Cytomedix Announces Landmark Bright Cell Therapy Study in Peripheral Arterial Disease
GAITHERSBURG, MD--(Marketwire - Dec 6, 2012) - Cytomedix, Inc. ( OTCQX : CMXI ) (the "Company"), a regenerative therapies company commercializing and developing innovative platelet and adult stem cell technologies, announced today the signing of an agreement with NIH to collaborate on a Phase 2 clinical study in patients with intermittent claudication (IC).IC is caused by peripheral arterial disease (PAD), a condition causing reduced flow of blood and oxygen to muscles of the leg. The study is being funded by NHLBI/NIH and managed by the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network (CCTRN), which is also responsible for enrolling patients. The CCTRN is a network that includes seven centers in the United States with experience and expertise in stem cell clinical trials studying treatments for cardiovascular heart diseases.
The Phase 2 PACE (Patients with Intermittent Claudication Injected with ALDH Bright Cells) study is an 80 patient, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial intended to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of ALD-301 (Bright Cells) in patients diagnosed with IC.The primary endpoints of the study are safety and the change in peak walking time at 6 months compared to baseline.Additionally, changes in leg collateral arterial anatomy, calf muscle blood flow, and tissue perfusion as determined by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will be examined. These novel MRI techniques are incorporated into the study to assess perfusion, providing a unique set of data potentially supporting the angiogenic mechanism of Bright Cells.The clinical study has received Investigational New Drug approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is expected to begin enrollment in Q1 2013 upon the Investigational Review Board approvals from the participating centers.

PAD is a major unmet medical need affecting approximately 8 to 10 million patients in the U.S. IC is a significant subset of the PAD population and is characterized by pain in the lower legs while in motion that resolves upon rest.Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is the advanced form of PAD, and is associated with poor clinical outcomes and increased morbidity.An important goal of medical intervention is to attempt to prevent the progression of patients from IC to CLI.This clinical studybuilds on the strong data showing increased blood flow and improved clinical status from Cytomedix's previous Phase 1/2 study of ALD-301 in CLI published last year ("A Randomized, Controlled Study of Autologous Therapy with Bone Marrow-Derived Aldehyde Dehydrogenase Bright Cells in Patients with Critical Limb Ischemia" Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions 2011).In the PACE study, ALD-301 will be delivered in the same manner, via direct, intramuscular injection in a grid pattern of the affected lower limb.Cytomedix will be responsible for manufacturing ALD-301 for the clinical trial and will have certain rights todata generated during the trial.

Missing Mayan Codex Surfaces to be Unveiled to the World in Chicago December 10th
CHICAGO, Dec. 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With parts of the world gridlocked with the fear of an impending "doomsday" on December 21st, 2012, a previously unknown Mayan Codex is brought to light by the family entrusted to safeguard it since the 1700's. To date only four codices of the thousands of codices originally created by the Mayan civilization have been authenticated to the time period. Although the codex has not been translated, a handful of preeminent scholars preliminary analysis reveals time after the December 21st date, and the piece carries significant importance as to content of the writings and its relationship to the Mayan calendar.
The team of researchers and specialists on the project is lead by Jerry J. Ferrara of Global Quest TV, who is often referred to as a real life "Indiana Jones." Ferrara, who serves as custodian to the Codex's owners ancient texts and artifact collection, has never seen anything quite like this piece. Ferrera was recently featured in a National Geographic special for his role in the groundbreaking "Bahia Emerald" story.
"I love what I do for a living. The Bahia Emerald was quite a discovery and project to be part of, but it is in a completely different category than the unknown codex. I have spent quite a bit of time with the family's collection and every scholar we have had look at the piece over the last year is in awe," commented Jerry J. Ferrara.
With only three Mayan Codices garnering complete acceptance by scholars and scientist (Dresden, Madrid, and Paris and the fourth, but not completely accepted Grollier), this particular codex has significant importance due to the time period it is from. Leading forensic researcher Roderick McNeil's original analysis dated the codex to 1540 AD (+/- 70 years) which places it towards the end of the Mayan civilization. The initial analysis methods gave only a 1 in 10,000 chance that the piece came from a period outside of that margin. The codex is also referenced to speak of both spiritual enlightenment as well as writings not previously seen in any of the presently accepted codices.

McCrone Associates are the most regarded in the industry, and have had a hand in some of the most treasured relics in the history of humanity," continued Ferrara. "Although it went through the original analysis in the early 1990's, we wanted to bring Joseph G. Barabe, a Senior Research Microscopist at McCrone Associates in to perform a second analysis now that it has been 20 years since the original project."
McCrone Associates Inc. have been involved in some of the most revolutionary discoveries since the history of civilization. McCrone Associates also received much media attention for their analysis of the Gospel of Judas and their role in the restoration and preservation of Abraham Zapruder's 8 mm film of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Due to the significance of the piece and the timing of the analysis in relation to the Mayan Calendar's impending long count end, media interviews will be limited. Perhaps they are idealistic young men/women/things who believe in a bright Kerbal future in space. Perhaps they are dangerous criminals that society no longer wants on Kerbin. Perhaps they are poor unfortunates whose number comes up in a lottery, conscripts who are sacrificed for the future of Kerbalkind. Sort of like a spacefaring version of The Hunger Games. 😉 Whatever the truth of the matter, the fact is that most of those who go up to the new Interkerbin Space Station aren #39;t gonna come back to Kerbin. Some will head off to the planets on the next interplanetary mission. Some might move their locale to a moon base some day. And some might just spin around the planet until they die of old age, radiation sickness or unexpected drastic decompression. In this episode, we add a couple bits to the station, and add a whole bunch of new fresh faces by launching a passenger rocket with 3 crew and 4 passengers.
