No. 3 Baylor women beat Liberty 92-60

WACO, Texas (AP) -- The only complaint Baylor coach Kim Mulkey had was how the final few minutes of the game went when Brittney Griner and the rest of the starters sitting on the bench.

Kimetria Hayden scored 12 of her 18 points in the first 5 1/2 minutes and the third-ranked Lady Bears cruised to a 92-60 victory against turnover-prone Liberty on Friday night.

But the 50-point lead they had with 8 1/2 minutes left got significantly sliced when Mulkey played her reserves and several talented youngsters.

''There wasn't any concern. There was more aggravation,'' Mulkey said. ''What you're aggravated about is the people on the floor didn't get it done. ... The last 7 minutes of the game, they pressed us and we didn't handle it very well. Yeah, there were freshmen on the floor for the most part, and what I call bench players that come in for our starters. We didn't handle it.''

Hayden, a senior guard, scored the game's first seven points, and the Lady Bears (5-1) led by 20 in less than 7 1/2 minutes on way to their 43rd consecutive win at home.

Liberty (2-3) had more turnovers than points at halftime, when the Lady Bears had a 53-18 lead. The Lady Flames' 21 turnovers in the first half led to 27 of Baylor's points.

The Lady Bears had five steals in the first half that led to breakaway layups, two of them by Hayden in the first 5 minutes.

Brooklyn Pope had 13 points for the Lady Bears, while two-time All-American center Brittney Griner had 11 points and four rebounds - giving her 999 in her career - while playing only 20 minutes. Jordan Madden had 10 points.

Preseason AP All-America point guard Odyssey Sims sat out her third consecutive game since sustaining a strained hamstring a week earlier in the Lady Bears' 71-69 loss to Stanford, which replaced Baylor at No. 1 this week.

Devon Brown had 20 points to lead Liberty, which had a 15-point loss at Texas A&M on its Thanksgiving trip through the Lone Star State.

Liberty Bottleworks wins 2013 American Made Outdoor Gear Award

ARCATA, Calif., Nov. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Liberty Bottleworks (http://www.libertybottleworks.com) today was named the overall winner of the first-annual 2013 American Made Outdoor Gear Award.

Conceptualized and hosted by Kokatat Inc., (www.kokatat.com) leading US manufacturer of technical apparel and gear for paddle sports, the 2013 American Made Outdoor Gear Award was open to all American manufacturers with a compelling story.

Liberty Bottleworks began producing its American made, BPA-free, recycled aluminum water bottles in 2010 at a purpose-built factory in Yakima, Wash. From the outset, Liberty has been committed to making its products in America by American workers.

"Liberty stood out among the so many great stories we received," said Jeff Turner of Kokatat, the founder and host of the American Made Outdoor Gear Award. "Not only do they make a product in a highly competitive space that is dominated by imports, but they do so in a factory where the machines were also built in the US."

More than 50 of the most innovative domestic manufacturers in the outdoor market entered the first-annual "Sassy" award program a long overdue chance to raise a glass to the leaders in American made quality, craftsmanship and creativity in the outdoor world.

As winners of the American Made Outdoor Gear Award Liberty Bottleworks will take one-year ownership of the "Sassy" travelling trophy -- a hand carved, 3-foot-tall, redwood Sasquatch from Humboldt County, CA. An official "Sassy" presentation will be made on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, UT.

"We are humbled to be recognized with the first Sassy and very proud to represent American manufacturing," said Liberty Co-Founder Ryan Clark. "We make the best bottle out there, but it's really about remaking our country's economy and proving that American-made products can compete in every aspect of the market. We're thrilled to win this award, and we'll be just as thrilled to pass it on to another manufacturer next year that's as passionate about this movement as we are."

Kokatat's hosting of the awards is rooted in their own history, as the brand's founder and president, Steve O'Meara, recognized from the start that keeping production local was necessary in order to control quality and continually develop the finest and driest paddling apparel in the world.

