Brian J. Malkin is a partner in the Washington, DC office of Frommer Lawrence Haug LLP. Mr. Malkin worked as a regulatory counsel at the US Food and Drug Administration in both the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research and the Office of the Commissioner, specializing in the areas of intellectual property and exclusivity related to the Hatch-Waxman Act, new product evaluations, and compliance issues related to clinical investigations. Drs. Hrabowski and Summers discuss why programs that support and graduate minority students in STEM subjects are necessary. They also describe their Meyerhoff Scholars Program at UMBC, a program that has been very successful and which could be replicated at other schools. About the speakers: Dr. Hrabowski has been President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County for 20 years. During his tenure, UMBC has become one of the top schools in the country for graduating STEM majors of all races, including African Americans. Dr. Summers is a Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UMBC and a long-time supporter of the Meyerhoff Scholars Program.
