Palestine UN vote reaction: US call resolution #39;counterproductive #39;
After the UN formally recognises a sovereign state of Palestine, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticises the decision as leaders from the region react. An historic resolution that enhanced the Palestinians #39; position at the UN from "permanent observer" to "non-member observer state", a status also held by the Vatican, passed the General Assembly by a resounding 138 votes to 9, with 41 countries abstaining, including Britain. Five nations did not register a vote. The no votes were US, Israel, Canada, Czech Republic, Palau, Panama, Nauru, Mirconesia and Marshall Islands. The United States and Israel immediately condemned the vote, which US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called "counterproductive." The Palestinian Authority #39;s Foreign Minister, Riyad al-Maliki, said that his administration #39;s decision whether to report Israel to the International Criminal Court, one of the international agencies to which the new non-member state now has access, lies in their hands. "I hope that they will understand that the formula has changed, the reality has changed and we are not really threatening right now to go immediately to anywhere," said Mr al-Maliki. NZ soldiers withdraw from Solomons

New Zealand soldiers are withdrawing from the Solomon Islands after nearly a decade of peacekeeping in the once unsettled and lawless country.

In 2003, after nearly three years of general lawlessness within the country, the local government asked New Zealand, Australian and Pacific Island nations for help and the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) was formed.

On Friday afternoon the 16th - and what will likely be the last - New Zealand RAMSI platoon, which consists of about 40 mainly Christchurch-based soldiers, will return home from the capital, Honiara.

Surrounded by palm trees at the RAMSI base on the outskirts of the city, the New Zealand soldiers performed a rousing haka to crowds during a farewell ceremony on Thursday. Much has changed in the Solomon Islands since RAMSI was established.

Soon after arriving in the country RAMSI personnel, as well as the Royal Solomon Island Police (RSIPF), seized thousands of illegal weapons and a number of militants were detained. Initially law and order was restored, but tensions rose again after the general election in 2006.

People took to the streets in Honiara, smashing shops and setting fire to Chinatown amidst allegations of corruption and claims the election was fixed with money from the Chinese. Christchurch-based Sergeant Major John Spence arrived in Honiara when the city was still burning.

His role, along with other RAMSI soldiers, was to patrol an area of the city to enforce a city-wide curfew.

"Tensions were very high. Lawlessness, insecurity - these are words that come to mind," he said.

Six years on the Solomon Islands is a peaceful and safe place, he says. RAMSI has three core aims - to assist with economic development, offer military assistance and restore Solomon Islanders' confidence in the local police force.

The military component of RAMSI is set to wind down in July next year with platoons from Australia and Papua New Guinea remaining at the Honiara army base until then.

Kiwi troops due home from Solomon Islands today

Nearly 10 years of peace-keeping in the Solomon Islands end today, with the last of the Kiwi troops coming home today.

The 16th rotation to serve in the small Pacific country flies into Christchurch this afternoon, after a four month deployment.

Brigadier Mark Wheeler from the New Zealand Army says its absolutely the right time for New Zealand to withdraw.

"The military side's not required. We can now fade out. We're really comfortable that we've done our job in allowing police, particularly the Solomon Islands' police, to take the credit for how stable this place is.

"There are law and order issues here. There may be riots and those things but they're really one off events, they come and go and I would hope we don't have to come back on a permanent basis."

One of the few Kiwi troops being left behind in the Solomon Islands is preparing to say goodbye to his mates.

Eight Kiwi personnel will remain, including Corporal Riwi Thomas.

He says its tough to see his friends head home and hopes he can see his own family soon.

"To my darling wife and my children I miss them very very much. I wish they were here with me to see what I'm seeing, but I think of them everyday and are close to my heart at all times, and my guinea pig and dog."

Corporal Thomas says it's tough being left behind.

Hauraki Gulf islands celebrate being pest-free

The worlds first detection dog for Argentine ants will feature at an event to celebrate the first anniversary of a biosecurity accreditation system for ferries and other commercial vessels visiting pest-free islands in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.

Tonight (Thursday 29 November), Auckland Council and the Department of Conservation (DOC) will celebrate the first year of their Pest-free Warrant scheme.

The scheme involves DOC and the council working with ferry and tourism operators, and other companies running vessels or carrying out contracts, on pest-free islands in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park such as Rangitoto, Motutapu and Rakino. Its designed to ensure they dont carry pests such as rats, mice and Argentine ants to the islands.

DOC has removed rats, stoats, possums and other pests from Rangitoto and Motutapu, making them safe havens for endangered wildlife such as kiwi, takahe, tieke (saddleback) and tuatara. Rakino Island, which is managed by Auckland Council, has been pest-free since 2002, and is home to native bird species such as the bellbird and kakariki.

"Pest-free islands such as Motutapu, Rangitoto and Rakino are great for conservation and theyre great for tourism," says DOC Auckland area manager, Jonathan Miles.

"They enable us to grow the populations of threatened wildlife like Coromandel brown kiwi and takahe. And theyre close to downtown Auckland so Aucklanders and tourists can visit these islands and enjoy this unique wildlife."

