary as the donor anyway -- she was his only shot. Her to-do list before the surgeries included her yearly mammogram. It was then she discovered she had breast cancer. Live modular synth and Waldorf MicroWaveXT. The still photos are some astrophotography I did with a Takahashi TOA150, Sbig STL11000 CCD camera, Astro Physics 900GTO mount on a Paramount pier in Maxim DL software. The pictures are of the Coat Hanger cluster, Veil Nebula, M33 galaxy and the Rho Ophiuchi nebulae region. The music includes modules from many different MU and 5U vendors but features a re-constructed Cat Girl Synth Dual Analog Shift Register that I added twelve voltage trimmers to the output buffers in order to fine tune the voltage outs.This led to tuning stability which is not common with the typical CGS design. There are both quantized and un-quantized ASR oscillators heard within the piece. TED-Ed video by John Lloyd. youtu.be I #39;ve posted this video response. In his talk, John Lloyd advocates feeling wonder about their being mystery in the universe. I felt a response was necessary because he makes no distinction between what a mystery to him (because he hasn #39;t taken the time to look), and what #39;s a mystery to humankind (because it #39;s an unsolved problem of science.) This isn #39;t a problem until it becomes clear that he #39;s chosen NOT to learn about these mysteries, as advocates mistrust of anyone who says they do understand. It #39;s harsh, I know, but have a look at the video; I think you #39;ll be convinced. I too advocate for awe in looking at the universe, but I argue that it should be through knowledge, understanding, and taking the time to figure stuff out for oneself. There is wonder to be found in delving deep into understanding how natural law permeates everything. A few good primers on this topic are both written by Richard Dawkins.