"It's amazing to me that the reasons I began Kokatat and have kept our production in the U.S. are shared by so many of the Sassy applicants," O'Meara said. "Their commitment and successes will ensure a stronger America and keep manufacturing from becoming a myth like our friend Sassy."

The 2013 American Made Outdoor Gear Award harvested a variety of intriguing data regarding US manufacturing and sourcing. A sample of statistics from entries include: 80% of applicants own their own facility; 74% of applicants created new manufacturing jobs in the last year totaling over 500 new jobs; and more than 60% of the applicants reported that 90% or more of all the goods they sell are made in the US.

Parties making stakes in Collin County: Growth trends open doors to Democrats, Libertarians

Kelsey Kruzich / Staff Photo Political signs at Collin College Spring Creek campus reflected support not only for Republican and Democratic candidates, but for Libertarian ones as well. The third party received .79 straight ticket votes in Collin County on Tuesday, a number party members see as a sign of progress.

Bryan McAnich has been chair of the Libertarian Party of Collin County since 2010, and said he noticed an increase in membership over the past several years, the most the party has experienced since it began roughly 10 years ago.

With 750 members and counting, McAnich said the partys platform has been well-received among local community colleges and among voters within the 24-36 age bracket.

A lot of people tend to agree that a lot of people are getting a little suspicious of having Republicans and Democrats in office for so long. We have all of these problems and only two different people to blame, he said. I think people are beginning to start to question this political duality, especially among the younger crowd.

With urban areas traditionally known for reflecting a larger Democratic presence and rural suburbia carrying a more conservative stance, Collin County is unique because the urban sprawl that has accompanied the population boom brings the potential for political shift with it, McAnich said.

And that, he said, gives the Libertarian Party a bit more room on the playing field.

I think its going to bring a little bit more socially tolerant viewpoints, he said. Republicans typically are very fiscally conservative but also socially conservative. When you bring some of the big city Democrats into the suburbs it may bring more socially tolerant viewpoints along with it.

Since campaign financing for Libertarian frontrunners pales in comparison to the pockets of their red and blue counterparts, social media has been an important tool for gaining support, McAnich said. With no central office, Collin County Libertarians typically lease out rooms at local colleges or hold gatherings at public venues. Even though limited resources are a struggle with any third party, it hasnt prevented the Libertarian Party to continue the momentum it has been slowly gaining since its founding in 1972, McAnich said.

Being a third party is always a challenge. Democrats and Republicans have kind of colluded and created very high hurdles for third parties to clear in order to get into debates and things like that, he said. Both really do have something to lose, [however], because Libertarianism takes the best from both worlds. I think both parties are a little intimidated by the fact that we might come in and take a few of their votes away.

Noting their new and slightly more polished presidential candidate than theyve had in the past, McAnich said the Libertarian Party has evolved in terms of politicking, something that will help them in the coming elections, both in terms of following and financing.

Calling Russ Belville Out – The I-502 Challenge and comparing activists to Nazi War Criminals – Video

Calling Russ Belville Out - The I-502 Challenge and comparing activists to Nazi War Criminals
Russ started out on November 2nd 2012 comparing many activists as Nazi War criminals. Then goes on to challenge people to a challenge in which he demands that activists be labeled with a virtual Star of David in order to make sure that people remember they voted against the prohibition in I-502. He reminds everyone that he will not forget those who voted in a way that he didn #39;t approve of. I challenged Russ to a $500 wager (of which the proceeds go to charity). If legal dispensaries open in 2013, I donate $500 to Russ #39;s non-profit of choice. If they do not open (as I have long predicted) Russ donates $500 to the Libertarian Party. I show how Russ is a hypocrite by not calling out the ACLU for openly campaigning against I-1068 and I-1149. But he is relentless in persecuting other activists, treating them like competition or something. I just wonder if the ACLU paid for "advertising" through Russ #39;s show some how? Why is he such a sell out if not? Why persecute cannabis consumers, and yet defend the lawyers that wrote this new prohibition? My guess is that there is more to this story than meets the eye.From:xcannabiscomViews:97 3ratingsTime:30:48More inNews Politics