"The Pest-free Warrant scheme is a key part of the Treasure Islands biosecurity programme run by Auckland Council and DOC that enables us to keep the Hauraki islands free of pests," says Jonathan.

The inspection process looks at how well biosecurity measures are applied by the commercial vessel operators and contractors visiting the pest-free islands.

"Were pleased with their response. Weve had ferry companies such as Fullers, Sealink and 360 qualify for a Pest-free Warrant. Thats as well as operators with smaller vessels and contractors working on the pest-free islands," says Auckland Council biosecurity manager, Jack Craw.

"This is a great system to have in place as it ensures the industry has good practices in place. The accreditation process doubles as an education for their staff, which they pass on to others.

Human genetic variation recent, varies among populations

ScienceDaily (Nov. 28, 2012) Nearly three-quarters of mutations in genes that code for proteins -- the workhorses of the cell -- occurred within the past 5,000 to 10,000 years, fairly recently in evolutionary terms, said a national consortium of genomic and genetic experts, including those at Baylor College of Medicine.

"One of the most interesting points is that Europeans have more new deleterious (potentially disease-causing) mutations than Africans," said Dr. Suzanne Leal, professor of molecular and human genetics at BCM and an author of the report. She is also director of the BCM Center for Statistical Genetics. "Having so many of these new variants can be partially explained by the population explosion in the European population. However, variation that occur in genes that are involved in Mendelian traits and in those that affect genes essential to the proper functioning of the cell tend to be much older." (A Mendelian trait is controlled by a single gene. Mutations in that gene can have devastating effects.)

How events affected genome

The amount variation or mutation identified in protein-coding genes (the exome) in this study is very different from what would have been seen 5,000 years ago, said Leal and her colleagues in the report that appears online in the journal Nature. The report shows that "recent" events have a potent effect on the human genome.

Eighty-six percent of the genetic variation or mutations that are expected to be harmful arose in European-Americans in the last five thousand years, said the researchers.

The researchers used established bioinformatics techniques to calculate the age of more than a million changes in single base pairs (the A-T, C-G of the genetic code) that are part of the exome or protein-coding portion of the genomes (human genetic blueprint) of 6,515 people of both European-American and African-American decent. The research was an offshoot of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute Exome Sequencing Project.

Human population increase

"The recent dramatic increase in human population size, resulting in a deluge of rare functionally important variation, has important implications for understanding and predicting current and future patterns of human disease and evolution," wrote the authors in their report.

Others institutions that took part in this research include the University of Washington, Seattle; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

Funding for the research came from the GO (Grand Opportunity) Exome Sequencing Project (NHLBI grants RC2 HL-103010 (Heart GO), RC2 HL-102923 (Lung GO) and RC2 HL-102924 (WHISP). The exome sequencing was supported by NHLBI grants RC2HL-102925 (Broad GO) and RC2 HL-102926 (Seattle GO).

Here is a little story on how I got involved with this mom and the home business she discovered and led me and countless others to succeeding for the first time in an easy and fun home business. My story begins: It started several months ago when I realized I hate working for someone else:) and what I use to do was always try and justify by getting a new job (maybe i will like this one?) in different areas like health care manager, health club manager, business owner of a company with labor involved (hate hard labor) and that drove me crazy, real estate investor, and countless other businesses that made me money but drove me insane by sucking up all my time. But I drew the last straw while sitting at my desk while working at a health club and said "That #39;s it! No More! Not another minute or day will I let pass by without living the way I want to live" so my anger and desperation pushed me to take action and like a crazed maniac on the financial hunt I began researching on google and youtube and went thru countless videos and blogs and by LUCK found a mom who was having success from her home with a simple and low cost home business. Lose Fat In Your Face? Here Are 9 Tips You Can Use – Video

Lose Fat In Your Face? Here Are 9 Tips You Can Use
Link Here rarr; tiny.cc RECOMMENDED =) How can you lose fat in your face? Though it #39;s not possible to target only the face, here are 9 tips I hope that you can use for a fat face appearance. It is obvious that the first part of the body others will notice is the face. The face is also the first part of the body to show a change in weight. Most of the rest of the body is covered, and therefore not so "in your face". Does that mean you are destined to have a fat face forever? Let #39;s talk about it: Here are the 9 Tips for helping you with a "fat face": 1. A fat face is often the result of water retention. A bloated appearance of the face can be relieved to some extent by reducing salt intake. Hide the salt shaker and limit high sodium foods such as canned soups, soy sauce, most restaurant foods, ham, and pre-packaged, ready-to-eat meals. 2. Cut back on alcohol consumption. Drinking too much may be the whole cause of the facial bloating. 3. Reduce your intake of refined sugar (found in beverages sweetened with sugar, candy, pastries, and other foods). Read the label. 4. Check with your health care provider to make sure you don #39;t have underlying kidney, liver, or heart disease. While you #39;re there, ask him or her to take a look at your over-the-counter and prescription drugs to determine whether those with side effects of fluid retention could be exchanged or eliminated. 5. If your face is chubbier than you would like, you might take a look at your genes as well. Do you look just ...From:WeightLossTheMessiahViews:3 0ratingsTime:03:16More inHowto Style
