Anatomy of Romney's Disputed Auto Ad

President Obama's and Mitt Romney's campaigns have two dramatically different readings of a heavily disputed ad airing in the battleground state of Ohio that suggests auto companies General Motors and Chrysler are planning to ship jobs overseas.

A closer look at the history behind the ad, and Romney's similar statements on the campaign trail, show how a fairly routine business story became the dominant political football in the final days of the campaign, as both candidates stake their claim to Ohio with the president guarding a slight lead in the polls.

"Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy, and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China," the Romney ad says. "Mitt Romney will fight for every American job."

Romney also said on the campaign trail in Ohio on Oct. 25 that he had learned from a news story that day that Jeep "is thinking of moving all production to China."

The ad started running a few days later on Oct. 28.

Chrysler has vehemently denied the ad's suggestion that adding Jeep production facilities in China will cost U.S. jobs. The company's CEO said this week that any such statement would be "inaccurate." GM has also flatly denied the Romney campaign's claims in a new radio ad airing in Ohio that suggested the company is shipping jobs to China.

Romney campaign officials stand behind the ad, which they say is accurate and only suggests that if jobs are being created in China, they are not being created in the United States.

What the ad claims and what it implies might be two separate issues, but Romney's aides initially claimed that the GOP challenger's Oct. 25 comments about Jeep in Defiance, Iowa were based on an early version of a Bloomberg News article that first reported on Chrysler's plans for production in China.

The article, written by a Michigan-based industry reporter Oct. 22, said the company would be "adding Jeep production sites," not shifting them to China. Chrysler itself called the piece "clear and accurate."

And a representative for Bloomberg told ABC News that the article was updated on the same day it was published with background information, days before Romney's Jeep claims made an appearance on the trail.

The winner of this year's University of Otago award for top lecturer says teaching an interesting subject and having motivated students are behind his success.

Anatomy lecturer Prof Mark Stringer was among 10 staff vying for the Otago University Students' Association (OUSA) title of the university's top teacher, after being nominated by their students.

Among the accolades from students who nominated Prof Stringer were that he made "everything seem easy" and had a "wicked sense of humour".

After receiving the award at a ceremony this week, he said that when he heard the comments from his students read out he did not believe they could be talking about him.

"I didn't think they were describing me, I thought it was clearly someone else," Prof Stringer said.

He credited his success to anatomy being an stimulating subject and to his having motivated students.

"I love my subject ... anatomy is the coolest subject, there is nothing more important or fascinating in my book than the human body, but also it's such a joy to teach medical students because they are so motivated and they are such an inspirational group."

For the third year running, senior lecturer Dr Gill Rutherford picked up the inclusive award, which recognises "excellence in inclusive teaching and a commitment to understanding disability as a human rights issue".

The other staff awarded for their teaching were Tony Zaharic, Dr Tony Schneiders, Paul Pearce, Dr Nicola Atwool, Haruko Stuart, Flavia Rubini-Lean, David Bishop, Dr Constantin Grigorut and Suzanne Duncan.

On this trip I visited some stunningly beautiful beaches and lively big cities ... but for me the highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the 4-5 days spent in the far north of Thailand near the border crossing with Laos in the countryside outside Nong Khai, spending some #39;quiet #39; time with my friend and her extended family in a small village. It has some nice old temples to see/visit ... and it also has a very large modern shopping centre with lots of interesting things to do! Here I find a Yamaha Piano Showroom which let me and my friend have a practise {well, that #39;s what I was doing, lol?!} ... before we head down to the 4th Floor of the shopping centre to one of the Karaoke Bars that are popular in this part of the world. Warning : thanks partly to a few Leo Beers at lunchtime ... and a general feeling of happiness and contentment ... I decided to have a go at singing something in Thai!
