Digital publisher releases Cyborg 009/Skull Man creator's series about man with telekinetic powers

The Finnish digital manga distributor Amimaru announced on Tuesday that it has launched the first chapter of Shotaro Ishinomori's Mutant Sabu manga in English via its Facebook app.

The company describes the manga as follows:

Eventually, Sabu starts finding other people with powers similar to his. However, he also finds himself to be of great interest to mad scientists, government spies and powerful corporations, which gets him involved in one strange case after another.

Ishinomori originally published the manga in Kobunsha's Shjo magazine in 1961. Amimaru's version of the manga is based on Kadokawa Shoten's 2007 three-volume reprint.

Amimaru is offering an eight-page preview of the manga's first chapter, and the entire chapter is available for 10 Facebook credits. Amimaru will add new chapters weekly. Amimaru launched its app in May and is currently also publishing Yoshino Koyoka's Yami Kyun!, Daisuke Tazawa and Tarahi Rakuji's The Tale of Lwe, and Shuho Sato's Give My Regards to Black Jack (Say Hello to Black Jack), as well as the Gentle Kisses on Your Body boys-love anthology manga.

The digital comics platform Comixology has licensed Ishinomori's entire catalog from Ishimori Productions. However, Comixology has not yet added Mutant Sabu.

Eight Devon beaches have failed the most basic tests for bathing waters, according to a new report.

Bantham, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Instow Mothecombe, Plymouth Hoe East, Plymouth Hoe West and Shaldon failed mandatory compliance under European rules, the Environment Agency said.

The agency said "exceptionally heavy rainfall" resulted in more pollution.

However, Combe Martin and Ilfracombe Wildersmouth beaches which previously failed tests had passed.

South West agency director Richard Cresswell said: "During intense rainfall, pollution from farmland, roads, and drains was washed into water courses that finally end up in the sea.

"Water companies also operate combined sewage overflows to prevent sewage from backing up and flooding people's homes."

The Health Protection Agency said local authorities had to ensure there were prominent signs on any designated bathing beaches to inform the public.

It said such signs would contain safety messages and information about bathing, and visitors should observe any advice they gave.
